민수기 32 장.

민32:1 르우벤 자손과 갓 자손은 심히 많은 가축 떼를 가졌더라 그들이 야셀 땅과 길르앗 땅을 본즉 그 곳은 목축할 만한 장소인지라

민32:2 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손이 와서 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 회중 지휘관들에게 말하여 이르되

민32:3 아다롯과 디본과 야셀과 니므라와 헤스본과 엘르알레와 스밤과 느보와 브온

민32:4 곧 여호와께서 이스라엘 회중 앞에서 쳐서 멸하신 땅은 목축할 만한 장소요 당신의 종들에게는 가축이 있나이다

민32:5 또 이르되 우리가 만일 당신에게 은혜를 입었으면 이 땅을 당신의 종들에게 그들이 소유로 주시고 우리에게 요단 강을 건너지 않게 하소서

민32:6 모세가 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손에게 이르되 너희 형제들은 싸우러 가거늘 너희는 여기 앉아 있고자 하느냐

민32:7 너희가 어찌하여 이스라엘 자손에게 낙심하게 하여서 여호와께서 그들에게 주신 땅으로 건너갈 수 없게 하려 하느냐

민32:8 너희 조상들도 내가 가데스바네아에서 그 땅을 보라고 보냈을 때에 그리 하였었나니

민32:9 그들이 에스골 골짜기에 올라가서 그 땅을 보고 이스라엘 자손을 낙심하게 하여서 여호와께서 그들에게 주신 땅으로 갈 수 없게 하였었느니라

민32:10 그 때에 여호와께서 진노하사 맹세하여 이르시되

민32:11 애굽에서 나온 자들이 이십 세 이상으로는 한 사람도 내가 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세한 땅을 결코 보지 못하리니 이는 그들이 나를 온전히 따르지 아니 하였음이니라

민32:12 그러나 그나스 사람 여분네의 아들 갈렙과 눈의 아들 여호수아는 여호와를 온전히 따랐느니라 하시고

민32:13 여호와께서 이스라엘에게 진노하사 그들에게 사십 년 동안 광야에 방황하게 하셨으므로 여호와의 목전에 악을 행한 그 세대가 마침내는 다 끊어졌느니라

민32:14 보라 너희는 너희의 조상의 대를 이어 일어난 죄인의 무리로서 이스라엘을 향하신 여호와의 노를 더욱 심하게 하는도다

민32:15 너희가 만일 돌이켜 여호와를 떠나면 여호와께서 다시 이 백성을 광야에 버리시리니 그리하면 너희가 이 모든 백성을 멸망시키리라

민32:16 그들이 모세에게 가까이 나아와 이르되 우리가 이 곳에 우리 가축을 위하여 우리를 짓고 우리 어린 아이들을 위하여 성읍을 건축하고

민32:17 이 땅의 원주민이 있으므로 우리 어린 아이들을 그 견고한 성읍에 거주하게 한 후에 우리는 무장하고 이스라엘 자손을 그 곳으로 인도하기까지 그들의 앞에서 가고

민32:18 이스라엘 자손이 각기 기업을 받기까지 우리 집으로 돌아오지 아니하겠사오며

민32:19 우리는 요단 이쪽 곧 동쪽에서 기업을 받았사오니 그들과 함께 요단 저쪽에서는 기업을 받지 아니하겠나이다

민32:20 모세가 그들에게 이르되 너희가 만일 이 일을 행하여 무장하고 여호와 앞에서 가서 싸우되

민32:21 너희가 다 무장하고 여호와 앞에서 요단을 건너가서 여호와께서 그의 원수를 자기 앞에서 쫓아내시고

민32:22 그 땅이 여호와 앞에 복종하게 하시기까지 싸우면 여호와 앞에서나 이스라엘 앞에서나 무죄하여 돌아오겠고 이 땅은 여호와 앞에서 너희의 소유가 되리라마는

민32:23 너희가 만일 그같이 아니하면 여호와께 범죄함이니 너희 죄가 반드시 너희를 찾아낼 줄 알라

민32:24 너희는 어린 아이들을 위하여 성읍을 건축하고 양을 위하여 우리를 지으라 그리하고 너희의 입이 말한 대로 행하라

민32:25 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손이 모세에게 대답하여 이르되 주의 종들인 우리는 우리 주의 명령대로 행할 것이라

민32:26 우리의 어린 아이들과 아내와 양 떼와 모든 가축은 이곳 길르앗 성읍들에 두고

민32:27 종들은 우리 주의 말씀대로 무장하고 여호와 앞에서 다 건너가서 싸우리이다

민32:28 이에 모세가 그들에 대하여 제사장 엘르아살과 눈의 아들 여호수아와 이스라엘 자손 지파의 수령들에게 명령하니라

민32:29 모세가 그들에게 이르되 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손이 만일 각각 무장하고 너희와 함께 요단을 건너가서 여호와 앞에서 싸워서 그 땅이 너희 앞에 항복하기에 이르면 길르앗 땅을 그들의 소유로 줄 것이니라

민32:30 그러나 만일 그들이 너희와 함께 무장하고 건너지 아니하면 그들은 가나안 땅에서 너희와 함께 땅을 소유할 것이니라

민32:31 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손이 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 당신의 종들에게 명령하신 대로 우리가 행할 것이라

민32:32 우리가 무장하고 여호와 앞에서 가나안 땅에 건너가서 요단 이쪽을 우리가 소유할 기업이 되게 하리이다

민32:33 모세가 갓 자손과 르우벤 자손과 요셉의 아들 므낫세 반 지파에게 아모리인의 왕 시혼의 나라와 바산 왕 옥의 나라를 주되 곧 그 땅과 그 경내의 성읍들과 그 성읍들의 사방 땅을 그들에게 주매

민32:34 갓 자손은 디본과 아다롯과 아로엘과

민32:35 아다롯소반과 야셀과 욕브하와

민32:36 벧니므라와 벧하란들의 견고한 성읍을 건축하였고 또 양을 위하여 우리를 지었으며

민32:37 르우벤 자손은 헤스본과 엘르알레와 기랴다임과

민32:38 느보와 바알므온들을 건축하고 그 이름을 바꾸었고 또 십마를 건축하고 건축한 성읍들에 새 이름을 주었고

민32:39 므낫세의 아들 마길의 자손은 가서 길르앗을 쳐서 빼앗고 거기 있는 아모리인을 쫓아내매

민32:40 모세가 길르갓을 므낫세의 아들 마길에게 주매 그가 거기 거주하였고

민32:41 므낫세의 아들 야일은 가서 그 촌락들을 빼앗고 하봇야일이라 불렀으며

민32:42 노바는 가서 그낫과 그 마을들을 빼앗고 자기 이름을 따라서 노바라 불렀더라

시편 77 장.

시77:1 내가 내 음성으로 하나님께 부르짖으리니 내 음성으로 하나님께 부르짖으면 내게 귀를 기울이시리로다

시77:2 나의 환난 날에 내가 주를 찾았으며 밤에는 내 손을 들고 거두지 아니하였나니 내 영혼이 위로 받기를 거절하였도다

시77:3 내가 하나님을 기억하고 불안하여 근심하니 내 심령이 상하도다 (셀라)

시77:4 주께서 내가 눈을 붙이지 못하게 하시니 내가 괴로워 말할 수 없나이다

시77:5 내가 옛날 곧 지나간 세월을 생각하였사오며

시77:6 밤에 부른 노래를 내가 기억하여 내 심령으로, 내가 내 마음으로 간구하기를

시77:7 주께서 영원히 버리실까, 다시는 은혜를 베풀지 아니하실까,

시77:8 그의 인자하심은 영원히 끝났는가, 그의 약속하심도 영구히 폐하였는가,

시77:9 하나님이 그가 베푸실 은혜를 잊으셨는가, 노하심으로 그가 베푸실 긍휼을 그치셨는가 하였나이다 (셀라)

시77:10 또 내가 말하기를 이는 나의 잘못이라 지존자의 오른손의 해

시77:11 곧 여호와의 일들을 기억하며 주께서 옛적에 행하신 기이한 일을 기억하리이다

시77:12 또 주의 모든 일을 작은 소리로 읊조리며 주의 행사를 낮은 소리로 되뇌이리이다

시77:13 하나님이여 주의 도는 극히 거룩하시오니 하나님과 같이 위대하신 신이 누구오니이까

시77:14 주는 기이한 일을 행하신 하나님이시라 민족들 중에 주의 능력을 알리시고

시77:15 주의 팔로 주의 백성 곧 야곱과 요셉의 자손을 속량하셨나이다 (셀라)

시77:16 하나님이여 물들이 주를 보았나이다 물들이 주를 보고 두려워하며 깊음도 진동하였고

시77:17 구름이 물을 쏟고 궁창이 소리를 내며 주의 화살도 날아갔나이다

시77:18 회오리바람 중에 주의 우렛소리가 있으며 번개가 세계를 비추며 땅이 흔들리며 움직였나이다

시77:19 주의 길이 바다에 있었고 주의 곧은 길이 큰 물에 있었으나 주의 발자취를 알 수 없었나이다

시77:20 주의 백성을 양 떼 같이 모세와 아론의 손으로 인도하셨나이다

이사야 24 장.

사24:1 보라 여호와께서 땅을 공허하게 하시며 황폐하게 하시며 지면을 뒤집어 엎으시고 그 주민을 흩으시리니

사24:2 백성과 제사장이 같을 것이며 종과 상전이 같을 것이며 여종과 여주인이 같을 것이며 사는 자와 파는 자가 같을 것이며 빌려주는 자와 빌리는 자가 같을 것이며 이자 받는 자와 이자를 내는 자가 같을 것이라

사24:3 땅이 온전히 공허하게 되고 온전히 황무하게 되리라 여호와께서 이 말씀을 하셨느니라

사24:4 땅이 슬퍼하고 쇠잔하며 세계가 쇠약하고 쇠잔하며 세상 백성 중에 높은 자가 쇠약하며

사24:5 땅이 또한 그 주민 아래서 더럽게 되었으니 이는 그들이 율법을 범하며 율례를 어기며 영원한 언약을 깨뜨렸음이라

사24:6 그러므로 저주가 땅을 삼켰고 그 중에 사는 자들이 정죄함을 당하였고 땅의 주민이 불타서 남은 자가 적도다

사24:7 새 포도즙이 슬퍼하고 포도나무가 쇠잔하며 마음이 즐겁던 자가 다 탄식하며

사24:8 소고 치는 기쁨이 그치고 즐거워하는 자의 소리가 끊어지고 수금 타는 기쁨이 그쳤으며

사24:9 노래하면서 포도주를 마시지 못하고 독주는 그 마시는 자에게 쓰게 될 것이라

사24:10 약탈을 당한 성읍이 허물어 지고 집마다 닫혀서 들어가는 자가 없으며

사24:11 포도주가 없으므로 거리에서 부르짖으며 모든 즐거움이 살아졌으며 땅의 기쁨이 소멸되었도다

사24:12 성읍이 황무하고 성문이 파괴되었느니라

사24:13 세계 민족 중에 이러한 일이 있으리니 곧 감람나무를 흔듬 같고 포도주를 거둔 후에 그 남은 것을 주움 같을 것이니라

사24:14 무리가 소리를 높여 부를 것이며 여호와의 위엄으로 말미암아 바다에서부터 크게 외치리니

사24:15 그러므로 너희가 동방에서 여호와를 영화롭게 하며 바다 모든 섬에서 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 영화롭게 할 것이라

사24:16 땅 끝에서부터 노래하는 소리가 우리에게 들리기를 의로우신 이에게 영광을 돌리세 하도다 그러나 나는 이르기를 나는 쇠잔하였고 나는 쇠잔하였으니 내게 화가 있도다 배신자들은 배신 하고 배신자들이 크게 배신하였도다

사24:17 땅의 주민아 두려움과 함정과 올무가 네게 이르렀나니

사24:18 두려운 소리로 말미암아 도망하는 자는 함정에 빠지겠고 함정 속에서 올라오는 자는 올무에 걸리리니 이는 위에 있는 문이 열리고 땅의 기초가 진동함이라

사24:19 땅이 깨지고 깨지며 땅이 갈라지고 갈라지며 땅이 흔들리고 흔들리며

사24:20 땅이 취한 자 같이 비틀비틀하며 원두막 같이 흔들리며 그 위의 죄악이 중하므로 떨어지고 다시 일지 못하리라

사24:21 그 날에 여호와께서 높은 데에서 높은 군대를 벌하시며 땅에서 땅의 왕들을 벌하시리니

사24:22 그들이 죄수가 깊은 옥에 모임 같이 모이게 되고 옥에 갇혔다가 여러 날 후에 형벌을 받을 것이니라

사24:23 그 때에 달이 수치를 당하고 해가 부끄러워하리니 이는 만군의 여호와께서 시온 산과 예루살렘에서 왕이 되시고 그 장로들 앞에서 영광을 나타내실 것임이라

요한일서 2 장.

요일2:1 나의 자녀들아 내가 이것을 너희에게 씀은 너희로 죄를 범하지 않게 하려 함이라 만일 누가 죄를 범하여도 아버지 앞에서 우리에게 대언자가 있으니 곧 의로우신 예수 그리스도시라

요일2:2 그는 우리 죄를 위한 화목 제물이니 우리만 위할 뿐 아니요 온 세상의 죄를 위하심이라

요일2:3 우리가 그의 계명을 지키면 이로써 우리가 그를 아는 줄로 알 것이요

요일2:4 그를 아노라 하고 그의 계명을 지키지 아니하는 자는 거짓말하는 자요 진리가 그 속에 있지 아니하되

요일2:5 누구든지 그의 말씀을 지키는 자는 하나님의 사랑이 참으로 그 속에서 온전하게 되었나니 이로써 우리가 그의 안에 있는 줄을 아노라

요일2:6 그의 안에 산다고 하는 자는 그가 행하시는 대로 자기도 행할지니라

요일2:7 사랑하는 자들아 내가 새 계명을 너희에게 쓰는 것이 아니라 너희가 처음부터 가진 옛 계명이니 이 옛 계명은 너희가 들은 바 말씀이거니와

요일2:8 다시 내가 너희에게 새 계명을 쓰노니 그에게와 너희에게도 참된 것이라 이는 어둠이 지나가고 참빛이 벌써 비침이니라

요일2:9 빛 가운데 있다 하면서 그 형제를 미워하는 자는 지금까지 어둠에 있는 자요

요일2:10 그의 형제를 사랑하는 자는 빛 가운데 거하여 자기 속에 거리낌이 없으나

요일2:11 그의 형제를 미워하는 자는 어둠에 있고 또 어둠에 행하며 갈 곳을 알지 못하나니 이는 그 어둠이 그의 눈을 멀게 하였음이라

요일2:12 자녀들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희 죄가 그의 이름으로 말미암아 사함을 받았음이요

요일2:13 아비들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 태초부터 계신 이를 알았음이요 청년들아 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 악한 자를 이기었음이라

요일2:14 아이들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 아버지를 알았음이요 아비들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 태초부터 계신 이를 알았음이요 청년들아 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 너희가 강하고 하나님의 말씀이 너희 안에 거하시며 너희가 흉악한 자를 이기었음이라

요일2:15 이 세상이나 세상에 있는 것들을 사랑하지 말라 누구든지 세상을 사랑하면 아버지의 사랑이 그 안에 있지 아니하니

요일2:16 이는 세상에 있는 모든 것이 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 이생의 자랑이니 다 아버지께로부터 온 것이 아니요 세상으로부터 온 것이라

요일2:17 이 세상도, 그 정욕도 지나가되 오직 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거하느니라

요일2:18 아이들아 지금은 마지막 때라 적그리스도가 오리라는 말을 너희가 들은 것과 같이 지금도 많은 적그리스도가 일어났으니 그러므로 우리가 마지막 때인 줄 아노라

요일2:19 그들이 우리에게서 나갔으나 우리에게 속하지 아니하였나니 만일 우리에게 속하였더라면 우리와 함께 거하였으려니와 그들이 나간 것은 다 우리에게 속하지 아니함을 나타내려 함이니라

요일2:20 너희는 거룩하신 자에게서 기름 부음을 받고 모든 것을 아느니라

요일2:21 내가 너희에게 쓰는 것은 너희가 진리를 알지 못하기 때문이 아니라 알기 때문이요 또 모든 거짓은 진리에서 나지 않기 때문이라

요일2:22 거짓말하는 자가 누구냐 예수께서 그리스도이심을 부인하는 자가 아니냐 아버지와 아들을 부인하는 그가 적그리스도니

요일2:23 아들을 부인하는 자에게는 또한 아버지가 없으되 아들을 시인하는 자에게는 아버지도 있느니라

요일2:24 너희는 처음부터 들은 것을 너희 안에 거하게 하라 처음부터 들은 것이 너희 안에 거하면 너희가 아들과 아버지 안에 거하리라

요일2:25 그가 우리에게 약속하신 것은 이것이니 곧 영원한 생명이니라

요일2:26 너희를 미혹하는 자들에 관하여 내가 이것을 너희에게 썼노라

요일2:27 너희는 주께 받은 바 기름 부음이 너희 안에 거하나니 아무도 너희를 가르칠 필요가 없고 오직 그의 기름 부음이 모든 것을 너희에게 가르치며 또 참되고 거짓이 없으니 너희를 가르치신 그대로 주 안에 거하라

요일2:28 자녀들아 이제 그의 안에 거하라 이는 주께서 나타내신 바 되면 그가 강림하실 때에 우리로 담대함을 얻어 그 앞에서 부끄럽지 않게 하려 함이라

요일2:29 너희가 그가 의로우신 줄을 알면 의를 행하는 자마다 그에게서 난 줄을 알리라

Numbers 32.

32:1 The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock.

32:2 So they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said,

32:3 "Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon--

32:4 the land the LORD subdued before the people of Israel--are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.

32:5 If we have found favor in your eyes," they said, "let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan."

32:6 Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, "Shall your countrymen go to war while you sit here?

32:7 Why do you discourage the Israelites from going over into the land the LORD has given them?

32:8 This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to look over the land.

32:9 After they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the LORD had given them.

32:10 The LORD'S anger was aroused that day and he swore this oath:

32:11 'Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years old or more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob--

32:12 not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the LORD wholeheartedly.'

32:13 The LORD'S anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the desert forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

32:14 "And here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the LORD even more angry with Israel.

32:15 If you turn away from following him, he will again leave all this people in the desert, and you will be the cause of their destruction."

32:16 Then they came up to him and said, "We would like to build pens here for our livestock and cities for our women and children.

32:17 But we are ready to arm ourselves and go ahead of the Israelites until we have brought them to their place. Meanwhile our women and children will live in fortified cities, for protection from the inhabitants of the land.

32:18 We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has received his inheritance.

32:19 We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan."

32:20 Then Moses said to them, "If you will do this--if you will arm yourselves before the LORD for battle,

32:21 and if all of you will go armed over the Jordan before the LORD until he has driven his enemies out before him--

32:22 then when the land is subdued before the LORD, you may return and be free from your obligation to the LORD and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the LORD.

32:23 "But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

32:24 Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised."

32:25 The Gadites and Reubenites said to Moses, "We your servants will do as our lord commands.

32:26 Our children and wives, our flocks and herds will remain here in the cities of Gilead.

32:27 But your servants, every man armed for battle, will cross over to fight before the LORD, just as our lord says."

32:28 Then Moses gave orders about them to Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun and to the family heads of the Israelite tribes.

32:29 He said to them, "If the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the LORD, then when the land is subdued before you, give them the land of Gilead as their possession.

32:30 But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan."

32:31 The Gadites and Reubenites answered, "Your servants will do what the LORD has said.

32:32 We will cross over before the LORD into Canaan armed, but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan."

32:33 Then Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan--the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.

32:34 The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

32:35 Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

32:36 Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.

32:37 And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh and Kiriathaim,

32:38 as well as Nebo and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah. They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.

32:39 The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there.

32:40 So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.

32:41 Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.

32:42 And Nobah captured Kenath and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah after himself.

Psalms 77.

77:1 I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.

77:2 When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted.

77:3 I remembered you, O God, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. Selah

77:4 You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.

77:5 I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;

77:6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired:

77:7 "Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?

77:8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?

77:9 Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" Selah

77:10 Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the Most High."

77:11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

77:12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.

77:13 Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God?

77:14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

77:15 With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

77:16 The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.

77:17 The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth.

77:18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.

77:19 Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.

77:20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Isaiah 24.

24:1 See, the LORD is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants--

24:2 it will be the same for priest as for people, for master as for servant, for mistress as for maid, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor.

24:3 The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The LORD has spoken this word.

24:4 The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the exalted of the earth languish.

24:5 The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.

24:6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth's inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.

24:7 The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all the merrymakers groan.

24:8 The gaiety of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.

24:9 No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers.

24:10 The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred.

24:11 In the streets they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all gaiety is banished from the earth.

24:12 The city is left in ruins, its gate is battered to pieces.

24:13 So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.

24:14 They raise their voices, they shout for joy; from the west they acclaim the LORD'S majesty.

24:15 Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

24:16 From the ends of the earth we hear singing: "Glory to the Righteous One." But I said, "I waste away, I waste away! Woe to me! The treacherous betray! With treachery the treacherous betray!"

24:17 Terror and pit and snare await you, O people of the earth.

24:18 Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare. The floodgates of the heavens are opened, the foundations of the earth shake.

24:19 The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is thoroughly shaken.

24:20 The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls--never to rise again.

24:21 In that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below.

24:22 They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.

24:23 The moon will be abashed, the sun ashamed; for the LORD Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders, gloriously.

1 John 2.

2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

2:3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands.

2:4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

2:5 But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:

2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

2:7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

2:8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

2:9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.

2:10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

2:11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.

2:12 I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known the Father.

2:14 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

2:16 For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world.

2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

2:18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

2:19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

2:21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

2:22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son.

2:23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

2:24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

2:25 And this is what he promised us--even eternal life.

2:26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.

2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.

2:28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.

2:29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
