신명기 2 장.

신2:1 우리가 방향을 돌려 여호와께서 내게 명령하신 대로 홍해 길로 광야에 들어가서 여러 날 동안 세일 산을 두루 다녔더니

신2:2 여호와께서 내게 말씀하여 이르시되

신2:3 너희가 이 산을 두루 다닌 지 오래니 돌이켜 북으로 나아가라

신2:4 너는 또 백성에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 세일에 거주하는 너희 동족에서의 자손이 사는 지역으로 지날진대 그들이 너희를 두려워하리니 너희는 스스로 깊이 삼가고

신2:5 그들과 다투지 말라 그들의 땅은 한 발자국도 너희에게 주지 아니하리니 이는 내가 세일 산을 에서에게 기업으로 주었음이라

신2:6 너희는 돈으로 그들에게서 양식을 사서 먹고 돈으로 그들에게서 물을 사서 마시라

신2:7 네 하나님 여호와께서 네가 하는 모든 일에 네게 복을 주시고 네가 이 큰 광야에 두루 다님을 알고 네 하나님 여호와께서 이 사십 년 동안을 너와 함께 하셨으므로 네게 부족함이 없었느니라 하시기로

신2:8 우리가 세일 산에 거주하는 우리 동족 에서의 자손을 떠나서 아라바를 지나며 엘랏과 에시온게벨 곁으로 지나 행진하고 돌이켜 모압 광야 길로 지날 때에

신2:9 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 모압을 괴롭히지 말라 그와 싸우지도 말라 그 땅을 내가 네게 기업으로 주지 아니하리니 이는 내가 롯 자손에게 아르를 기업으로 주었음이라

신2:10 (이전에는 에밈 사람이 거기 거주하였는데 아낙 족속 같이 강하고 많고 키가 크므로

신2:11 그들을 아낙 족속과 같이 르바임이라 불렀으나 모압 사람은 그들을 에밈이라 불렀으며

신2:12 호리 사람도 세일에 거주하였는데 에서의 자손이 그들을 멸하고 그 땅에 거주하였으니 이스라엘이 여호와께서 주신 기업의 땅에서 행한 것과 같았느니라)

신2:13 이제 너희는 일어나서 세렛 시내를 건너가라 하시기로 우리가 세렛 시내를 건넜으니

신2:14 가데스 바네아에서 떠나 세렛 시내를 건너기까지 삼십팔 년 동안이라 이 때에는 그 시대의 모든 군인들이 여호와께서 그들에게 맹세하신 대로 진영 중에서 다 멸망하였나니

신2:15 여호와께서 손으로 그들을 치사 진영 중에서 멸하신 고로 마침내는 다 멸망되었느니라

신2:16 모든 군인이 사망하여 백성 중에서 멸망한 후에

신2:17 여호와께서 내게 말씀하여 이르시되

신2:18 네가 오늘 모압 변경 아르를 지나리니

신2:19 암몬 족속에게 가까이 이르거든 그들을 괴롭히지 말고 그들과 다투지도 말라 암몬 족속의 땅은 내가 네게 기업으로 주지 아니하리니 이는 내가 그것을 롯 자손에게 기업으로 주었음이라

신2:20 (이곳도 르바임의 땅이라 하였나니 전에 르바임이 거기 거주하였음이요 암몬 족속은 그들을 삼숨밈이라 일컬었으며

신2:21 그 백성은 아낙 족속과 같이 강하고 많고 키가 컸으나 여호와께서 암몬 족속 앞에서 그들을 멸하였으므로 암몬 족속이 대신하여 그 땅에 거주하였으니

신2:22 마치 세일에 거주한 에서 자손 앞에 호리 사람을 멸하심과 같으니 그들이 호리 사람을 쫓아내고 대신하여 오늘까지 거기에 거주하였으며

신2:23 또 갑돌에서 나온 갑돌 사람이 가사까지 각 촌에 거주하는 아위 사람을 멸하고 그들을 대신하여 거기에 거주하였느니라)

신2:24 너희는 일어나 행진하여 아르논 골짜기를 건너라 내가 헤스본 왕 아모리 사람 시혼과 그의 땅을 네 손에 넘겼은즉 이제 더불어 싸워서 그 땅을 차지하라

신2:25 오늘부터 내가 천하 만민이 너를 무서워하며 너를 두려워하게 하리니 그들이 네 명성을 듣고 떨며 너로 말미암아 근심하리라 하셨느니라

신2:26 내가 그데못 광야에서 헤스본 왕 시혼에게 사자를 보내어 평화의 말로 이르기를

신2:27 나를 네 땅으로 통과하게 하라 내가 큰길로만 행하고 좌로나 우로나 치우치지 아니하리라

신2:28 너는 돈을 받고 양식을 팔아 내가 먹게 하고 돈을 받고 물을 주어 내가 마시게 하라 나는 걸어서 지날 뿐인즉

신2:29 세일에 거주하는 에서 자손과 아르에 거주하는 모압 사람이 내게 행한 것 같이 하라 그리하면 내가 요단을 건너서 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 주시는 땅에 이르리라 하였으나

신2:30 헤스본 왕 시혼이 우리가 통과하기를 허락하지 아니하였으니 이는 네 하나님 여호와께서 그를 네 손에 넘기시려고 그의 성품을 완강하게 하셨고 그의 마음을 완고하게 하셨음이 오늘날과 같으니라

신2:31 그 때에 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 내가 이제 시혼과 그의 땅을 네게 넘기노니 너는 이제부터 그의 땅을 차지하여 기업으로 삼으라 하시더니

신2:32 시혼이 그의 모든 백성을 거느리고 나와서 우리를 대적하여 야하스에서 싸울 때에

신2:33 우리 하나님 여호와께서 그를 우리에게 넘기시매 우리가 그와 그의 아들들과 그의 모든 백성을 쳤고

신2:34 그 때에 우리가 그의 모든 성읍을 점령하고 그의 각 성음을 그 남녀와 유아와 함께 하나도 남기지 아니하고 진멸하였고

신2:35 다만 그 가축과 성읍에서 탈취한 것은 우리의 소유로 삼았으며

신2:36 우리 하나님 여호와께서 그 모든 땅을 우리에게 넘겨주심으로 아르논 골짜기 가장자리에 있는 아로엘과 골짜기 가운데에 있는 성읍으로부터 길르앗까지 우리가 모든 높은 성읍을 점령하지 못한 것이 하나도 없었으나

신2:37 오직 암몬 족속의 땅 얍복 강 가와 산지에 있는 성읍들과 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리가 가기를 금하신 모든 곳은 네가 가까이 하지 못하였느니라

시편 83 장.

시83:1 하나님이여 침묵하지 마소서 하나님이여 잠잠하지 마시고 조용하지 마소서

시83:2 무릇 주의 원수들이 떠들며 주를 미워하는 자들이 머리를 들었나이다

시83:3 그들이 주의 백성을 치려 하여 간계를 꾀하며 주께서 숨기신 자를 치려고 서로 의논하여

시83:4 말하기를 가서 그들을 멸하여 다시 나라가 되지 못하게 하여 이스라엘의 이름으로 다시는 기억되지 못하게 하자 하나이다

시83:5 그들이 한 마음으로 의논하고 주를 대적하여 서로 동맹하니

시83:6 곧 에돔의 장막과 이스마엘인과 모압과 하갈인이며

시83:7 그발과 암몬과 아말렉이며 블레셋과 두로 사람이요

시83:8 앗수르도 그들과 연합하여 롯 자손의 도움이 되었나이다 (셀라)

시83:9 주는 미디안인에게 행하신 것 같이, 기손 시내에서 시스라와 야빈에게 행하신 것 같이 그들에게도 행하소서

시83:10 그들은 엔돌에서 패망하여 땅에 거름이 되었나이다

시83:11 그들의 귀인들이 오렙과 스엡 같게 하시며 그들의 모든 고관들은 세바와 살문나와 같게 하소서

시83:12 그들이 말하기를 우리가 하나님의 목장을 우리의 소유로 취하자 하였나이다

시83:13 나의 하나님이여 그들이 굴러가는 검불 같게 하시며 바람에 날리는 지푸라기 같게 하소서

시83:14 삼림을 사르는 불과 산에 붙는 불길 같이

시83:15 주의 광풍으로 그들을 쫓으시며 주의 폭풍으로 그들을 두렵게 하소서

시83:16 여호와여 그들의 얼굴에 수치가 가득하게 하사 그들이 주의 이름을 찾게 하소서

시83:17 그들로 수치를 당하여 영원히 놀라게 하시며 낭패와 멸망을 당하게 하사

시83:18 여호와라 이름하신 주만 온 세계의 지존자로 알게 하소서

시편 84 장.

시84:1 만군의 여호와여 주의 장막이 어찌 그리 사랑스러운지요

시84:2 내 영혼이 여호와의 궁정을 사모하여 쇠약함이여 내 마음과 육체가 살아 계시는 하나님께 부르짖나이다

시84:3 나의 왕, 나의 하나님, 만군의 여호와여 주의 제단에서 참새도 제 집을 얻고 제비도 새끼 둘 보금자리를 얻었나이다

시84:4 주의 집에 사는 자들은 복이 있나니 그들이 항상 주를 찬송하리이다 (셀라)

시84:5 주께 힘을 얻고 그 마음에 시온의 대로가 있는 자는 복이 있나이다

시84:6 그들이 눈물 골짜기로 지나갈 때에 그 곳에 많은 샘이 있을 것이며 이른 비가 복을 채워 주나이다

시84:7 그들은 힘을 얻고 더 얻어 나아가 시온에서 하나님 앞에 각기 나타나리이다

시84:8 만군의 하나님 여호와여 내 기도를 들으소서 야곱의 하나님이여 귀를 기울이소서 (셀라)

시84:9 우리 방패이신 하나님이여 주께서 기름 부으신 자의 얼굴을 살펴보옵소서

시84:10 주의 궁정에서의 한 날이 다른 곳에서의 천 날보다 나은즉 악인의 장막에 사는 것보다 내 하나님의 성전 문지기로 있는 것이 좋사오니

시84:11 여호와 하나님은 해요 방패이시라 여호와께서 은혜와 영화를 주시며 정직하게 행하는 자에게 좋은 것을 아끼지 아니하실 것임이니이다

시84:12 만군의 여호와여 주께 의지하는 자는 복이 있나이다

이사야 30 장.

사30:1 여호와께서 이르시되 패역한 자식들은 화 있을진저 그들이 계교를 베푸나 나로 말미암지 아니하며 맹약을 맺으나 나의 영으로 말미암지 아니하고 죄에 죄를 더하도다

사30:2 그들이 바로의 세력 안에서 스스로 강하려 하며 애굽의 그늘에 피하려 하여 애굽으로 내려갔으되 나의 입에 묻지 아니하였도다

사30:3 그러므로 바로의 세력이 너희의 수치가 되며 애굽의 그늘에 피함이 너희의 수욕이 될 것이라

사30:4 그 고관들이 소안에 있고 그 사신들이 하네스에 이르렀으나

사30:5 그들이 다 자기를 유익하게 하지 못하는 민족으로 말미암아 수치를 당하리니 그 민족이 돕지도 못하며 유익하게도 못하고 수치가 되게 하며 수욕이 되게 할 뿐임이니라

사30:6 네겝 짐승들에 관한 경고라 사신들이 그들의 재물을 어린 나귀 등에 싣고 그들의 보물을 낙타 안장에 얹고 암사자와 수사자와 독사와 및 날아다니는 불뱀이 나오는 위험하고 곤고한 땅을 지나 자기에게 무익한 민족에게로 갔으나

사30:7 애굽의 도움이 헛되고 무익하니라 그러므로 내가 애굽을 가만히 앉은 라합이라 일컬었느니라

사30:8 이제 가서 백성 앞에서 서판에 기록하며 책에 써서 후세에 영원히 있게 하라

사30:9 대저 이는 패역한 백성이요 거짓말 하는 자식들이요 여호와의 법을 듣기 싫어하는 자식들이라

사30:10 그들이 선견자들에게 이르기를 선견하지 말라 선견자들에게 이르기를 우리에게 바른 것을 보이지 말라 우리에게 부드러운 말을 하라 거짓된 것을 보이라

사30:11 너희는 바른 길을 버리며 첩경에서 돌이키라 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이로 우리 앞에서 떠나시게 하라 하는도다

사30:12 이러므로 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이가 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 이 말을 업신여기고 압박과 허망을 믿어 그것을 의지하니

사30:13 이 죄악이 너희에게 마치 무너지려고 터진 담이 불쑥 나와 순식간에 무너짐 같게 되리라 하셨은즉

사30:14 그가 이 나라를 무너뜨리시되 토기장이가 그릇을 깨뜨림 같이 아낌이 없이 부수시리니 그 조각 중에서, 아궁이에서 불을 붙이거나 물 웅덩이에서 물을 뜰 것도 얻지 못하리라

사30:15 주 여호와 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이가 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 돌이켜 조용히 있어야 구원을 얻을 것이요 잠잠하고 신뢰하여야 힘을 얻을 것이어늘 너희가 원하지 아니하고

사30:16 이르기를 아니라 우리가 말 타고 도망하리라 하였으므로 너희가 도망할 것이요 또 이르기를 우리가 빠른 짐승을 하였으므로 너희를 쫓는 자들이 빠르리니

사30:17 한 사람이 꾸짖은즉 천 사람이 도망하겠고 다섯이 꾸짖은즉 너희가 다 도망하고 너희 남은 자는 겨우 산 꼭대기의 깃대 같겠고 산 마루 위의 기치 같으리라 하셨느라

사30:18 그러나 여호와께서 기다리시나니 이는 너희에게 은혜를 베풀려 하심이요 일어나시리니 이는 너희를 긍휼히 여기려 하심이라 대저 여호와는 정의의 하나님이심이라 그를 기다리는 자마다 복이 있도다

사30:19 시온에 거주하며 예루살렘에 거주하는 백성아 너는 다시 통곡하지 아니할 것이라 그가 네 부르짖는 소리로 말미암아 네게 은혜를 베푸시되 그가 들으실 때에 네게 응답하시리라

사30:20 주께서 너희에게 환난의 떡과 고생의 물을 주시나 네 스승은 다시 숨기지 아니하시리니 네 눈이 네 스승을 볼 것이며

사30:21 너희가 오른쪽으로 치우치든지 왼쪽으로 치우치든지 네 뒤에서 말소리가 네 귀에 들려 이르기를 이것이 바른 길이니 너희는 이리로 가라 할 것이며

사30:22 또 너희가 너희 조각한 우상에 입힌 은과 부어 만든 우상에 올린 금을 더럽게 하여 불결한 물건을 던짐 같이 던지며 이르기를 나가라 하리라

사30:23 네가 땅에 뿌린 종자에 주께서 비를 주사 땅이 먹을 것을 내며 곡식이 풍성하고 기름지게 하실 것이며 그 날에 네 가축이 광활한 목장에서 먹을 것이요

사30:24 밭 가는 소와 어린 나귀도 키와 쇠스랑으로 까부르고 맛있게 한 먹이를 먹을 것이며

사30:25 크게 살륙하는 날 망대가 무너질 때에 고산마다 준령마다 그 뒤에 개울과 시냇물이 흐를 것이며

사30:26 여호와께서 자기 백성의 상처를 싸매시며 그들의 맞은 자리를 고치시는 날에는 달빛은 햇빛 같겠고 햇빛은 일곱 배가 되어 일곱 날의 빛과 같으리라

사30:27 보라 여호와의 이름이 원방에서부터 오되 그의 진노가 불붙듯 하며 빽빽한 연기가 일어나듯 하며 그의 입술에는 분노가 찼으며 그의 혀는 맹렬한 불 같으며

사30:28 그의 호흡은 마치 창일하여 목에까지 미치는 하수 같은즉 그가 멸하는 키로 열방을 까부르며 여러 민족의 입에 미혹하는 자갈을 물리시리니

사30:29 너희가 거룩한 절기를 지키는 밤에 하듯이 노래할 것이며 피리를 불며 여호와의 산으로 가서 이스라엘의 반석에게로 나아가는 자 같이 마음에 즐거워할 것이라

사30:30 여호와께서 그의 장엄한 목소리를 듣게 하시며 혁혁한 진노로 그의 팔의 치심을 보이시되 맹렬한 화염과 폭풍과 폭우와 우박으로 하시리니

사30:31 여호와의 목소리에 앗수르가 낙담할 것이며 주께서는 막대기로 치실 것이라

사30:32 여호와께서 예정하신 몽둥이를 앗수르 위에 더하실 때마다 소고를 치며 수금을 탈 것이며 그는 전쟁 때에 팔을 들어 그들을 치시리라

사30:33 대저 도벳은 이미 설립되었고 또 왕을 위하여 예비된 것이라 깊고 넓게 하였고 거기 불과 많은 나무가 있은즉 여호와의 호흡이 유황 개천 같아서 이를 사르시리라

유 다 서 1 장.

유1:1 예수 그리스도의 종이요 야고보의 형제인 유다는 부르심을 받은 자 곧 하나님 아버지 안에서 사랑을 얻고 예수 그리스도를 위하여 지키심을 받은 자들에게 편지하노라

유1:2 긍휼과 평강과 사랑이 너희에게 더욱 많을 지어다

유1:3 사랑하는 자들아 우리가 일반으로 받은 구원에 관하여 내가 너희에게 편지하려는 생각이 간절하던 차에 성도에게 단번에 주신 믿음의 도를 위하여 힘써 싸우라는 편지로 너희를 권하여야 할 필요를 느꼈노니

유1:4 이는 가만히 들어온 사람 몇이 있음이라 그들은 옛적부터 이 판결을 받기로 미리 기록된 자니 경건하지 아니하여 우리 하나님의 은혜를 도리어 방탕한 것으로 바꾸고 홀로 하나이신 주재 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 부인하는 자니라

유1:5 너희가 본래 모든 사실을 알고 있으나 내가 너희로 다시 생각나게 하고자 하노라 주께서 백성을 애굽에서 구원하여 내시고 후에 믿지 아니하는 자들을 멸하셨으며

유1:6 또 자기 지위를 지키지 아니하고 자기 처소를 떠난 천사들을 큰 날의 심판까지 영원한 결박으로 흑암에 가두셨으며

유1:7 소돔과 고모라와 그 이웃 도시들도 그들과 같은 행동으로 음란하며 다른 육체를 따라 가다가 영원한 불의 형벌을 받음으로 거울이 되었느니라

유1:8 그러한데 꿈꾸는 이 사람들도 그와 같이 육체를 더럽히며 권위를 업신여기며 영광을 비방하는도다

유1:9 천사장 미가엘이 모세의 시체에 관하여 마귀와 다투어 변론할 때에 감히 비방하는 판결을 내리지 못하고 다만 말하되 주께서 너를 꾸짖으시기를 원하노라 하였거늘

유1:10 이 사람들은 무엇이든지 그 알지 못하는 것을 비방하는도다 또 그들은 이성 없는 짐승 같이 본능으로 아는 그것으로 멸망하느니라

유1:11 화 있을진저 이 사람들이여, 가인의 길에 행하였으며 삯을 위하여 발람의 어그러진 길로 몰려 갔으며 고라의 패역을 따라 멸망을 받았도다

유1:12 그들은 기탄 없이 너희와 함께 먹으니 너희의 애찬에 암초요 자기 몸만 기르는 목자요 바람에 불려가는 물 없는 구름이요 죽고 또 죽어 뿌리까지 뽑힌 열매 없는 가을 나무요

유1:13 자기 수치의 거품을 뿜는 바다의 거친 물결이요 영원히 예비된 캄캄한 흑암으로 돌아갈 유리하는 별들이라

유1:14 아담의 칠대 손 에녹이 이 사람들에 대하여도 예언하여 이르되 보라 주께서 그 수만의 거룩한 자와 함께 임하셨나니

유1:15 이는 뭇 사람을 심판하사 모든 경건하지 않은 자가 경건하지 않게 행한 모든 경건하지 않은 일과 또 경건하지 않은 죄인들이 주를 거슬러 한 모든 완악한 말로 말미암아 그들을 정죄하려 하심이라 하였느니라

유1:16 이 사람들은 원망하는 자며 불만을 토하는 자며 그 정욕대로 행하는 자라 그 입으로 자랑하는 말을 하며 이익을 위하여 아첨하느니라

유1:17 사랑하는 자들아 너희는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 사도들이 미리 한 말을 기억하라

유1:18 그들이 너희에게 말하기를 마지막 때에 자기의 경건하지 않은 정욕대로 행하며 조롱하는 자들이 있으리라 하였나니

유1:19 이 사람들은 분열을 일으키는 자며 육에 속한 자며 성령이 없는 자니라

유1:20 사랑하는 자들아 너희는 너희의 지극히 거룩한 믿음 위에 자신을 세우며 성령으로 기도하며

유1:21 하나님의 사랑 안에서 자신을 지키며 영생에 이르도록 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 긍휼을 기다리라

유1:22 어떤 의심하는 자들을 긍휼히 여기라

유1:23 또 어떤 자를 불에서 끌어내어 구원하라 또 어떤 자를 그 육체로 더럽힌 옷까지도 미워하되 두려움으로 긍휼히 여기라

유1:24 능히 너희를 보호하사 거침이 없게 하시고 너희로 그 영광 앞에 흠이 없이 기쁨으로 서게 하실 이

유1:25 곧 우리 구주 홀로 하나이신 하나님께 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 영광과 위엄과 권력과 권세가 영원 전부터 이제와 영원토록 있을지어다 아멘

Deuteronomy 2.

2:1 Then we turned back and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea, as the LORD had directed me. For a long time we made our way around the hill country of Seir.

2:2 Then the LORD said to me,

2:3 "You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.

2:4 Give the people these orders: 'You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

2:5 Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.

2:6 You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.'"

2:7 The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.

2:8 So we went on past our brothers the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We turned from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber, and traveled along the desert road of Moab.

2:9 Then the LORD said to me, "Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession."

2:10 (The Emites used to live there--a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites.

2:11 Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites.

2:12 Horites used to live in Seir, but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the LORD gave them as their possession.)

2:13 And the LORD said, "Now get up and cross the Zered Valley." So we crossed the valley.

2:14 Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.

2:15 The LORD'S hand was against them until he had completely eliminated them from the camp.

2:16 Now when the last of these fighting men among the people had died,

2:17 the LORD said to me,

2:18 "Today you are to pass by the region of Moab at Ar.

2:19 When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them to war, for I will not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot."

2:20 (That too was considered a land of the Rephaites, who used to live there; but the Ammonites called them Zamzummites.

2:21 They were a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. The LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place.

2:22 The LORD had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who lived in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in their place to this day.

2:23 And as for the Avvites who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor destroyed them and settled in their place.)

2:24 "Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.

2:25 This very day I will begin to put the terror and fear of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you."

2:26 From the desert of Kedemoth I sent messengers to Sihon king of Heshbon offering peace and saying,

2:27 "Let us pass through your country. We will stay on the main road; we will not turn aside to the right or to the left.

2:28 Sell us food to eat and water to drink for their price in silver. Only let us pass through on foot--

2:29 as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us--until we cross the Jordan into the land the LORD our God is giving us."

2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands, as he has now done.

2:31 The LORD said to me, "See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land."

2:32 When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz,

2:33 the LORD our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, together with his sons and his whole army.

2:34 At that time we took all his towns and completely destroyed them--men, women and children. We left no survivors.

2:35 But the livestock and the plunder from the towns we had captured we carried off for ourselves.

2:36 From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the gorge, even as far as Gilead, not one town was too strong for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.

2:37 But in accordance with the command of the LORD our God, you did not encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites, neither the land along the course of the Jabbok nor that around the towns in the hills.

Psalms 83.

83:1 O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.

83:2 See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.

83:3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.

83:4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more."

83:5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you--

83:6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,

83:7 Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.

83:8 Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah

83:9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,

83:10 who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground.

83:11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

83:12 who said, "Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God."

83:13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God, like chaff before the wind.

83:14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,

83:15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

83:16 Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD.

83:17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.

83:18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD--that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalms 84.

84:1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty!

84:2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

84:3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young--a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.

84:4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah

84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

84:6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

84:7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

84:8 Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Selah

84:9 Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one.

84:10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

84:12 O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Isaiah 30.

30:1 "Woe to the obstinate children," declares the LORD, "to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin;

30:2 who go down to Egypt without consulting me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge.

30:3 But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame, Egypt's shade will bring you disgrace.

30:4 Though they have officials in Zoan and their envoys have arrived in Hanes,

30:5 everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them, who bring neither help nor advantage, but only shame and disgrace."

30:6 An oracle concerning the animals of the Negev: Through a land of hardship and distress, of lions and lionesses, of adders and darting snakes, the envoys carry their riches on donkeys' backs, their treasures on the humps of camels, to that unprofitable natioj,

30:7 to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless. Therefore I call her Rahab the Do-Nothing.

30:8 Go now, write it on a tablet for them, inscribe it on a scroll, that for the days to come it may be an everlasting witness.

30:9 These are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD'S instruction.

30:10 They say to the seers, "See no more visions!" and to the prophets, "Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.

30:11 Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!"

30:12 Therefore, this is what the Holy One of Israel says: "Because you have rejected this message, relied on oppression and depended on deceit,

30:13 this sin will become for you like a high wall, cracked and bulging, that collapses suddenly, in an instant.

30:14 It will break in pieces like pottery, shattered so mercilessly that among its pieces not a fragment will be found for taking coals from a hearth or scooping water out of a cistern."

30:15 This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.

30:16 You said, 'No, we will flee on horses.' Therefore you will flee! You said, 'We will ride off on swift horses.' Therefore your pursuers will be swift!

30:17 A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill."

30:18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

30:19 K people of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you.

30:20 Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them.

30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

30:22 Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, "Away with you!"

30:23 He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful. In that day your cattle will graze in broad meadows.

30:24 The oxen and donkeys that work the soil will eat fodder and mash, spread out with fork and shovel.

30:25 In the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall, streams of water will flow on every high mountain and every lofty hill.

30:26 The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the LORD binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted.

30:27 See, the Name of the LORD comes from afar, with burning anger and dense clouds of smoke; his lips are full of wrath, and his tongue is a consuming fire.

30:28 His breath is like a rushing torrent, rising up to the neck. He shakes the nations in the sieve of destruction; he places in the jaws of the peoples a bit that leads them astray.

30:29 And you will sing as on the night you celebrate a holy festival; your hearts will rejoice as when people go up with flutes to the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.

30:30 The LORD will cause men to hear his majestic voice and will make them see his arm coming down with raging anger and consuming fire, with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail.

30:31 The voice of the LORD will shatter Assyria; with his scepter he will strike them down.

30:32 Every stroke the LORD lays on them with his punishing rod will be to the music of tambourines and harps, as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.

30:33 Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its fire pit has been made deep and wide, with an abundance of fire and wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of burning sulfur, sets it ablaze. ISA

Jude 1.

1:1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ:

1:2 Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.

1:3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

1:4 For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

1:5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

1:6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

1:7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

1:8 In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings.

1:9 But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

1:10 Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand; and what things they do understand by instinct, like unreasoning animals--these are the very things that destroy them.

1:11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam's error; they have been destroyed in Korah's rebellion.

1:12 These men are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm--shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted--twice dead.

1:13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

1:14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones

1:15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

1:16 These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

1:17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.

1:18 They said to you, "In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires."

1:19 These are the men who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.

1:20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

1:21 Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

1:22 Be merciful to those who doubt;

1:23 snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

1:24 To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy--
