신명기 9 장.

신9:1 이스라엘아 들으라 네가 오늘 요단을 건너 너보다 강대한 나라들로 들어가서 그것을 차지하리니 그 성읍들은 크고 성벽은 하늘에 닿았으며

신9:2 크고 많은 백성은 네가 아는 아낙 자손이라 그에 대한 말을 네가 들었나니 이르기를 누가 아낙 자손을 능히 당하리요 하거니와

신9:3 오늘 너는 알라 네 하나님 여호와께서 맹렬한 불과 같이 네 앞에 나아가신즉 여호와께서 그들을 멸하사 네 앞에 엎드러지게 하시리니 여호와께서 네게 말씀하신 것 같이 너는 그들을 쫓아내며 속히 멸할 것이라

신9:4 네 하나님 여호와께서 그들을 네 앞에서 쫓아내신 후에 네가 심중에 이르기를 내 공의로움으로 말미암아 여호와께서 나를 이 땅으로 인도하여 들여서 그것을 차지하게 하셨다 하지 말라 이 민족들이 악함으로 말미암아 여호와께서 그들을 네 앞에서 쫓아내심이니라

신9:5 네가 가서 그 땅을 차지함은 네 공의로 말미암음도 아니며 네 마음이 정직함으로 말미암음도 아니요 이 민족들이 악함으로 말미암아 네 하나님 여호와께서 그들을 네 앞에서 쫓아내심이라 여호와께서 이같이 하심은 네 조상 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 하신 맹세를 이루려 하심이라

신9:6 그러므로 네가 알 것은 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 이 아름다운 땅을 기업으로 주신 것이 네 공의로 말미암음이 아니니라 너는 목이 곧은 백성이니라

신9:7 너는 광야에서 네 하나님 여호와를 격노하게 하던 일을 잊지 말고 기억하라 네가 애굽 땅에서 나오던 날부터 이 곳에 이르기까지 늘 여호와를 거역하였으되

신9:8 호렙 산에서 너희가 여호와를 격노하게 하였으므로 여호와께서 진노하사 너희를 멸하려 하셨느니라

신9:9 그 때에 내가 돌판들 곧 여호와께서 너희와 세우신 언약의 돌판들을 받으려고 산에 올라가서 사십 주 사십 야를 산에 머물며 떡도 먹지 아니하고 물도 마시지 아니하였더니

신9:10 여호와께서 두 돌판을 내게 주셨나니 그 돌판의 글은 하나님이 손으로 기록하신 것이요 너희의 총회 날에 여호와께서 산상 불 가운데서 너희에게 이르신 모든 말씀이니라

신9:11 사십 주 사십 야를 지난 후에 여호와께서 내게 돌판 곧 언약의 두 돌판을 주시고

신9:12 내게 이르시되 일어나 여기서 속히 내려가라 네가 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 내 백성이 스스로 부패하여 내가 그들에게 명령한 도를 속히 떠나 자기를 위하여 우상을 부어 만들었느니라

신9:13 여호와께서 또 내게 말씀하여 이르시되 내가 이 백성을 보았노라 보라 이는 목이 곧은 백성이니라

신9:14 나를 막지 말라 내가 그들을 멸하여 그들의 이름을 천하에서 없애고 너를 그들보다 강대한 나라가 되게 하리라 하시기로

신9:15 내가 돌이켜 산에서 내려오는데 산에는 불이 붙었고 언약의 두 돌판은 내 두 손에 있었느니라

신9:16 내가 본즉 너희가 너희의 하나님 여호와께 범죄하여 자기를 위하여 송아지를 부어 만들어서 여호와께서 명령하신 도를 빨리 떠났기로

신9:17 내가 그 두 돌판을 내 두 손으로 들어 던져 너희의 목전에서 깨뜨렸노라

신9:18 그리고 내가 전과 같이 사십 주 사십 야를 여호와 앞에 엎드려서 떡도 먹지 아니하고 물도 마시지 아니하였으니 이는 너희가 여호와의 목전에 악을 행하여 그를 격노하게 하여 크게 죄를 지었음이라

신9:19 여호와께서 심히 분노하사 너희를 멸하려 하셨으므로 내가 두려워하였노라 그러나 여호와께서 그 때에도 내 말을 들으셨고

신9:20 여호와께서 또 아론에게 진노하사 그를 멸하려 하셨으므로 내가 그 때에도 아론을 위하여 기도하고

신9:21 너희의 죄 곧 너희가 만든 송아지를 가져다가 불살라 찧고 티끌 같이 가늘게 갈아 그 가루를 산에서 흘러내리는 시내에 뿌렸느니라

신9:22 너희가 다베라와 맛사와 기브롯 핫다아와에서도 여호와를 격노하게 하였느니라

신9:23 여호와께서 너희를 가데스 바네아에서 떠나게 하실 때에 이르시기를 너희는 올라가서 내가 너희에게 준 땅을 차지하라 하시되 너희가 너희의 하나님 여호와의 명령을 거역하여 믿 지 아니하고 그 말씀을 듣지 아니하였나니

신9:24 내가 너희를 알던 날부터 너희가 항상 여호와를 거역하여 왔느니라

신9:25 그 때에 여호와께서 너희를 멸하겠다 하셨으므로 내가 여전히 사십 주 사십 야를 여호와 앞에 엎드리고

신9:26 여호와께 간구하여 이르되 주 여호와여 주께서 큰 위엄으로 속량하시고 강한 손으로 애굽에서 인도하여 내신 주의 백성 곧 주의 기업을 멸하지 마옵소서

신9:27 주의 종 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱을 생각하사 이 백성의 완악함과 악과 죄를 보지 마옵소서

신9:28 주께서 우리를 인도하여 내신 그 땅 백성이 말하기를 여호와께서 그들에게 허락하신 땅으로 그들을 인도하여 들일 만한 능력도 없고 그들을 미워하기도 하사 광야에서 죽이려고 인도하여 내셨다 할까 두려워하나이다

신9:29 그들은 주의 큰 능력과 펴신 팔로 인도하여 내신 주의 백성 곧 주의 기업이로소이다 하였노라

시편 92 장.

시92:1 지존자여 십현금과 비파와 수금으로 여호와께 감사하며

시92:2 주의 이름을 찬양하고 아침마다 주의 인자하심을 알리며

시92:3 밤마다 주의 성실하심을 베풂이 좋으니이다

시92:4 여호와여 주께서 행하신 일로 나를 기쁘게 하셨으니 주의 손이 행하신 일로 말미암아 내가 높이 외치리이다

시92:5 여호와여 주께서 행하신 일이 어찌 그리 크신지요 주의 생각이 매우 깊으시니이다

시92:6 어리석은 자도 알지 못하며 무지한 자도 이를 깨닫지 못하나이다

시92:7 악인들은 풀 같이 자라고 악을 행하는 자들은 다 흥왕할지라도 영원히 멸망하리이다

시92:8 여호와여 주는 영원토록 지존하시니이다

시92:9 여호와여 주의 원수들은 패망하리이다 정녕 주의 원수들은 패망하리니 죄악을 행하는 자들은 다 흩어지리이다

시92:10 그러나 주께서 내 뿔을 들소의 뿔 같이 높이셨으며 내게 신선한 기름을 부으셨나이다

시92:11 내 원수들이 보응 받는 것을 내 눈으로 보며 일어나 나를 치는 행악자들이 보응 받는 것을 내 귀로 들었도다

시92:12 의인은 종려나무 같이 번성하며 레바논의 백향목 같이 성장하리로다

시92:13 이는 여호와의 집에 심겼음이여 우리 하나님의 뜰 안에서 번성하리로다

시92:14 그는 늙어도 여전히 결실하며 진액이 풍족하고 빛이 청청하니

시92:15 여호와의 정직하심과 나의 바위 되심과 그에게는 불의가 없음이 선포되리로다

시편 93 장.

시93:1 여호와께서 다스리시니 스스로 권위를 입으셨도다 여호와께서 능력의 옷을 입으시며 띠를 띠셨으므로 세계도 견고히 서서 흔들리지 아니하는도다

시93:2 주의 보좌는 예로부터 견고히 섰으며 주는 영원부터 계셨나이다

시93:3 여호와여 큰 물이 소리를 높였고 큰 물이 그 소리를 높였으니 큰 물이 그 물결을 높이나이다

시93:4 높이 계신 여호와의 능력은 많은 물 소리와 바다의 큰 파도보다 크니이다

시93:5 여호와여 주의 증거들이 매우 확실하고 거룩함이 주의 집에 합당하니 여호와는 영원무궁하시리이다

이사야 37 장.

사37:1 히스기야 왕이 듣고 자기의 옷을 찢고 굵은 베옷을 입고 여호와의 전으로 갔고

사37:2 왕궁맡은 자 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 제사장 중 어른들도 굵은 베를 입으니라 왕이 그들을 아모스의 아들 선지자 이사야에게로 보내매

사37:3 그들이 이사야에게 이르되 히스기야의 말씀에 오늘은 환난과 책벌과 능욕의 날이라 아기를 낳으려 하나 해산할 힘이 없음 같도다

사37:4 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 랍사게의 말을 들으셨을 것이라 그가 그의 상전 앗수르 왕의 보냄을 받고 살아 계시는 하나님을 훼방하였은즉 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 혹시 그 말로 말미암아 견책하실까 하노라 그런즉 바라건대 당신은 이 남아 있는 자를 위하여 기도하라 하시더이다 하니라

사37:5 그리하여 히스기야 왕의 신하들이 이사야에게 나아가매

사37:6 이사야가 그들에게 이르되 너희는 너희 주에게 이렇게 말하라 여호와께서 말씀하시되 너희의 들은 바 앗수르 왕의 종들이 나를 능욕한 말로 말미암아 두려워하지 말라

사37:7 보라 내가 영을 그의 속에 두리니 그가 소문을 듣고 그의 고국으로 돌아갈 것이며 또 내가 그를 그의 고국에서 칼에 죽게 하리라 하셨느니라 하니라

사37:8 앗수르 왕이 라기스를 떠났다 함을 듣고 랍사게가 돌아가다가 그 왕을 만나니 립나를 치고 있더라

사37:9 그 때에 앗수르 왕이 구스 왕 디르하가의 일에 대하여 들은즉 사람들이 이르기를 그가 나와서 왕과 싸우려 한다 하는지라 이 말을 듣고 사자들을 히스기야에게 보내며 이르되

사37:10 너희는 유다의 히스기야 왕에게 이같이 말하여 이르기를 너는 네가 신뢰하는 하나님이 예루살렘이 앗수르 왕의 손에 넘어가지 아니하리라 하는 말에 속지 말라

사37:11 앗수르 왕들이 모든 나라에 어떤 일을 행하였으며 그것을 어떻게 멸절시켰는지 네가 들었으리니 네가 구원을 받겠느냐

사37:12 나의 조상들이 멸하신 열방 고산과 하란과 레셉과 및 들라살에 있는 에덴 자손을 그 나라들의 신들이 건졌더냐

사37:13 하맛 왕과 아르밧 왕과 스발와임 성의 왕과 헤나 왕과 이와 왕이 어디 있느냐 하라 하였더라

사37:14 히스기야가 그 사자들의 손에서 글을 받아 보고 여호와의 전에 올라가서 그 글을 여호와 앞에 펴 놓고

사37:15 여호와께 기도하여 이르되

사37:16 그룹 사이에 계신 이스라엘 하나님 만군의 여호와여 주는 천하 만국의 유일하신 하나님이시라 주께서 천지를 만드셨나이다

사37:17 여호와여 귀를 기울여 들으시옵소서 여호와여 눈을 뜨고 보시옵소서 산헤립이 사람을 보내어 살아 계시는 하나님을 훼방한 모든 말을 들으시옵소서

사37:18 여호와여 앗수르 왕들이 과연 열국과 그들의 땅을 황폐하게 하였고

사37:19 그들의 신들을 불에 던졌사오나 이들은 신이 아니라 사람의 손으로 만든 것뿐이요 나무와 돌이라 그러므로 멸망을 당하였나이다

사37:20 우리 하나님 여호와여 이제 우리를 그의 손에서 구원하사 천하 만국이 주만이 여호와이신 줄을 알게 하옵소서 하니라

사37:21 아모스의 아들 이사야가 사람을 보내어 히스기야에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 말씀하시되 네가 앗수르의 산헤립 왕의 일로 내게 기도하였도다 하시고

사37:22 여호와께서 그에 대하여 이같이 이르시되 처녀 딸 시온이 너를 멸시하며 조소하였고 딸 예루살렘이 너를 향하여 머리를 흔들었느니라

사37:23 네가 훼방하며 능욕한 것은 누구에게냐 네가 소리를 높이며 눈을 높이 들어 향한 것은 누구에게냐 곧 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이에게니라

사37:24 네가 네 종을 통해서 내 주를 훼방하여 이르기를 내가 나의 허다한 병거를 거느리고 산들의 꼭대기에 올라가며 레바논의 깊은 곳에 이르렀으니 높은 백향목과 아름다운 향나무를 베고 또 그 제일 높은 곳에 들어가 살진 땅의 수풀에 이를 것이며

사37:25 내가 우물을 파서 물을 마셨으니 내 발바닥으로 애굽의 모든 하수를 말리리라 하였도다

사37:26 네가 어찌 듣지 못하였느냐 이 일들은 내가 태초부터 행한 바요 상고부터 정한 바로서 이제 내가 미루어 네가 견고한 성읍들을 헐어 돌무더기가 되게 하였노라

사37:27 그러므로 그 주민들이 힘이 약하여 놀라며 수치를 당하여 들의 풀 같이, 푸른 나물 같이, 지붕의 풀 같이, 자라지 못한 곡초 같이 되었느니라

사37:28 네 거처와 네 출입과 네가 나를 거슬러 분노함을 내가 아노라

사37:29 네가 나를 거슬러 분노함과 네 오만함이 내 귀에 들렸으므로 내가 갈고리로 네 코를 꿰며 재갈을 네 입에 물려 너를 오던 길로 돌아가게 하리라 하셨나이다

사37:30 왕이여 이것이 왕에게 징조가 되리니 올해는 스스로 난 것을 먹을 것이요 둘째 해에는 또 거기에서 난 것을 먹을 것이요 셋째 해에는 심고 거두며 포도나무를 심고 그의 열매를 먹을 것이니이다

사37:31 유다 족속 중에 피하여 남는 자는 다시 아래로 뿌리를 박고 위로 열매를 맺히리니

사37:32 이는 남은 자가 예루살렘에서 나오며 피하는 자가 시온 산에서 나올 것임이라 만군의 여호와의 열심이 이를 이루시리이다

사37:33 그러므로 여호와께서 앗수르 왕에 대하여 이같이 이르시되 그가 이 성에 이르지 못하며 화살 하나도 이리로 쏘지 못하며 방패를 가지고 성에 가까이 오지도 못하며 흉벽을 쌓고 치지도 못할 것이요

사37:34 그가 오던 길 곧 그 길로 돌아가고 이 성에 이르지 못하리라 나 여호와의 말이니라

사37:35 대저 내가 나를 위하며 내 종 다윗을 위하여 이 성을 보호하며 구원하리라 하셨나이다 하니라

사37:36 여호와의 사자가 나가서 앗수르 진중에서 십팔만 오천 인을 쳤으므로 아침에 일찌기 일어나 본즉 시체뿐이라

사37:37 이에 앗수르의 산헤립 왕이 떠나 돌아가서 니느웨에 거주하더니

사37:38 자기 신 니스록의 신전에서 경배할 때에 그의 아들 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 죽이고 아라랏 땅으로 도망하였음으로 그의 아들 에살핫돈이 이어 왕이 되니라

요한계시록 7 장.

계7:1 이 일 후에 내가 네 천사가 땅 네 모퉁이에 선 것을 보니 땅의 사방의 바람을 붙잡아 바람으로 하여금 땅에나 바다에나 각종 나무에 불지 못하게 하더라

계7:2 또 보매 다른 천사가 살아 계신 하나님의 인을 가지고 해 돋는 데로부터 올라와서 땅과 바다를 해롭게 할 권세를 받은 네 천사를 향하여 큰 소리로 외쳐

계7:3 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님의 종들의 이마에 인치기까지 땅이나 바다나 나무들을 해하지 말라 하더라

계7:4 내가 인침을 받은 자의 수를 들으니 이스라엘 자손의 각 지파 중에서 인침을 받은 자들이 십사만 사천이니

계7:5 유다 지파 중에 인침을 받은 자가 일만 이천이요 르우벤 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 갓 지파 중에 일만 이천이요

계7:6 아셀 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 납달리 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 므낫세 지파 중에 일만 이천이요

계7:7 시므온 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 레위 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 잇사갈 지파 중에 일만 이천이요

계7:8 스불론 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 요셉 지파 중에 일만 이천이요 베냐민 지파 중에 인침을 받은 자가 일만 이천이라

계7:9 이 일 후에 내가 보니 각 나라와 족속과 백성과 방언에서 아무도 능히 셀 수 없는 큰 무리가 나와 흰 옷을 입고 손에 종려 가지를 들고 보좌 앞과 어린 양 앞에 서서

계7:10 큰 소리로 외쳐 이르되 구원하심이 보좌에 앉으신 우리 하나님과 어린 양에게 있도다 하니

계7:11 모든 천사가 보좌와 장로들과 네 생물의 주위에 서 있다가 보좌 앞에 엎드려 얼굴을 대고 하나님께 경배하여

계7:12 이르되 아멘 찬송과 영광과 지혜와 감사와 존귀와 권능과 힘이 우리 하나님께 세세토록 있을 지어다 아멘

계7:13 장로 중 하나가 응답하여 나에게 이 흰 옷 입은 자들이 누구며 또 어디서 왔느냐

계7:14 내가 말하기를 내 주여 당신이 아시나이다 하니 그가 나에게 이르되 이는 큰 환난에서 나오는 자들인데 어린 양의 피에 그 옷을 씻어 희게 하였느니라

계7:15 그러므로 그들이 하나님의 보좌 앞에 있고 또 그의 성전에서 밤낮 하나님을 섬기매 보좌에 앉으신 이가 그들 위에 장막을 치시리니

계7:16 그들이 다시는 주리지도 아니하며 목마르지도 아니하고 해나 아무 뜨거운 기운에 상하지도 아니하리니

계7:17 이는 보좌 가운데에 계신 어린 양이 그들의 목자가 되사 생명수 샘으로 인도하시고 하나님께서 그들의 눈에서 모든 눈물을 씻어 주실 것임이라

Deuteronomy 9.

9:1 Hear, O Israel. You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky.

9:2 The people are strong and tall--Anakites! You know about them and have heard it said: "Who can stand up against the Anakites?"

9:3 But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you.

9:4 After the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, "The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness." No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you.

9:5 It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the LORD your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

9:6 Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.

9:7 Remember this and never forget how you provoked the LORD your God to anger in the desert. From the day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

9:8 At Horeb you aroused the LORD'S wrath so that he was angry enough to destroy you.

9:9 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.

9:10 The LORD gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the commandments the LORD proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.

9:11 At the end of the forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

9:12 Then the LORD told me, "Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned away quickly from what I commanded them and have made a cast idol for themselves."

9:13 And the LORD said to me, "I have seen this people, and they are a stiff-necked people indeed!

9:14 Let me alone, so that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. And I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they."

9:15 So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

9:16 When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you.

9:17 So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes.

9:18 Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed, doing what was evil in the LORD'S sight and so provoking him to anger.

9:19 I feared the anger and wrath of the LORD, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the LORD listened to me.

9:20 And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too.

9:21 Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.

9:22 You also made the LORD angry at Taberah, at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah.

9:23 And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, he said, "Go up and take possession of the land I have given you." But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You did not trust him or obey him.

9:24 You have been rebellious against the LORD ever since I have known you.

9:25 I lay prostrate before the LORD those forty days and forty nights because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

9:26 I prayed to the LORD and said, "O Sovereign LORD, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

9:27 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness of this people, their wickedness and their sin.

9:28 Otherwise, the country from which you brought us will say, 'Because the LORD was not able to take them into the land he had promised them, and because he hated them, he brought them out to put them to death in the desert.'

9:29 But they are your people, your inheritance that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm."

Psalms 92.

92:1 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High,

92:2 to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night,

92:3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.

92:4 For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.

92:5 How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts!

92:6 The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand,

92:7 that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed.

92:8 But you, O LORD, are exalted forever.

92:9 For surely your enemies, O LORD, surely your enemies will perish; all evildoers will be scattered.

92:10 You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured upon me.

92:11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.

92:12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;

92:13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

92:14 They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,

92:15 proclaiming, "The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."

Psalms 93.

93:1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.

93:2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.

93:3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

93:4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea--the LORD on high is mighty.

93:5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.

Isaiah 37.

37:1 When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the temple of the LORD.

37:2 He sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

37:3 They told him, "This is what Hezekiah says: This day is a day of distress and rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the point of birth and there is no strength to deliver them.

37:4 It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of the field commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, has sent to ridicule the living God, and that he will rebuke him for the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore pray for the remnant that still survives."

37:5 When King Hezekiah's officials came to Isaiah,

37:6 Isaiah said to them, "Tell your master, 'This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid of what you have heard--those words with which the underlings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

37:7 Listen! I am going to put a spirit in him so that when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own country, and there I will have him cut down with the sword.'"

37:8 When the field commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.

37:9 Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the Cushite king of Egypt, was marching out to fight against him. When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:

37:10 "Say to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive you when he says, 'Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.'

37:11 Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries, destroying them completely. And will you be delivered?

37:12 Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers deliver them--the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?

37:13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, or of Hena or Ivvah?"

37:14 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.

37:15 And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:

37:16 "O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

37:17 Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; listen to all the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.

37:18 "It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.

37:19 They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.

37:20 Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God."

37:21 Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

37:22 this is the word the LORD has spoken against him: "The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises and mocks you. The Daughter of Jerusalem tosses her head as you flee.

37:23 Who is it you have insulted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!

37:24 By your messengers you have heaped insults on the Lord. And you have said, 'With my many chariots I have ascended the heights of the mountains, the utmost heights of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the choicest of its pines. I have reached its remotest heights, the finest of its forests.

37:25 I have dug wells in foreign lands and drunk the water there. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.'

37:26 "Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it; now I have brought it to pass, that you have turned fortified cities into piles of stone.

37:27 Their people, drained of power, are dismayed and put to shame. They are like plants in the field, like tender green shoots, like grass sprouting on the roof, scorched before it grows up.

37:28 "But I know where you stay and when you come and go and how you rage against me.

37:29 Because you rage against me and because your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will make you return by the way you came.

37:30 "This will be the sign for you, O Hezekiah: "This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

37:31 Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.

37:32 For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

37:33 "Therefore this is what the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria: "He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.

37:34 By the way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city," declares the LORD.

37:35 "I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!"

37:36 Then the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning--there were all the dead bodies!

37:37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.

37:38 One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king.

Revelation 7.

7:1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.

7:2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea:

7:3 "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."

7:4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.

7:5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000,

7:6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,

7:7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,

7:8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.

7:9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

7:10 And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."

7:11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

7:12 saying: "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!"

7:13 Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did they come from?"

7:14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

7:15 Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

7:16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat.

7:17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
