신명기 31 장.

신31:1 또 모세가 가서 온 이스라엘에게 이 말씀을 전하여

신31:2 그들에게 이르되 이제 내 나이 백이십 세라 내가 더 이상 출입하지 못하겠고 여호와께서도 내게 이르시기를 너는 이 요단을 건너지 못하리라 하셨느니라

신31:3 여호와께서 이미 말씀하신 것과 같이 네 하나님 여호와께서 너보다 먼저 건너가사 이 민족들을 네 앞에서 멸하시고 네가 그 땅을 차지하게 할 것이며 여호수아는 네 앞에서 건너갈지라

신31:4 또한 여호와께서 이미 멸하신 아모리 왕 시혼과 옥과 및 그 땅에 행하신 것과 같이 그들에게도 행하실 것이라

신31:5 또한 여호와께서 그들을 너희 앞에 넘기시리니 너희는 내가 너희에게 명한 모든 명령대로 그들에게 행할 것이라

신31:6 너희는 강하고 담대하라 두려워하지 말라 그들 앞에서 떨지 말라 이는 네 하나님 여호와 그가 너와 함께 가시며 결코 너를 떠나지 아니하시며 버리지 아니하실 것임이라 하고

신31:7 모세가 여호수아를 불러 온 이스라엘의 목전에서 그에게 이르되 너는 강하고 담대하라 너는 이 백성을 거느리고 여호와께서 그들의 조상에게 주리라고 맹세하신 땅에 들어가서 그들에게 그 땅을 차지하게 하라

신31:8 그리하면 여호와 그가 네 앞에서 가시며 너와 함께 하사 너를 떠나지 아니하시며 버리지 아니하시리니 너는 두려워하지 말라 놀라지 말라

신31:9 또 모세가 이 율법을 써서 여호와의 언약궤를 메는 레위 자손 제사장들과 이스라엘 모든 장로에게 주고

신31:10 모세가 그들에게 명령하여 이르기를 매 칠 년 끝 해 곧 면제년의 초막절에

신31:11 온 이스라엘이 네 하나님 여호와 앞 그가 택하신 곳에 모일 때에 이 율법을 낭독하여 온 이스라엘에게 듣게 할지니

신31:12 곧 백성의 남녀와 어린이와 네 성읍 안에 거류하는 타국인을 모으고 그들에게 듣고 배우고 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하며 이 율법의 모든 말씀을 지켜 행하게 하고

신31:13 또 너희가 요단을 건너가서 차지할 땅에 거주할 동안에 이 말씀을 알지 못하는 그들의 자녀에게 듣고 네 하나님 여호와 경외하기를 배우게 할지니라

신31:14 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 네가 죽을 기한이 가까웠으니 여호수아를 불러서 함께 회 막으로 나아오라 내가 그에게 명령을 내리리라 모세와 여호수아가 나아가서 회막에 서니

신31:15 여호와께서 구름 기둥 가운데에서 장막에 나타나시고 구름 기둥은 장막 문 위에 머물러 있더라

신31:16 또 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 네 조상과 함께 누우려니와 이 백성은 그 땅으로 들어가 음란히 그 땅의 이방 신들을 따르며 일어날 것이요 나를 버리고 내가 그들과 맺은 언약을 어길 것이라

신31:17 내가 그들에게 진노하여 그들을 버리며 내 얼굴을 숨겨 그들에게 보이지 않게 할 것인즉 그들이 삼킴을 당하여 허다한 재앙과 환난이 그들에게 임할 그 때에 그들이 말하기를 이 재앙이 우리에게 내림은 우리 하나님이 우리 가운데에 계시지 않은 까닭이 아니냐 할 것이라

신31:18 또 그들이 돌이켜 다른 신들을 따르는 모든 악행으로 말미암아 내가 그 때에 반드시 내 얼굴을 숨기리라

신31:19 그러므로 이제 너희는 이 노래를 써서 이스라엘 자손들에게 가르쳐 그들의 입으로 부르게 하여 이 노래로 나를 위하여 이스라엘 자손들에게 증거가 되게 하라

신31:20 내가 그들의 조상들에게 맹세한 바 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 그들을 인도하여 들인 후에 그들이 먹어 배부르고 살찌면 돌이켜 다른 신들을 섬기며 나를 멸시하여 내 언약을 어기리니

신31:21 그들이 수많은 재앙과 환난을 당할 때에 그들의 자손이 부르기를 잊지 아니한 이 노래가 그들 앞에 증인처럼 되리라 나는 내가 맹세한 땅으로 그들을 인도하여 들이기 전 오늘 나는 그들이 생각하는 바를 아노라

신31:22 그러므로 모세가 그 날 이 노래를 써서 이스라엘 자손들에게 가르쳤더라

신31:23 여호와에서 또 눈의 아들 여호수아에게 명령하여 이르시되 너는 이스라엘 자손들을 인도하여 내가 그들에게 맹세한 땅으로 들어가게 하리니 강하고 담대하라 내가 너와 함께 하리라 하시니라

신31:24 모세가 이 율법의 말씀을 다 책에 써서 마친 후에

신31:25 모세가 여호와의 언약궤를 메는 레위 사람에게 명령하여 이르되

신31:26 이 율법책을 가져다가 너희 하나님 여호와의 언약궤 곁에 두어 너희에게 증거가 되게 하라

신31:27 내가 너희의 반역함과 목이 곧은 것을 아나니 오늘 내가 살아서 너희와 함께 있어도 너희가 여호와를 거역하였거든 하물며 내가 죽은 후의 일이랴

신31:28 너희 지파 모든 장로와 관리들을 내 앞에 모으라 내가 이 말씀을 그들의 귀에 들려주고 그들에게 하늘과 땅을 증거로 삼으리라

신31:29 내가 알거니와 내가 죽은 후에 너희가 스스로 부패하여 내가 너희에게 명령한 길을 떠나 여호와의 목전에 악을 행하여 너희의 손으로 하는 일로 그를 격노하게 하므로 너희가 후일에 재앙을 당하리라

신31:30 그리고 모세가 이스라엘 총회에 이 노래의 말씀을 끝까지 읽어 들리니라

시편 119 장 97-120.

시119:97 내가 주의 법을 어찌 그리 사랑하는지요 내가 그것을 종일 작은 소리로 읊조리나이다

시119:98 주의 계명들이 항상 나와 함께 하므로 그것들이 나를 원수보다 지혜롭게 하나이다

시119:99 내가 주의 증거들을 늘 읊조리므로 나의 명철함이 나의 모든 스승보다 나으며

시119:100 주의 법도들을 지키므로 나의 명철함이 노인보다 나으니이다

시119:101 내가 주의 말씀을 지키려고 발을 금하여 모든 악한 길로 가지 아니하였사오며

시119:102 주께서 나를 가르치셨으므로 내가 주의 규례들에서 떠나지 아니하였나이다

시119:103 주의 말씀의 맛이 내게 어찌 그리 단지요 내 입에 꿀보다 더 다니이다

시119:104 주의 법도들로 말미암아 내가 명철하게 되었으므로 모든 거짓 행위를 미워하나이다

시119:105 주의 말씀은 내 발에 등이요 내 길에 빛이니이다

시119:106 주의 의로운 규례들을 지키기로 맹세하고 굳게 정하였나이다

시119:107 나의 고난이 매우 심하오니 여호와여 주의 말씀대로 나를 살아나게 하소서

시119:108 여호와여 구하오니 내 입이 드리는 자원제물을 받으시고 주의 공의를 내게 가르치소서

시119:109 나의 생명이 항상 위기에 있사오나 나는 주의 법을 잊지 아니하나이다

시119:110 악인들이 나를 해하려고 올무를 놓았사오나 나는 주의 법도들에서 떠나지 아니하였나이다

시119:111 주의 증거들로 내가 영원히 나의 기업을 삼았사오니 이는 내 마음의 즐거움이 됨이니이다

시119:112 내가 주의 율례들을 영원히 행하려고 내 마음을 기울였나이다

시119:113 내가 두 마음 품는 자들을 미워하고 주의 법을 사랑하나이다

시119:114 주는 나의 은신처요 방패시라 내가 주의 말씀을 바라나이다

시119:115 너희 행악자들이여 나를 떠날지어다 나는 내 하나님의 계명들을 지키리로다

시119:116 주의 말씀대로 나를 붙들어 살게 하시고 내 소망이 부끄럽지 않게 하소서

시119:117 나를 붙드소서 그리하시면 내가 구원을 얻고 주의 율례들에 항상 주의하리이다

시119:118 주의 율례들에서 떠나는 자는 주께서 다 멸시하셨으니 그들의 속임수는 허무함이니이다

시119:119 주께서 세상의 모든 악인들을 찌꺼기 같이 버리시니 그러므로 내가 주의 증거들을 사랑하나이다

시119:120 내 육체가 주를 두려워함으로 떨며 내가 또 주의 심판을 두려워하나이다

이사야 58 장.

사58:1 크게 외치라 목소리를 아끼지 말라 네 목소리를 나팔 같이 높여 내 백성에게 허물을, 야곱의 집에 그들의 죄를 알리라

사58:2 그들이 날마다 나를 찾아 나의 길 알기를 즐거워함이 마치 공의를 행하여 그의 하나님의 규례를 버리지 아니하는 나라 같아서 의로운 판단을 내게 구하며 하나님과 가까이 하기를 즐거워하는도다

사58:3 우리가 금식하되 어찌하여 주께서 보지 아니하시오며 우리가 마음을 괴롭게 하되 어찌하여 주께서 알아 주지 아니하시나이까 하느니라 보라 너희가 금식하는 날에 오락을 구하며 온갖 일을 시키는도다

사58:4 보라 너희가 금식하면서 논쟁하며 다투며 악한 주먹으로 치는도다 너희의 오늘 금식하는 것은 너희의 목소리를 상달하게 하려는 것이 아니니라

사58:5 이것이 어찌 내가 기뻐하는 금식이 되겠으며 이것이 어찌 사람이 자기의 마음을 괴롭게 하는 날이 되겠느냐 그의 머리를 갈대 같이 숙이고 굵은 베와 재를 펴는 것을 어찌 금식이라 하겠으며 여호와께 열납될 날이라 하겠느냐

사58:6 내가 기뻐하는 금식은 흉악의 결박을 풀어 주며 멍에의 줄을 끌러 주며 압제 당하는 자를 자유하게 하며 모든 멍에를 꺾는 것이 아니겠느냐

사58:7 또 주린 자에게 네 양식을 나누어 주며 유리하는 빈민을 집에 들이며 헐벗은 자를 보면 입히며 또 네 골육을 피하여 스스로 숨지 아니하는 것이 아니겠느냐

사58:8 그리하면 네 빛이 새벽 같이 비췰 것이며 네 치유가 급속할 것이며 네 공의가 네 앞에 행하고 여호와의 영광이 네 뒤에 호위하리니

사58:9 네가 부를 때에는 나 여호와가 응답하겠고 네가 부르짖을 때에는 내가 여기 있다 하리라 만일 네가 너희 중에서 멍에와 손가락질과 허망한 말을 제하여 버리고

사58:10 주린 자에게 네 심정을 동하며 괴로와하는 자의 심정을 만족하게 하면 네 빛이 흑암 중에서 떠올라 네 어둠이 낮과 같이 될 것이며

사58:11 여호와가 너를 항상 인도하여 마른 곳에서도 네 영혼을 만족하게 하며 네 뼈를 견고하게 하리니 너는 물 댄 동산 같겠고 물이 끊어지지 아니하는 샘 같을 것이라

사58:12 네게서 날 자들이 오래 황폐된 곳들을 다시 세울 것이며 너는 역대의 파괴된 기초를 쌓으리니 너를 일컬어 무너진 데를 수보하는 자라 할 것이며 길을 수축하여 거할 곳이 되게 하는 자라 하리라

사58:13 만일 안식일에 네 발을 금하여 내 성일에 오락을 행하지 아니하고 안식일을 일컬어 즐거운 날이라, 여호와의 성일을 존귀한 날이라 하여 이를 존귀히 여기고 네 길로 행하지 아니하며 네 오락을 구하지 아니하며 사사로운 말을 하지 아니하면

사58:14 네가 여호와의 안에서 즐거움을 얻을 것이라 내가 너를 땅의 높은 곳에 올리고 네 조상 야곱의 업으로 기르리라 여호와의 입의 말씀이니라

마태복음 6 장.

마6:1 사람에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 너희 의를 행하지 않도록 주의하라 그리하지 아니하면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 상을 받지 못하느니라

마6:2 그러므로 구제할 때에 외식하는 자가 사람에게서 영광을 받으려고 회당과 거리에서 하는 것 같이 너희 앞에 나팔을 불지 말라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라

마6:3 너는 구제할 때에 오른손이 하는 것을 왼손이 모르게 하여

마6:4 네 구제함을 은밀하게 하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 너의 아버지께서 갚으시리라

마6:5 또 너희는 기도할 때에 외식하는 자와 같이 하지 말라 그들은 사람에게 보이려고 회당과 큰 거리 어귀에 서서 기도하기를 좋아하느니라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라

마6:6 너는 기도할 때에 네 골방에 들어가 문을 닫고 은밀한 중에 계신 네 아버지께 기도하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라

마6:7 또 기도할 때에 이방인과 같이 중언부언하지 말라 그들은 말을 많이 하여야 들으실 줄 생각하느니라

마6:8 그러므로 그들을 본받지 말라 구하기 전에 너희에게 있어야 할 것을 하나님 너희 아버지께서 아시느니라

마6:9 그러므로 너희는 이렇게 기도하라 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지여 이름이 거룩히 여김을 받으시오며

마6:10 나라가 임하시오며 뜻이 하늘에서 이룬 것 같이 땅에서도 이루어지이다

마6:11 오늘 우리에게 일용할 양식을 주시옵고

마6:12 우리가 우리에게 죄 지은 자를 사하여 준 것 같이 우리 죄를 사하여 주시옵고

마6:13 우리를 시험에 들게 하지 마시옵고 다만 악에서 구하시옵소서 (나라와 권세와 영광이 아버지께 영원히 있사옵나이다 아멘)

마6:14 너희가 사람의 잘못을 용서하면 너희 하늘 아버지께서도 너희 잘못을 용서하시려니와

마6:15 너희가 사람의 잘못을 용서하지 아니하면 너희 아버지께서도 너희 잘못을 용서하지 아니하시리라

마6:16 금식할 때에 너희는 외식하는 자들과 같이 슬픈 기색을 보이지 말라 그들은 금식하는 것을 사람에게 보이려고 얼굴을 흉하게 하느니라 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라

마6:17 너는 금식할 때에 머리에 기름을 바르고 얼굴을 씻으라

마6:18 이는 금식하는 자로 사람에게 보이지 않고 오직 은밀한 중에 계신 네 아버지께 보이게 하려 함이라 은밀한 중에 보시는 네 아버지께서 갚으시리라

마6:19 너희를 위하여 보물을 땅에 쌓아 두지 말라 거기는 좀과 동록(銅綠)이 해하며 도둑이 구멍을 뚫고 도둑질하느니라

마6:20 오직 너희를 위하여 보물을 하늘에 쌓아 두라 저기는 좀이나 동록이 해하지 못하며 도둑이 구멍을 뚫지도 못하고 도둑질도 못하느니라

마6:21 네 보물 있는 그 곳에는 네 마음도 있느니라

마6:22 눈은 몸의 등불이니 그러므로 네 눈이 성하면 온 몸이 밝을 것이요

마6:23 눈이 나쁘면 온 몸이 어두울 것이니 그러므로 네게 있는 빛이 어두우면 그 어둠이 얼마나 더하겠느냐

마6:24 한 사람이 두 주인을 섬기지 못할 것이니 혹 이를 미워하고 저를 사랑하거나 혹 이를 중히 여기고 저를 경히 여김이라 너희가 하나님과 재물을 겸하여 섬기지 못하느니라

마6:25 그러므로 내가 너희에게 이르노니 목숨을 위하여 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 몸을 위하여 무엇을 입을까 염려하지 말라 목숨이 음식보다 중하지 아니하며 몸이 의복보다 중하지 아니하냐

마6:26 공중의 새를 보라 심지도 않고 거두지도 않고 창고에 모아 들이지도 아니하되 너희 하늘 아버지께서 기르시나니 너희는 이것들보다 귀하지 아니하냐

마6:27 너희 중에 누가 염려함으로 그 키를 한 자라도 더할 수 있겠느냐

마6:28 또 너희가 어찌 의복을 위하여 염려하느냐 들의 백합화가 어떻게 자라는가 생각하여 보라 수고도 아니하고 길쌈도 아니하느니라

마6:29 그러나 내가 너희에게 말하노니 솔로몬의 모든 영광으로도 입은 것이 이 꽃 하나만 같지 못하였느니라

마6:30 오늘 있다가 내일 아궁이에 던져지는 들풀도 하나님이 이렇게 입히시거든 하물며 너희일까보냐 믿음이 작은 자들아

마6:31 그러므로 염려하여 이르기를 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 무엇을 입을까 하지 말라

마6:32 이는 다 이방인들이 구하는 것이라 너희 하늘 아버지께서 이 모든 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 줄을 아시느니라

마6:33 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라

마6:34 그러므로 내일 일을 위하여 염려하지 말라 내일 일은 내일이 염려할 것이요 한 날의 괴로움은 그 날로 족하니라

Deuteronomy 31.

31:1 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel:

31:2 "I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross the Jordan.'

31:3 The LORD your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the LORD said.

31:4 And the LORD will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land.

31:5 The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you.

31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

31:7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their forefathers to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance.

31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

31:9 So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.

31:10 Then Moses commanded them: "At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Feast of Tabernacles,

31:11 when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing.

31:12 Assemble the people--men, women and children, and the aliens living in your towns--so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.

31:13 Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."

31:14 The LORD said to Moses, "Now the day of your death is near. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the Tent of Meeting, where I will commission him." So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the Tent of Meeting.

31:15 Then the LORD appeared at the Tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the Tent.

31:16 And the LORD said to Moses: "You are going to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.

31:17 On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?'

31:18 And I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

31:19 "Now write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them.

31:20 When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their forefathers, and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant.

31:21 And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath."

31:22 So Moses wrote down this song that day and taught it to the Israelites.

31:23 The LORD gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: "Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you."

31:24 After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end,

31:25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD:

31:26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.

31:27 For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have been rebellious against the LORD while I am still alive and with you, how much more will you rebel after I die!

31:28 Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to testify against them.

31:29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall upon you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and provoke him to anger by what your hands have made."

31:30 And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel:

Psalms 119 97-120.

119:97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.

119:98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.

119:99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

119:100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.

119:101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.

119:102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.

119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

119:104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

119:106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws.

119:107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word.

119:108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws.

119:109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law.

119:110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts.

119:111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart.

119:112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

119:113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law.

119:114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

119:115 Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God!

119:116 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.

119:117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees.

119:118 You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain.

119:119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes.

119:120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.

Isaiah 58.

58:1 "Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the house of Jacob their sins.

58:2 For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.

58:3 'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?' "Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.

58:4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.

58:5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for a man to humble himself? Is it only for bowing one's head like a reed and for lying on sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the LORD?

58:6 "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?

58:7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter--when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

58:8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

58:9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,

58:10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

58:11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

58:12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

58:13 "If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD'S holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,

58:14 then you will find your joy in the LORD, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob." The mouth of the LORD has spoken.

Matthew 6.

6:1 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

6:2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

6:4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

6:5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

6:7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

6:8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

6:9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

6:10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

6:11 Give us today our daily bread.

6:12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'

6:14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

6:15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

6:16 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

6:17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

6:18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.

6:23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

6:28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

6:29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

6:30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

6:31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

6:32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
