사무엘상 4 장.

삼상4:1 사무엘의 말이 온 이스라엘에 전파되니라 이스라엘은 나가서 블레셋 사람들과 싸우려고 에벤에셀 곁에 진 치고 블레셋 사람들은 아벡에 진 쳤더니

삼상4:2 블레셋 사람들이 이스라엘에 대하여 전열을 벌이니라 그 둘이 싸우다가 이스라엘이 블레셋 사람들 앞에서 패하여 그들에게 전쟁에서 죽임을 당한 군사가 사천 명 가량이라

삼상4:3 백성이 진영으로 돌아오매 이스라엘 장로들이 이르되 여호와께서 어찌하여 우리에게 오늘 블레셋 사람들 앞에 패하게 하셨는고 여호와의 언약궤를 실로에서 우리에게로 가져다가 우리 중에 있게 하여 그것으로 우리를 우리 원수들의 손에서 구원하게 하자 하니

삼상4:4 이에 백성이 실로에 사람을 보내어 그룹 사이에 계신 만군의 여호와의 언약궤를 거기서 가져왔고 엘리의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스는 하나님의 언약궤와 함께 거기에 있었더라

삼상4:5 여호와의 언약궤가 진영에 들어올 때에 온 이스라엘이 큰 소리로 외치매 땅이 울린지라

삼상4:6 블레셋 사람이 그 외치는 소리를 듣고 이르되 히브리 진영에서 큰 소리로 외침은 어찌 됨이냐 하다가 여호와의 궤가 진영에 들어온 줄을 깨달은지라

삼상4:7 블레셋 사람이 두려워하여 이르되 신이 진영에 이르렀도다 하고 또 이르되 우리에게 화로다 전날에는 이런 일이 없었도다

삼상4:8 우리에게 화로다 누가 우리를 이 능한 신들의 손에서 건지리요 그들은 광야에서 여러 가지 재앙으로 애굽인을 친 신들이니라

삼상4:9 너희 블레셋 사람들아 강하게 되며 대장부가 되라 너희가 히브리 사람의 종이 되기를 그들이 너희의 종이 되었던 것 같이 되지 말고 대장부 같이 되어 싸우라 하고

삼상4:10 블레셋 사람들이 쳤더니 이스라엘이 패하여 각기 장막으로 도망하였고 살륙이 심히 커서 이스라엘 보병의 엎드러진 자가 삼만 명이었으며

삼상4:11 하나님의 궤는 빼앗겼고 엘리의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스는 죽임을 당하였더라

삼상4:12 당일에 어떤 베냐민 사람이 진영에서 달려나와 자기의 옷을 찢고 자기의 머리에 티끌을 덮어쓰고 실로에 이르니라

삼상4:13 그가 이를 때는 엘리가 길 옆 자기의 의자에 앉아 기다리며 그의 마음이 하나님의 궤로 말미암아 떨릴 즈음이라 그 사람이 성읍에 들어오며 알리매 온 성읍이 부르짖는지라

삼상4:14 엘리가 그 부르짖는 소리를 듣고 이르되 이 떠드는 소리는 어찌 됨이냐 그 사람이 빨리 가서 엘리에게 말하니

삼상4:15 그 때에 엘리의 나이가 구십팔 세라 그의 눈이 어두워서 보지 못하더라

삼상4:16 그 사람이 엘리에게 말하되 나온 진중에서 나온 자라 내가 오늘 진중에서 도망하여 왔나이다 엘리가 이르되 내 아들아 일이 어떻게 되었느냐

삼상4:17 소식을 전하는 자가 대답하여 이르되 이스라엘이 블레셋 사람들 앞에서 도망하였고 백성 중에는 큰 살륙이 있었고 당신의 두 아들 홉니와 비느하스도 죽임을 당하였고 하나님의 궤는 빼앗겼나이다

삼상4:18 하나님의 궤를 말할 때에 엘리가 자기 의자에서 뒤로 넘어져 문 곁에서 목이 부러져 죽었으니 나이가 많고 비대한 까닭이라 그가 이스라엘의 사사가 된지 사십 년이었더라

삼상4:19 그의 며느리인 비느하스의 아내가 임신하여 해산 때가 가까웠더니 하나님의 궤를 빼앗긴 것과 그의 시아버지와 남편이 죽은 소식을 듣고 갑자기 아파서 몸을 구부려 해산하고

삼상4:20 죽어갈 때에 곁에 서 있던 여인들이 그에게 이르되 두려워하지 말라 네가 아들을 낳았다 하되 그가 대답하지도 아니하며 관념하지도 아니하고

삼상4:21 이르기를 영광이 이스라엘에서 떠났다 하고 아이 이름을 이가봇이라 하였으니 하나님의 궤가 빼앗겼고 그의 시아버지와 남편이 죽었기 때문이며

삼상4:22 또 이르기를 하나님의 궤를 빼앗겼으므로 영광이 이스라엘에서 떠났다 하였더라

로 마 서 4 장.

롬4:1 그런즉 육신으로 우리 조상인 아브라함이 무엇을 얻었다하리요

롬4:2 만일 아브라함이 행위로써 의롭다 하심을 받았으면 자랑할 것이 있으려니와 하나님 앞에서는 없느니라

롬4:3 성경이 무엇을 말하느냐 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으매 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨진 바 되었느니라

롬4:4 일하는 자에게는 그 삯이 은혜로 여겨지지 아니하고 보수로 여겨지거니와

롬4:5 일을 아니할지라도 경건하지 아니한 자를 의롭다 하시는 이를 믿는 자에게는 그의 믿음을 의로 여기시나니

롬4:6 일한 것이 없이 하나님께 의로 여기심을 받는 사람의 복에 대하여 다윗이 말한 바

롬4:7 불법이 사함을 받고 죄가 가리어짐을 받는 사람들은 복이 있고

롬4:8 주께서 그 죄를 인정하지 아니하실 사람은 복이 있도다

롬4:9 그런즉 이 복이 할례자에게냐 혹은 무할례자에게도냐 무릇 우리가 말하기를 아브라함에게는 그 믿음이 의로 여겨졌다 하노라

롬4:10 그런즉 그것이 어떻게 여겨졌느냐 할례시냐 무할례시냐 할례시가 아니요 무할례시니라

롬4:11 그가 할례의 표를 받은 것은 무할례시에 믿음으로 된 의를 인친 것이니 이는 무할례자로서 믿는 모든 자의 조상이 되어 그들도 의로 여기심을 얻게 하려 하심이라

롬4:12 또한 할례자의 조상이 되었나니 곧 할례 받을 자에게뿐 아니라 우리 조상 아브라함이 무할례시에 가졌던 믿음의 자취를 따르는 자들에게도 그러하니라

롬4:13 아브라함이나 그 후손에게 세상의 상속자가 되리라고 하신 언약은 율법으로 말미암은 것이 아니요 오직 믿음의 의로 말미암은 것이니라

롬4:14 만일 율법에 속한 자들이 상속자이면 믿음은 헛것이 되고 약속은 파기되었느니라

롬4:15 율법은 진노를 이루게 하나니 율법이 없는 곳에는 범법도 없느니라

롬4:16 그러므로 상속자가 되는 그것이 은혜에 속하기 위하여 믿음으로 되나니 이는 그 약속을 그 모든 후손에게 굳게 하려 하심이라 율법에 속한 자에게뿐만 아니라 아브라함의 믿음에 속한 자에게도 그러하니 아브라함은 우리 모든 사람의 조상이라

롬4:17 기록된 바 내가 너를 많은 민족의 조상으로 세웠다 하심과 같으니 그가 믿은 바 하나님은 죽은 자를 살리시며 없는 것을 있는 것으로 부르시는 이시니라

롬4:18 아브라함이 바랄 수 없는 중에 바라고 믿었으니 이는 네 후손이 이같으리라 하신 말씀대로 많은 민족의 조상이 되게 하려 하심이라

롬4:19 그가 백 세나 되어 자기 몸이 죽은 것 같고 사라의 태가 죽은 것 같음을 알고도 믿음이 약하여지지 아니하고

롬4:20 믿음이 없어 하나님의 약속을 의심하지 않고 믿음으로 견고하여져서 하나님께 영광을 돌리며

롬4:21 약속하신 그것을 또한 능히 이루실 줄을 확신하였으니

롬4:22 그러므로 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨졌느니라

롬4:23 그에게 의로 여겨졌다 기록된 것은 아브라함만 위한 것이 아니요

롬4:24 의로 여기심을 받을 우리도 위함이니 곧 예수 우리 주를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 이를 믿는 자니라

롬4:25 예수는 우리가 범죄한 것 때문에 내줌이 되고 또한 우리를 의롭다 하시기 위하여 살아나셨느니라

예레미야 43 장.

렘43:1 예레미야가 모든 백성에게 그들의 하나님 여호와의 말씀 곧 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 자기를 보내사 그들에게 이르신 이 모든 말씀을 말하기를 마치니

렘43:2 호사야의 아들 아사랴와 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 오만한 자가 예레미야에게 말하기를 네가 거짓을 말하는도다 우리 하나님 여호와께서 너희는 애굽에 살려고 그리로 가지 말라고 너를 보내어 말하게 하지 아니하셨느니라

렘43:3 이는 네리야의 아들 바룩이 너를 부추겨서 우리를 대적하여 갈대아 사람의 손에 넘겨 죽이며 바벨론으로 붙잡아가게 하려 함이라

렘43:4 이에 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군 지휘관과 모든 백성이 유다 땅에 살라 하시는 여호와의 목소리를 순종하지 아니하고

렘43:5 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군 지휘관이 유다의 남은 자 곧 쫓겨났던 여러 나라 가운데에서 유다 땅에 살려 하여 돌아온 자

렘43:6 곧 남자와 여자의 유아와 왕의 딸들과 사령관 느부사라단이 사반이 손자 아히감의 아들 그다랴에게 맡겨 둔 모든 사람과 선지자 예레미야와 네리야의 아들 바룩을 거느리고

렘43:7 애굽 땅에 들어가 다바네스에 이르렀으니 그들이 여호와의 목소리를 순종하지 아니함이러라

렘43:8 다바네스에서 여호와의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하여 이르시되

렘43:9 너는 유다 사람의 눈 앞에서 네 손으로 큰 돌 여러 개를 가져다가 다바네스에 있는 바로의 궁전 대문에 벽돌로 쌓은 축대에 진흙으로 감추라

렘43:10 그리고 너는 그들에게 말하기를 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 보라 내가 내 종 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕을 불러오리니 그가 그의 왕좌를 내가 감추게 한 이 돌들 위에 놓고 또 그 화력한 큰 장막을 그 위에 치리라

렘43:11 그가 와서 애굽 땅을 치고 죽일 자는 죽이고 사로잡을 자는 사로잡고 칼로 칠 자는 칼로 칠 것이라

렘43:12 내가 애굽 신들의 신당들을 불지르리라 느부갓네살이 그들을 불사르며 그들을 사로잡을 것이요 목자가 그의 몸에 옷을 두름 같이 애굽 땅을 자기 몸에 두르고 평안히 그 곳을 떠날 것이며

렘43:13 그가 또 애굽 땅 벧세메스의 석상들을 깨뜨리고 애굽 신들의 신당들을 불사르리라 하셨다 할지니라 하니라

시편 18 장.

시18:1 나의 힘이신 여호와여 내가 주를 사랑하나이다

시18:2 여호와는 나의 반석이시요 나의 요새이시요 나를 건지시는 이시요 나의 하나님이시요 내가 그 안에 피할 나의 바위시요 나의 방패시요 나의 구원의 뿔이시요 나의 산성이시로다

시18:3 내가 찬송 받으실 여호와께 아뢰리니 내 원수들에게서 구원을 얻으리로다

시18:4 사망의 줄이 나를 얽고 불의의 창수가 나를 두렵게 하였으며

시18:5 스올의 줄이 나를 두르고 사망의 올무가 내게 이르렀도다

시18:6 내가 환난 중에서 여호와께 아뢰며 나의 하나님께 부르짖었더니 그가 그의 성전에서 내 소리를 들으심이여 그의 앞에서 나의 부르짖음이 그의 귀에 들렸도다

시18:7 이에 땅이 진동하고 산들의 터도 요동하였으니 그의 진노로 말미암음이로다

시18:8 그의 코에서 연기가 오르고 입에서 불이 나와 사름이여 그 불에 숯이 피었도다

시18:9 그가 또 하늘을 드리우시고 강림하시니 그의 발 아래는 어두캄캄하도다

시18:10 그룹을 타고 다니심이여 바람 날개를 타고 높이 솟아오르셨도다

시18:11 그가 흑암을 그의 숨는 곳으로 삼으사 장막 같이 자기를 두르게 하심이여 곧 물의 흑암과 공중의 빽빽한 구름으로 그리하시도다

시18:12 그 앞에 광채로 말미암아 빽빽한 구름이 지나며 우박과 숯불이 내리도다

시18:13 여호와께서 하늘에서 우렛소리를 내시고 지존하신 이가 음성을 내시며 우박과 숯불을 내리시도다

시18:14 그의 화살을 날려 그들을 흩으심이여 많은 번개로 그들을 깨뜨리셨도다

시18:15 이럴 때에 여호와의 꾸지람과 콧김으로 말미암아 물 밑이 드러나고 세상의 터가 나타났도다

시18:16 그가 높은 곳에서 손을 펴사 나를 붙잡아 주심이여 많은 물에서 나를 건져내셨도다

시18:17 나를 강한 원수와 미워하는 자에게서 건지셨음이여 그들은 나보다 힘이 세기 때문이로다

시18:18 그들이 나의 재앙의 날에 내게 이르렀으나 여호와께서 나의 의지가 되셨도다

시18:19 나를 넓은 곳으로 인도하시고 나를 기뻐하시므로 나를 구원하셨도다

시18:20 여호와께서 내 의를 따라 상 주시며 내 손의 깨끗함을 따라 내게 갚으셨으니

시18:21 이는 내가 여호와의 도를 지키고 악하게 내 하나님을 떠나지 아니하였으며

시18:22 그의 모든 규례가 내 앞에 있고 내게서 그의 율례를 버리지 아니하였음이로다

시18:23 또한 나는 그의 앞에 완전하여 나의 죄악에서 스스로 자신을 지켰나니

시18:24 그러므로 여호와께서 내 의를 따라 갚으시되 그의 목전에서 내 손이 깨끗한 만큼 내게 갚으셨도다

시18:25 자비로운 자에게는 주의 자비로우심을 나타내시며 완전한 자에게는 주의 완전하심을 보이시며

시18:26 깨끗한 자에게는 주의 깨끗하심을 보이시며 사악한 자에게는 주의 거스르심을 보이시리니

시18:27 주께서 곤고한 백성은 구원하시고 교만한 눈은 낮추시리이다

시18:28 주께서 나의 등불을 켜심이여 여호와 내 하나님이 내 흑암을 밝히시리이다

시18:29 내가 주를 의뢰하고 적군을 향해 달리며 내 하나님을 의지하고 담을 뛰어넘나이다

시18:30 하나님의 도는 완전하고 여호와의 말씀은 순수하니 그는 자기에게 피하는 모든 자의 방패시로다

시18:31 여호와 외에 누가 하나님이며 우리 하나님 외에 누가 반석이냐

시18:32 이 하나님이 힘으로 내게 띠 띠우시며 내 길을 완전하게 하시며

시18:33 나의 발을 암사슴 발 같게 하시며 나를 나의 높은 곳에 세우시며

시18:34 내 손을 가르쳐 싸우게 하시니 내 팔이 놋 활을 당기도다

시18:35 또 주께서 주의 구원하는 방패를 내게 주시며 주의 오른손이 나를 붙들고 주의 온유함이 나를 크게 하셨나이다

시18:36 내 걸음을 넓게 하셨고 나를 실족하지 않게 하셨나이다

시18:37 내가 내 원수를 뒤쫓아가리니 그들이 망하기 전에는 돌아서지 아니하리이다

시18:38 내가 그들을 쳐서 능히 일어나지 못하게 하리니 그들이 내 발 아래에 엎드러지리이다

시18:39 주께서 나를 전쟁하게 하려고 능력으로 내게 띠 띠우사 일어나 나를 치는 자들이 내게 굴복하게 하셨나이다

시18:40 또 주께서 내 원수들에게 등을 내게로 향하게 하시고 나를 미워하는 자들을 내가 끊어 버리게 하셨나이다

시18:41 그들이 부르짖으나 구원할 자가 없었고 여호와께 부르짖어도 그들에게 대답하지 아니하셨나이다

시18:42 내가 그들을 바람 앞에 티끌 같이 부서뜨리고 거리의 진흙 같이 쏟아 버렸나이다

시18:43 주께서 나를 백성의 다툼에서 건지시고 여러 민족의 으뜸으로 삼으셨으니 내가 알지 못하는 백성이 나를 섬기리이다

시18:44 그들이 내 소문을 들은 즉시로 내게 청종함이여 이방인들이 내게 복종하리로다

시18:45 이방 자손들이 쇠잔하여 그 견고한 곳에서 떨며 나오리로다

시18:46 여호와는 살아 계시니 나의 반석을 찬송하며 내 구원의 하나님을 높일지로다

시18:47 이 하나님이 나를 위하여 보복해 주시고 민족들이 내게 복종하게 해 주시도다

시18:48 주께서 나를 내 원수들에게서 구조하시니 주께서 나를 대적하는 자들의 위에 나를 높이 드시고 나를 포악한 자에게서 건지시나이다

시18:49 여호와여 이러므로 내가 이방 나라들 중에서 주께 감사하며 주의 이름을 찬송하리이다

시18:50 여호와께서 그 왕에게 큰 구원을 주시며 기름 부음 받은 자에게 인자를 베푸심이여 영원토록 다윗과 그 후손에게로다

1 Samuel 4.

4:1 And Samuel's word came to all Israel. Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek.

4:2 The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield.

4:3 When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, "Why did the LORD bring defeat upon us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the LORD'S covenant from Shiloh, so that it may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies."

4:4 So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the LORD Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

4:5 When the ark of the LORD'S covenant came into the camp, all Israel raised such a great shout that the ground shook.

4:6 Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, "What's all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?" When they learned that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp,

4:7 the Philistines were afraid. "A god has come into the camp," they said. "We're in trouble! Nothing like this has happened before.

4:8 Woe to us! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the desert.

4:9 Be strong, Philistines! Be men, or you will be subject to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Be men, and fight!"

4:10 So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers.

4:11 The ark of God was captured, and Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

4:12 That same day a Benjamite ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh, his clothes torn and dust on his head.

4:13 When he arrived, there was Eli sitting on his chair by the side of the road, watching, because his heart feared for the ark of God. When the man entered the town and told what had happened, the whole town sent up a cry.

4:14 Eli heard the outcry and asked, "What is the meaning of this uproar?" The man hurried over to Eli,

4:15 who was ninety-eight years old and whose eyes were set so that he could not see.

4:16 He told Eli, "I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it this very day." Eli asked, "What happened, my son?"

4:17 The man who brought the news replied, "Israel fled before the Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."

4:18 When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. He had led Israel forty years.

4:19 His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the time of delivery. When she heard the news that the ark of God had been captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains.

4:20 As she was dying, the women attending her said, "Don't despair; you have given birth to a son." But she did not respond or pay any attention.

4:21 She named the boy Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel"--because of the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.

4:22 She said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."

Romans 4.

4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter?

4:2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about--but not before God.

4:3 What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."

4:4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.

4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

4:6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

4:7 "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

4:8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

4:9 Is this blessedness only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness.

4:10 Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!

4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So then, he is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.

4:12 And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

4:13 It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

4:14 For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless,

4:15 because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

4:16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

4:17 As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.

4:18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

4:19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead.

4:20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,

4:21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

4:22 This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."

4:23 The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone,

4:24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Jeremiah 43.

43:1 When Jeremiah finished telling the people all the words of the LORD their God--everything the LORD had sent him to tell them--

43:2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah, "You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, 'You must not go to Egypt to settle there.'

43:3 But Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians, so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon."

43:4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people disobeyed the LORD'S command to stay in the land of Judah.

43:5 Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers led away all the remnant of Judah who had come back to live in the land of Judah from all the nations where they had been scattered.

43:6 They also led away all the men, women and children and the king's daughters whom Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch son of Neriah.

43:7 So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the LORD and went as far as Tahpanhes.

43:8 In Tahpanhes the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:

43:9 "While the Jews are watching, take some large stones with you and bury them in clay in the brick pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh's palace in Tahpanhes.

43:10 Then say to them, 'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will set his throne over these stones I have buried here; he will spread his royal canopy above them.

43:11 He will come and attack Egypt, bringing death to those destined for death, captivity to those destined for captivity, and the sword to those destined for the sword.

43:12 He will set fire to the temples of the gods of Egypt; he will burn their temples and take their gods captive. As a shepherd wraps his garment around him, so will he wrap Egypt around himself and depart from there unscathed.

43:13 There in the temple of the sun in Egypt he will demolish the sacred pillars and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.'"

Psalms 18.

18:1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.

18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

18:3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.

18:4 The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.

18:5 The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.

18:6 In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.

18:7 The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.

18:8 Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.

18:9 He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.

18:10 He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.

18:11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him--the dark rain clouds of the sky.

18:12 Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.

18:13 The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.

18:14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemies, great bolts of lightning and routed them.

18:15 The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

18:16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.

18:17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.

18:18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.

18:19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.

18:20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.

18:21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God.

18:22 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.

18:23 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.

18:24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

18:25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,

18:26 to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.

18:27 You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.

18:28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

18:29 With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

18:30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

18:31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?

18:32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

18:33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.

18:34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

18:35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

18:36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.

18:37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.

18:38 I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.

18:39 You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet.

18:40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.

18:41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them--to the LORD, but he did not answer.

18:42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets.

18:43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations; people I did not know are subject to me.

18:44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cringe before me.

18:45 They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.

18:46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!

18:47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,

18:48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me.

18:49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.

18:50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
