사무엘상 5 장.

삼상5:1 블레셋 사람들이 하나님의 궤를 빼앗아 가지고 에벤에셀에서부터 아스돗에 이르니라

삼상5:2 블레셋 사람들이 하나님의 궤를 가지고 다곤의 신전에 들어가서 다곤 곁에 두었더니

삼상5:3 아스돗 사람들이 이튿날 일찍이 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 엎드러져 그 얼굴이 땅에 닿았는지라 그들이 다곤을 일으켜 다시 그 자리에 세웠더니

삼상5:4 이튿날 아침에 그들이 일찍이 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 또다시 엎드러져 얼굴이 땅에 닿았고 그 머리와 두 손목은 끊어져 문지방에 있고 다곤의 몸뚱이만 남았더라

삼상5:5 그러므로 다곤의 제사장들이나 다곤의 신전에 들어가는 자는 오늘까지 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 아니하더라

삼상5:6 여호와의 손이 아스돗 사람에게 엄중히 더하사 독한 종기의 재앙으로 아스돗과 그 지역을 쳐서 망하게 하니

삼상5:7 아스돗 사람들이 이를 보고 이르되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리와 함께 있지 못하게 할지라 그의 손이 우리와 우리 신 다곤을 친다 하고

삼상5:8 이에 사람을 보내어 블레셋 사람들의 모든 방백을 모으고 이르되 우리가 이스라엘 신의 궤를 어찌하랴 하니 그들이 대답하되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 가드로 옮겨 가라 하므로 이스라엘 신의 궤를 옮겨 갔더니

삼상5:9 그것을 옮겨 간 후에 여호와의 손이 심히 큰 환난을 그 성읍에 더하사 성읍 사람들의 작은 자와 큰 자를 다 쳐서 독한 종기가 나게 하신지라

삼상5:10 이에 그들이 하나님의 궤를 에그론으로 보내니라 하나님의 궤가 에그론에 이른즉 에그론 사람이 부르짖어 이르되 그들이 이스라엘 신의 궤를 우리에게로 가져다가 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이려 한다 하고

삼상5:11 이에 사람을 보내어 블레셋 모든 방백을 모으고 이르되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 보내어 그 있던 곳으로 돌아가게 하고 우리와 우리 백성이 죽임을 면하게 하자 하니 이는 온 성읍이 사망의 환난을 당함이라 거기서 하나님의 손이 엄중하시므로

삼상5:12 죽지 아니한 사람들은 독한 종기로 치심을 당해 성읍의 부르짖음이 하늘에 사무쳤더라

사무엘상 6 장.

삼상6:1 여호와의 궤가 블레셋 사람들의 지방에 있은 지 일곱 달이라

삼상6:2 블레셋 사람들이 제사장들과 복술자들을 불러서 이르되 우리가 여호와의 궤를 어떻게 할까 그것을 어떻게 그 있던 곳으로 보낼 것인지 우리에게 가르치라

삼상6:3 그들이 이르되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 보내려거든 거저 보내지 말고 그에게 속건제를 드려야 할지니라 그리하면 병도 낫고 그의 손을 너희에게서 옮기지 아니하는 이유도 알리라 하니

삼상6:4 그들이 이르되 무엇으로 그에게 드릴 속건제를 삼을까 하니 이르되 블레셋 사람의 방백의 수효대로 금 독종 다섯과 금 쥐 다섯 마리라야 하리니 너희와 너희 통치자에게 내린 재앙이 같음이니라

삼상6:5 그러므로 너희는 너희의 독한 종기의 형상과 땅을 해롭게 하는 쥐의 형상을 만들어 이스라엘 신께 영광을 돌리라 그가 혹 그의 손을 너희와 너희의 신들과 너희 땅에서 가볍게 하실까 하노라

삼상6:6 애굽인과 바로가 그들의 마음을 완악하게 한 것 같이 어찌하여 너희가 너희의 마음을 완악하게 하겠느냐 그가 그들 중에서 재앙을 내린 후에 그들이 백성을 가게 하므로 백성이 떠나지 아니하였느냐

삼상6:7 그러므로 새 수레를 하나 만들고 멍에를 메어 보지 아니한 젖 나는 소 두 마리를 끌어다가 소에 수레를 메우고 그 송아지들은 떼어 집으로 돌려보내고

삼상6:8 여호와의 궤를 가져다가 수레에 싣고 속건제로 드릴 금으로 만든 물건들은 상자에 담아 궤 곁에 두고 그것을 보내어 가게하고

삼상6:9 보고 있다가 만일 궤가 그 본 지역 길로 올라가서 벧세메스로 가면 이 큰 재앙은 그가 우리에게 내린 것이요 그렇지 아니하면 우리를 친 것이 그의 손이 아니요 우연히 당한 것인 줄 알리라 하니라

삼상6:10 그 사람들이 그같이 하여 젖 나는 소 둘을 끌어다가 수레를 메우고 송아지들은 집에 가두고

삼상6:11 여호와의 궤와 및 금 쥐와 그들의 독종의 형상을 담은 상자를 수레 위에 실으니

삼상6:12 암소가 벧세메스 길로 바로 행하여 대로로 가며 갈 때에 울고 좌우로 치우치지 아니하였고 블레셋 방백들은 벧세메스 경계선까지 따라 가니라

삼상6:13 벧세메스 사람들이 골짜기에서 밀을 베다가 눈을 들어 궤를 보고 그 본 것을 기뻐하더니

삼상6:14 수레가 벧세메스 사람 여호수아의 밭 큰 돌 있는 곳에 이르러 선지라 무리가 수레의 나무를 패고 그 암소들을 번제물로 여호와께 드리고

삼상6:15 레위인은 여호와의 궤와 그 궤와 함께 있는 금 보물 담긴 상자를 내려다가 큰 돌 위에 두매 그 날에 벧세메스 사람들이 여호와께 번제와 다른 제사를 드리니라

삼상6:16 블레셋 다섯 방백이 이것을 보고 그 날에 에그론으로 돌아갔더라

삼상6:17 블레셋 사람이 여호와께 속건제물로 드린 금 독종은 이러하니 아스돗을 위하여 하나요 가사를 위하여 하나요 아스글론을 위하여 하나요 가드를 위하여 하나요 에그론을 위하여 하나이며

삼상6:18 드린 바 금 쥐들은 견고한 성읍에서부터 시골의 마을에까지 그리고 사람들이 여호와의 궤를 큰 돌에 이르기까지 다섯 방백들에게 속한 블레셋 사람들의 모든 성읍들의 수대로였더라 그들은 벧세메스 사람 여호수아의 밭에 오늘까지 있더라

삼상6:19 벧세메스 사람들이 여호와의 궤를 들여다 본 까닭에 그들을 치사 (오만) 칠십 명을 죽이신지라 여호와께서 백성을 쳐서 크게 살륙하셨으므로 백성이 슬피 울었더라

삼상6:20 벧세메스 사람들이 이르되 이 거룩하신 하나님 여호와 앞에 누가 능히 서리요 그를 우리에게서 누구에게로 올라가시게 할까 하고

삼상6:21 전령들을 기럇여아림 주민에게 보내어 이르되 블레셋 사람들이 여호와의 궤를 도로 가져왔으니 너희는 내려와서 그것을 너희에게로 옮겨 가라

로 마 서 5 장.

롬5:1 그러므로 우리가 믿음으로 의롭다 하심을 받았으니 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님과 화평을 누리자

롬5:2 또한 그로 말미암아 우리가 믿음으로 서 있는 이 은혜에 들어감을 얻었으며 하나님의 영광을 바라고 즐거워하느니라

롬5:3 다만 이뿐 아니라 우리가 환난 중에도 즐거워하나니 이는 환난은 인내를,

롬5:4 인내는 연단을, 연단은 소망을 이루는 줄 앎이로다

롬5:5 소망이 우리를 부끄럽게 하지 아니함은 우리에게 주신 성령으로 말미암아 하나님의 사랑이 우리 마음에 부은 바 됨이니

롬5:6 우리가 아직 연약한 때에 기약대로 그리스도께서 경건하지 않은 자를 위하여 죽으셨도다

롬5:7 의인을 위하여 죽는 자가 쉽지 않고 선인을 위하여 용감히 죽는 자가 혹 있거니와

롬5:8 우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때에 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으심으로 하나님께서 우리에 대한 자기의 사랑을 확증하셨느니라

롬5:9 그러면 이제 우리가 그의 피로 말미암아 의롭다 하심을 받았으니 더욱 그로 말미암아 진노하심에서 구원을 받을 것이니

롬5:10 곧 우리가 원수 되었을 때에 그의 아들의 죽으심으로 말미암아 하나님과 화목하게 되었은즉 화목하게 된 자로서는 더욱 그의 살아나심으로 말미암아 구원을 받을 것이니라

롬5:11 그뿐 아니라 이제 우리로 화목하게 하신 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님 안에서 또한 즐거워하느니라

롬5:12 그러므로 한 사람으로 말미암아 죄가 세상에 들어오고 죄로 말미암아 사망이 들어왔나니 이와 같이 모든 사람이 죄를 지었으므로 사망이 모든 사람에게 이르렀느니라

롬5:13 죄가 율법 있기 전에도 세상에 있었으나 율법이 없었을 때에는 죄를 죄로 여기지 아니하였느니라

롬5:14 그러나 아담으로부터 모세까지 아담의 범죄와 같은 죄를 짓지 아니한 자들까지도 사망이 왕노릇 하였나니 아담은 오실 자의 모형이라

롬5:15 그러나 이 은사는 그 범죄와 같지 아니하니 곧 한 사람의 범죄를 인하여 많은 사람이 죽었은즉 더욱 하나님의 은혜와 또한 한 사람 예수 그리스도의 은혜로 말미암은 선물은 많은 사람에게 넘쳤느니라

롬5:16 또 이 선물은 범죄한 한 사람으로 말미암은 것과 같지 아니하니 심판은 한 사람으로 말미암아 정죄에 이르렀으나 은사는 많은 범죄로 말미암아 의롭다 하심에 이름이니라

롬5:17 한 사람의 범죄로 말미암아 사망이 그 한 사람을 통하여 왕 노릇 하였은즉 더욱 은혜와 의의 선물을 넘치게 받는 자들은 한 분 예수 그리스도를 통하여 생명 안에서 왕노릇 하리로다

롬5:18 그런즉 한 범죄로 많은 사람이 정죄에 이른 것 같이 한 의로운 행위로 말미암아 많은 사람이 의롭다 하심을 받아 생명에 이르렀느니라

롬5:19 한 사람이 순종하지 아니함으로 많은 사람이 죄인 된 것 같이 한 사람이 순종하심으로 많은 사람이 의인이 되리라

롬5:20 율법이 들어온 것은 범죄를 더하게 하려 함이라 그러나 죄가 더한 곳에 은혜가 더욱 넘쳤나니

롬5:21 이는 죄가 사망 안에서 왕 노릇 한 것 같이 은혜도 또한 의로 말미암아 왕 노릇 하여 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 영생에 이르게 하려 함이라

예레미야 44 장.

렘44:1 애굽 땅에 사는 모든 유다 사람 곧 믹돌과 다바네스와 놉과 바드로스 지방에 사는 자에 대하여 말씀이 예레이야에게 임하니라 이르시되

렘44:2 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너희가 예루살렘과 유다 모든 성읍에 내린 나의 모든 재난을 보았느니라 보라 오늘 그것들이 황무지가 되었고 사는 사람이 없나니

렘44:3 이는 그들이 자기나 너희가 너희 조상들이 알지 못하는 다른 신들에게 나아가 분향하여 섬겨서 나의 노여움을 일으킨 악행으로 말미암음이라

렘44:4 내가 나의 모든 종 선지자들을 너희에게 보내되 끊임없이 보내어 이르기를 너희는 내가 미워하는 이 가증한 일을 행하지 말라 하였으나

렘44:5 그들이 듣지 아니하며 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 다른 신들에게 여전히 분향하여 그들의 악에서 돌이키지 아니하였으므로

렘44:6 나의 분과 나의 노여움을 쏟아서 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리를 불살랐더니 그것들이 오늘과 같이 폐허와 황무지가 되었느니라

렘44:7 만군의 하나님 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하셨느니라 너희가 어찌하여 큰 악을 행하여 자기 영혼을 해하며 유다 가운데에서 너희의 남자와 여자와 아이와 젖 먹은 자를 멸절하여 남은 자가 없게 하려느냐

렘44:8 어찌하여 너희가 너희 손이 만든 것으로 나의 노여움을 일으켜 너희가 가서 머물러 사는 애굽 땅에서 다른 신들에게 분향함으로 끊어 버림을 당하여 세계 여러 나라 가운데에서 저주와 수치 거리가 되고자 하느냐

렘44:9 너희가 유다 땅과 예루살렘 거리에서 행한 너희 조상들의 악행과 유다 왕들의 악행과 왕비들의 악행과 너희의 악행과 너희 아내들의 악행을 잊었느냐

렘44:10 그들이 오늘까지 겸손하지 아니하며 두려워하지도 아니하고 내가 너희와 너희 조상들 앞에 세운 나의 율법과 나의 법규를 지켜 행하지 아니하느니라

렘44:11 그러므로 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 보라 내가 얼굴을 너희에게로 향하여 환난을 내리고 온 유다를 끊어 버릴 것이며

렘44:12 내가 또 애굽 땅에 머물러 살기로 고집하고 그리고 들어간 유다의 남은 자들을 처단하리니 그들이 다 멸망하여 애굽 땅에서 엎드러질 것이라 그들이 칼과 기근에 망하되 낮은 자로부터 높은 자까지 칼과 기근에 죽어서 저주와 놀램과 조롱과 수치의 대상이 되리라

렘44:13 내가 예루살렘을 벌한 것 같이 애굽 땅에 사는 자들을 칼과 기근과 전염병으로 벌하리니

렘44:14 애굽 땅에 들어가서 거기에 머물러 살려는 유다의 남은 자 중에 피하거나 살아 남아 소원대로 돌아와서 살고자 하여 유다 땅에 돌아올 자가 없을 것이라 도망치는 자들 외에는 돌아올 자가 없으리라 하셨느니라

렘44:15 그리하여 자기 아내들이 다른 신들에게 분향하는 줄을 아는 모든 남자와 곁에 섰던 모든 여인 곧 애굽 땅 바드로스에 사는 모든 백성의 큰 무리가 예레미야에게 대답하여 이르되

렘44:16 네가 여호와의 이름으로 우리에게 하는 말을 우리가 듣지 아니하고

렘44:17 우리 입에서 낸 모든 말을 반드시 실행하여 우리가 본래 하던 것 곧 우리와 우리 선조와 우리 왕들과 우리 고관들이 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에서 하던 대로 하늘의 여왕에게 분향하고 그 앞에 전제를 드리리라 그 때에는 우리가 먹을 것이 풍부하며 복을 받고 재난을 당하지 아니하였더니

렘44:18 우리가 하늘의 여왕에게 분향하고 그 앞에 전제 드리던 것을 폐한 후부터는 모든 것이 궁핍하고 칼과 기근에 멸망을 당하였느니라 하며

렘44:19 여인들은 이르되 우리가 하늘의 여왕에게 분향하고 그 앞에 전제를 드릴 때에 어찌 우리 남편의 허락이 없이 그의 형상과 같은 과자를 만들어 놓고 전제를 드렸느냐 하는지라

렘44:20 예레미야가 남녀 모든 무리 곧 이 말로 대답하는 모든 백성에게 일러 이르되

렘44:21 너희가 너희 선조와 너희 왕들과 고관들과 유다 땅 백성이 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에서 분향한 일을 여호와께서 기억하셨고 그의 마음에 떠오른 것이 아닌가

렘44:22 여호와께서 너희 악행과 가증한 행위를 더 참을 수 없으셨으므로 너희 땅이 오늘과 같이 황폐하며 놀램과 저줏거리가 되어 주민이 없게 되었나니

렘44:23 너희가 분향하여 여호와께 범죄하였으며 여호와의 목소리를 순종하지 아니하고 여호와의 율법과 법규와 여러 증거대로 행하지 아니하였으므로 이 재난이 오늘과 같이 너희에게 일어났느니라

렘44:24 예레미야가 다시 모든 백성과 모든 여인에게 말하되 애굽 땅에서 사는 모든 유다 사람이여 여호와의 말씀을 들으라

렘44:25 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 너희와 너희 아내들이 입으로 말하고 손으로 이루려 하여 이르기를 우리가 서원한 대로 반드시 이행하여 하늘의 여왕에게 분향하고 전제를 드리리라 하였은즉 너희 서원을 성취하며 너희 서원을 이행하라 하시느니라

렘44:26 그러므로 애굽 땅에서 사는 모든 유다 사람이여 여호와의 말씀을 들으라 여호와께서 말씀하시되 보라 내가 나의 큰 이름으로 맹세하였은즉 애굽 온 땅에 사는 유다 사람들의 입에서 다시는 내 이름을 부르며 주 여호와의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노라 하는 자가 없으리라

렘44:27 보라 내가 깨어 있어 그들에게 재난을 내리고 복을 내리지 아니하리니 애굽 땅에 있는 유다 모든 사람이 칼과 기근에 망하여 멸절되리라

렘44:28 그런즉 칼을 피한 소수의 사람이 애굽 땅에서 나와 유다 땅으로 돌아오리니 애굽 땅에 들어가서 거기에 머물러 사는 유다의 모든 남은 자가 내 말과 그들의 말 가운데서 누구의 말이 진리인지 알리라

렘44:29 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 이 곳에서 너희를 벌할 표징이 이것이라 내가 너희에게 재난을 내리리라 한 말이 반드시 이루어 질 것을 그것으로 알게 하리라

렘44:30 보라 내가 유다의 시드기야 왕을 그의 원수 곧 그의 생명을 찾는 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕의 손에 넘긴 것 같이 애굽의 바로 호브라 왕을 그의 원수들 곧 그의 생명을 찾는 자들의 손에 넘겨주리라 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하셨느니라

시편 19 장.

시19:1 하늘이 하나님의 영광을 선포하고 궁창이 그의 손으로 하신 일을 나타내는도다

시19:2 날은 날에게 말하고 밤은 밤에게 지식을 전하니

시19:3 언어도 없고 말씀도 없으며 들리는 소리도 없으나

시19:4 그의 소리가 온 땅에 통하고 그의 말씀이 세상 끝까지 이르도다 하나님이 해를 위하여 하늘에 장막을 베푸셨도다

시19:5 해는 그의 신방에서 나오는 신랑과 같고 그의 길을 달리기 기뻐하는 장사 같아서

시19:6 하늘 이 끝에서 나와서 하늘 저 끝까지 운행함이여 그의 열기에서 피할 자가 없도다

시19:7 여호와의 율법은 완전하여 영혼을 소성시키며 여호와의 증거는 확실하여 우둔한 자를 지혜롭게 하며

시19:8 여호와의 교훈은 정직하여 마음을 기쁘게 하고 여호와의 계명은 순결하여 눈을 밝게 하시도다

시19:9 여호와를 경외하는 도는 정결하여 영원까지 이르고 여호와의 법도 진실하여 다 의로우니

시19:10 금 곧 많은 순금보다 더 사모할 것이며 꿀과 송이꿀보다 더 달도다

시19:11 또 주의 종이 이것으로 경고를 받고 이것을 지킴으로 상이 크니이다

시19:12 자기 허물을 능히 깨달을 자 누구리요 나를 숨은 허물에서 벗어나게 하소서

시19:13 또 주의 종에게 고의로 죄를 짓지 말게 하사 그 죄가 나를 주장하지 못하게 하소서 그리하면 내가 정직하여 큰 죄과에서 벗어나겠나이다

시19:14 나의 반석이시요 나의 구속자이신 여호와여 내 입의 말과 마음의 묵상이 주님 앞에 열납되기를 원하나이다

1 Samuel 5.

5:1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

5:2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon's temple and set it beside Dagon.

5:3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! They took Dagon and put him back in his place.

5:4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained.

5:5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon's temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.

5:6 The LORD'S hand was heavy upon the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation upon them and afflicted them with tumors.

5:7 When the men of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, "The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy upon us and upon Dagon our god."

5:8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, "What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?" They answered, "Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath." So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.

5:9 But after they had moved it, the LORD'S hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.

5:10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, "They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people."

5:11 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said, "Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it will kill us and our people." For death had filled the city with panic; God's hand was very heavy upon it.

5:12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.

1 Samuel 6.

6:1 When the ark of the LORD had been in Philistine territory seven months,

6:2 the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the LORD? Tell us how we should send it back to its place."

6:3 They answered, "If you return the ark of the god of Israel, do not send it away empty, but by all means send a guilt offering to him. Then you will be healed, and you will know why his hand has not been lifted from you."

6:4 The Philistines asked, "What guilt offering should we send to him?" They replied, "Five gold tumors and five gold rats, according to the number of the Philistine rulers, because the same plague has struck both you and your rulers.

6:5 Make models of the tumors and of the rats that are destroying the country, and pay honor to Israel's god. Perhaps he will lift his hand from you and your gods and your land.

6:6 Why do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When he treated them harshly, did they not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way?

6:7 "Now then, get a new cart ready, with two cows that have calved and have never been yoked. Hitch the cows to the cart, but take their calves away and pen them up.

6:8 Take the ark of the LORD and put it on the cart, and in a chest beside it put the gold objects you are sending back to him as a guilt offering. Send it on its way,

6:9 but keep watching it. If it goes up to its own territory, toward Beth Shemesh, then the LORD has brought this great disaster on us. But if it does not, then we will know that it was not his hand that struck us and that it happened to us by chance."

6:10 So they did this. They took two such cows and hitched them to the cart and penned up their calves.

6:11 They placed the ark of the LORD on the cart and along with it the chest containing the gold rats and the models of the tumors.

6:12 Then the cows went straight up toward Beth Shemesh, keeping on the road and lowing all the way; they did not turn to the right or to the left. The rulers of the Philistines followed them to the boder of Beth-shemesh.

6:13 Now the people of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley, and they raised their eyes and saw the ark and were glad to see it.

6:14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite and stood there where there was a large stone; and they split the wood of the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the LORD.

6:15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the box that was with it, in which were the articles of gold, and put them on the large rock. On that day the people of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and made sacrifices to the LORD.

6:16 The five rulers of the Philistines saw all this and then returned that same day to Ekron.

6:17 These are the gold tumors the Philistines sent as a guilt offering to the LORD--one each for Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron.

6:18 And the number of the gold rats was according to the number of Philistine towns belonging to the five rulers--the fortified towns with their country villages. The large rock, on which they set the ark of the LORD, is a witness to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.

6:19 But God struck down some of the men of Beth Shemesh, putting seventy of them to death because they had looked into the ark of the LORD. The people mourned because of the heavy blow the LORD had dealt them,

6:20 and the men of Beth Shemesh asked, "Who can stand in the presence of the LORD, this holy God? To whom will the ark go up from here?"

6:21 Then they sent messengers to the people of Kiriath Jearim, saying, "The Philistines have returned the ark of the LORD. Come down and take it up to your place."

Romans 5.

5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

5:2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

5:3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;

5:4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

5:5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

5:7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.

5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

5:9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

5:10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

5:11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--

5:13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law.

5:14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.

5:15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

5:16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.

5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

5:18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.

5:19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

5:20 The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,

5:21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jeremiah 44.

44:1 This word came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in Lower Egypt--in Migdol, Tahpanhes and Memphis--and in Upper Egypt:

44:2 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah. Today they lie deserted and in ruins

44:3 because of the evil they have done. They provoked me to anger by burning incense and by worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.

44:4 Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, 'Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!'

44:5 But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.

44:6 Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out; it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins they are today.

44:7 "Now this is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women, the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?

44:8 Why provoke me to anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and reproach among all the nations on earth.

44:9 Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your fathers and by the kings and queens of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?

44:10 To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your fathers.

44:11 "Therefore, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah.

44:12 I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine. They will become an object of cursing and horror, of condemnation and reproach.

44:13 I will punish those who live in Egypt with the sword, famine and plague, as I punished Jerusalem.

44:14 None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives."

44:15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present--a large assembly--and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah,

44:16 "We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD!

44:17 We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our fathers, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm.

44:18 But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine."

44:19 The women added, "When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes like her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?"

44:20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him,

44:21 "Did not the LORD remember and think about the incense burned in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem by you and your fathers, your kings and your officials and the people of the land?

44:22 When the LORD could no longer endure your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became an object of cursing and a desolate waste without inhabitants, as it is today.

44:23 Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed him or followed his law or his decrees or his stipulations, this disaster has come upon you, as you now see."

44:24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including the women, "Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah in Egypt.

44:25 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives have shown by your actions what you promised when you said, 'We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.' "Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows!

44:26 But hear the word of the LORD, all Jews living in Egypt: 'I swear by my great name,' says the LORD, 'that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, "As surely as the Sovereign LORD lives."

44:27 For I am watching over them for harm, not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish by sword and famine until they are all destroyed.

44:28 Those who escape the sword and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few. Then the whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand--mine or theirs.

44:29 "'This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place,' declares the LORD, 'so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.'

44:30 This is what the LORD says: 'I am going to hand Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt over to his enemies who seek his life, just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.'"

Psalms 19.

19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

19:2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.

19:3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

19:4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

19:5 which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.

19:6 It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.

19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

19:9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.

19:10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.

19:11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

19:12 Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults.

19:13 Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
