사무엘하 4 장.

삼하4:1 사울의 아들 이스보셋은 아브넬이 헤브론에서 죽었다 함을 듣고 손의 맥이 풀렸고 온 이스라엘이 놀라니라

삼하4:2 사울의 아들 이스보셋에게 군지휘관 두 사람이 있으니 한 사람의 이름은 바아나요 한 사람의 이름은 레갑이라 베냐민 족속 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들들이더라 브에롯도 베냐민 지파에 속하였으니

삼하4:3 일찍이 브에롯 사람들이 깃다임으로 도망하여 오늘까지 거기에 우거함이더라

삼하4:4 사울의 아들 요나단에게 다리 저는 아들 하나가 있었으니 이름은 므비보셋이라 전에 사울과 요나단이 죽은 소식이 이스르엘에서 올 때에 그의 나이가 다섯 살이었는데 그 유모가 안고 도망할 때 급히 도망하다가 아이가 떨어져 절게 되었더라

삼하4:5 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들 레갑과 바아나가 길을 떠나 볕이 쬘 때 즈음에 이스보셋의 집에 이르니 마침 그가 침상에서 낮잠을 자는지라

삼하4:6 레갑과 그의 형제 바아나가 밀을 가지러 온 체하고 집 가운데로 들어가서 그의 배를 찌르고 도망하였더라

삼하4:7 그들이 집에 들어가니 이스보셋이 침실에서 침상 위에 누워 있는지라 그를 쳐죽이고 목을 베어 그의 머리를 가지고 밤새도록 아라바 길로 가

삼하4:8 헤브론에 이르러 다윗 왕에게 이스보셋의 머리를 드리며 아뢰되 왕의 생명을 해하려 하던 원수 사울의 아들 이스보셋의 머리가 여기 있나이다 여호와께서 오늘 우리 주 되신 왕의 원수를 사울과 그의 자손에게 갚으셨나이다 하니

삼하4:9 다윗이 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들 레갑과 그의 형제 바아나에게 대답하여 그들에게 이르되 내 생명을 여러 환난 가운데서 건지신 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니

삼하4:10 전에 사람이 내게 알리기를 보라 사울이 죽었다 하며 그가 좋은 소식을 전하는 줄로 생각하였어도 내가 그를 잡아 시글락에서 죽여서 그것을 그 소식을 전한 갚음으로 삼았거든

삼하4:11 하물며 악인이 의인을 그의 집 침상 위에서 죽인 것이겠느냐 그런즉 내가 악인의 피흘린 죄를 너희에게 갚아서 너희를 이 땅에서 없이하지 아니하겠느냐 하고

삼하4:12 청년들에게 명령하매 곧 그들을 죽이고 수족을 베어 헤브론 못 가에 매달고 이스보셋의 머리를 가져다가 헤브론에서 아브넬의 무덤에 매장하였더라

사무엘하 5 장.

삼하5:1 이스라엘 모든 지파가 헤브론에 이르러 다윗에게 나아와 이르되 보소서 우리는 왕의 한 골육이니이다

삼하5:2 전에 곧 사울과 우리의 왕이 되었을 때에도 이스라엘을 거느려 출입하게 하신 분은 왕이시었고 여호와께서도 왕에게 말씀하시기를 네가 내 백성 이스라엘의 목자가 되며 네가 이스라엘의 주권자가 되리라 하셨나이다 하니라

삼하5:3 이에 이스라엘 모든 장로가 헤브론에 이르러 왕에게 나아오매 다윗 왕이 헤브론에서 여호와 앞에 그들과 언약을 맺으매 그들이 다윗에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 왕으로 삼으니라

삼하5:4 다윗이 나이가 삼십 세에 왕위에 올라 사십 년 동안 다스렸으되

삼하5:5 헤브론에서 칠 년 육 개월 동안 유다를 다스렸고 예루살렘에서 삼십삼 년 동안 온 이스라엘과 유다를 다스렸더라

삼하5:6 왕과 그의 부하들이 예루살렘으로 가서 그 땅 주민 여부스 사람을 치려 하매 그 사람들이 다윗에게 이르되 네가 결코 이리로 들어오지 못하리라 맹인과 다리 저는 자라도 너를 물리치리라 하니 그들 생각에는 다윗이 이리로 들어오지 못하리라 함이나

삼하5:7 다윗이 시온 산성을 빼앗았으니 이는 다윗 성이더라

삼하5:8 그 날에 다윗이 이르기를 누구든지 여부스 사람을 치거든 물 긷는 데로 올라가서 다윗의 마음에 미워하는 다리 저는 사람과 맹인을 치라 하였으므로 속담이 되어 이르기를 맹인과 다리 저는 사람은 집에 들어오지 못하리라 하더라

삼하5:9 다윗이 그 산성에 살면서 다윗 성이라 이름하고 다윗이 밀로에서부터 안으로 성을 둘러 쌓으니라

삼하5:10 만군의 하나님 여호와께서 함께 계시니 다윗이 점점 강성하여 가니라

삼하5:11 두로 왕 히람이 다윗에게 사절들과 백향목과 목수와 석수를 보내매 그들이 다윗을 위하여 집을 지으니

삼하5:12 다윗이 여호와께서 자기를 세우사 이스라엘 왕으로 삼으신 것과 그의 백성 이스라엘을 위하여 그 나라를 높이신 것을 알았더라

삼하5:13 다윗이 헤브론에서 올라온 후에 예루살렘에서 처첩들을 더 두었으므로 아들과 딸들이 또 다윗에게서 나니

삼하5:14 예루살렘에서 그에게서 난 자들의 이름은 삼무아와 소밥과 나단과 솔로몬과

삼하5:15 입할과 엘리수아와 네벡과 야비아와

삼하5:16 엘리사마와 엘랴다와 엘리벨렛이었더라

삼하5:17 이스라엘이 다윗에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 왕으로 삼았다 함을 블레셋 사람들이 듣고 블레셋 사람들이 다윗을 찾으러 다 올라오매 다윗이 듣고 요새로 나가니라

삼하5:18 블레셋 사람들이 이미 이르러 르바임 골짜기에 가득한지라

삼하5:19 다윗이 여호와께 여쭈어 이르되 내가 블레셋 사람에게로 올라가리이까 여호와께서 그들을 내 손에 넘기시겠나이까하니 여호와께서 다윗에게 말씀하시되 올라가라 내가 반드시 블레셋 사람을 네 손에 넘기리라 하신지라

삼하5:20 다윗이 바알브라심에 이르러 거기서 그들을 치고 다윗이 말하되 여호와께서 물을 흩음 같이 내 앞에서 내 대적을 흩으셨다 하므로 그 곳 이름을 바알브라심 이라 부르니라

삼하5:21 거기서 블레셋 사람들이 그들의 우상을 버렸으므로 다윗과 그의 부하들이 치우니라

삼하5:22 블레셋 사람들이 다시 올라와서 르바임 골짜기에 가득한지라

삼하5:23 다윗이 여호와께 여쭈니 이르시되 올라가지 말고 그들 뒤로 돌아서 뽕나무 수풀 맞은편에서 그들을 기습하되

삼하5:24 뽕나무 꼭대기에서 걸음 걷는 소리가 들리거든 곧 공격하라 그 때에 여호와가 너보다 앞서 나아가서 블레셋 군대를 치리라 하신지라

삼하5:25 이에 다윗이 여호와의 명령대로 행하여 블레셋 사람을 쳐서 게바에서 게셀까지 이르니라

고린도전서 15 장.

고전15:1 형제들아 내가 너희에게 전한 복음을 너희에게 알게 하노니 이는 너희가 받은 것이요 또 그 가운데 선 것이라

고전15:2 너희가 만일 내가 전한 그 말을 굳게 지키고 헛되이 믿지 아니하였으면 그로 말미암아 구원을 받으리라

고전15:3 내가 받은 것을 먼저 너희에게 전하였노니 이는 성경대로 그리스도께서 우리 죄를 위하여 죽으시고

고전15:4 장사 지낸 바 되었다가 성경대로 사흘 만에 다시 살아나사

고전15:5 게바에게 보이시고 후에 열두 제자에게와

고전15:6 그 후에 오백여 형제에게 일시에 보이셨나니 그 중에 지금까지 대다수는 살아 있고 어떤 사람은 잠들었으며

고전15:7 그 후에 야고보에게 보이셨으며 그 후에 모든 사도에게와

고전15:8 맨 나중에 만삭되지 못하여 난 자 같은 내게도 보이셨느니라

고전15:9 나는 사도 중에 가장 작은 자라 나는 하나님의 교회를 박해하였으므로 사도라 칭함 받기를 감당하지 못할 자니라

고전15:10 그러나 내가 나 된 것은 하나님의 은혜로 된 것이니 내게 주신 그의 은혜가 헛되지 아니하여 내가 모든 사도보다 더 많이 수고하였으나 내가 한 것이 아니요 오직 나와 함께 하신 하나님의 은혜로라

고전15:11 그러므로 나나 그들이나 이같이 전파하매 너희도 이같이 믿었느니라

고전15:12 그리스도께서 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나셨다 전파되었거늘 너희 중에서 어떤 사람들은 어찌하여 죽은 자 가운데서 부활이 없다 하느냐

고전15:13 만일 죽은 자의 부활이 없으면 그리스도도 다시 살아나지 못하셨으리라

고전15:14 그리스도께서 만일 다시 살아나지 못하셨으면 우리가 전파하는 것도 헛것이요 또 너희 믿음도 헛것이며

고전15:15 또 우리가 하나님의 거짓 증인으로 발견되리니 우리가 하나님이 그리스도를 다시 살리셨다고 증언하였음이라 만일 죽은 자가 다시 살아나는 일이 없으면 하나님이 그리스도를 다시 살리지 아니하셨으리라

고전15:16 만일 죽은 자가 다시 살아나는 일이 없으면 그리스도도 다시 살아나신 일이 없었을 터이요

고전15:17 그리스도께서 다시 살아나신 일이 없으면 너희의 믿음도 헛되고 너희가 여전히 죄 가운데 있을 것이요

고전15:18 또한 그리스도 안에서 잠자는 자도 망하였으리니

고전15:19 만일 그리스도 안에서 우리의 바라는 것이 다만 이 세상의 삶뿐이면 모든 사람 가운데 우리가 더욱 불쌍한 자이리라

고전15:20 그러나 이제 그리스도께서 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아나사 잠자는 자들의 첫 열매가 되셨도다

고전15:21 사망이 한 사람으로 말미암았으니 죽은 자의 부활도 한 사람으로 말미암는도다

고전15:22 아담 안에서 모든 사람이 죽은 것 같이 그리스도 안에서 모든 사람이 삶을 얻으리라

고전15:23 그러나 각각 자기 차례대로 되리니 먼저는 첫 열매인 그리스도요 다음에는 그가 강림하실 때에 그리스도에게 속한 자요

고전15:24 그 후에는 마지막이니 그가 모든 통치와 모든 권세와 능력을 멸하시고 나라를 아버지 하나님께 바칠 때라

고전15:25 그가 모든 원수를 그 발 아래에 둘 때까지 반드시 왕 노릇 하시리니

고전15:26 맨 나중에 멸망 받을 원수는 사망이니라

고전15:27 만물을 그의 발 아래에 두셨다 하셨으니 만물을 아래 둔다 말씀하실 때에 만물을 그의 아래에 두신 이가 그 중에 들지 아니한 것이 분명하도다

고전15:28 만물을 그에게 복종하게 하실 때에는 아들 자신도 그 때에 만물을 자기에게 복종하게 하신 이에게 복종하게 되리니 이는 하나님이 만유의 주로서 만유 안에 계시려 하심이라

고전15:29 만일 죽은 자들이 도무지 다시 살아나지 못하면 죽은 자들을 위하여 세례를 받는 자들이 무엇을 하겠느냐 어찌하여 그들을 위하여 세례를 받느냐

고전15:30 또 어찌하여 우리가 언제나 위험을 무릅쓰리요

고전15:31 형제들아 내가 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에서 가진 바 너희에 대한 나의 자랑을 두고 단언하노니 나는 날마다 죽노라

고전15:32 내가 사람의 방법으로 에베소에서 맹수로 더불어 싸웠다면 내게 무슨 유익이 있으리요 죽은 자가 다시 살아나지 못한다면 내일 죽을 터이니 먹고 마시자 하리라

고전15:33 속지 말라 악한 동무들은 선한 행실을 더럽히나니

고전15:34 깨어 의를 행하고 죄를 짓지 말라 하나님을 알지 못하는 자가 있기로 내가 너희를 부끄럽게 하기 위하여 말하노라

고전15:35 누가 묻기를 죽은 자들이 어떻게 다시 살아나며 어떠한 몸으로 오느냐 하리니

고전15:36 어리석은 자여 네가 뿌리는 씨가 죽지 않으면 살아나지 못하겠고

고전15:37 또 네가 뿌리는 것은 장래의 형체를 뿌리는 것이 아니요 다만 밀이나 다른 것의 알맹이 뿐이로되

고전15:38 하나님이 그 뜻대로 그에게 형체를 주시되 각 종자에게 그 형체를 주시느니라

고전15:39 육체는 다 같은 육체가 아니니 하나는 사람의 육체요 하나는 짐승의 육체요 하나는 새의 육체요 하나는 물고기의 육체라

고전15:40 하늘에 속한 형체도 있고 땅에 속한 형체도 있으나 하늘에 속한 것의 영광이 따로 있고 땅에 속한 것의 영광이 따로 있으니

고전15:41 해의 영광이 다르고 달의 영광이 다르며 별의 영광도 다른데 별과 별의 영광이 다르도다

고전15:42 죽은 자의 부활도 그와 같으니 썩을 것으로 심고 썩지 아니할 것으로 다시 살아나며

고전15:43 욕된 것으로 심고 영광스러운 것으로 다시 살아나며 약한 것으로 심고 강한 것으로 다시 살아나며

고전15:44 육의 몸으로 심고 신령한 몸으로 다시 살아나나니 육의 몸이 있은 즉 또 영의 몸도 있느니라

고전15:45 기록된 바 첫 사람 아담은 생령이 되었다 함과 같이 마지막 아담은 살려 주는 영이 되었나니

고전15:46 그러나 먼저는 신령한 사람이 아니요 육의 사람이요 그 다음에 신령한 사람이니라

고전15:47 첫 사람은 땅에서 났으니 흙에 속한 자이거니와 둘째 사람은 하늘에서 나셨느니라

고전15:48 무릇 흙에 속한 자들은 저 흙에 속한 자와 같고 무릇 하늘에 속한 자들은 저 하늘에 속한 이와 같으니

고전15:49 우리가 흙에 속한 자의 형상을 입은 것 같이 또한 하늘에 속한 이의 형상을 입으리라

고전15:50 형제들아 내가 이것을 말하노니 혈과 육은 하나님 나라를 이어받을 수 없고 또한 썩는 것은 썩지 아니하는 것을 유업으로 받지 못하느니라

고전15:51 보라 내가 너희에게 비밀을 말하노니 우리가 다 잠 잘 것이 아니요 마지막 나팔에 순식간에 홀연히 다 변화되리니

고전15:52 나팔 소리가 나매 죽은 자들이 썩지 아니할 것으로 다시 살아나고 우리도 변화되리라

고전15:53 이 썩을 것이 반드시 썩지 아니할 것을 입겠고 이 죽을 것이 죽지 아니함을 입으리로다

고전15:54 이 썩을 것이 썩지 아니함을 입고 이 죽을 것이 죽지 아니함을 입을 때에는 사망을 삼키고 이기리라고 기록된 말씀이 응하리라

고전15:55 사망아 너의 승리가 어디 있느냐 사망아 네가 쏘는 것이 어디 있느냐

고전15:56 사망이 쏘는 것은 죄요 죄의 권능은 율법이라

고전15:57 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니

고전15:58 그러므로 내 사랑하는 형제들아 견실하며 흔들리지 말며 항상 주의 일에 더욱 힘쓰는 자들이 되라 이는 너희 수고가 주 안에서 헛되지 않은 줄을 앎이라

에스겔 13 장.

겔13:1 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔13:2 인자야 너는 이스라엘의 예언하는 선지자들에게 경고하여 예언하되 자기 마음대로 예언하는 자에게 말하기를 너희는 여호와의 말씀을 들으라

겔13:3 주 여호와의 말씀에 본 것이 없이 자기 심령을 따라 예언하는 어리석은 선지자에게 화가 있을진저

겔13:4 이스라엘아 너의 선지자들은 황무지에 있는 여우같으니라

겔13:5 너희 선지자들이 성 무너진 곳에 올라가지도 아니하였으며 이스라엘 족속을 위하여 여호와의 날에 전쟁에서 견디게 하려고 성벽을 수축하지도 아니하였느니라

겔13:6 여호와께서 말씀하셨다고 하는 자들이 허탄한 것과 거짓된 점괘를 보며 사람들에게 그 말이 확실히 이루어지기를 바라게 하거니와 그들은 여호와가 보낸 자가 아니라

겔13:7 너희가 말하기는 여호와의 말씀이라 하여도 내가 말한 것이 아닌즉 어찌 허탄한 묵시를 보며 거짓된 점괘를 말한 것이 아니냐

겔13:8 그러므로 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 너희가 허탄한 것을 말하며 거짓된 것을 보았은즉 내가 너희를 치리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔13:9 그 선지자들이 허탄한 묵시를 보며 거짓 것을 점쳤으니 내 손이 그들을 쳐서 내 백성의 공회에 들어오지 못하게 하며 이스라엘 족속의 호적에도 기록되지 못하게 하며 이스라엘 땅에도 들어가지 못하게 하리니 너희가 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라

겔13:10 이렇게 칠 것은 그들이 내 백성을 유혹하여 평강이 없으나 평강이 있다 함이라 어떤 사람이 담을 쌓을 때에 그들이 회칠을 하는도다

겔13:11 그러므로 너는 회칠하는 자에게 이르기를 그것이 무너지리라 폭우가 내리며 큰 우박덩이가 떨어지며 폭풍이 몰아치리니

겔13:12 그 담이 무너진즉 어떤 사람이 너희에게 말하기를 그것에 칠한 회가 어디 있느냐 하지 아니하겠느냐

겔13:13 그러므로 나 주 여호와가 말하노라 내가 분노하여 폭풍을 퍼붓고 내가 진노하여 폭우를 내리고 분노하여 큰 우박덩어리로 무너뜨리리라

겔13:14 회칠한 담을 내가 이렇게 허물어서 땅에 넘어뜨리고 그 기초를 드러낼 것이라 담이 무너진 즉 너희가 그 가운데에서 망하리니 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라

겔13:15 이와 같이 내가 내 노를 담과 회칠한 자에게 모두 이루고 또 너희에게 말하기를 담도 없어지고 칠한 자들도 없어졌다 하리니

겔13:16 이들은 예루살렘에 대하여 예언하기를 평강이 없으나 평강의 묵시를 보았다고 하는 이스라엘의 선지자들이니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔13:17 너 인자야 너의 백성 중 자기 마음대로 예언하는 여자들에게 경고하며 예언하여

겔13:18 이르기를 주 여호와의 말씀에 사람의 영혼을 사냥하려고 손목마다 부적을 꿰어 매고 키가 큰 자나 작은 자의 머리를 위하여 수건을 만드는 여자들에게 화 있을진저 너희가 어찌하여 내 백성의 영혼은 사냥하면서 자기를 위하여는 영혼을 살리려 하느냐

겔13:19 너희가 두어 움큼 보리와 두어 조각 떡을 위하여 나를 내 백성 가운데에서 욕되게 하여 거짓말을 곧이 듣는 내 백성에게 너희가 거짓말을 지어내어 죽지 아니할 영혼을 죽이고 살지 못할 영혼을 살리는도다

겔13:20 그러므로 나 주 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 너희가 새를 사냥하듯 영혼들을 사냥하는 그 부적을 내가 너희 팔에서 떼어 버리고 너희가 새처럼 사냥한 그 영혼들을 놓아주며

겔13:21 또 너희 수건을 찢고 내 백성을 너희 손에서 건지고 다시는 너희 손에 사냥물이 되지 아니하게 하리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 너희가 알리라

겔13:22 내가 슬프게 하지 아니한 의인의 마음을 너희가 거짓말로 근심하게 하며 너희가 또 악인의 손을 굳게 하여 그 악한 길에서 돌이켜 떠나 삶을 얻지 못하게 하였은즉

겔13:23 너희가 다시는 허탄한 묵시를 보지 못하고 점복도 못할지라 내가 내 백성을 너희 손에서 건져내리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 너희가 알리라 하라

시편 52 장.

시52:1 포악한 자여 네가 어찌하여 악한 계획을 스스로 자랑하는가 하나님의 인자하심은 항상 있도다

시52:2 네 혀가 심한 악을 꾀하여 날카로운 삭도 같이 간사를 행하는도다

시52:3 네가 선보다 악을 사랑하며 의를 말함보다 거짓을 사랑하는도다 (셀라)

시52:4 간사한 혀여 너는 남을 해치는 모든 말을 좋아하는도다

시52:5 그런즉 하나님이 영원히 너를 멸하심이여 너를 붙잡아 네 장막에서 뽑아 내며 살아 있는 땅에서 네 뿌리를 빼시리로다 (셀라)

시52:6 의인이 보고 두려워하며 또 그를 비웃어 말하기를

시52:7 이 사람은 하나님을 자기 힘으로 삼지 아니하고 오직 자기 재물의 풍부함을 의지하며 자기의 악으로 스스로 든든하게 하던 자라 하리로다

시52:8 그러나 나는 하나님의 집에 있는 푸른 감람나무 같음이여 하나님의 인자하심을 영원히 의지하리로다

시52:9 주께서 이를 행하셨으므로 내가 영원히 주께 감사하고 주의 이름이 선하시므로 주의 성도 앞에서 내가 주의 이름을 사모하리이다

시편 53 장.

시53:1 어리석은 자는 그의 마음에 이르기를 하나님이 없다 하도다 그들은 부패하며 가증한 악을 행함이여 선을 행하는 자가 없도다

시53:2 하나님이 하늘에서 인생을 굽어 살피사 지각이 있는 자와 하나님을 찾는 자가 있는가 보려 하신즉

시53:3 각기 물러가 함께 더러운 자가 되고 선을 행하는 자 없으니 한 사람도 없도다

시53:4 죄악을 행하는 자들은 무지하냐 그들이 떡 먹듯이 내 백성을 먹으면서 하나님을 부르지 아니하는도다

시53:5 그들이 두려움이 없는 곳에서 크게 두려워하였으니 너를 대항하여 진친 그들의 뼈를 하나님이 흩으심이라 하나님이 그들을 버리셨으므로 네가 그들에게 수치를 당하게 하였도다

시53:6 시온에서 이스라엘을 구원하여 줄 자 누구인가 하나님이 자기 백성의 포로된 것을 돌이키실 때에 야곱이 즐거워하며 이스라엘이 기뻐하리로다

시편 54 장.

시54:1 하나님이여 주의 이름으로 나를 구원하시고 주의 힘으로 나를 변호하소서

시54:2 하나님이여 내 기도를 들으시며 내 입의 말에 귀를 기울이소서

시54:3 낯선 자들이 일어나 나를 치고 포악한 자들이 나의 생명을 수색하며 하나님을 자기 앞에 두지 아니하였음이니이다 (셀라)

시54:4 하나님은 나를 돕는 이시며 주께서는 내 생명을 붙들어 주시는 이시니이다

시54:5 주께서는 내 원수에게 악으로 갚으시리니 주의 성실하심으로 그들을 멸하소서

시54:6 내가 낙헌제로 주께 제사하리이다 여호와여 주의 이름에 감사하오리니 주의 이름이 선하심이니이다

시54:7 참으로 주께서는 모든 환난에서 나를 건지시고 내 원수가 보응 받는 것을 내 눈이 똑똑히 보게 하셨나이다

2 Samuel 4.

4:1 When Ish-Bosheth son of Saul heard that Abner had died in Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel became alarmed.

4:2 Now Saul's son had two men who were leaders of raiding bands. One was named Baanah and the other Recab; they were sons of Rimmon the Beerothite from the tribe of Benjamin--Beeroth is considered part of Benjamin,

4:3 because the people of Beeroth fled to Gittaim and have lived there as aliens to this day.

4:4 (Jonathan son of Saul had a son who was lame in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.)

4:5 Now Recab and Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, set out for the house of Ish-Bosheth, and they arrived there in the heat of the day while he was taking his noonday rest.

4:6 They went into the inner part of the house as if to get some wheat, and they stabbed him in the stomach. Then Recab and his brother Baanah slipped away.

4:7 They had gone into the house while he was lying on the bed in his bedroom. After they stabbed and killed him, they cut off his head. Taking it with them, they traveled all night by way of the Arabah.

4:8 They brought the head of Ish-Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to take your life. This day the LORD has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring."

4:9 David answered Recab and his brother Baanah, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of all trouble,

4:10 when a man told me, 'Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and put him to death in Ziklag. That was the reward I gave him for his news!

4:11 How much more--when wicked men have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed--should I not now demand his blood from your hand and rid the earth of you!"

4:12 So David gave an order to his men, and they killed them. They cut off their hands and feet and hung the bodies by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-Bosheth and buried it in Abner's tomb at Hebron.

2 Samuel 5.

5:1 All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "We are your own flesh and blood.

5:2 In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the LORD said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.'"

5:3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they anointed David king over Israel.

5:4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.

5:5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

5:6 The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, "You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off." They thought, "David cannot get in here."

5:7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion, the City of David.

5:8 On that day, David said, "Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those 'lame and blind' who are David's enemies." That is why they say, "The 'blind and lame' will not enter the palace."

5:9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the supporting terraces inward.

5:10 And he became more and more powerful, because the LORD God Almighty was with him.

5:11 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.

5:12 And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

5:13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.

5:14 These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

5:15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,

5:16 Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.

5:17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold.

5:18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;

5:19 so David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD answered him, "Go, for I will surely hand the Philistines over to you."

5:20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, "As waters break out, the LORD has broken out against my enemies before me." So that place was called Baal Perazim.

5:21 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.

5:22 Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;

5:23 so David inquired of the LORD, and he answered, "Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.

5:24 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army."

5:25 So David did as the LORD commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.

1 Corinthians 15.

15:1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.

15:2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

15:3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

15:4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

15:5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

15:6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

15:7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles,

15:8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

15:9 For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

15:11 Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

15:12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

15:13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.

15:14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

15:15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.

15:16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either.

15:17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

15:18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.

15:19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.

15:20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

15:21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

15:22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

15:23 But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

15:24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.

15:25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

15:26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

15:27 For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.

15:28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.

15:29 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?

15:30 And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour?

15:31 I die every day--I mean that, brothers--just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord.

15:32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."

15:33 Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."

15:34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God--I say this to your shame.

15:35 But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?"

15:36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.

15:37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.

15:38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.

15:39 All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.

15:40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.

15:41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;

15:43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

15:44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

15:45 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

15:46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

15:47 The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.

15:48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.

15:49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

15:51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--

15:52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

15:53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

15:54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Ezekiel 13.

13:1 The word of the LORD came to me:

13:2 "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 'Hear the word of the LORD!

13:3 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!

13:4 Your prophets, O Israel, are like jackals among ruins.

13:5 You have not gone up to the breaks in the wall to repair it for the house of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the LORD.

13:6 Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. They say, "The LORD declares," when the LORD has not sent them; yet they expect their words to be fulfilled.

13:7 Have you not seen false visions and uttered lying divinations when you say, "The LORD declares," though I have not spoken?

13:8 "'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because of your false words and lying visions, I am against you, declares the Sovereign LORD.

13:9 My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.

13:10 "'Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash,

13:11 therefore tell those who cover it with whitewash that it is going to fall. Rain will come in torrents, and I will send hailstones hurtling down, and violent winds will burst forth.

13:12 When the wall collapses, will people not ask you, "Where is the whitewash you covered it with?"

13:13 "'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my wrath I will unleash a violent wind, and in my anger hailstones and torrents of rain will fall with destructive fury.

13:14 I will tear down the wall you have covered with whitewash and will level it to the ground so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you will be destroyed in it; and you will know that I am the LORD.

13:15 So I will spend my wrath against the wall and against those who covered it with whitewash. I will say to you, "The wall is gone and so are those who whitewashed it,

13:16 those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw visions of peace for her when there was no peace, declares the Sovereign LORD."'

13:17 "Now, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people who prophesy out of their own imagination. Prophesy against them

13:18 and say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the women who sew magic charms on all their wrists and make veils of various lengths for their heads in order to ensnare people. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own?

13:19 You have profaned me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread. By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.

13:20 "'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds.

13:21 I will tear off your veils and save my people from your hands, and they will no longer fall prey to your power. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

13:22 Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives,

13:23 therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will save my people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the LORD.'"

Psalms 52.

52:1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?

52:2 Your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor, you who practice deceit.

52:3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth. Selah

52:4 You love every harmful word, O you deceitful tongue!

52:5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

52:6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at him, saying,

52:7 "Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!"

52:8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever.

52:9 I will praise you forever for what you have done; in your name I will hope, for your name is good. I will praise you in the presence of your saints.

Psalms 53.

53:1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

53:2 God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

53:3 Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

53:4 Will the evildoers never learn--those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on God?

53:5 There they were, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread. God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; you put them to shame, for God despised them.

53:6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Psalms 54.

54:1 Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might.

54:2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.

54:3 Strangers are attacking me; ruthless men seek my life--men without regard for God. Selah

54:4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

54:5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them.

54:6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good.

54:7 For he has delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
