열왕기상 2 장.

왕상2:1 다윗이 죽을 날이 임박하매 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 명령하여 이르되

왕상2:2 내가 이제 세상 모든 사람이 가는 길로 가게 되었노니 너는 힘써 대장부가 되고

왕상2:3 네 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지켜 그 길로 행하여 그 법률과 계명과 율례와 증거를 모세의 율법에 기록된 대로 지키라 그리하면 네가 무엇을 하든지 어디로 가든지 형통할지라

왕상2:4 여호와께서 내 일에 대하여 말씀하시기를 만일 네 자손들이 그들의 길을 삼가 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 진실히 내 앞에서 행하면 이스라엘 왕위에 오를 사람이 네게서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하신 말씀을 확실히 이루게 하시리라

왕상2:5 스루야의 아들 요압이 내게 행한 일 곧 이스라엘 군대의 두 사령관 넬의 아들 아브넬과 예델의 아들 아마사에게 행한 일을 네가 알거니와 그가 그들을 죽여 태평 시대에 전쟁의 피를 흘리고 전쟁의 피를 자기의 허리에 띤 띠와 발에 신은 신에 묻혔으니

왕상2:6 네 지혜대로 행하여 그의 백발이 평안히 스올에 내려가지 못하게 하라

왕상2:7 마땅히 길르앗 바르실래의 아들들에게 은총을 베풀어 그들이 네 상에서 먹는 자 중에 참여하게 하라 내가 네 형 압살롬의 낯을 피하여 도망할 때에 그들이 내게 나왔느니라

왕상2:8 바후림 베냐민 사람 게라의 아들 시므이가 너와 함께 있나니 그는 내가 마하나임으로 갈 때에 악독한 말로 나를 저주하였느니라 그러나 그가 요단에 내려와서 나를 영접하므로 내가 여호와를 두고 맹세하여 이르기를 내가 칼로 너를 죽이지 아니하리라 하였노라

왕상2:9 그러나 그를 무죄한 자로 여기지 말지어다 너는 지혜 있는 사람이므로 그에게 행할 일을 알지니 그의 백발이 피 가운데 스올에 내려가게 하라

왕상2:10 다윗이 그의 조상들과 함께 누워 다윗 성에 장사되니

왕상2:11 다윗이 이스라엘 왕이 된 지 사십 년이라 헤브론에서 칠 년 동안 다스렸고 예루살렘에서 삼십삼 년 동안 다스렸더라

왕상2:12 솔로몬이 그의 아버지 다윗의 왕위에 앉으니 그의 나라가 심히 견고하니라

왕상2:13 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바에게 나아온지라 밧세바가 이르되 네가 화평한 목적으로 왔느냐 대답하되 화평한 목적이니이다

왕상2:14 또 이르되 내가 말씀드릴 일이 있나이다 밧세바가 이르되 말하라

왕상2:15 그가 이르되 당신도 아시는 바이거니와 이 왕위는 내 것이었고 온 이스라엘은 다 얼굴을 내게로 향하여 왕으로 삼으려 하였는데 그 왕권이 돌아가 내 아우의 것이 되었음은 여호와께로 말미암음이니이다

왕상2:16 이제 내가 한 가지 소원을 당신에게 구하오니 내 청을 거절하지 마옵소서 밧세바가 이르되 말하라

왕상2:17 그가 이르되 청하건대 솔로몬 왕에게 말씀하여 그가 수넴 여자 아비삭을 내게 주어 아내를 삼게 하소서 왕이 당신의 청을 거절하지 아니하리이다

왕상2:18 밧세바가 이르되 좋다 내가 너를 위하여 왕께 말하리라

왕상2:19 밧세바가 이에 아도니야를 위하여 말하려고 솔로몬 왕에게 이르니 왕이 일어나 영접하여 절한 후에 다시 왕좌에 앉고 그의 어머니를 위하여 자리를 베푸니 그가 그의 오른쪽에 앉는 지라

왕상2:20 밧세바가 이르되 내가 한 가지 작은 일로 왕께 구하오니 내 청을 거절하지 마소서 왕이 대답하되 내 어머니여 구하소서 내가 어머니의 청을 거절하지 아니하리이다

왕상2:21 이르되 청하건대 수넴 여자 아비삭을 아도니야에게 주어 아내로 삼게 하소서

왕상2:22 솔로몬 왕이 그의 어머니에게 대답하여 이르되 어찌하여 아도니야를 위하여 수넴 여자 아비삭을 구하시나이까 그는 나의 형이오니 그를 위하여 왕권도 구하옵소서 그뿐 아니라 제사장 아비아달과 스루야의 아들 요압을 위해서도 구하옵소서 하고

왕상2:23 여호와를 두고 맹세하여 이르되 아도니야가 이런 말을 하였은즉 그의 생명을 잃지 아니하면 하나님은 내게 벌 위에 벌을 내리심이 마땅하니이다

왕상2:24 그러므로 이제 나를 세워 내 아버지 다윗의 왕위에 오르게 하시고 허락하신 말씀대로 나를 위하여 집을 세우신 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 아도니야는 오늘 죽임을 당하리라 하고

왕상2:25 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내매 그가 아도니야를 쳐서 죽였더라

왕상2:26 왕이 제사장 아비아달에게 이르되 네 고향 아나돗으로 가라 너는 마땅히 죽을 자이로되 네가 내 아버지 다윗 앞에서 주 여호와의 궤를 메었고 또 내 아버지가 모든 환난을 받을 때에 너도 환난을 받았은즉 내가 오늘 너를 죽이지 아니하노라 하고

왕상2:27 아비아달을 쫓아내어 여호와의 제사장 직분을 파면하니 여호와께서 실로에서 엘리의 집에 대하여 하신 말씀을 응하게 함이더라

왕상2:28 그 소문이 요압에게 들리매 그가 여호와의 장막으로 도망하여 제단 뿔을 잡으니 이는 그가 다윗을 떠나 압살롬을 따르지 아니하였으나 아도니야를 따랐음이더라

왕상2:29 어떤 사람이 솔로몬 왕에게 아뢰되 요압이 여호와의 장막으로 도망하여 제단 곁에 있나이다 솔로몬이 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내며 이르되 너는 가서 그를 치라

왕상2:30 브나야가 여호와의 장막에 이르러 그에게 이르되 왕께서 나오라 하시느니라 그가 대답하되 아니라 내가 여기서 죽겠노라 브나야가 돌아가서 왕께 아뢰어 이르되 요압이 이리이리 내게 대답하더이다

왕상2:31 왕이 이르되 그의 말과 같이 하여 그를 죽여 묻으라 요압이 까닭 없이 흘린 피를 나와 내 아버지의 집에서 네가 제하리라

왕상2:32 여호와께서 요압의 피를 그의 머리로 돌려보내실 것은 그가 자기보다 의롭고 선한 두 사람을 쳤음이니 곧 이스라엘 군사령관 넬의 아들 아브넬과 유다 군사령관 예델의 아들 아마사를 칼로 죽였음이라 이 일을 내 아버지 다윗은 알지 못하셨나니

왕상2:33 그들의 피는 영영히 요압의 머리와 그의 자손의 머리로 돌아갈지라도 다윗과 그의 자손과 그의 집과 그의 왕위에는 여호와께로 말미암는 평강이 영원히 있으리라

왕상2:34 여호야다의 아들 브나야가 곧 올라가서 그를 쳐죽이매 그가 광야에 있는 자기의 집에 매장되니라

왕상2:35 왕이 이에 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 요압을 대신하여 군사령관으로 삼고 또 제사장 사독으로 아비아달을 대신하게 하니라

왕상2:36 왕이 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러서 이르되 너는 예루살렘에서 너를 위하여 집을 짓고 거기서 살고 어디든지 나가지 말라

왕상2:37 너는 분명히 알라 네가 나가서 기드론 시내를 건너는 날에는 반드시 죽임을 당하리니 네 피가 네 머리로 돌아가리라

왕상2:38 시므이가 왕께 대답하되 이 말씀이 좋사오니 내 주 왕의 말씀대로 종이 그리 하겠나이다 하고 이에 날이 오래도록 예루살렘에 머무니라

왕상2:39 삼 년 후에 시므이의 두 종이 가드 왕 마아가의 아들 아기스에게로 도망하여 간지라 어떤 사람이 시므이에게 말하여 이르되 당신의 종이 가드에 있나이다

왕상2:40 시므이가 그 종을 찾으려고 일어나 그의 나귀에 안장을 지우고 가드로 가서 아기스에게 나아가 그의 종을 가드에서 데려왔더니

왕상2:41 시므이가 예루살렘에서부터 가드에 갔다가 돌아온 일을 어떤 사람이 솔로몬에게 말한지라

왕상2:42 왕이 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러서 이르되 내가 너에게 여호와를 두고 맹세하게 하고 경고하여 이르기를 너는 분명히 알라 네가 밖으로 나가서 어디든지 가는 날에는 죽임을 당하리라 하지 아니하였느냐 너도 내게 말하기를 내가 들은 말씀이 좋으니이다 하였거늘

왕상2:43 네가 어찌하여 여호와를 두고 한 맹세와 내가 네게 이른 명령을 지키지 아니하였느냐

왕상2:44 왕이 또 시므이에게 이르되 네가 네 마음으로 아는 모든 악 곧 내 아버지에게 행한 바를 네가 스스로 아나니 여호와께서 네 악을 네 머리로 돌려보내시리라

왕상2:45 그러나 솔로몬 왕은 복을 받고 다윗의 왕위는 영원히 여호와 앞에서 견고히 서리라 하고

왕상2:46 여호야다의 아들 브나야에게 명령하매 그가 나가서 시므이를 치니 그가 죽은지라 이에 나라가 솔로몬의 손에 견고하여지니라

갈라디아서 6 장.

갈6:1 형제들아 사람이 만일 무슨 범죄한 일이 드러나거든 신령한 너희는 온유한 심령으로 그러한 자를 바로잡고 너 자신을 살펴보아 너도 시험을 받을까 두려워하라

갈6:2 너희가 짐을 서로 지라 그리하여 그리스도의 법을 성취하라

갈6:3 만일 누가 아무 것도 되지 못하고 된 줄로 생각하면 스스로 속임이라

갈6:4 각각 자기의 일을 살피라 그리하면 자랑할 것이 자기에게는 있어도 남에게는 있지 아니하리니

갈6:5 각각 자기의 짐을 질 것이라

갈6:6 가르침을 받는 자는 말씀을 가르치는 자와 모든 좋은 것을 함께 하라

갈6:7 스스로 속이지 말라 하나님은 업신여김을 받지 아니하시나니 사람이 무엇으로 심든지 그대로 거두리라

갈6:8 자기의 육체를 위하여 심는 자는 육체로부터 썩어질 것을 거두고 성령을 위하여 심는 자는 성령으로부터 영생을 거두리라

갈6:9 우리가 선을 행하되 낙심하지 말지니 포기하지 아니하면 때가 이르매 거두리라

갈6:10 그러므로 우리는 기회 있는 대로 모든 이에게 착한 일을 하되 더욱 믿음의 가정들에게 할지니라

갈6:11 내 손으로 너희에게 이렇게 큰 글자로 쓴 것을 보라

갈6:12 무릇 육체의 모양을 내려 하는 자들이 억지로 너희에게 할례를 받게 함은 그들이 그리스도의 십자가로 말미암아 박해를 면하려 함 뿐이라

갈6:13 할례 받은 그들이라도 스스로 율법은 지키지 아니하고 너희에게 할례를 받게 하려 하는 것은 그들이 너희의 육체로 자랑하려 함이라

갈6:14 그러나 내게는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 십자가 외에 결코 자랑할 것이 없으니 그리스도로 말미암아 세상이 나를 대하여 십자가에 못 박히고 내가 또한 세상을 대하여 그러하니라

갈6:15 할례나 무할례가 아무 것도 아니로되 오직 새로 지으심을 받는 것만이 중요하니라

갈6:16 무릇 이 규례를 행하는 자에게와 하나님의 이스라엘에게 평강과 긍휼이 있을지어다

갈6:17 이후로는 누구든지 나를 괴롭게 하지 말라 내가 내 몸에 예수의 흔적을 지니고 있노라

갈6:18 형제들아 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희 심령에 있을지어다 아멘

에스겔 33 장.

겔33:1 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔33:2 인자야 너는 네 민족에게 말하여 이르라 가령 내가 칼을 한 땅에 임하게 한다 하자 그 땅 백성이 자기들 가운데의 하나를 택하여 파수꾼을 삼은

겔33:3 그 사람이 그 땅에 칼이 임함을 보고 나팔을 불어 백성에게 경고하되

겔33:4 그들이 나팔 소리를 듣고도 정신차리지 아니하므로 그 임하는 칼에 제거함을 당하면 그 피가 자기의 머리로 돌아갈 것이라

겔33:5 그가 경고를 받았던들 자기 생명을 보전하였을 것이나 나팔 소리를 듣고도 경고를 받지 아니하였으니 그 피가 자기에게로 돌아가리라

겔33:6 그러나 칼이 임함을 파수꾼이 보고도 나팔을 불지 아니하여 백성에게 경고하지 아니하므로 그 중의 한 사람이 그 임하는 칼에 제거 당하면 그는 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 제거되려니와 그 죄는 내가 파수꾼의 손에서 찾으리라

겔33:7 인자야 내가 너를 이스라엘 족속의 파수꾼으로 삼음이 이와 같으니라 그런즉 너는 내 입의 말을 듣고 나를 대신하여 그들에게 경고할지어다

겔33:8 가령 내가 악인에게 이르기를 악인아 너는 반드시 죽으리라 하였다 하자 네가 그 악인에게 말로 경고하여 그의 길에서 떠나게 하지 아니하면 그 악인은 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 죽으려니와 내가 그의 피를 네 손에서 찾으리라

겔33:9 그러나 너는 악인에게 경고하여 돌이켜 그의 길에서 떠나라고 하되 그가 돌이켜 그의 길에서 떠나지 아니하면 그는 자기 죄악으로 말미암아 죽으려니와 너는 네 생명을 보전하리라

겔33:10 그런즉 인자야 너는 이스라엘 족속에게 이르기를 너희가 말하여 이르되 우리의 허물과 죄가 이미 우리에게 있어 우리로 그 가운데에서 쇠퇴하게 하니 어찌 능히 살리요 하라

겔33:11 너는 그들에게 말하라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 나는 악인이 죽는 것을 기뻐하지 아니하고 악인이 그의 길에서 돌이켜 떠나 사는 것을 기뻐하노라 이스라엘 족속아 돌이키고 돌이키라 너희 악한 길에서 떠나라 어찌 죽고자 하느냐 하셨다 하라

겔33:12 인자야 너는 네 민족에게 이르기를 의인이 범죄하는 날에는 그 공의가 구원하지 못할 것이요 악인이 돌이켜 그 악에서 떠나는 날에는 그 악이 그를 엎드러뜨리지 못할 것인즉 의인이 범죄하는 날에는 그 의로 말미암아 살지 못하리라

겔33:13 가령 내가 의인에게 말하기를 너는 살리라 하였다 하자 그가 그 공의를 스스로 믿고 죄악을 행하면 그 모든 의로운 행위가 하나도 기억되지 아니하리니 그가 그 지은 죄악으로 말미암아 곧 그 안에서 죽으리라

겔33:14 가령 내가 악인에게 말하기를 너는 죽으리라 하였다 하자 그가 돌이켜 자기의 죄에서 떠나서 정의와 공의로 행하여

겔33:15 저당물을 도로 주며 강탈한 물건을 돌려보내고 생명의 율례를 지켜 행하여 죄악을 범하지 아니하면 그가 반드시 살고 죽지 아니할지라

겔33:16 그가 본래 범한 모든 죄가 기억되지 아니하리니 그가 반드시 살리라 이는 정의와 공의를 행하였음이라 하라

겔33:17 그래도 네 민족은 말하기를 주의 길이 바르지 아니하다 하는도다 그러나 실상은 그들의 길이 바르지 아니하니라

겔33:18 만일 의인이 돌이켜 그 공의에서 떠나 죄악을 범하면 그가 그 가운데에서 죽을 것이고

겔33:19 만일 악인이 돌이켜 그 악에서 떠나 정의와 공의대로 행하면 그가 그로 말미암아 살리라

겔33:20 그러나 너희가 이르기를 주의 길이 바르지 아니하다 하는도다 이스라엘 족속아 나는 너희가 각기 행한 대로 심판하리라 하시니라

겔33:21 우리가 사로잡힌 지 열두째 해 열째 달 다섯째 날에 예루살렘에서부터 도망하여 온 자가 내게 나아와 말하기를 그 성이 함락되었다 하였는데

겔33:22 그 도망한 자가 내게 나아오기 전날 저녁에 여호와의 손이 내게 임하여 내 입을 여시더니 다음 아침 그 사람이 내게 나아올 그 때에 내 입이 열리기로 내가 다시는 잠잠하지 아니하였노라

겔33:23 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔33:24 인자야 이 이스라엘의 이 황폐한 땅에 거주하는 자들이 말하여 이르기를 아브라함은 오직 한 사람이라도 이 땅을 기업으로 얻었나니 우리가 많은즉 더욱 이 땅을 우리에게 기업으로 주신 것이 되느니라 하는도다

겔33:25 그러므로 너는 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 피째 먹으며 너희 우상들에게 눈을 들며 피를 흘리니 그 땅이 너희의 기업이 될까보냐

겔33:26 너희가 칼을 믿어 가증한 일을 행하며 각기 이웃의 아내를 더럽히니 그 땅이 너희의 기업이 될까보냐 하고

겔33:27 너는 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 황무지에 있는 자는 칼에 엎드러뜨리고 들에 있는 자는 들짐승에게 넘겨 먹히게 하고 산성과 굴에 있는 자는 전염병에 죽게 하리라

겔33:28 내가 그 땅이 황무지와 공포의 대상이 되게 하고 그 권능의 교만을 그치게 하리니 이스라엘의 산들이 황폐하여 지나갈 사람이 없으리라

겔33:29 내가 그들이 행한 모든 가증한 일로 말미암아 그 땅을 황무지와 공포의 대상이 되게 하면 그 때에 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라 하라

겔33:30 인자야 네 민족이 담 곁에서와 집 문에서 너에 대하여 말하며 각각 그 형제와 더불어 말하여 이르기를 자, 가서 여호와께로부터 무슨 말씀이 나오는가 들어보자 하고

겔33:31 백성이 모이는 것 같이 네게 나아오며 내 백성처럼 네 앞에 앉아서 네 말을 들으나 그대로 행하지 아니하니 이는 그 입으로는 사랑을 나타내어도 마음으로 이익을 따름이라

겔33:32 그들은 네가 고운 음성으로 사랑의 노래를 하며 음악을 잘하는 자 같이 여겼나니 네 말을 듣고도 행하지 아니하거니와

겔33:33 그 말이 응하리니 응할 때에는 그들이 한 선지자가 자기 가운데에 있었음을 알리라

시편 81 장.

시81:1 우리의 능력이 되시는 하나님을 향하여 기쁘게 노래하며 야곱의 하나님을 향하여 즐거이 소리칠 지어다

시81:2 시를 읊으며 소고를 치고 아름다운 수금에 비파를 아우를지어다

시81:3 초하루와 보름과 우리의 명절에 나팔을 불지어다

시81:4 이는 이스라엘의 율례요 야곱의 하나님의 규례로다

시81:5 하나님이 애굽 땅을 치러 나아가시던 때에 요셉의 족속 중에 이를 증거로 세우셨도다 거기서 내가 알지 못하던 말씀을 들었나니

시81:6 이르시되 내가 그의 어깨에서 짐을 벗기고 그의 손에서 광주리를 놓게 하였도다

시81:7 네가 고난 중에 부르짖으매 내가 너를 건졌고 우렛소리의 은밀한 곳에서 네게 응답하며 므리바 물가에서 너를 시험하였도다 (셀라)

시81:8 내 백성이여 들으라 내가 네게 증언하리라 이스라엘이여 내게 듣기를 원하노라

시81:9 너희 중에 다른 신을 두지 말며 이방 신에게 절하지 말지어다

시81:10 나는 너를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여낸 여호와 네 하나님이니 네 입을 크게 열라 내가 채우리라 하였으나

시81:11 내 백성이 내 소리를 듣지 아니하며 이스라엘이 나를 원하지 아니하였도다

시81:12 그러므로 내가 그의 마음을 완악한 대로 버려 두어 그의 임의대로 행하게 하였도다

시81:13 내 백성아 내 말을 들으라 이스라엘아 내 도를 따르라

시81:14 그리하면 내가 속히 그들의 원수를 누르고 내 손을 돌려 그들의 대적들을 치리니

시81:15 여호와를 미워하는 자는 그에게 복종하는 체 할지라도 그들의 시대는 영원히 계속되리라

시81:16 또 내가 기름진 밀을 그들에게 먹이며 반석에서 나오는 꿀로 너를 만족하게 하리라 하셨도다

시편 82 장.

시82:1 하나님은 신들의 모임 가운데에 서시며 하나님은 그들 가운데에서 재판하시느니라

시82:2 너희가 불공평한 판단을 하며 악인의 낯 보기를 언제까지 하려느냐 (셀라)

시82:3 가난한 자와 고아를 위하여 판단하며 곤란한 자와 빈궁한 자에게 공의를 베풀지며

시82:4 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자를 구원하여 악인들의 손에서 건질지니라 하시는도다

시82:5 그들은 알지도 못하고 깨닫지도 못하여 흑암 중에 왕래하니 땅의 모든 터가 흔들리도다

시82:6 내가 말하기를 너희는 신들이며 다 지존자의 아들들이라 하였으나

시82:7 그러나 너희는 사람처럼 죽으며 고관의 하나 같이 넘어지리로다

시82:8 하나님이여 일어나사 세상을 심판하소서 모든 나라가 주의 소유이기 때문이니이다

1 Kings 2.

2:1 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

2:2 "I am about to go the way of all the earth," he said. "So be strong, show yourself a man,

2:3 and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in his ways, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go,

2:4 and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'

2:5 "Now you yourself know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me--what he did to the two commanders of Israel's armies, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether. He killed them, shedding their blood in peacetime as if in battle, and with that blood stained the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet.

2:6 Deal with him according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

2:7 "But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and let them be among those who eat at your table. They stood by me when I fled from your brother Absalom.

2:8 "And remember, you have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, who called down bitter curses on me the day I went to Mahanaim. When he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the LORD: 'I will not put you to death by the sword.'

2:9 But now, do not consider him innocent. You are a man of wisdom; you will know what to do to him. Bring his gray head down to the grave in blood."

2:10 Then David rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David.

2:11 He had reigned forty years over Israel--seven years in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.

2:12 So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David, and his rule was firmly established.

2:13 Now Adonijah, the son of Haggith, went to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother. Bathsheba asked him, "Do you come peacefully?" He answered, "Yes, peacefully."

2:14 Then he added, "I have something to say to you." "You may say it," she replied.

2:15 "As you know," he said, "the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the LORD.

2:16 Now I have one request to make of you. Do not refuse me." "You may make it," she said.

2:17 So he continued, "Please ask King Solomon--he will not refuse you--to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife."

2:18 "Very well," Bathsheba replied, "I will speak to the king for you."

2:19 When Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, the king stood up to meet her, bowed down to her and sat down on his throne. He had a throne brought for the king's mother, and she sat down at his right hand.

2:20 "I have one small request to make of you," she said. "Do not refuse me." The king replied, "Make it, my mother; I will not refuse you."

2:21 So she said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah."

2:22 King Solomon answered his mother, "Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him--after all, he is my older brother--yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!"

2:23 Then King Solomon swore by the LORD: "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if Adonijah does not pay with his life for this request!

2:24 And now, as surely as the LORD lives--he who has established me securely on the throne of my father David and has founded a dynasty for me as he promised--Adonijah shall be put to death today!"

2:25 So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.

2:26 To Abiathar the priest the king said, "Go back to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign LORD before my father David and shared all my father's hardships."

2:27 So Solomon removed Abiathar from the priesthood of the LORD, fulfilling the word the LORD had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli.

2:28 When the news reached Joab, who had conspired with Adonijah though not with Absalom, he fled to the tent of the LORD and took hold of the horns of the altar.

2:29 King Solomon was told that Joab had fled to the tent of the LORD and was beside the altar. Then Solomon ordered Benaiah son of Jehoiada, "Go, strike him down!"

2:30 So Benaiah entered the tent of the LORD and said to Joab, "The king says, 'Come out!'" But he answered, "No, I will die here." Benaiah reported to the king, "This is how Joab answered me."

2:31 Then the king commanded Benaiah, "Do as he says. Strike him down and bury him, and so clear me and my father's house of the guilt of the innocent blood that Joab shed.

2:32 The LORD will repay him for the blood he shed, because without the knowledge of my father David he attacked two men and killed them with the sword. Both of them--Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel's army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah's army--were better men and more upright than he.

2:33 May the guilt of their blood rest on the head of Joab and his descendants forever. But on David and his descendants, his house and his throne, may there be the LORD'S peace forever."

2:34 So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and struck down Joab and killed him, and he was buried on his own land in the desert.

2:35 The king put Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab's position and replaced Abiathar with Zadok the priest.

2:36 Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him, "Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else.

2:37 The day you leave and cross the Kidron Valley, you can be sure you will die; your blood will be on your own head."

2:38 Shimei answered the king, "What you say is good. Your servant will do as my lord the king has said." And Shimei stayed in Jerusalem for a long time.

2:39 But three years later, two of Shimei's slaves ran off to Achish son of Maacah, king of Gath, and Shimei was told, "Your slaves are in Gath."

2:40 At this, he saddled his donkey and went to Achish at Gath in search of his slaves. So Shimei went away and brought the slaves back from Gath.

2:41 When Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned,

2:42 the king summoned Shimei and said to him, "Did I not make you swear by the LORD and warn you, 'On the day you leave to go anywhere else, you can be sure you will die'? At that time you said to me, 'What you say is good. I will obey.'

2:43 Why then did you not keep your oath to the LORD and obey the command I gave you?"

2:44 The king also said to Shimei, "You know in your heart all the wrong you did to my father David. Now the LORD will repay you for your wrongdoing.

2:45 But King Solomon will be blessed, and David's throne will remain secure before the LORD forever."

2:46 Then the king gave the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down and killed him. The kingdom was now firmly established in Solomon's hands.

Galatians 6.

6:1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

6:2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

6:3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

6:4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,

6:5 for each one should carry his own load.

6:6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.

6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

6:8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

6:11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!

6:12 Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

6:13 Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh.

6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

6:15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation.

6:16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God.

6:17 Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.

Ezekiel 33.

33:1 The word of the LORD came to me:

33:2 "Son of man, speak to your countrymen and say to them: 'When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,

33:3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people,

33:4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head.

33:5 Since he heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning, his blood will be on his own head. If he had taken warning, he would have saved himself.

33:6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.'

33:7 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.

33:8 When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood.

33:9 But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself.

33:10 "Son of man, say to the house of Israel, 'This is what you are saying: "Our offenses ane sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them. How then can we live?"'

33:11 Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rathar that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'

33:12 "Therefore, son of man, say to your countrymen, 'The righteousness of the righteous man will not save him when he disobeys, and the wickedness of the wicked man will not cause him to fall when he turns from it. The righteous man, if he sins, will not be allowed to live because of his former righteousness.'

33:13 If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but then he trusts in his righteousness and does evil, none of the righteous things he has done will be remembered; he will die for the evil he has done.

33:14 And if I say to the wicked man, 'You will surely die,' but he then turns away from his sin and does what is just and right--

33:15 if he gives back what he took in pledge for a loan, returns what he has stolen, follows the decrees that give life, and does no evil, he will surely live; he will not die.

33:16 None of the sins he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he will surely live.

33:17 "Yet your countrymen say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But it is their way that is not just.

33:18 If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, he will die for it.

33:19 And if a wicked man turns away from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live by doing so.

33:20 Yet, O house of Israel, you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But I will judge each of you according to his own ways."

33:21 In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month on the fifth day, a man who had escaped from Jerusalem came to me and said, "The city has fallen!"

33:22 Now the evening before the man arrived, the hand of the LORD was upon me, and he opened my mouth before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened and I was no longer silent.

33:23 Then the word of the LORD came to me:

33:24 "Son of man, the people living in those ruins in the land of Israel are saying, 'Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as our possession.'

33:25 Therefore say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Since you eat meat with the blood still in it and look to your idols and shed blood, should you then possess the land?

33:26 You rely on your sword, you do detestable things, and each of you defiles his neighbor's wife. Should you then possess the land?'

33:27 "Say this to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: As surely as I live, those who are left in the ruins will fall by the sword, those out in the country I will give to the wild animals to be devoured, and those in strongholds and caves will die of a plague.

33:28 I will make the land a desolate waste, and her proud strength will come to an end, and the mountains of Israel will become desolate so that no one will cross them.

33:29 Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a desolate waste because of all the detestable things they have done.'

33:30 "As for you, son of man, your countrymen are talking together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, saying to each other, 'Come and hear the message that has come from the LORD.'

33:31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.

33:32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.

33:33 "When all this comes true--and it surely will--then they will know that a prophet has been among them."

Psalms 81.

81:1 Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!

81:2 Begin the music, strike the tambourine, play the melodious harp and lyre.

81:3 Sound the ram's horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast;

81:4 this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

81:5 He established it as a statute for Joseph when he went out against Egypt, where we heard a language we did not understand.

81:6 He says, "I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.

81:7 In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

81:8 "Hear, O my people, and I will warn you--if you would but listen to me, O Israel!

81:9 You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not bow down to an alien god.

81:10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

81:11 "But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.

81:12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

81:13 "If my people would but listen to me, if Israel would follow my ways,

81:14 how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!

81:15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.

81:16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

Psalms 82.

82:1 God presides in the great assembly; he gives judgment among the "gods":

82:2 "How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Selah

82:3 Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

82:4 Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

82:5 "They know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

82:6 "I said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.'

82:7 But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler."

82:8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.
