열왕기상 22 장.

왕상22:1 아람과 이스라엘 사이에 전쟁이 없이 삼 년을 지냈더라

왕상22:2 셋째 해에 유다의 여호사밧 왕이 이스라엘의 왕에게 내려가매

왕상22:3 이스라엘의 왕이 그의 신하들에게 이르되 길르앗 라못은 본래 우리의 것인 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 우리가 어찌 아람의 왕의 손에서 도로 찾지 아니하고 잠잠히 있으리요 하고

왕상22:4 여호사밧에게 이르되 당신은 나와 함께 길르앗 라못으로 가서 싸우시겠느냐 여호사밧이 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되 나는 당신과 같고 내 백성은 당신의 백성과 같고 내 말들도 당신의 말들과 같으니이다

왕상22:5 여호사밧이 또 이스라엘의 왕에게 이르되 청하건대 먼저 여호와의 말씀이 어떠하신지 물어 보소서

왕상22:6 이스라엘의 왕이 이에 선지자 사백 명쯤 모으고 그들에게 이르되 내가 길르앗 라못에 가서 싸우랴 말랴 그들이 이르되 올라가소서 주께서 그 성읍을 왕의 손에 넘기시리이다

왕상22:7 여호사밧이 이르되 이 외에 우리가 물을 만한 여호와의 선지자가 여기 있지 아니하니이까

왕상22:8 이스라엘의 왕이 여호사밧 왕에게 이르되 아직도 이믈라의 아들 미가야 한 사람이 있으니 그로 말미암아 여호와께 물을 수 있으나 그는 내게 대하여 길한 일은 예언하지 아니하고 흉한 일만 예언하기로 내가 그을 미워하나이다 여호사밧이 이르되 왕은 그런 말씀을 마소서

왕상22:9 이스라엘의 왕이 한 내시를 불러 이르되 이믈라의 아들 미가야를 속히 오게 하라 하니라

왕상22:10 이스라엘의 왕과 유다의 여호사밧 왕이 왕복을 입고 사마리아 성문 어귀 광장에서 각기 왕좌에 앉아 있고 모든 선지자가 그들의 앞에서 예언을 하고 있는데

왕상22:11 그나아나의 아들 시드기야는 자기를 위하여 철로 뿔들을 만들어 가지고 말하되 여호와의 말씀이 왕이 이것들로 아람 사람을 찔러 진멸하리라 하셨다 하고

왕상22:12 모든 선지자도 그와 같이 예언하여 이르기를 길르앗 라못으로 올라가 승리를 얻으소서 여호와께서 그 성읍을 왕의 손에 넘기시리이다 하더라

왕상22:13 미가야를 부르러 간 사신이 일러 이르되 선지자들의 말이 하나 같이 왕에게 길하게 하니 청하건대 당신의 말도 그들 중 한 사람의 말처럼 길하게 하소서

왕상22:14 미가야가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 여호와께서 내게 말씀하시는 것 곧 그것을 내가 말하리라 하고

왕상22:15 이에 왕에게 이르니 왕이 그에게 이르되 미가야야 우리가 길르앗 라못으로 싸우러 가랴 또는 말랴 그가 왕께 이르되 올라가서 승리를 얻으소서 여호와께서 그 성읍을 왕의 손에 넘기시리이다

왕상22:16 왕이 그에게 이르되 내가 몇 번이나 네게 맹세하게 하여야 네가 여호와의 이름으로 진실한 것으로만 내게 말하겠느냐

왕상22:17 그가 이르되 내가 보니 온 이스라엘이 목자 없는 양 같이 산에 흩어졌는데 여호와의 말씀이 이 무리에게 주인이 없으니 각각 평안히 자기의 집으로 돌아갈 것이니라 하셨나이다

왕상22:18 이스라엘의 왕이 여호사밧 왕에게 이르되 저 사람이 내게 대하여 길한 것을 예언하지 아니하고 흉한 것을 예언하겠다고 당신에게 말씀하지 아니하였나이까

왕상22:19 미가야가 이르되 그런즉 왕은 여호와의 말씀을 들으소서 내가 보니 여호와께서 그의 보좌에 앉으셨고 하늘의 만군이 그의 좌우편에 모시고 서 있는데

왕상22:20 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 누가 아합을 꾀어 그를 길르앗 라못에 올라가서 죽게 할꼬 하시니 하나는 이렇게 하겠다 하고 또 하나는 저렇게 하겠다 하였는데

왕상22:21 한 영이 나아와 여호와 앞에 서서 말하되 내가 그를 꾀겠나이다

왕상22:22 여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 어떻게 하겠느냐 이르되 내가 나가서 거짓말하는 영이 되어 그의 모든 선지자들의 입에 있겠나이다 여호와께서 이르시되 너는 꾀겠고 또 이루리라 나가서 그리하라 하셨은즉

왕상22:23 이제 여호와께서 거짓말하는 영을 왕의 이 모든 선지자의 입에 넣으셨고 또 여호와께서 왕에 대하여 화를 말씀하셨나이다

왕상22:24 그나아나의 아들 시드기야가 가까이 와서 미가야의 뺨을 치며 이르되 여호와의 영이 나를 떠나 어디로 가서 네게 말씀하더냐

왕상22:25 미가야가 이르되 네가 골방에 들어가서 숨는 그 날에 보리라

왕상22:26 이스라엘의 왕이 이르되 미가야를 잡아 성주 아몬과 왕자 요아스에게로 끌고 돌아가서

왕상22:27 말하기를 왕의 말씀이 이 놈을 옥에 가두고 내가 평안히 돌아올 때까지 고생의 떡과 고생의 물을 먹이라 하였다 하라

왕상22:28 미가야가 이르되 왕이 참으로 평안히 돌아오시게 될진대 여호와께서 나를 통하여 말씀하지 아니하셨으리이다 또 이르되 너희 백성들아 다 들을지어다 하니라

왕상22:29 이스라엘의 왕과 유다의 여호사밧 왕이 길르앗 라못으로 올라가니라

왕상22:30 이스라엘의 왕이 여호사밧에게 이르되 나는 변장하고 전쟁터로 들어가려 하노니 당신은 왕복을 입으소서 하고 이스라엘의 왕이 변장하고 전쟁터로 들어가니라

왕상22:31 아람 왕이 그의 병거의 지휘관 삼십이 명에게 명령하여 이르기를 너희는 작은 자나 큰 자와 더불어 싸우지 말고 오직 이스라엘 왕과 싸우라 한지라

왕상22:32 병거의 지휘관들이 여호사밧을 보고 그들이 이르되 이가 틀림없이 이스라엘의 왕이라 하고 돌이켜 그와 싸우려 한즉 여호사밧이 소리를 지르는지라

왕상22:33 병거의 지휘관들이 그가 이스라엘의 왕이 아님을 보고 쫓기를 그치고 돌이켰더라

왕상22:34 한 사람이 무심코 활을 당겨 이스라엘 왕의 갑옷 솔기를 맞힌지라 왕이 그 병거 모는 자에게 이르되 내가 부상하였으니 네 손을 돌려 내가 전쟁터에서 나가게 하라 하였으나

왕상22:35 이 날에 전쟁이 맹렬하였으므로 왕이 병거 가운데에 붙들려 서서 아람 사람을 막다가 저녁에 이르러 죽었는데 상처의 피가 흘러 병거 바닥에 고였더라

왕상22:36 해가 질 녁에 진중에서 외치는 소리가 있어 이르되 각기 성읍으로 또는 각기 본향으로 가라 하더라

왕상22:37 왕이 이미 죽으매 그의 시체를 메어 사마리아에 이르러 왕을 사마리아에 장사하니라

왕상22:38 그 병거를 사마리아 못에서 씻으매 개들이 그의 피를 핥았으니 여호와께서 하신 말씀과 같이 되었더라 거기는 창기들이 목욕하는 곳이었더라

왕상22:39 아합의 남은 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그가 건축한 상아궁과 그가 건축한 모든 성읍은 이스라엘 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

왕상22:40 아합이 그의 조상들과 함께 자매 그의 아들 아하시야가 대신하여 왕이 되니라

왕상22:41 이스라엘의 아합 왕 제사년에 아사의 아들 여호사밧이 유다의 왕이 되니

왕상22:42 여호사밧이 왕이 될 때에 나이가 삼십오 세라 예루살렘에서 이십오 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 아수바라 실히의 딸이더라

왕상22:43 여호사밧이 그의 아버지 아사의 모든 길로 행하며 돌이키지 아니하고 여호와 앞에서 정직히 행하였으나 산당은 폐하지 아니하였으므로 백성이 아직도 산당에서 제사를 드리며 분향하였더라

왕상22:44 여호사밧이 이스라엘의 왕과 더불어 화평하니라

왕상22:45 여호사밧의 남은 사적과 그가 부린 권세와 그가 어떻게 전쟁하였는지는 다 유다 왕 역대지략에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

왕상22:46 그가 그의 아버지 아사의 시대에 남아 있던 남색하는 자들을 그 땅에서 쫓아내었더라

왕상22:47 그 때에 에돔에는 왕이 없고 섭정 왕이 있었더라

왕상22:48 여호사밧이 다시스의 선박을 제조하고 오빌로 금을 구하러 보내려 하였더니 그 배가 에시온게벨에서 파선하였으므로 가지 못하게 되매

왕상22:49 아합의 아들 아하시야가 여호사밧에게 이르되 내 종으로 당신의 종과 함께 배에 가게 하라 하나 여호사밧이 허락하지 아니하였더라

왕상22:50 여호사밧이 그의 조상들과 함께 자매 그의 조상 다윗 성에 그의 조상들과 함께 장사되고 그의 아들 여호람이 대신하여 왕이 되니라

왕상22:51 유다의 여호사밧 왕 제십칠년에 아합의 아들 아하시야가 사마리아에서 이스라엘의 왕이 되어 이 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스리니라

왕상22:52 그가 여호와 앞에서 악을 행하여 그의 아버지의 길과 그의 어머니의 길과 이스라엘에게 범죄하게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 길로 행하며

왕상22:53 바알을 섬겨 그에게 예배하여 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 노하시게 하기를 그의 아버지의 온갖 행위 같이 하였더라

데살로니가전서 5 장.

살전5:1 형제들아 때와 시기에 관하여는 너희에게 쓸 것이 없음은

살전5:2 주의 날이 밤에 도둑 같이 이를 줄을 너희 자신이 자세히 알기 때문이라

살전5:3 그들이 평안하다, 안전하다 할 그 때에 임신한 여자에게 해산의 고통이 이름과 같이 멸망이 갑자기 그들에게 이르리니 결코 피하지 못하리라

살전5:4 형제들아 너희는 어둠에 있지 아니하매 그 날이 도둑같이 너희에게 임하지 못하리니

살전5:5 너희는 다 빛의 아들이요 낮의 아들이라 우리가 밤이나 어둠에 속하지 아니하나니

살전5:6 그러므로 우리는 다른 이들과 같이 자지 말고 오직 깨어 정신을 차릴지라

살전5:7 자는 자들은 밤에 자고 취하는 자들은 밤에 취하되

살전5:8 우리는 낮에 속하였으니 정신을 차리고 믿음과 사랑의 호심경을 붙이고 구원의 소망의 투구를 쓰자

살전5:9 하나님이 우리를 세우심은 우리를 노하심에 이르게 하심이 아니요 오직 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 구원을 받게 하심이라

살전5:10 예수께서 우리를 위하여 죽으사 우리로 하여금 깨어 있든지 자든지 자기와 함께 살게 하려 하셨느니라

살전5:11 그러므로 피차 권면하고 서로 덕을 세우기를 너희가 하는 것 같이 하라

살전5:12 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하노니 너희 가운데서 수고하고 주 안에서 너희를 다스리며 권하는 자들을 너희가 알고

살전5:13 그들의 역사로 말미암아 사랑 안에서 가장 귀리 여기며 너희끼리 화목하라

살전5:14 또 형제들아 너희를 권면하노니 게으른 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람에게 오래 참으라

살전5:15 삼가 누가 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 말게 하고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람을 대하든지 항상 선을 따르라

살전5:16 항상 기뻐하라

살전5:17 쉬지 말고 기도하라

살전5:18 범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라

살전5:19 성령을 소멸하지 말며

살전5:20 예언을 멸시하지 말며

살전5:21 범사에 헤아려 좋은 것을 취하고

살전5:22 악은 어떤 모양이라도 버리라

살전5:23 평강의 하나님이 친히 너희를 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 너희의 온 영과 혼과 몸이 우리 때에 흠 없게 보전되기를 원하노라

살전5:24 너희를 부르시는 이는 미쁘시니 그가 또한 이루시리라

살전5:25 형제들아 우리를 위하여 기도하라

살전5:26 거룩하게 입맞춤으로 모든 형제에게 문안하라

살전5:27 내가 주를 힘입어 너희를 명하노니 모든 형제에게 이 편지를 읽어 주라

살전5:28 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜가 너희에게 있을지어다

다니엘 4 장.

단4:1 느부갓네살 왕은 천하에 거주하는 모든 백성들과 나라들과 각 언어를 말하는 자들에게 조서를 내리노라 원하노니 너희에게 큰 평강이 있을지어다

단4:2 지극히 높으신 하나님이 내게 행하신 이적과 놀라운 일을 내가 알게 하기를 즐겨 하노라

단4:3 참으로 크도다 그의 이적이여, 참으로 능하도다 그의 놀라운 일이여, 그의 나라는 영원한 나라요 그의 통치는 대대에 이르리로다

단4:4 나 느부갓네살이 내 집에 편히 있으며 내 궁에서 평강할 때에

단4:5 한 꿈을 꾸고 그로 말미암아 두려워하였으니 곧 내 침상에서 생각하는 것과 머리 속으로 받은 환상으로 말미암아 번민하였었노라

단4:6 이러므로 내가 명령을 내려 바벨론의 모든 지혜자들을 내 앞으로 불러다가 그 꿈의 해석을 내게 알게 하라 하였더라

단4:7 그 때에 박수와 술객과 갈대아 술사와 점쟁이가 들어왔으므로 내가 그 꿈을 그들에게 말하였으나 그들이 그 해석을 내게 알려 주지 못하였느니라

단4:8 그 후에 다니엘이 내 앞에 들어 왔으니 그는 내 신의 이름을 따라 벨드사살이라 이름한 자요 그의 안에는 거룩한 신들의 영이 있는 자라 내가 그에게 꿈을 말하여 이르되

단4:9 박수장 벨드사살아 네 안에는 거룩한 신들의 영이 있은즉 어떤 은밀한 것이라도 네게는 어려울 것이 없는 줄을 내가 아노니 내 꿈에 본 환상의 해석을 내게 말하라

단4:10 내가 침상에서 나의 머리 속으로 받은 환상이 이러하니라 내가 본즉 땅의 중앙에 한 나무가 있는 것을 보았는데 높이가 높더니

단4:11 그 나무가 자라서 견고하여지고 그 높이는 하늘에 닿았으니 그 모양이 땅 끝에서도 보이겠고

단4:12 그 잎사귀는 아름답고 그 열매는 많아서 만민의 먹을 것이 될만하고 들짐승이 그 그늘에 있으며 공중에 나는 새는 그 가지에 깃들이고 육체를 가진 모든 것이 거기에서 먹을 것을 얻더라

단4:13 내가 침상에서 머리 속으로 받은 환상 가운데에 또 본즉 한 순찰자, 한 거룩한 자가 하늘에서 내려왔는데

단4:14 그가 소리 질러 이처럼 이르기를 그 나무를 베고 그 가지를 자르고 그 잎사귀를 떨고 그 열매를 헤치고 짐승들을 그 아래에서 떠나게 하고 새들을 그 가지에서 쫒아내라

단4:15 그러나 그 뿌리의 그루터기를 땅에 남겨 두고 쇠와 놋줄로 동이고 그것을 들 풀 가운데에 두어라 그것이 하늘 이슬에 젖고 땅의 풀 가운데에서 짐승과 더불어 제 몫을 얻으리라

단4:16 또 그 마음은 변하여 사람의 마음 같지 아니하고 짐승의 마음을 받아 일곱 때를 지내리라

단4:17 이는 순찰자들의 명령대로요 거룩한 자들의 말대로이니 지극히 높으신 이가 사람의 나라를 다스리시며 자기의 뜻대로 그것을 누구에게든지 주시며 또 지극히 천한 자를 그 위에 세우시는 줄을 사람들이 알게 하려 함이라 하였느니라

단4:18 나 느부갓네살 왕이 이 꿈을 꾸었나니 너 벨드사살아 그 해석을 밝히 말하라 내 나라 모든 지혜자가 능히 내게 그 해석을 알게 하지 못하였으나 오직 너는 능히 하리니 이는 거룩한 신들의 영이 네 안에 있음이라

단4:19 벨드사살이라 이름한 다니엘이 한동안 놀라며 마음으로 번민하는지라 왕이 그에게 말하 여 이르기를 벨드사살아 너는 이 꿈과 그 해석으로 말미암아 번민할 것이 아니니라 벨드사살이 대답하여 이르되 내 주여 그 꿈은 왕을 미워하는 자에게 응하며 그 해석은 왕의 대적에게 응하기를 원하나이다

단4:20 왕께서 보신 그 나무가 자라서 견고하여지고 그 높이는 하늘에 닿았으니 땅 끝에서도 보이겠고

단4:21 그 잎사귀는 아름답고 그 열매는 많아서 만민의 먹을 것이 될만하고 들짐승은 그 아래에 살며 공중에 나는 새는 그 가지에 깃들었나이다

단4:22 왕이여 이 나무는 곧 왕이시라 이는 왕이 자라서 견고하여지고 창대하사 하늘에 닿으시며 권세는 땅 끝까지 미치심이니이다

단4:23 왕이 보신즉 한 순찰자, 한 거룩한 자가 하늘에서 내려와서 이르기를 그 나무를 베어 없애라 그러나 그 뿌리의 그루터기는 땅에 남겨 두고 쇠와 놋줄로 동이고 그것을 들풀 가운데에 두라 그것이 하늘 이슬에 젖고 또 들짐승들과 더불어 제 몫을 얻으며 일곱 때를 지내리라 하였나이다

단4:24 왕이여 그 해석은 이러하니이다 곧 지극히 높으신 이가 명령하신 것이 내 주 왕에게 미칠 것이라

단4:25 왕이 사람에게서 쫓겨나서 들짐승과 함께 살며 소처럼 풀을 먹으며 하늘 이슬에 젖을 것이요 이와 같이 일곱 때를 지낼 것이라 그 때에 지극히 높으신 이가 사람의 나라를 다스리시며 자기의 뜻대로 그것을 누구에게든지 주시는 줄을 아시리이다

단4:26 또 그들이 그 나무뿌리의 그루터기를 남겨 두라 하였은즉 하나님이 다스리시는 줄을 왕이 깨달은 후에야 왕의 나라가 견고하리이다

단4:27 그런즉 왕이여 내가 아뢰는 것을 받으시고 공의를 행함으로 죄를 사하고 가난한 자를 긍휼히 여김으로 죄악을 사하소서 그리하시면 왕의 평안함이 혹시 장구하리이다 하니라

단4:28 이 모든 일이 다 나 느부갓네살 왕에게 임하였느니라

단4:29 열두 달이 지난 후에 내가 바벨론 왕궁 지붕에서 거닐새

단4:30 나 왕이 말하여 이르되 이 큰 바벨론은 내가 능력과 권세로 건설하여 나의 도성으로 삼고 이것으로 내 위엄의 영광을 나타낸 것이 아니냐 하였더니

단4:31 이 말이 아직도 나 왕의 입에 있을 때에 하늘에서 소리가 내려 이르되 느부갓네살 왕아 네게 말하노니 나라의 왕위가 네게서 떠났느니라

단4:32 네가 사람에게서 쫓겨나서 들짐승과 함께 살면서 소처럼 풀을 먹을 것이요 이와 같이 일곱 때를 지내서 지극히 높으신 이가 사람의 나라를 다스리시며 자기의 뜻대로 그것을 누구에게든지 주시는 줄을 알기까지 이르리라 하더라

단4:33 바로 그 때에 이 일이 느부갓네살에게 응하므로 내가 사람에게 쫓겨나서 소처럼 풀을 먹으며 몸이 하늘 이슬에 젖고 머리털이 독수리 털과 같이 자랐고 손톱은 새 발톱과 같이 되었더라

단4:34 그 기한이 차매 나 느부갓네살이 하늘을 우러러 보았더니 내 총명이 다시 내게로 돌아온지라 이에 내가 지극히 높으신 이에게 감사하며 영생하시는 이를 찬양하고 경배하였나니 그 권세는 영원한 권세요 그 나라는 대대에 이르리로다

단4:35 땅의 모든 사람들을 없는 것 같이 여기시며 하늘의 군대에게든지 땅의 사람에게든지 그는 자기 뜻대로 행하시나니 그의 손을 금하든지 혹시 이르기를 네가 무엇을 하느냐고 할 자가 아무도 없도다

단4:36 그 때에 내 총명이 내게로 돌아왔고 또 내 나라의 영광에 대하여도 내 위엄과 광명이 내게로 돌아왔고 또 나의 모사들과 관원들이 내게 찾아오니 내가 내 나라에서 다시 세움을 받고 또 지극한 위세가 내게 더하였느니라

단4:37 그러므로 지금 나 느부갓네살은 하늘의 왕을 찬양하며 칭송하며 경배하노니 그의 일이 다 진실하고 그의 행하심이 의로우시므로 교만하게 행하는 자를 그가 능히 낮추심이라

시편 108 장.

시108:1 하나님이여 내 마음을 정하였사오니 내가 노래하며 나의 마음을 다하여 찬양하리로다

시108:2 비파야, 수금아, 깰지어다 내가 새벽을 깨우리로다

시108:3 여호와여 내가 만민 중에서 주께 감사하고 뭇 나라 중에서 주를 찬양하오리니

시108:4 주의 인자하심이 하늘보다 높으시며 주의 진실은 궁창에까지 이르나이다

시108:5 하나님이여 주는 하늘 위에 높이 들리시며 주의 영광이 온 땅에서 높임 받으시기를 원하나이다

시108:6 주께서 사랑하시는 자들을 건지시기 위하여 우리에게 응답하사 오른손으로 구원하소서

시108:7 하나님이 그의 성소에서 말씀하시되 내가 기뻐하리라 내가 세겜을 나누며 숙곳 골짜기를 측량하리라

시108:8 길르앗이 내 것이요 므낫세도 내 것이며 에브라임은 내 머리의 투구요 유다는 나의 규이며

시108:9 모압은 내 목욕통이라 에돔에는 내 신발을 벗어 던질지며 블레셋 위에서 내가 외치리라 하셨도다

시108:10 누가 나를 이끌어 견고한 성읍으로 인도해 들이며 누가 나를 에돔으로 인도할꼬

시108:11 하나님이여 주께서 우리를 버리지 아니하셨나이까 하나님이여 주께서 우리의 군대들과 함께 나아가지 아니하시나이다

시108:12 우리를 도와 대적을 치게 하소서 사람의 구원은 헛됨이니이다

시108:13 우리가 하나님을 의지하고 용감히 행하리니 그는 우리의 대적들을 밟으실 자이심이로다

시편 109 장.

시109:1 내가 찬양하는 하나님이여 잠잠하지 마옵소서

시109:2 그들이 악한 입과 거짓된 입을 열어 나를 치며 속이는 혀로 내게 말하며

시109:3 또 미워하는 말로 나를 두르고 까닭 없이 나를 공격하였음이니이다

시109:4 나는 사랑하나 그들은 도리어 나를 대적하니 나는 기도할 뿐이라

시109:5 그들이 악으로 나의 선을 갚으며 미워함으로 나의 사랑을 갚았사오니

시109:6 악인이 그를 다스리게 하시며 사탄이 그의 오른쪽에 서게 하소서

1 Kings 22.

22:1 For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel.

22:2 But in the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to see the king of Israel.

22:3 The king of Israel had said to his officials, "Don't you know that Ramoth Gilead belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?"

22:4 So he asked Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to fight against Ramoth Gilead?" Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."

22:5 But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "First seek the counsel of the LORD."

22:6 So the king of Israel brought together the prophets--about four hundred men--and asked them, "Shall I go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Go," they answered, "for the Lord will give it into the king's hand."

22:7 But Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there not a prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?"

22:8 The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah." "The king should not say that," Jehoshaphat replied.

22:9 So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, "Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once."

22:10 Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them.

22:11 Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns and he declared, "This is what the LORD says: 'With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.'"

22:12 All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. "Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious," they said, "for the LORD will give it into the king's hand."

22:13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Look, as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably."

22:14 But Micaiah said, "As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what the LORD tells me."

22:15 When he arrived, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?" "Attack and be victorious," he answered, "for the LORD will give it into the king's hand."

22:16 The king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"

22:17 Then Micaiah answered, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, 'These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.'"

22:18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?"

22:19 Micaiah continued, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left.

22:20 And the LORD said, 'Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?' "One suggested this, and another that.

22:21 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, 'I will entice him.'

22:22 "'By what means?' the LORD asked. "'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said. "'You will succeed in enticing him,' said the LORD. 'Go and do it.'

22:23 "So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."

22:24 Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. "Which way did the spirit from the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?" he asked.

22:25 Micaiah replied, "You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room."

22:26 The king of Israel then ordered, "Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king's son

22:27 and say, 'This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.'"

22:28 Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Mark my words, all you people!"

22:29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

22:30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.

22:31 Now the king of Aram had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, "Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel."

22:32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, "Surely this is the king of Israel." So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat cried out,

22:33 the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel and stopped pursuing him.

22:34 But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, "Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I've been wounded."

22:35 All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died.

22:36 As the sun was setting, a cry spread through the army: "Every man to his town; everyone to his land!"

22:37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, and they buried him there.

22:38 They washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria (where the prostitutes bathed), and the dogs licked up his blood, as the word of the LORD had declared.

22:39 As for the other events of Ahab's reign, including all he did, the palace he built and inlaid with ivory, and the cities he fortified, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

22:40 Ahab rested with his fathers. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

22:41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

22:42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

22:43 In everything he walked in the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

22:44 Jehoshaphat was also at peace with the king of Israel.

22:45 As for the other events of Jehoshaphat's reign, the things he achieved and his military exploits, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?

22:46 He rid the land of the rest of the male shrine prostitutes who remained there even after the reign of his father Asa.

22:47 There was then no king in Edom; a deputy ruled.

22:48 Now Jehoshaphat built a fleet of trading ships to go to Ophir for gold, but they never set sail--they were wrecked at Ezion Geber.

22:49 At that time Ahaziah son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my men sail with your men," but Jehoshaphat refused.

22:50 Then Jehoshaphat rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of David his father. And Jehoram his son succeeded him.

22:51 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

22:52 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, because he walked in the ways of his father and mother and in the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

1 Thessalonians 5.

5:1 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,

5:2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

5:3 While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

5:4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

5:5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

5:6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.

5:7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

5:8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

5:9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

5:10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.

5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

5:12 Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.

5:13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

5:14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

5:15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.

5:16 Be joyful always;

5:17 pray continually;

5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

5:19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire;

5:20 do not treat prophecies with contempt.

5:21 Test everything. Hold on to the good.

5:22 Avoid every kind of evil.

5:23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5:24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

5:25 Brothers, pray for us.

5:26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.

5:27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.

Daniel 4.

4:1 King Nebuchadnezzar, To the peoples, nations and men of every language, who live in all the world: May you prosper greatly!

4:2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.

4:3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation.

4:4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented and prosperous.

4:5 I had a dream that made me afraid. As I was lying in my bed, the images and visions that passed through my mind terrified me.

4:6 So I commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret the dream for me.

4:7 When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners came, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me.

4:8 Finally, Daniel came into my presence and I told him the dream. (He is called Belteshazzar, after the name of my god, and the spirit of the holy gods is in him.)

4:9 I said, "Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me.

4:10 These are the visions I saw while lying in my bed: I looked, and there before me stood a tree in the middle of the land. Its height was enormous.

4:11 The tree grew large and strong and its top touched the sky; it was visible to the ends of the earth.

4:12 Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, and the birds of the air lived in its branches; from it every creature was fed.

4:13 "In the visions I saw while lying in my bed, I looked, and there before me was a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven.

4:14 He called in a loud voice: 'Cut down the tree and trim off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches.

4:15 But let the stump and its roots, bound with iron and bronze, remain in the ground, in the grass of the field. "'Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him live with the animals among the plants of the earth.

4:16 Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given the mind of an animal, till seven times pass by for him.

4:17 "'The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of men.'

4:18 "This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise men in my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you can, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you."

4:19 Then Daniel (also called Belteshazzar) was greatly perplexed for a time, and his thoughts terrified him. So the king said, "Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its meaning alarm you." Belteshazzar answered, "My lord, if only the dream appliad to your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries!

4:20 The tree you saw, which grew large and strong, with its top touching the sky, visible to the whole earth,

4:21 with beautiful leaves and abundant fruit, providing food for all, giving shelter to the beasts of the field, and having nesting places in its branches for the birds of the air--

4:22 you, O king, are that tree! You have become great and strong; your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to distant parts of the earth.

4:23 "You, O king, saw a messenger, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, 'Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump, bound with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field, while its roots remain in the ground. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven; let him live like the wild animals, until seven times pass by for him.'

4:24 "This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree the Most High has issued against my lord the king:

4:25 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes.

4:26 The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules.

4:27 Therefore, O king, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue."

4:28 All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.

4:29 Twehve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon,

4:30 he said, "Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?"

4:31 The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven, "This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.

4:32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like cattle. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes."

4:33 Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like cattle. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.

4:34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.

4:35 All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: "What have you done?"

4:36 At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before.

4:37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

Psalms 108.

108:1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul.

108:2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

108:3 I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.

108:4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

108:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth.

108:6 Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.

108:7 God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Succoth.

108:8 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.

108:9 Moab is my washbasin, upon Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph."

108:10 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?

108:11 Is it not you, O God, you who have rejected us and no longer go out with our armies?

108:12 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.

108:13 With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.

Psalms 109.

109:1 O God, whom I praise, do not remain silent,

109:2 for wicked and deceitful men have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues.

109:3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.

109:4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.

109:5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

109:6 Appoint an evil man to oppose him; let an accuser stand at his right hand.

109:7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him.

109:8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.

109:9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

109:10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.

109:11 May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.

109:12 May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.

109:13 May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation.

109:14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.

109:15 May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

109:16 For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted.

109:17 He loved to pronounce a curse--may it come on him; he found no pleasure in blessing--may it be far from him.

109:18 He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil.

109:19 May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him.

109:20 May this be the LORD'S payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me.

109:21 But you, O Sovereign LORD, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.

109:22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

109:23 I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust.

109:24 My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt.

109:25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads.

109:26 Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love.

109:27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, O LORD, have done it.

109:28 They may curse, but you will bless; when they attack they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice.

109:29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak.

109:30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng I will praise him.

109:31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save his life from those who condemn him.
