열왕기하 2 장.

왕하2:1 여호와께서 회오리 바람으로 엘리야를 하늘로 올리고자 하실 때에 엘리야가 엘리사와 더불어 길갈에서 나가더니

왕하2:2 엘리야가 엘리사에게 이르되 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 벧엘로 보내시느니라 하니 엘리사가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하는지라 이에 두 사람이 벧엘로 내려가니

왕하2:3 벧엘에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 엘리사에게로 나아와 그에게 이르되 여호와께서 오늘 당신의 선생을 당신의 머리 위로 데려 가실 줄을 아시나이까 하니 이르되 나도 또한 아노니 너희는 잠잠하라 하니라

왕하2:4 엘리야가 그에게 이르되 엘리사야 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 여리고로 보내시느니라 엘리사가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하니라 그들이 여리고에 이르매

왕하2:5 여리고에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 엘리사에게 나아와 이르되 여호와께서 오늘 당신의 선생을 당신의 머리 위로 데려가실 줄을 아시나이까 하니 엘리사가 이르되 나도 아노니 너희는 잠잠하라

왕하2:6 엘리야가 또 엘리사에게 이르되 청하건대 너는 여기 머물라 여호와께서 나를 요단으로 보내시느니라 하니 그가 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심과 당신의 영혼이 살아 있음을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 당신을 떠나지 아니하겠나이다 하는지라 이에 두 사람이 가니라

왕하2:7 선지자의 제자 오십 명이 가서 멀리 서서 바라보매 그 두 사람이 요단 가에 서 있더니

왕하2:8 엘리야가 겉옷을 가지고 말아 물을 치매 물이 이리 저리 갈라지고 두 사람이 마른 땅 위로 건너더라

왕하2:9 건너매 엘리야가 엘리사에게 이르되 나를 네게서 데려감을 당하기 전에 내가 네게 어떻게 할지를 구하라 엘리사가 이르되 당신의 성령이 하시는 역사가 갑절이나 내게 있게 하소서 하는지라

왕하2:10 이르되 네가 어려운 일을 구하는도다 그러나 나를 네게서 데려가시는 것을 네가 보면 그 일이 네게 이루어지려니와 그렇지 아니하면 이루어지지 아니하리라 하고

왕하2:11 두 사람이 길을 가며 말하더니 불수레와 불말들이 두 사람을 갈라놓고 엘리야가 회오리 바람으로 하늘로 올라가더라

왕하2:12 엘리사가 보고 소리 지르되 내 아버지여 내 아버지여 이스라엘의 병거와 그 마병이여 하더니 다시 보이지 아니하는지라 이에 엘리사가 자기의 옷을 잡아 둘로 찢고

왕하2:13 엘리야의 몸에서 떨어진 겉옷을 주워 가지고 돌아와 요단 언덕에 서서

왕하2:14 엘리야의 몸에서 떨어진 그의 겉옷을 가지고 물을 치며 이르되 엘리야의 하나님 여호와는 어디 계시니이까 하고 그도 물을 치매 물이 이리 저리 갈라지고 엘리사가 건너니라

왕하2:15 맞은편 여리고에 있는 선지자의 제자들이 그를 보며 말하기를 엘리야의 성령이 하시는 역사가 엘리사 위에 머물렀다 하고 가서 그에게로 나아가 땅에 엎드려 그에게 경배하고

왕하2:16 그에게 이르되 당신의 종들에게 용감한 사람 오십 명이 있으니 청하건대 그들이 가서 당신의 주인을 찾게 하소서 염려하건대 여호와의 성령이 그를 들고 가다가 어느 산에나 어느 골짜기에 던지셨을까 하나이다 하니라 엘리사가 이르되 보내지 말라 하나

왕하2:17 무리가 그로 부끄러워하도록 강청하매 보내라 한지라 그들이 오십 명을 보냈더니 사흘 동안을 찾되 발견하지 못하고

왕하2:18 엘리사가 여리고에 머무는 중에 무리가 그에게 돌아오니 엘리사가 그들에게 이르되 내가 가지 말라고 너희에게 이르지 아니하였느냐 하였더라

왕하2:19 그 성읍 사람들이 엘리사에게 말하되 우리 주인께서 보시는 바와 같이 이 성읍의 위치는 좋으나 물이 나쁘므로 토산이 익지 못하고 떨어지나이다

왕하2:20 엘리사가 이르되 새 그릇에 소금을 담아 내게로 가져오라 하매 곧 가져온지라

왕하2:21 엘리사가 물 근원으로 나아가서 소금을 그 가운데에 던지며 이르되 여호와의 말씀이 내가 이 물을 고쳤으니 이로부터 다시는 죽음이나 열매 맺지 못함이 없을지니라 하셨느니라 하니

왕하2:22 그 물이 엘리사가 한 말과 같이 고쳐져서 오늘에 이르렀더라

왕하2:23 엘리사가 거기서 벧엘로 올라가더니 그가 길에서 올라갈 때에 작은 아이들이 성읍에서 나와 그를 조롱하여 이르되 대머리여 올라가라 대머리여 올라가라 하는지라

왕하2:24 엘리사가 뒤로 돌이켜 그들을 보고 여호와의 이름으로 저주하매 곧 수풀에서 암콤 둘이 나와서 아이들 중의 사십이 명을 찢었더라

왕하2:25 엘리사가 거기서부터 갈멜 산으로 가고 거기서 사마리아로 돌아왔더라

데살로니가후서 2 장.

살후2:1 형제들아 우리가 너희에게 구하는 것은 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 강림하심과 우리가 그 앞에 모임에 관하여

살후2:2 영으로나 또는 말로나 또는 우리에게서 받았다 하는 편지로나 주의 날이 이르렀다고 해서 쉽게 마음이 흔들리거나 두려워하거나 하지 말아야 한다는 것이라

살후2:3 누가 어떻게 하여도 너희가 미혹되지 마랄 먼저 배교하는 일이 있고 저 불법의 사람 곧 멸망의 아들이 나타나기 전에는 그 날이 이르지 아니하리니

살후2:4 그는 대적하는 자라 신이라고 불리는 모든 것과 숭배함을 받는 것에 대항하여 그 위에 자기를 높이고 하나님이라고 내세우느니라

살후2:5 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 이일을 너희에게 말한 것을 기억하지 못하느냐

살후2:6 너희는 지금 그로 하여금 그의 때에 나타나게 하려 하여 막는 것이 있는 것을 아나니

살후2:7 불법의 비밀이 이미 활동하였으나 지금은 그것을 막는 자가 있어 그 중에서 옮겨질 때까지 하리라

살후2:8 그 때에 불법한 자가 나타나리니 주 예수께서 그 입의 기운으로 그를 죽이시고 강림하여 나타나심으로 폐하시리라

살후2:9 악한 자의 나타남은 사탄의 활동을 따라 모든 능력과 표적과 거짓 기적과

살후2:10 불의의 모든 속임으로 멸망하는 자들에게 있으리니 이는 그들이 진리의 사랑을 받지 아니하여 구원함을 받지 못함이라

살후2:11 이러므로 하나님이 미혹의 역사를 그들에게 보내사 거짓 것을 믿게 하심은

살후2:12 진리를 믿지 않고 불의를 좋아하는 모든 자들로 하여금 심판을 받게 하려 하심이라

살후2:13 주께서 사랑하시는 형제들아 우리가 항상 너희에 관하여 마땅히 하나님께 감사할 것은 하나님이 처음부터 너희를 택하사 성령의 거룩하게 하심과 진리를 믿음으로 구원을 받게 하심이니

살후2:14 이를 위하여 우리의 복음으로 너희를 부르사 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 영광을 얻게 하려 하심이니라

살후2:15 그러므로 형제들아 굳건하게 서서 말로나 우리의 편지로 가르침을 받은 전통을 지키라

살후2:16 우리 주 예수 그리스도와 우리를 사랑하시고 영원한 위로와 좋은 소망을 은혜로 주신 하나님 우리 아버지께서

살후2:17 너희 마음을 위로하시고 모든 선한 일과 말에 굳건하게 하시기를 원하노라

다니엘 6 장.

단6:1 다리오가 자기의 뜻대로 고관 백이십 명을 세워 전국을 통치하게 하고

단6:2 또 그들 위에 총리 셋을 두었으니 다니엘이 그 중의 하나이라 이는 고관들로 총리에게 자기의 직무를 보고하게 하여 왕에게 손해가 없게 하려 함이었더라

단6:3 다니엘은 마음이 민첩하여 총리들과 고관들 위에 뛰어나므로 왕이 그를 세워 전국을 다스 리게 하고자 한지라

단6:4 이에 총리들과 고관들이 국사에 대하여 다니엘을 고발할 근거를 찾고자 하였으나 아무 근 거, 아무 허물도 찾지 못하였으니 이는 그가 충성되어 아무 그릇됨도 없고 아무 허물도 없음이었더라

단6:5 그들이 이르되 이 다니엘은 그 하나님의 율법에서 근거를 찾지 못하면 그를 고발할 수 없으리라 하고

단6:6 이에 총리들과 고관들이 모여 왕에게 나아가서 그에게 말하되 다리오 왕이여 만수무강 하 옵소서

단6:7 나라의 모든 총리와 지사와 총독과 법관과 관원이 의논하고 왕에게 한 법률을 세우며 한 금령을 정하실 것을 구하나이다 왕이여 그것은 곧 이제부터 삼십 일 동안에 누구든지 왕 외의 어떤 신에게나 사람에게 무엇을 구하면 사자 굴에 던져 넣기로 한 것이니이다

단6:8 그런즉 왕이여 원하건대 금령을 세우시고 그 조서에 왕의 도장을 찍어 메대와 바사의 고치지 아니하는 규례를 따라 그것을 다시 고치지 못하게 하옵소서 하매

단6:9 이에 다리오 왕이 조서에 왕의 도장을 찍어 금령을 내니라

단6:10 다니엘이 이 조서에 왕의 도장이 찍한 것을 알고도 자기 집에 돌아가서는 윗방에 올라가 예루살렘으로 향한 창문을 열고 전에 하던 대로 하루 세 번씩 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 그의 하나님께 감사하였더라

단6:11 그 무리들이 모여서 다니엘이 자기 하나님 앞에 기도하며 간구하는 것을 발견하고

단6:12 이에 그들이 나아가서 왕의 금령에 관하여 왕께 아뢰되 왕이여 왕이 이미 금령에 왕의 도장을 찍어서 이제부터 삼십 일 동안에는 누구든지 왕 외의 어떤 신에게나 사람에게 구하면 사자 굴에 던져 넣기로 하지 아니하였나이까 하니 왕이 대답하여 이르되 이 일이 확실하니 메대와 바사의 고치지 못하는 규례니라 하는지라

단6:13 그들이 왕 앞에서 말하여 이르되 왕이여 사로잡혀 온 유다 자손 중에 다니엘이 왕과 왕의 도장이 찍힌 금령을 존중하지 아니하고 하루 세 번씩 기도하나이다 하니

단6:14 왕이 이 말을 듣고 그로 말미암아 심히 근심하여 다니엘을 구원하려고 마음을 쓰며 그를 건져내려고 힘을 다하다가 해가 질 때에 이르렀더라

단6:15 그 무리들이 또 모여 왕에게로 나아와서 왕께 말하되 왕이여 메대와 바사의 규례를 아시거니와 왕께서 세우신 금령과 법도는 고치지 못할 것이니이다 하니

단6:16 이에 왕이 명령하매 다니엘을 끌어다가 사자 굴에 던져 넣는지라 왕이 다니엘에게 이르되 네가 항상 섬기는 너의 하나님이 너를 구원하시리라 하니라

단6:17 이에 돌을 굴려다가 굴 어귀를 막으매 왕이 그의 도장과 귀족들의 도장으로 봉하였으니 이는 다니엘에 대한 조치를 고치지 못하게 하려 함이었더라

단6:18 왕이 궁에 돌아가서는 밤이 새도록 금식하고 그 앞에 오락을 그치고 잠자기를 마다하니 라

단6:19 이튿날에 왕이 새벽에 일어나 급히 사자 굴로 가서

단6:20 다니엘이 든 굴에 가까이 이르러서 슬피 소리 질러 다니엘에게 묻되 살아 계시는 하나님의 종 다니엘아 네가 항상 섬기는 네 하나님이 사자들에게서 능히 너를 구원하셨느냐 하니라

단6:21 다니엘이 왕에게 아뢰되 왕이여 원하건대 왕은 만수무강 하옵소서

단6:22 나의 하나님이 이미 그의 천사를 보내어 사자들의 입을 봉하셨으므로 사자들이 나를 상해하지 못하였사오니 이는 나의 무죄함이 그 앞에 명백함이오며 또 왕이여 나는 왕에게도 해를 끼치지 아니하였나이다 하더라

단6:23 왕이 심히 기뻐서 명하여 다니엘을 굴에서 올리라 하매 그들이 다니엘을 굴에서 올린즉 그의 몸이 조금도 상하지 아니하였으니 이는 그가 자기의 하나님을 믿음이었더라

단6:24 왕이 말하여 다니엘을 참소한 사람들을 끌어오게 하고 그들을 그들의 처자들과 함께 사자 굴에 던져 넣게 하였더니 그들이 굴 바닥에 닿기도 전에 사자들이 곧 그들을 움켜서 그 뼈까지도 부서뜨렸더라

단6:25 이에 다리오 왕이 온 땅에 있는 모든 백성과 나라들과 언어가 다른 모든 사람들에게 조서를 내려 이르되 원하건대 너희에게 큰 평강이 있을지어다

단6:26 내가 이제 조서를 내리노라 내 나라 관할 아래에 있는 사람들은 다 다니엘의 하나님 앞에서 떨며 두려워할지니 그는 살아 계시는 하나님이시요 영원히 변하지 않으실 이시며 그의 나라는 멸망하지 아니할 것이요 그의 권세는 무궁할 것이며

단6:27 그는 구원도 하시며 건져내기도 하시며 하늘에서든지 땅에서든지 이적과 기사를 행하시 는 이로서 다니엘을 구원하여 사자의 입에서 벗어나게 하셨음이라 하였더라

단6:28 이 다니엘이 다리오 왕의 시대와 바사 사람 고레스 왕의 시대에 형통하였더라

시편 112 장.

시112:1 할렐루야, 여호와를 경외하며 그의 계명을 크게 즐거워하는 자는 복이 있도다

시112:2 그의 후손이 땅에서 강성함이여 정직한 자들의 후손에게 복이 있으리로다

시112:3 부와 재물이 그의 집에 있음이여 그의 공의가 영구히 서 있으리로다

시112:4 정직한 자들에게는 흑암 중에 빛이 일어나나니 그는 자비롭고 긍휼이 많으며 의로운 이시로다

시112:5 은혜를 베풀며 꾸어 주는 자는 잘 되나니 그 일을 정의로 행하리로다

시112:6 그는 영원히 흔들리지 아니함이여 의인은 영원히 기억되리로다

시112:7 그는 흉한 소문을 두려워하지 아니함이여 여호와를 의뢰하고 그의 마음을 굳게 정하였도다

시112:8 그의 마음이 견고하여 두려워하지 아니할 것이라 그의 대적들이 받는 보응을 마침내 보리로다

시112:9 그가 재물을 흩어 빈궁한 자들에게 주었으니 그의 의가 영구히 있고 그의 뿔이 영광 중에 들리리로다

시112:10 악인은 이를 보고 한탄하여 이를 갈면서 소멸되리니 악인들의 욕망은 사라지리로다

시편 113 장.

시113:1 할렐루야, 여호와의 종들아 찬양하라 여호와의 이름을 찬양하라

시113:2 이제부터 영원까지 여호와의 이름을 찬송할지로다

시113:3 해 돋는 데에서부터 해 지는 데에까지 여호와의 이름이 찬양을 받으시리로다

시113:4 여호와는 모든 나라보다 높으시며 그의 영광은 하늘로다 높으시도다

시113:5 여호와 우리 하나님과 같은 이가 누구리요 높은 곳에 앉으셨으나

시113:6 스스로 낮추사 천지를 살피시고

시113:7 가난한 자를 먼지 더미에서 일으키시며 궁핍한 자를 거름더미에서 들어 세워

시113:8 지도자들 곧 그의 백성의 지도자들과 함께 세우시며

시113:9 또 임신하지 못하던 여자를 집에 살게 하사 자녀들을 즐겁게 하는 어머니가 되게 하시는도다 할렐루야

2 Kings 2.

2:1 When the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.

2:2 Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.

2:3 The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, "Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master from you today?" "Yes, I know," Elisha replied, "but do not speak of it."

2:4 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here, Elisha; the LORD has sent me to Jericho." And he replied, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went to Jericho.

2:5 The company of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, "Do you know that the LORD is going to take your master from you today?" "Yes, I know," he replied, "but do not speak of it."

2:6 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here; the LORD has sent me to the Jordan." And he replied, "As surely as the LORD lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So the two of them walked on.

2:7 Fifty men of the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan.

2:8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

2:9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied.

2:10 "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours--otherwise not."

2:11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.

2:12 Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart.

2:13 He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.

2:14 Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. "Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.

2:15 The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, "The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha." And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

2:16 "Look," they said, "we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has picked him up and set him down on some mountain or in some valley." "No," Elisha replied, "do not send them."

2:17 But they persisted until he was too ashamed to refuse. So he said, "Send them." And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him.

2:18 When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, "Didn't I tell you not to go?"

2:19 The men of the city said to Elisha, "Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive."

2:20 "Bring me a new bowl," he said, "and put salt in it." So they brought it to him.

2:21 Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, "This is what the LORD says: 'I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.'"

2:22 And the water has remained wholesome to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.

2:23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!"

2:24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.

2:25 And he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria.

2 Thessalonians 2.

2:1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers,

2:2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come.

2:3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

2:4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

2:5 Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?

2:6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

2:7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

2:9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,

2:10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

2:11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie

2:12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

2:13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

2:14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2:15 So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2:16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,

2:17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Daniel 6.

6:1 It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom,

6:2 with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss.

6:3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

6:4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.

6:5 Finally these men said, "We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God."

6:6 So the administrators and the satraps went as a group to the king and said: "O King Darius, live forever!

6:7 The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into the lions' den.

6:8 Now, O king, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered--in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed."

6:9 So King Darius put the decree in writing.

6:10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

6:11 Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.

6:12 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: "Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or man except to you, O king, would be thrown into the lions' den?" The king answered, "The decree stands--in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed."

6:13 Then they said to the king, "Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day."

6:14 When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

6:15 Then the men went as a group to the king and said to him, "Remember, O king, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed."

6:16 So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions' den. The king said to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!"

6:17 A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel's situation might not be changed.

6:18 Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep.

6:19 At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions' den.

6:20 When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?"

6:21 Daniel answered, "O king, live forever!

6:22 My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king."

6:23 The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

6:24 At the king's command, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions' den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

6:25 Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations and men of every language throughout the land: "May you prosper greatly!

6:26 "I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. "For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end.

6:27 He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."

6:28 So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Psalms 112.

112:1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.

112:2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

112:3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

112:4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.

112:5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.

112:6 Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever.

112:7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

112:8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.

112:9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor.

112:10 The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

Psalms 113.

113:1 Praise the LORD. Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

113:2 Let the name of the LORD be praised, both now and forevermore.

113:3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.

113:4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens.

113:5 Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high,

113:6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

113:7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

113:8 he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.

113:9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.
