열왕기하 5 장.

왕하5:1 아람 왕의 군대 장관 나아만은 그의 주인 앞에서 크고 존귀한 자니 이는 여호와께서 전에 그에게 아람을 구원하게 하셨음이라 그는 큰 용사이나 나병환자더라

왕하5:2 전에 아람 사람이 떼를 지어 나가서 이스라엘 땅에서 어린 소녀 하나를 사로잡으매 그가 나아만의 아내에게 수종들더니

왕하5:3 그의 여주인에게 이르되 우리 주인이 사마리아에 계신 선지자 앞에 계셨으면 좋겠나이다 그가 그 나병을 고치리이다 하는지라

왕하5:4 나아만이 들어가서 그의 주인께 아뢰어 이르되 이스라엘 땅에서 온 소녀의 말이 이러이러하더이다 하니

왕하5:5 아람 왕이 이르되 갈지어다 이제 내가 이스라엘 왕에게 글을 보내리라 하더라 나아만이 곧 떠날새 은 십 달란트와 금 육천 개와 의복 열 벌을 가지고 가서

왕하5:6 이스라엘 왕에게 그 글을 전하니 일렀으되 내가 내 신하 나아만을 당신에게 보내오니 이 글이 당신에게 이르거든 당신은 그의 나병을 고쳐 주소서 하였더라

왕하5:7 이스라엘 왕이 그 글을 읽고 자기 옷을 찢으며 이르되 내가 사람을 죽이고 살리는 하나님이냐 그가 어찌하여 사람을 내게로 보내 그의 나병을 고치라 하느냐 너희는 깊이 생각하고 저 왕이 틈을 타서 나와 더불어 시비하려 함인줄 알라 하니라

왕하5:8 하나님의 사람 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕이 자기의 옷을 찢었다 함을 듣고 왕에게 보내 이르되 왕이 어찌하여 옷을 찢었나이까 그 사람을 내게로 오게 하소서 그가 이스라엘 중에 선지자가 있는 줄을 알리이다 하니라

왕하5:9 나아만이 이에 말들과 병거들을 거느리고 이르러 엘리사의 집문에 서니

왕하5:10 엘리사가 사자를 그에게 보내 이르되 너는 가서 요단 강에 몸을 일곱 번 씻으라 네 살이 회복되어 깨끗하리라 하는지라

왕하5:11 나아만이 노하여 물러가며 이르되 내 생각에는 그가 내게로 나와 서서 그의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 부르고 그의 손을 그 부위 위에 흔들어 나병을 고칠까 하였도다

왕하5:12 다메섹 강 아마나와 바르발은 이스라엘 모든 강물보다 낫지 아니하냐 내가 거기서 몸을 씻으면 깨끗하게 되지 아니하랴 하고 몸을 돌려 분노하여 떠나니

왕하5:13 그의 종들이 나아와서 말하여 이르되 내 아버지여 선지자가 당신에게 큰 일을 행하라 말하였더면 행하지 아니하였으리이까 하물며 당신에게 이르기를 씻어 깨끗하게 하라 함이리이까 하니

왕하5:14 나아만이 이에 내려가서 하나님의 사람의 말대로 요단 강에 일곱 번 몸을 잠그니 그의 살이 어린 아이의 살 같이 회복되어 깨끗하게 되었더라

왕하5:15 나아만이 모든 군대와 함께 하나님의 사람에게로 도로 와서 그의 앞에 서서 이르되 내가 이제 이스라엘 외에는 온 천하에 신이 없는 줄을 아나이다 청하건대 당신의 종에게서 예물을 받으소서 하니

왕하5:16 이르되 내가 섬기는 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그 앞에서 받지 아니하리라 하였더라 나아만이 받으라고 강권하되 그가 거절하니라

왕하5:17 나아만이 이르되 그러면 청하건대 노새 두 마리에 실을 흙을 당신의 종에게 주소서 이제부터는 종이 번제물과 다른 희생제사를 여호와 외 다른 신에게는 드리지 아니하고 다만 여호와께 드리겠나이다

왕하5:18 오직 한 가지 일이 있사오니 여호와께서 당신의 종을 용서하시기를 원하나이다 곧 내 주인께서 림몬의 신당에 들어가 거기서 경배하며 그가 내 손을 의지하시매 내가 림몬의 신당에서 몸을 굽히오니 내가 림몬의 신당에서 몸을 굽힐 때에 여호와께서 이 일에 대하여 당신의 종을 용서하시기를 원하나이다 하니

왕하5:19 엘리사가 이르되 너는 평안히 가라 하니라 그가 엘리사를 떠나 조금 가니라

왕하5:20 하나님의 사람 엘리사의 사환 게하시가 스스로 이르되 내 주인이 이 아람 사람 나아만에게 면하여 주고 그가 가지고 온 것을 그의 손에서 받지 아니하였도다 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그를 쫓아가서 무엇이든지 그에게서 받으리라 하고

왕하5:21 나아만의 뒤를 쫓아가니 나아만이 자기 뒤에 달려옴을 보고 수레에서 내려 맞이하여 이르되 평안이냐 하니

왕하5:22 그가 이르되 평안하나이다 우리 주인께서 나를 보내시며 말씀하시기를 지금 선지자의 제자 중에 두 청년이 에브라임 산지에서부터 내게로 왔으니 청하건대 당신은 그들에게 은 한 달란트와 옷 두 벌을 주라 하시더이다

왕하5:23 나아만이 이르되 바라건대 두 달란트를 받으라 하고 그를 강권하여 은 두 달란트를 두 전대에 넣어 매고 옷 두 벌을 아울러 두 사환에게 지우매 그들이 게하시 앞에서 지고 가니라

왕하5:24 언덕에 이르러서는 게하시가 그 물건을 두 사환의 손에서 받아 집에 감추고 그들을 보내 가게 한 후

왕하5:25 들어가 그의 주인 앞에 서니 엘리사가 이르되 게하시야 네가 어디서 오느냐 하니 대답하되 당신의 종이 아무데도 가지 아니 하였나이다 하니라

왕하5:26 엘리사가 이르되 한 사람이 수레에서 내려 너를 맞이할 때에 내 마음이 함께 가지 아니하였느냐 지금이 어찌 은을 받으며 옷을 받으며 감람원이나 포도원이나 양이나 소나 남종이나 여종을 받을 때이냐

왕하5:27 그러므로 나아만의 나병이 네게 들어 네 자손에게 미쳐 영원토록 이르리라 하니 게하시가 그 앞에서 물러나오매 나병이 발하여 눈같이 되었더라

디모데전서 2 장.

딤전2:1 그러므로 내가 첫째로 권하노니 모든 사람을 위하여 간구와 기도와 도고와 감사를하되

딤전2:2 임금들과 높은 지위에 있는 모든 사람을 위하여 하라 이는 우리가 모든 경건과 단정함으로 고요하고 평안한 생활을 하려 함이라

딤전2:3 이것이 우리 구주 하나님 앞에 선하고 받으실 만한 것이니

딤전2:4 하나님은 모든 사람이 구원을 받으며 진리를 아는 데에 이르기를 원하시느니라

딤전2:5 하나님은 한 분이시오 또 하나님과 사람 사이에 중보자도 한 분이시니 곧 사람이신 그리스도 예수라

딤전2:6 그가 모든 사람을 위하여 자기를 대속물로 주셨으니 기약이 이르러 주신 증거니라

딤전2:7 이를 위하여 내가 전파하는 자와 사도로 세움을 입은 것은 참말이요 거짓말이 아니니 믿음과 진리 안에서 내가 이방인의 스승이 되었노라

딤전2:8 그러므로 각처에서 남자들이 분노와 다툼이 없이 거룩한 손을 들어 기도하기를 원하노라

딤전2:9 또 이와 같이 여자들도 단정하게 옷을 입으며 소박함과 정절로써 자기를 단장하고 땋은 머리와 금이나 진주나 값진 옷으로 하지 말고

딤전2:10 오직 선행으로 하기를 원하노라 이것이 하나님을 경외한다 하는 자들에게 마땅한 것이니라

딤전2:11 여자는 일체 순종함으로 조용히 배우라

딤전2:12 여자가 가르치는 것과 남자를 주관하는 것을 허락하지 아니하노니 오직 조용할지니라

딤전2:13 이는 아담이 먼저 지음을 받고 하와가 그 후며

딤전2:14 아담이 속은 것이 아니고 여자가 속아 죄에 빠졌음이라

딤전2:15 그러나 여자들이 만일 정숙함으로써 믿음과 사랑과 거룩함에 거하면 그의 해산함으로 구원을 얻으리라

다니엘 9 장.

단9:1 메대 족속 아하수에로의 아들 다리오가 갈대아 나라 왕으로 세움을 받던 첫 해

단9:2 곧 그 통치 원년에 나 다니엘이 책을 통해 여호와께서 말씀으로 선지자 예레미야에게 알 려 주신 그 연수를 깨달았나니 곧 예루살렘의 황폐함이 칠십 년만에 그치리라 하신 것이니 라

단9:3 내가 금식하며 베옷을 입고 재를 덮어쓰고 주 하나님께 기도하며 간구하기를 결심하고

단9:4 내 하나님 여호와께 기도하며 자복하여 이르기를 크시고 두려워할 주 하나님, 주를 사랑하고 주의 계명을 지키는 자를 위하여 언약을 지키시고 그에게 인자를 베푸시는 이시여

단9:5 우리는 이미 범죄하여 패역하며 행악하며 반역하여 주의 법도와 규례를 떠났사오며

단9:6 우리가 또 주의 종 선지자들이 주의 이름으로 우리의 왕들의 우리의 고관과 조상들과 온 국민에게 말씀한 것을 듣지 아니하였나이다

단9:7 주여 공의는 주께로 돌아가고 수치는 우리 얼굴로 돌아옴이 오늘과 같아서 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 거민들과 이스라엘이 가까운 곳에 있는 자들이나 먼 곳에 있는 자들이 다 주께서 쫓아내신 각국에서 수치를 당하였사오니 이는 그들이 주께 죄를 범하였음이니이다

단9:8 주여 수치가 우리에게 돌아오고 우리의 왕들과 우리의 고관과 조상들에게 돌아온 것은 우 리가 주께 범죄하였음이니이다마는

단9:9 주 우리 하나님께는 긍휼과 용서하심이 있사오니 이는 우리가 주께 패역하였음이오며

단9:10 우리 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 듣지 아니하며 여호와께서 그의 종 선지자들에게 부탁하여 우리 앞에 세우신 율법을 행하지 아니하였음이니이다

단9:11 온 이스라엘이 주의 율법을 범하고 치우쳐 가서 주의 목소리를 듣지 아니하였으므로 이 저주가 우리에게 내렸으되 곧 하나님의 종 모세의 율법에 기록된 맹세대로 되었사오니 이는 우리가 주께 범죄하였음이니이다

단9:12 주께서 큰 재앙을 우리에게 내리사 우리와 및 우리를 재판하던 재판관을 쳐서 하신 말씀을 이루셨사오니 온 천하에 예루살렘에서 일어난 일 같은 것이 없나이다

단9:13 모세의 율법에 기록된 대로 이 모든 재앙이 이미 우리에게 내렸사오나 우리는 우리의 죄악을 떠나고 주의 진리를 깨달아 우리 하나님 여호와의 얼굴을 기쁘게 하지 아니하였나이다

단9:14 그러므로 여호와께서 이 재앙을 간직하여 두셨다가 우리에게 내리게 하셨사오니 우리의 하나님 여호와께서 행하시는 모든 일이 공의로우시나 우리가 그 목소리를 듣지 아니하였음이니이다

단9:15 강한 손으로 주의 백성을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내시고 오늘과 같이 명성을 얻으신 우리 주 하나님이여 우리는 범죄하였고 악을 행하였나이다

단9:16 주여 구하옵나니 주는 주의 공의를 따라 주의 분노를 주의 성 예루살렘, 주의 거룩한 산에서 떠나게 하옵소서 이는 우리의 죄와 우리 조상들의 죄악으로 말미암아 예루살렘과 주의 백성이 사면에 있는 자들에게 수치를 당함이니이다

단9:17 그러하온즉 우리 하나님이여 지금 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 주를 위하여 주의 얼굴빛을 주의 황폐한 성소에 비추시옵소서

단9:18 나의 하나님이여 귀를 기울여 들으시며 눈을 떠서 우리의 황폐한 상황과 주의 이름으로 일컫는 성을 보옵소서 우리가 주 앞에 간구하옵는 것은 우리의 공의를 의지하여 하는 것이 아니요 주의 큰 긍휼을 의지하여 함이니이다

단9:19 주여 들으소서 주여 용서하소서 주여 귀를 기울이시고 행하소서 지체하지 마옵소서 나의 하나님이여 주 자신을 위하여 하시옵소서 이는 주의 성과 주의 백성이 주의 이름으로 일컫는 바 됨이니이다

단9:20 내가 이같이 말하여 기도하며 내 죄와 내 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 자복하고 내 하나님의 거룩한 산을 위하여 내 하나님 여호와 앞에 간구할 때

단9:21 곧 내가 기도할 때에 이전에 환상 중에 본 그 사람 가브리엘이 빨리 날아서 저녁 제사를 드릴 때 즈음에 내게 이르더니

단9:22 내게 가르치며 내게 말하여 이르되 다니엘아 내가 이제 네게 지혜와 총명을 주려고 왔느니라 하니라

단9:23 곧 네가 기도를 시작할 즈음에 명령이 내렸으므로 이제 네게 알리러 왔느니라 너는 크게 은총을 입은 자라 그런즉 너는 이 일을 생각하고 그 환상을 깨달을지니라

단9:24 네 백성과 네 거룩한 성을 위하여 일흔 이레를 기한으로 정하였나니 허물이 그치며 죄가 끝나며 죄악이 용서되며 영원한 의가 드러나며 환상과 예언이 응하며 또 지극히 거룩한 이가 기름 부음을 받으리라

단9:25 그러므로 너는 깨달아 알지니라 예루살렘을 중건하라는 영이 날 때부터 기름 부음을 받은 자 곧 왕이 일어나기까지 일곱 이레와 예순두 이레가 지날 것이요 그 곤란한 동안에 성이 중건되어 광장과 거리가 세워질 것이며

단9:26 예순두 이레 후에 기름 부음을 받은 자가 끊어져 없어질 것이며 장차 한 왕의 백성이 와서 그 성읍과 성소를 무너뜨리려니와 그의 마지막은 홍수에 휩쓸림 같을 것이며 또 끝까지 전쟁이 있으리니 황폐할 것이 작정되었느니라

단9:27 그가 장차 많은 사람들과 더불어 한 이레 동안의 언약을 굳게 맺고 그가 그 이레의 절반에 제사와 예물을 금지할 것이며 또 포악하여 가증한 것이 날개를 의지하여 설 것이며 또 이미 정한 종말까지 진노가 황폐하게 하는 자에게 쏟아지리라 하였느니라 하니라

시편 117 장.

시117:1 너희 모든 나라들아 여호와를 찬양하며 너희 모든 백성들아 그를 찬송할지어다

시117:2 우리에게 향하신 여호와의 인자하심이 크시고 여호와의 진실하심이 영원함이로다 할렐루야

시편 118 장.

시118:1 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그의 인자하심이 영원함이로다

시118:2 이제 이스라엘은 말나기를 그의 인자하심이 영원하다 할지로다

시118:3 이제 아론의 집은 말하기를 그의 인자하심이 영원하다 할지로다

시118:4 이제 여호와를 경외하는 자는 말하기를 그의 인자하심이 영원하다 할지로다

시118:5 내가 고통 중에 여호와께 부르짖었더니 여호와께서 응답하시고 나를 넓은 곳에 세우셨도다

시118:6 여호와는 내 편이시라 내가 두려워하지 아니하리니 사람이 내게 어찌할까

시118:7 여호와께서 내 편이 되사 나를 돕는 자들 중에 계시니 그러므로 나를 미워하는 자들에게 보응하시는 것을 내가 보리로다

시118:8 여호와께 피하는 것이 사람을 신뢰하는 것보다 나으며

시118:9 여호와께 피하는 것이 고관들을 신뢰하는 것보다 낫도다

시118:10 뭇 나라가 나를 에워쌌으니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 그들을 끊으리로다

시118:11 그들이 나를 에워싸고 에워쌌으니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 그들을 끊으리로다

시118:12 그들이 벌들처럼 나를 에워쌌으나 가시덤불의 불 같이 타 없어졌나니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 그들을 끊으리로다

시118:13 너는 나를 밀쳐 넘어뜨리려 하였으나 여호와께서는 나를 도우셨도다

시118:14 여호와는 나의 능력과 찬송이시요 또 나의 구원이 되셨도다

시118:15 의인들의 장막에는 기쁜 소리, 구원의 소리가 있음이여 여호와의 오른손이 권능을 베푸시며

시118:16 여호와의 오른손이 높이 들렸으며 여호와의 오른손이 권능을 베푸시는도다

시118:17 내가 죽지 않고 살아서 여호와께서 하시는 일을 선포하리로다

시118:18 여호와께서 나를 심히 경책하셨어도 죽음에는 넘기지 아니하셨도다

시118:19 내게 의의 문들을 열지어다 내가 그리로 들어가서 여호와께 감사하리로다

시118:20 이는 여호와의 문이라 의인들이 그리로 들어가리로다

시118:21 주께서 내게 응답하시고 나의 구원이 되셨으니 내가 주께 감사하리이다

시118:22 건축자가 버린 돌이 집 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되었나니

시118:23 이는 여호와께서 행하신 것이요 우리 눈에 기이한 바로다

시118:24 이 날은 여호와께서 정하신 것이라 이 날에 우리가 즐거워하고 기뻐하리로다

시118:25 여호와 구하옵나니 이제 구원하소서 여호와여 우리가 구하옵나니 이제 형통하게 하소서

시118:26 여호와의 이름으로 오는 자가 복이 있음이여 우리가 여호와의 집에서 너희를 축복하였도다

시118:27 여호와는 하나님이시라 그가 우리에게 빛을 비추셨으니 밧줄로 절기 제물을 제단 뿔에 맬지어다

시118:28 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 주께 감사하리이다 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 주를 높이리이다

시118:29 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그의 인자하심이 영원함이로다

2 Kings 5.

5:1 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

5:2 Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman's wife.

5:3 She said to her mistress, "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy."

5:4 Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said.

5:5 "By all means, go," the king of Aram replied. "I will send a letter to the king of Israel." So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothing.

5:6 The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: "With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy."

5:7 As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, "Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!"

5:8 When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him this message: "Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel."

5:9 So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.

5:10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, "Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed."

5:11 But Naaman went away angry and said, "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.

5:12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn't I wash in them and be cleansed?" So he turned and went off in a rage.

5:13 Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!"

5:14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

5:15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. Please accept now a gift from your servant."

5:16 The prophet answered, "As surely as the LORD lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing." And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.

5:17 "If you will not," said Naaman, "please let me, your servant, be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.

5:18 But may the LORD forgive your servant for this one thing: When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning on my arm and I bow there also--when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the LORD forgive your servant for this."

5:19 "Go in peace," Elisha said. After Naaman had traveled some distance,

5:20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, "My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him."

5:21 So Gehazi hurried after Naaman. When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him. "Is everything all right?" he asked.

5:22 "Everything is all right," Gehazi answered. "My master sent me to say, 'Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.'"

5:23 "By all means, take two talents," said Naaman. He urged Gehazi to accept them, and then tied up the two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing. He gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them ahead of Gehazi.

5:24 When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the things from the servants and put them away in the house. He sent the men away and they left.

5:25 Then he went in and stood before his master Elisha. "Where have you been, Gehazi?" Elisha asked. "Your servant didn't go anywhere," Gehazi answered.

5:26 But Elisha said to him, "Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money, or to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, flocks, herds, or menservants and maidservants?

5:27 Naaman's leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever." Then Gehazi went from Elisha's presence and he was leprous, as white as snow.

1 Timothy 2.

2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--

2:2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

2:3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

2:4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

2:6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.

2:7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

2:8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.

2:9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

2:10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

2:11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.

2:12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

2:13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

2:15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Daniel 9.

9:1 In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian kingdom--

9:2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.

9:3 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.

9:4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands,

9:5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.

9:6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

9:7 "Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame--the men of Judah and people of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you.

9:8 O LORD, we and our kings, our princes and our fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against you.

9:9 The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;

9:10 we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets.

9:11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you. "Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against you.

9:12 You have fulfilled the words spoken against us and against our rulers by bringing upon us great disaster. Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem.

9:13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth.

9:14 The LORD did not hesitate to bring the disaster upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him.

9:15 "Now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of Egypt with a mighty hand and who made for yourself a name that endures to this day, we have sinned, we have done wrong.

9:16 O Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, turn away your anger and your wrath from Jerusalem, your city, your holy hill. Our sins and the iniquities of our fathers have made Jerusalem and your people an object of scorn to all those around us.

9:17 "Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary.

9:18 Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.

9:19 O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name."

9:20 While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill--

9:21 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.

9:22 He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.

9:23 As soon as you began to pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the message and understand the vision:

9:24 "Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.

9:25 "Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven 'sevens,' and sixty-two 'sevens.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble.

9:26 After the sixty-two 'sevens,' the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.

9:27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."

Psalms 117.

117:1 Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples.

117:2 For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

Psalms 118.

118:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

118:2 Let Israel say: "His love endures forever."

118:3 Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever."

118:4 Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever."

118:5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free.

118:6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

118:7 The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

118:8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

118:9 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

118:10 All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

118:11 They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

118:12 They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

118:13 I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me.

118:14 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

118:15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD'S right hand has done mighty things!

118:16 The LORD'S right hand is lifted high; the LORD'S right hand has done mighty things!"

118:17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.

118:18 The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death.

118:19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD.

118:20 This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter.

118:21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.

118:22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;

118:23 the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

118:24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

118:25 O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success.

118:26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you.

118:27 The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar.

118:28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you.

118:29 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
