역대상 7 장.

대상7:1 잇사갈의 아들들은 돌라와 부아와 야숩과 시므론 네 사람이며

대상7:2 돌라의 아들들은 웃시와 르바야와 여리엘과 야매와 입삼과 스므엘이니 다 그의 아버지 돌라의 집 우두머리라 대대로 용사이더니 다윗 때에 이르러는 그 수효가 이만 이천 육백 명이었더라

대상7:3 웃시의 아들은 이스라히야요 이스라히야의 아들들은 미가엘과 오바댜와 요엘과 잇시야 다섯 사람이 모두 우두머리며

대상7:4 그들과 함께 있는 자는 그 계보와 종족대로 능히 출전할 만한 군대가 삼만 육천 명이니 이는 그 처자가 많기 때문이며

대상7:5 그의 형제 잇사갈의 모든 종족은 다 용감한 장사라 그 전체를 계수하면 팔만 칠천 명이었더라

대상7:6 베냐민의 아들들은 벨라와 베겔과 여디아엘 세 사람이며

대상7:7 벨라의 아들들은 에스본과 우시와 웃시엘과 여리못과 이리 다섯 사람이니 다 그 집의 우두머리요 큰 용사라 그 계보대로 계수하면 이만 이천삼십사 명이며

대상7:8 베겔의 아들들은 스미라와 요아스와 엘리에셀과 엘료에내와 오므리와 여레못과 아비야와 아나돗과 알레멧이니 베겔의 아들들은 모두 이러하며

대상7:9 그들은 다 그 집의 우두머리요 용감한 장사라 그 자손을 계보에 의해 계수하면 이만 이백 명이며

대상7:10 여디아엘의 아들은 빌한이요 빌한의 아들들은 여우스와 베냐민과 에훗과 그나아나와 세단과 다시스와 아히사할이니

대상7:11 이 여디아엘의 아들들은 모두 그 집의 우두머리요 큰 용사라 그들의 자손 중에 능히 출전할 만한 자가 만 칠천이백 명이며

대상7:12 일의 아들은 숩빔과 훕빔이요 아헬의 아들은 후심이더라

대상7:13 납달리의 아들들은 야시엘과 누니와 예셀과 살룸이니 이는 빌하의 손자더라

대상7:14 므낫세의 아들들은 그의 아내가 낳아 준 아스리엘과 그의 소실 아람 여인이 낳아 준 길르앗의 아버지 마길이며

대상7:15 마길은 훕빔과 숩빔의 누이 마아가라 하는 이에게 장가 들었더라 므낫세의 둘째 아들의 이름은 슬로브핫이니 슬로브핫은 딸들만 낳았으며

대상7:16 마길의 아내 마아가는 아들을 낳아 그의 이름을 베레스라 하였으며 그의 아우의 이름은 세레스이며 세레스의 아들들은 울람과 라겜이요

대상7:17 울람의 아들들은 브단이니 이는 다 길르앗의 자손이라 길르앗은 마길의 아들이요 므낫세의 손자이며

대상7:18 그의 누이 함몰레겟은 이스훗과 아비에셀과 말라를 낳았고

대상7:19 스미다의 아들들은 자히안과 세겜과 릭히와 아니암이더라

대상7:20 에브라임의 아들은 수델라요 그의 아들은 베렛이요 그의 아들은 다핫이요 그의 아들은 엘르아다요 그의 아들은 다핫이요

대상7:21 그의 아들은 사밧이요 그의 아들은 수델라며 그가 또 에셀과 엘르앗을 낳았으나 그들이 가드 원주민에게 죽임을 당하였으니 이는 그들이 내려가서 가드 사람의 짐승을 빼앗고자 하였음이라

대상7:22 그의 아버지 에브라임이 여러 날 슬퍼하므로 그의 형제가 가서 위로하였더라

대상7:23 그리고 에브라임이 그의 아내와 동침하매 임신하여 아들을 낳으니 그 집이 재앙을 받았으므로 그의 이름을 브리아라 하였더라

대상7:24 에브라임의 딸은 세에라이니 그가 아래 윗 성 벧호론과 우센세에라를 건설하였더라

대상7:25 브리아의 아들들은 레바와 레셉이요 레셉의 아들은 델라요 그의 아들은 다한이요

대상7:26 그의 아들은 라단이요 그의 아들은 암미훗이요 그의 아들은 엘리사마요

대상7:27 그의 아들은 눈이요 그의 아들은 여호수아더라

대상7:28 에브라임 자손의 토지와 거주지는 벧엘과 그 주변 마을이요 동쪽으로는 나아란이요 서쪽에는 게셀과 그 주변 마을이며 또 세겜과 그 주변 마을이니 아사와 그 주변 마을까지이며

대상7:29 또 므낫세 자손의 지계에 가까운 벧스안과 그 주변 마을과 다아낙과 그 주변 마을과 므깃도와 그 주변 마을과 돌과 그 주변 마을이라 이스라엘의 아들 요셉의 자손이 이 여러 곳에 거하였더라

대상7:30 아셀의 아들들은 임나와 이스와와 이스위와 브리아요 그들의 매제는 세라이며

대상7:31 브리아의 아들들은 헤벨과 말기엘이니 말기엘은 비르사잇의 아버지이며

대상7:32 헤벨은 야블렛과 소멜과 호담과 그들의 매제 수아를 낳았으며

대상7:33 야블렛의 아들들은 바삭과 빔할과 아스왓이니 야블렛의 아들은 이러하며

대상7:34 소멜의 아들들은 아히와 로가와 호바와 아람이요

대상7:35 그의 아우 헬렘의 아들들은 소바와 임나와 셀레스와 아말이요

대상7:36 소바의 아들들은 수아와 하르네벨과 수알과 베리와 이므라와

대상7:37 베셀과 훗과 사마와 실사와 이드란과 브에라요

대상7:38 예델의 아들들은 여분네와 비스바와 아라요

대상7:39 울라의 아들들은 아라와 한니엘과 리시아이니

대상7:40 이는 다 아셀의 자손으로 우두머리요 정선된 용감한 장사요 방백의 우두머리라 출전할 만한 자를 그들의 계보대로 계수 하면 이만 육천 명이었더라

역대상 8 장.

대상8:1 베냐민이 낳은 자는 맏아들 벨라와 둘째 아스벨과 셋째 아하라와

대상8:2 넷째 노하와 다섯째 라바이며

대상8:3 벨라에게 아들들이 있으니 곧 앗달과 게라와 아비훗과

대상8:4 아비수아와 나아만과 아호아와

대상8:5 게라와 스부반과 후람이라

대상8:6 에훗의 아들들은 이러하니라 그들은 게바 주민의 우두머리로서 그들을 사로잡아 마나핫으로 갔으니

대상8:7 곧 나아만과 아히야와 게라이며 게라는 또 웃사와 아히훗을 낳았으며

대상8:8 사하라임은 두 아내 후심과 바아라를 내 보낸 후에 모압 땅에서 자녀를 낳았으니

대상8:9 그의 아내 호데스에게서 낳은 자는 요밥과 시비야와 메사와 말감과

대상8:10 여우스와 사갸와 미르마이니 이 아들들은 우두머리이며

대상8:11 또 그의 아내 후심에게서 아비둡과 엘바알을 낳았으며

대상8:12 엘바알의 아들들은 에벨과 미삼과 세멧이니 그는 오노와 롯과 그 주변 마을들을 세웠고

대상8:13 또 브리아와 세마이니 그들은 아얄론 주민의 우두머리가 되어 그들이 가드 주민을 쫓아냈더라

대상8:14 아히요와 사삭과 여레못과

대상8:15 스바댜와 아랏과 에델과

대상8:16 미가엘과 이스바와 요하는 다 브리아의 아들들이요

대상8:17 스바댜와 므술람과 히스기와 헤벨과

대상8:18 이스므래와 이슬리아와 요밥은 다 엘바알의 아들들이요

대상8:19 야김과 시그리와 삽디와

대상8:20 엘리에내와 실르대와 엘리엘과

대상8:21 아다야와 브라야와 시므랏은 다 시므이의 아들들이요

대상8:22 이스반과 에벨과 엘리엘과

대상8:23 압돈과 시그리와 하난과

대상8:24 하나냐와 엘람과 안도디야와

대상8:25 이브드야와 브누엘은 다 사삭의 아들들이요

대상8:26 삼스래와 스하랴와 아달랴와

대상8:27 야아레시야와 엘리야와 시그리는 다 여로함의 아들들이니

대상8:28 그들은 다 가문의 우두머리이며 그들의 족보의 우두머리로서 예루살렘에 거주하였더라

대상8:29 기브온의 조상 여이엘은 기브온에 거주하였으니 그 아내의 이름은 마아가며

대상8:30 장자는 압돈이요 다음은 술과 기스와 바알과 나답과

대상8:31 그돌과 아히오와 세겔이며

대상8:32 미글롯은 시므아를 낳았으며 그들은 친족들과 더불어 마주하고 예루살렘에 거주하였더라

대상8:33 넬은 기스를 낳고 기스는 사울을 낳고 사울은 요나단과 말기수아와 아비나답과 에스바알을 낳았으며

대상8:34 요나단의 아들은 므립바알이라 므립바알은 미가를 낳았고

대상8:35 미가의 아들들은 비돈과 멜렉과 다레아와 아하스이며

대상8:36 아하스는 여호앗다를 낳고 여호앗다는 알레멧과 아스마웻과 시므리를 낳고 시므리는 모사를 낳고

대상8:37 모사는 비느아를 낳았으며 비느아의 아들은 라바요 그의 아들은 엘르아사요 그의 아들은 아셀이며

대상8:38 아셀에게 여섯 아들이 있어 그들의 이름은 이러하니 아스리감과 보그루와 이스마엘과 스아랴와 오바댜와 하난이라 아셀의 모든 아들이 이러하며

대상8:39 그의 아우 에섹의 아들은 이러하니 그의 맏아들은 울람이요 둘째는 여우스요 셋째는 엘리벨렛이며

대상8:40 울람의 아들은 다 용감한 장사요 활을 잘 쏘는 자라 아들과 손자가 많아 모두 백오십 명이었더라 베냐민의 자손들은 이러하였더라

히브리서 11 장.

히11:1 믿음은 바라는 것들의 실상이요 보지 못하는 것들의 증언니

히11:2 선진들이 이로써 증거를 얻었으니라

히11:3 믿음으로 모든 세계가 하나님의 말씀으로 지어진 줄을 우리가 아나니 보이는 것은 나타난 것으로 말미암아 된 것이 아니니라

히11:4 믿음으로 아벨은 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께 드림으로 의로운 자라 하시는 증거를 얻었으니 하나님이 그 예물에 대하여 증언하심이라 그가 죽었으나 그 믿음으로써 지금도 말하느니라

히11:5 믿음으로 에녹은 죽음을 보지 않고 옮겨졌으니 하나님이 그를 옮기심으로 다시 보이지 아니하였느니라 그는 옮겨지기 전에 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 자라 하는 증거를 받았느니라

히11:6 믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 못하나니 하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라

히11:7 믿음으로 노아는 아직 보이지 않는 일에 경고하심을 받아 경외함으로 방주를 준비하여 그 집을 구원하였으니 이로 말미암아 세상을 정죄하고 믿음을 따르는 의의 상속자가 되었느니라

히11:8 믿음으로 아브라함은 부르심을 받았을 때에 순종하여 장래의 유업으로 받을 땅에 나아갈새 갈 바를 알지 못하고 나아갔으며

히11:9 믿음으로 그가 이방의 땅에 있는 것 같이 약속의 땅에 거류하여 동일한 약속을 유업으로 함께 받은 이삭과 야곱과 더불어 장막에 거하였으니

히11:10 이는 그가 하나님이 계획하시고 지으실 터가 있는 성을 바랐음이라

히11:11 믿음으로 사라 자신도 나이가 많아 단산하였으나 잉태할 수 있는 힘을 얻었으니 이는 약속하신 이를 미쁘신 줄 알았음이라

히11:12 이러므로 죽은 자와 같은 한 사람으로 말미암아 하늘의 허다한 별과 또 해변의 무수한 모래와 같이 많은 후손이 생육하였느니라

히11:13 이 사람들은 다 믿음을 따라 죽었으며 약속을 받지 못하였으되 그것들을 멀리서 보고 환영하며 또 땅에서는 외국인과 나그네임을 증언하였으니

히11:14 그들이 이같이 말하는 것은 자기들이 본향 찾는 자임을 나타냄이라

히11:15 그들이 나온 바 본향을 생각하였더라면 돌아갈 기회가 있었으려니와

히11:16 그들이 이제는 더 나은 본향을 사모하니 곧 하늘에 있는 것이라 이러므로 하나님이 그들의 하나님이라 일컬음 받으심을 부끄러워하지 아니하시고 그들을 위하여 한 성을 예비하셨느니라

히11:17 아브라함은 시험을 받을 때에 믿음으로 이삭을 드렸으니 그는 약속들을 받은 자로되 그 외아들을 드렸느니라

히11:18 그에게 이미 말씀하시기를 네 자손이라 칭할 자는 이삭으로 말미암으리라 하셨으니

히11:19 그가 하나님이 능히 이삭을 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리실 줄로 생각한지라 비유컨대 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 도로 받은 것이니라

히11:20 믿음으로 이삭은 장차 있을 일에 대하여 야곱과 에서에게 축복하였으며

히11:21 믿음으로 야곱은 죽을 때에 요셉의 각 아들에게 축복하고 그 지팡이 머리에 의지하여 경배하였으며

히11:22 믿음으로 요셉은 임종시에 이스라엘 자손들이 떠날 것을 말하고 또 자기 뼈를 위하여 명하였으며

히11:23 믿음으로 모세가 났을 때에 그 부모가 아름다운 아이임을 보고 석 달 동안 숨겨 왕의 명령을 무서워 아니하였으며

히11:24 믿음으로 모세는 장성하여 바로의 공주의 아들이라 칭함 받기를 거절하고

히11:25 도리어 하나님의 백성과 함께 고난 받기를 잠시 죄악의 낙을 누리는 것보다 더 좋아하고

히11:26 그리스도를 위하여 받는 수모를 애굽의 모든 보화보다 더 큰 재물로 여겼으니 이는 상 주심을 바라봄이라

히11:27 믿음으로 애굽을 떠나 왕의 노함을 무서워하지 아니하고 곧 보이지 아니하는 자를 보는 것같이 하여 참았으며

히11:28 믿음으로 유월절과 피 뿌리는 예를 정하였으니 이는 장자를 멸하는 자로 그들을 건드리지 않게 하려 한 것이며

히11:29 믿음으로 그들은 홍해를 육지 같이 건넜으나 애굽 사람들은 이것을 시험하다가 빠져 죽었으며

히11:30 믿음으로 칠 일 동안 여리고를 도니 성이 무너졌으며

히11:31 믿음으로 기생 라합은 정탐꾼을 평안히 영접하였으므로 순종하지 아니한 자와 함께 멸망하지 아니하였도다

히11:32 내가 무슨 말을 더 하리요 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗 및 사무엘과 선지자들의 일을 말하려면 내게 시간이 부족하리로다

히11:33 그들은 믿음으로 나라들을 이기기도 하며 의를 행하기도 하며 약속을 받기도 하며 사자들의 입을 막기도 하며

히11:34 불의 세력을 멸하기도 하며 칼날을 피하기도 하며 연약한 가운데서 강하게 되기도 하며 전쟁에 용감하게 되어 이방 사람들의 진을 물리치기도 하며

히11:35 여자들은 자기의 죽은 자들을 부활로 받아들이기도 하며 또 어떤 이들은 더 좋은 부활을 얻고자 하여 심한 고문을 받되 구차히 풀려나기를 원하지 아니하였으며

히11:36 또 어떤 이들은 조롱과 채찍질뿐 아니라 결박과 옥에 갇히는 시험도 받았으며

히11:37 돌로 치는 것과 톱으로 켜는 것과 시험과 칼로 죽임을 당하고 양과 염소의 가죽을 입고 유리하여 궁핍과 환난과 학대를 받았으니

히11:38 (이런 사람은 세상이 감당하지 못하느니라)그들이 광야와 산과 동굴과 토굴에 유리하였느니라

히11:39 이 사람들은 다 믿음으로 말미암아 증거을 받았으나 약속된 것을 받지 못하였으니

히11:40 이는 하나님이 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 것을 예비하셨은즉 우리가 아니면 그들로 온전함을 이루지 못하게 하려 하심이라

아모스 5 장.

암5:1 이스라엘 족속아 내가 너희에게 대하여 애가로 지은 이 말을 들으라

암5:2 처녀 이스라엘이 엎드러졌음이여 다시 일어나지 못하리로다 자기 땅에 던지움이여 일으킬 자 없으리로다

암5:3 주 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 이스라엘 중에서 천 명이 행군해 나가던 성읍에는 백 명만 남고 백 명이 행군해 나가던 성읍에는 열 명만 남으리라 하셨느니라

암5:4 여호와께서 이스라엘 족속에게 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 너희는 나를 찾으라 그리하면 살리라

암5:5 벧엘을 찾지 말며 길갈로 들어가지 말며 브엘세바로도 나아가지 말라 길갈은 반드시 사로잡히겠고 벧엘은 비참하게 될 것임이라 하셨나니

암5:6 너희는 여호와를 찾으라 그리하면 살리라 그렇지 않으면 그가 불 같이 요셉의 집에 임하여 멸하시리니 벧엘에서 그 불들을 끌 자가 없으리라

암5:7 정의를 쓴 쑥으로 바꾸며 공의를 땅에 던지는 자들아

암5:8 묘성과 삼성을 만드시며 사망의 그늘을 아침으로 바꾸시고 낮을 어두운 밤으로 바꾸시며 바닷물을 불러 지면에 쏟으시는 이를 찾으라 그의 이름은 여호와시니라

암5:9 그가 강한 자에게 갑자기 패망이 이르게 하신즉 그 패망이 산성에 미치느니라

암5:10 무리가 성문에서 책망하는 자를 미워하며 정직히 말하는 자를 싫어하는도다

암5:11 너희가 힘없는 자를 밟고 그에게서 밀의 부당한 세를 거두었은즉 너희가 비록 다듬은 돌로 집을 건축하였으나 거기 거주하지 못할 것이요 아름다운 포도원을 가꾸었으나 그 포도주를 마시지 못하리라

암5:12 너희의 허물이 많고 죄악이 무거움을 내가 아노라 너희는 의인을 학대하며 뇌물을 받고 성문에서 가난한 자를 억울하게 하는 자로다

암5:13 그러므로 이런 때에 지혜자가 잠잠하나니 이는 악한 때임이니라

암5:14 너희는 살려면 선을 구하고 악을 구하지 말지어다 만군의 하나님 여호와께서 너희의 말과 같이 너희와 함께 하시리라

암5:15 너희는 악을 미워하고 선을 사랑하며 성문에서 정의를 세울지어다 만군의 하나님 여호와께서 혹시 요셉의 남은 자를 불쌍히 여기시리라

암5:16 그러므로 주 만군의 하나님 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 사람이 모든 광장에서 울겠고 모든 거리에서 슬프도다 슬프도다 하겠으며 농부를 불러다가 애곡하게 하며 울음꾼을 불러다가 울게 할 것이며

암5:17 모든 포도원에서도 울리니 이는 내가 너희 가운데로 지나갈 것임이라 여호와의 말씀이니라

암5:18 화 있을진저 여호와의 날을 사모하는 자여 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 날을 사모하느냐 그 날은 어둠이요 빛이 아니라

암5:19 마치 사람이 사자를 피하다가 곰을 만나거나 혹은 집에 들어가서 손을 벽에 대었다가 뱀에게 물림 같도다

암5:20 여호와의 날은 빛 없는 어둠이 아니며 빛남 없는 캄캄함이 아니냐

암5:21 내가 너희 절기들을 미워하여 멸시하며 너희 성회들을 기뻐하지 아니하나니

암5:22 너희가 내게 번제나 소제를 드릴지라도 내가 받지 아니할 것이요 너희의 살진 희생의 화목제도 내가 돌아보지 아니하리라

암5:23 네 노랫소리를 내 앞에서 그칠지어다 네 비파 소리도 내가 듣지 아니하리라

암5:24 오직 정의를 물 같이, 공의를 마르지 않는 강 같이 흐르게 할지어다

암5:25 이스라엘 족속아 너희가 사십 년 동안 광야에서 희생과 소제물을 내게 드렸느냐

암5:26 너희가 너희 왕 식굿과 기윤과 너희 우상들과 너희가 너희를 위하여 만든 신들의 별 형상을 지고 가리라

암5:27 내가 너희를 다메섹 밖으로 사로잡혀 가게 하리라 그의 이름이 만군의 하나님이라 불리우는 여호와께서 말씀하셨느니라

누가복음 1 장 1-38.

눅1:1 우리 중에 이루어진 사실에 대하여

눅1:2 처음부터 목격자와 말씀의 일꾼 된 자들이 전하여 준 그대로 내력을 저술하려고 붓을 든 사람이 많은지라

눅1:3 그 모든 일을 근원부터 자세히 미루어 살핀 나도 데오빌로 각하에게 차례대로 써 보내는 것이 좋은 줄 알았노니

눅1:4 이는 각하가 알고 있는 바를 더 확실하게 하려 함이로다

눅1:5 유대 왕 헤롯 때에 아비야 반열에 제사장 한 사람이 있었으니 이름은 사가랴요 그 아내는 아론의 자손이니 이름은 엘리사벳이라

눅1:6 이 두 사람이 하나님 앞에 의인이니 주의 모든 계명과 규례대로 흠이 없이 행하더라

눅1:7 엘리사벳이 잉태를 못하므로 그들에게 자식이 없고 두 사람의 나이가 많더라

눅1:8 마침 사가랴가 그 반열의 차례대로 하나님 앞에서 제사장의 직무를 행할새

눅1:9 제사장의 전례를 따라 제비를 뽑아 주의 성전에 들어가 분향하고

눅1:10 모든 백성은 그 분향하는 시간에 밖에서 기도하더니

눅1:11 주의 사자가 그에게 나타나 향단 우편에 선지라

눅1:12 사가랴가 보고 놀라며 무서워하니

눅1:13 천사가 그에게 이르되 사가랴여 무서워하지 말라 너의 간구함이 들린지라 네 아내 엘리사벳이 네게 아들을 낳아 주리니 그 이름을 요한이라 하라

눅1:14 너도 기뻐하고 즐거워할 것이요 많은 사람도 그의 태어남을 기뻐하리니

눅1:15 이는 그가 주 앞에 큰 자가 되며 포도주나 독한 술을 마시지 아니하며 모태로부터 성령의 충만함을 받아

눅1:16 이스라엘 자손을 주 곧 그들의 하나님께로 많이 돌아오게 하겠음이라

눅1:17 그가 또 엘리야의 심령과 능력으로 주 앞에 먼저 와서 아버지의 마음을 자식에게, 거스르는 자를 의인의 슬기에 돌아오게 하고 주를 위하여 세운 백성을 예비하리라

눅1:18 사가랴가 천사에게 이르되 내가 이것을 어떻게 알리요 내가 늙고 아내도 나이가 많으니이다

눅1:19 천사가 대답하여 이르되 나는 하나님 앞에 서 있는 가브리엘이라 이 좋은 소식을 전하여 네게 말하라고 보내심을 받았노라

눅1:20 보라 이 일이 되는 날까지 네가 말 못하는 자가 되어 능히 말을 못하리니 이는 네가 내 말을 믿지 아니함이거니와 때가 이르면 내 말이 이루어지리라 하더라

눅1:21 백성들이 사가랴를 기다리며 그가 성전 안에서 지체함을 이상히 여기더라

눅1:22 그가 나와서 그들에게 말을 못하니 백성들이 그가 성전 안에서 환상을 본 줄 알았더라 그가 몸짓으로 뜻을 표시하며 그냥 말 못하는대로 있더니

눅1:23 그 직무의 날이 다 되매 집으로 돌아가니라

눅1:24 이후에 그의 아내 엘리사벳이 잉태하고 다섯 달 동안 숨어 있으며 이르되

눅1:25 주께서 나를 돌보시는 날에 사람들 앞에서 내 부끄러움을 없게 하시려고 이렇게 행하심이라 하더라

1 Chronicles 7.

7:1 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub and Shimron--four in all.

7:2 The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam and Samuel--heads of their families. During the reign of David, the descendants of Tola listed as fighting men in their genealogy numbered 22,600.

7:3 The son of Uzzi: Izrahiah. The sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel and Isshiah. All five of them were chiefs.

7:4 According to their family genealogy, they had 36,000 men ready for battle, for they had many wives and children.

7:5 The relatives who were fighting men belonging to all the clans of Issachar, as listed in their genealogy, were 87,000 in all.

7:6 Three sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker and Jediael.

7:7 The sons of Bela: Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth and Iri, heads of families--five in all. Their genealogical record listed 22,034 fighting men.

7:8 The sons of Beker: Zemirah, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jeremoth, Abijah, Anathoth and Alemeth. All these were the sons of Beker.

7:9 Their genealogical record listed the heads of families and 20,200 fighting men.

7:10 The son of Jediael: Bilhan. The sons of Bilhan: Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Kenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish and Ahishahar.

7:11 All these sons of Jediael were heads of families. There were 17,200 fighting men ready to go out to war.

7:12 The Shuppites and Huppites were the descendants of Ir, and the Hushites the descendants of Aher.

7:13 The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem--the descendants of Bilhah.

7:14 The descendants of Manasseh: Asriel was his descendant through his Aramean concubine. She gave birth to Makir the father of Gilead.

7:15 Makir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites. His sister's name was Maacah. Another descendant was named Zelophehad, who had only daughters.

7:16 Makir's wife Maacah gave birth to a son and named him Peresh. His brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

7:17 The son of Ulam: Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead son of Makir, the son of Manasseh.

7:18 His sister Hammoleketh gave birth to Ishhod, Abiezer and Mahlah.

7:19 The sons of Shemida were: Ahian, Shechem, Likhi and Aniam.

7:20 The descendants of Ephraim: Shuthelah, Bered his son, Tahath his son, Eleadah his son, Tahath his son,

7:21 Zabad his son and Shuthelah his son. Ezer and Elead were killed by the native-born men of Gath, when they went down to seize their livestock.

7:22 Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him.

7:23 Then he lay with his wife again, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. He named him Beriah, because there had been misfortune in his family.

7:24 His daughter was Sheerah, who built Lower and Upper Beth Horon as well as Uzzen Sheerah.

7:25 Rephah was his son, Resheph his son, Telah his son, Tahan his son,

7:26 Ladan his son, Ammihud his son, Elishama his son,

7:27 Nun his son and Joshua his son.

7:28 Their lands and settlements included Bethel and its surrounding villages, Naaran to the east, Gezer and its villages to the west, and Shechem and its villages all the way to Ayyah and its villages.

7:29 Along the borders of Manasseh were Beth Shan, Taanach, Megiddo and Dor, together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.

7:30 The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah. Their sister was Serah.

7:31 The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malkiel, who was the father of Birzaith.

7:32 Heber was the father of Japhlet, Shomer and Hotham and of their sister Shua.

7:33 The sons of Japhlet: Pasach, Bimhal and Ashvath. These were Japhlet's sons.

7:34 The sons of Shomer: Ahi, Rohgah, Hubbah and Aram.

7:35 The sons of his brother Helem: Zophah, Imna, Shelesh and Amal.

7:36 The sons of Zophah: Suah, Harnepher, Shual, Beri, Imrah,

7:37 Bezer, Hod, Shamma, Shilshah, Ithran and Beera.

7:38 The sons of Jether: Jephunneh, Pispah and Ara.

7:39 The sons of Ulla: Arah, Hanniel and Rizia.

7:40 All these were descendants of Asher--heads of families, choice men, brave warriors and outstanding leaders. The number of men ready for battle, as listed in their genealogy, was 26000.

1 Chronicles 8.

8:1 Benjamin was the father of Bela his firstborn, Ashbel the second son, Aharah the third,

8:2 Nohah the fourth and Rapha the fifth.

8:3 The sons of Bela were: Addar, Gera, Abihud,

8:4 Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,

8:5 Gera, Shephuphan and Huram.

8:6 These were the descendants of Ehud, who were heads of families of those living in Geba and were deported to Manahath:

8:7 Naaman, Ahijah, and Gera, who deported them and who was the father of Uzza and Ahihud.

8:8 Sons were born to Shaharaim in Moab after he had divorced his wives Hushim and Baara.

8:9 By his wife Hodesh he had Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcam,

8:10 Jeuz, Sakia and Mirmah. These were his sons, heads of families.

8:11 By Hushim he had Abitub and Elpaal.

8:12 The sons of Elpaal: Eber, Misham, Shemed (who built Ono and Lod with its surrounding villages),

8:13 and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.

8:14 Ahio, Shashak, Jeremoth,

8:15 Zebadiah, Arad, Eder,

8:16 Michael, Ishpah and Joha were the sons of Beriah.

8:17 Zebadiah, Meshullam, Hizki, Heber,

8:18 Ishmerai, Izliah and Jobab were the sons of Elpaal.

8:19 Jakim, Zicri, Zabdi,

8:20 Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel,

8:21 Adaiah, Beraiah and Shimrath were the sons of Shimei.

8:22 Ishpan, Eber, Eliel,

8:23 Abdon, Zicri, Hanan,

8:24 Hananiah, Elam, Anthothijah,

8:25 Iphdeiah and Penuel were the sons of Shashak.

8:26 Shamsherai, Shehariah, Athaliah,

8:27 Jaareshiah, Elijah and Zicri were the sons of Jeroham.

8:28 All these were heads of families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem.

8:29 Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife's name was Maacah,

8:30 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,

8:31 Gedor, Ahio, Zeker

8:32 and Mikloth, who was the father of Shimeah. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.

8:33 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.

8:34 The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah.

8:35 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tarea and Ahaz.

8:36 Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza.

8:37 Moza was the father of Binea; Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.

8:38 Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.

8:39 The sons of his brother Eshek: Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second son and Eliphelet the third.

8:40 The sons of Ulam were brave warriors who could handle the bow. They had many sons and grandsons--150 in all. All these were the descendants of Benjamin.

Hebrews 11.

11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

11:2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

11:4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.

11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

11:7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

11:8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

11:9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

11:10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

11:11 By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.

11:12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

11:13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.

11:14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.

11:15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.

11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

11:17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,

11:18 even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."

11:19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.

11:20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.

11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

11:22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions about his bones.

11:23 By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.

11:24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter.

11:25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.

11:26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

11:27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.

11:28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.

11:29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.

11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.

11:31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.

11:32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets,

11:33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,

11:34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.

11:35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.

11:36 Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison.

11:37 They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated--

11:38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.

11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.

11:40 God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Amos 5.

5:1 Hear this word, O house of Israel, this lament I take up concerning you:

5:2 "Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again, deserted in her own land, with no one to lift her up."

5:3 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "The city that marches out a thousand strong for Israel will have only a hundred left; the town that marches out a hundred strong will have only ten left."

5:4 This is what the LORD says to the house of Israel: "Seek me and live;

5:5 do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will be reduced to nothing."

5:6 Seek the LORD and live, or he will sweep through the house of Joseph like a fire; it will devour, and Bethel will have no one to quench it.

5:7 You who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground

5:8 (he who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns blackness into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land--the LORD is his name--

5:9 he flashes destruction on the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin),

5:10 you hate the one who reproves in court and despise him who tells the truth.

5:11 You trample on the poor and force him to give you grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.

5:12 For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. You oppress the righteous and take bribes and you deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

5:13 Therefore the prudent man keeps quiet in such times, for the times are evil.

5:14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.

5:15 Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.

5:16 Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD God Almighty, says: "There will be wailing in all the streets and cries of anguish in every public square. The farmers will be summoned to weep and the mourners to wail.

5:17 There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass through your midst," says the LORD.

5:18 Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light.

5:19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.

5:20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light--pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?

5:21 "I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies.

5:22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them.

5:23 Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.

5:24 But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

5:25 "Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?

5:26 You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols, the star of your god--which you made for yourselves.

5:27 Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus," says the LORD, whose name is God Almighty.

Luke 1 1-38.

1:1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,

1:2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

1:3 Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,

1:4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

1:5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron.

1:6 Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly.

1:7 But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years.

1:8 Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God,

1:9 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

1:10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

1:11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.

1:12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.

1:13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John.

1:14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,

1:15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.

1:16 Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.

1:17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

1:18 Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."

1:19 The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

1:20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time."

1:21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.

1:22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

1:23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home.

1:24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.

1:25 "The Lord has done this for me," she said. "In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people."

1:26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,

1:27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary.

1:28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

1:29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

1:30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.

1:31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.

1:32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,

1:33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

1:34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

1:36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.

1:37 For nothing is impossible with God."

1:38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.
