1 Chronicles 22.
22:1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel.
22:2 He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites.
22:3 The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.
22:4 David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand are to supervise the work of the temple of the LORD and six thousand are to be officials and judges.
22:5 Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the LORD with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose."
22:6 David divided the Levites into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
22:7 Belonging to the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
22:8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first, Zetham and Joel--three in all.
22:9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel and Haran--three in all. These were the heads of the families of Ladan.
22:10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Ziza, Jeush and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei--four in all.
22:11 Jahath was the first and Ziza the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; so they were counted as one family with one assignment.
22:12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel--four in all.
22:13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants forever, to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the LORD, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name forever.
22:14 The sons of Moses the man of God were counted as part of the tribe of Levi.
22:15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
22:16 The descendants of Gershom: Shubael was the first.
22:17 The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.
22:18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith was the first.
22:19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth.
22:20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first and Isshiah the second.
22:21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22:22 Eleazar died without having sons: he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.
22:23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth--three in all.
22:24 These were the descendants of Levi by their families--the heads of families as they were registered under their names and counted individually, that is, the workers twenty years old or more who served in the temple of the LORD.
22:25 For David had said, "Since the LORD, the God of Israel, has granted rest to his people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem forever,
22:26 the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service."
22:27 According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more.
22:28 The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron's descendants in the service of the temple of the LORD: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God.
22:29 They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the flour for the grain offerings, the unleavened wafers, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.
22:30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening
22:31 and whenever burnt offerings were presented to the LORD on Sabbaths and at New Moon festivals and at appointed feasts. They were to serve before the LORD regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them.
22:32 And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the Tent of Meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their brothers the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the LORD.
1 Peter 3.
3:1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,
3:2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.
3:3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.
3:4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
3:5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands,
3:6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.
3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
3:8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.
3:9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
3:10 For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
3:11 He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
3:13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened."
3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
3:16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
3:17 It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
3:19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison
3:20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,
3:21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
Micah 1.
1:1 The word of the LORD that came to Micah of Moresheth during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah--the vision he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
1:2 Hear, O peoples, all of you, listen, O earth and all who are in it, that the Sovereign LORD may witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.
1:3 Look! The LORD is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads the high places of the earth.
1:4 The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope.
1:5 All this is because of Jacob's transgression, because of the sins of the house of Israel. What is Jacob's transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah's high place? Is it not Jerusalem?
1:6 "Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of rubble, a place for planting vineyards. I will pour her stones into the valley and lay bare her foundations.
1:7 All her idols will be broken to pieces; all her temple gifts will be burned with fire; I will destroy all her images. Since she gathered her gifts from the wages of prostitutes, as the wages of prostitutes they will again be used."
1:8 Because of this I will weep and wail; I will go about barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and moan like an owl.
1:9 For her wound is incurable; it has come to Judah. It has reached the very gate of my people, even to Jerusalem itself.
1:10 Tell it not in Gath; weep not at all. In Beth Ophrah roll in the dust.
1:11 Pass on in nakedness and shame, you who live in Shaphir. Those who live in Zaanan will not come out. Beth Ezel is in mourning; its protection is taken from you.
1:12 Those who live in Maroth writhe in pain, waiting for relief, because disaster has come from the LORD, even to the gate of Jerusalem.
1:13 You who live in Lachish, harness the team to the chariot. You were the beginning of sin to the Daughter of Zion, for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.
1:14 Therefore you will give parting gifts to Moresheth Gath. The town of Aczib will prove deceptive to the kings of Israel.
1:15 I will bring a conqueror against you who live in Mareshah. He who is the glory of Israel will come to Adullam.
1:16 Shave your heads in mourning for the children in whom you delight; make yourselves as bald as the vulture, for they will go from you into exile.
Luke 10.
10:1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
10:2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
10:3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
10:4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
10:5 "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'
10:6 If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
10:7 Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
10:8 "When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you.
10:9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'
10:10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
10:11 'Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.'
10:12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
10:13 "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
10:14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
10:15 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.
10:16 "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."
10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."
10:18 He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
10:21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
10:22 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
10:23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
10:24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."
10:25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
10:26 "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"
10:27 He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
10:28 "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
10:29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
10:30 In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
10:31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
10:32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
10:33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
10:34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
10:35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
10:36 "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
10:37 The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
10:38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
10:39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
10:40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
10:41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things,
10:42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." LUK
