역대하 5 장.

대하5:1 솔로몬이 여호와의 전을 위하여 만드는 모든 일을 마친지라 이에 솔로몬이 그의 아버지 다윗이 드린 은과 금과 모든 기구를 가져다가 하나님의 전 곳간에 두었더라

대하5:2 이에 솔로몬이 여호와의 언약궤를 다윗 성 곧 시온에서부터 메어 올리고자 하여 이스라엘 장로들과 모든 지파의 우두머리 곧 이스라엘 자손의 족장들을 다 예루살렘으로 소집하니

대하5:3 일곱째 달 절기에 이스라엘 모든 사람이 다 왕에게로 모이고

대하5:4 이스라엘 장로들이 이르매 레위 사람들이 궤를 메니라

대하5:5 궤와 회막과 장막 안에 모든 거룩한 기구를 메고 올라가되 레위인 제사장들이 그것들을 메고 올라가매

대하5:6 솔로몬 왕과 그 앞에 모인 모든 이스라엘 회중이 궤 앞에서 양과 소로 제사를 드렸으니 그 수가 많아 기록할 수도 없고 셀 수도 없었더라

대하5:7 제사장들이 여호와의 언약궤를 그 처소로 메어 들였으니 곧 본 전 지성소 그룹들의 날개 아래라

대하5:8 그룹들이 궤 처소 위에서 날개를 펴서 궤와 그 채를 덮었는데

대하5:9 그 채가 길어서 궤에서 나오므로 그 끝이 본전 앞에서 보이나 밖에서는 보이지 아니하며 그 궤가 오늘까지 그 곳에 있으며

대하5:10 궤 안에는 두 돌판 외에 아무것도 없으니 이것은 이스라엘 자손이 애굽에서 나온 후 여호와께서 그들과 언약을 세우실 때에 모세가 호렙에서 그 안에 넣은 것이더라

대하5:11 이 때에는 제사장들이 그 반열대로 하지 아니하고 스스로 정결하게 하고 성소에 있다가 나오매

대하5:12 노래하는 레위 사람 아삽과 헤만과 여두둔과 그의 아들들과 형제들이 다 세마포를 입고 제단 동쪽에 서서 제금과 비파와 수금을 잡고 또 나팔 부는 제사장 백이십 명이 함께 서 있다가

대하5:13 나팔 부는 자와 노래하는 자들이 일제히 소리를 내어 여호와를 찬송하며 감사하는데 나팔 불고 제금 치고 모든 악기를 울리며 소리를 높여 여호와를 찬송하여 이르되 선하시도다 그의 자비하심이 영원히 있도다 하매 그 때에 여호와의 전에 구름이 가득한지라

대하5:14 제사장들이 그 구름으로 말미암아 능히 서서 섬기지 못하였으니 이는 여호와의 영광이 하나님의 전에 가득함이었더라

역대하 6 장 1-11.

대하6:1 그 때에 솔로몬이 이르되 여호와께서 캄캄한 데 계시겠다 말씀하였사오나

대하6:2 내가 주를 위하여 거하실 성전을 건축하였사오니 주께서 영원히 계실 처소로소이다 하고

대하6:3 얼굴을 돌려 이스라엘 온 회중을 위하여 축복하니 그 때에 이스라엘의 온 회중이 서 있더라

대하6:4 왕이 이르되 이스라엘 하나님 여화를 송축할지로다 여호와께서 그의 입으로 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하신 것을 이제 그의 손으로 이루셨도다 이르시기를

대하6:5 내가 내 백성을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 낸 날부터 내 이름을 둘만한 집을 건축하기 위하여 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데서 아무 성읍도 택하지 아니하였으며 내 백성 이스라엘의 주권자가 될 사람을 아무도 택하지 아니하였더니

대하6:6 예루살렘을 택하여 내 이름을 거기 두고 또 다윗을 택하여 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였노라 하신지라

대하6:7 내 아버지 다윗이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었더니

대하6:8 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다

대하6:9 그러나 너는 그 성전을 건축하지 못할 것이요 네 허리에서 나올 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하시더니

대하6:10 이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루셨도다 내가 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 내 아버지 다윗을 대신하여 일어나 이스라엘 왕위에 앉고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하고

대하6:11 내가 또 그 곳에 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손과 더불어 세우신 언약을 넣은 궤를 두었노라 하니라

요한일서 4 장.

요일4:1 사랑하는 자들아 영을 다 믿지 말고 오직 영들이 하나님께 속하였나 분별하라 많은 거짓 선지자가 세상에 나왔음이라

요일4:2 이로써 너희가 하나님의 영을 알지니 곧 예수 그리스도께서 육체로 오신 것을 시인하는 영마다 하나님께 속한 것이요

요일4:3 예수를 시인하지 아니하는 영마다 하나님께 속한 것이 아니니 이것이 곧 적그리스도의 영이니라 오리라 한 말을 너희가 들었거니와 지금 벌써 세상에 있느니라

요일4:4 자녀들아 너희는 하나님께 속하였고 또 그들을 이기었나니 이는 너희 안에 계신 이가 세상에 있는 자보다 크심이라

요일4:5 그들은 세상에 속한 고로 세상에 속한 말을 하매 세상이 그들의 말을 듣느니라

요일4:6 우리는 하나님께 속하였으니 하나님을 아는 자는 우리의 말을 듣고 하나님께 속하지 아니한 자는 우리의 말을 듣지 아니하나니 진리의 영과 미혹의 영을 이로써 아느니라

요일4:7 사랑하는 자들아 우리가 서로 사랑하자 사랑은 하나님께 속한 것이니 사랑하는 자마다 하나님으로부터 나서 하나님을 알고

요일4:8 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 알지 못하나니 이는 하나님은 사랑이심이라

요일4:9 하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 이렇게 나타난 바 되었으니 하나님이 자기의 독생자를 세상에 보내심은 그로 말미암아 우리를 살리려 하심이라

요일4:10 사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목 제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라

요일4:11 사랑하는 자들아 하나님이 이같이 우리를 사랑하셨은즉 우리도 서로 사랑하는 것이 마땅하도다

요일4:12 어느 때나 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 만일 우리가 서로 사랑하면 하나님이 우리 안에 거하시고 그의 사랑이 우리 안에 온전히 이루어지느니라

요일4:13 그의 성령을 우리에게 주시므로 우리가 그 안에 거하고 그가 우리 안에 거하시는 줄을 아느니라

요일4:14 아버지가 아들을 세상의 구주로 보내신 것을 우리가 보았고 또 증언하노니

요일4:15 누구든지 예수를 하나님의 아들이라 시인하면 하나님이 그의 안에 거하시고 그도 하나님 안에 거하느니라

요일4:16 하나님이 우리를 사랑하시는 사랑을 우리가 알고 믿었노니 하나님은 사랑이시라 사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그의 안에 거하시느니라

요일4:17 이로써 사랑이 우리에게 온전히 이루어진 것은 우리로 심판 날에 담대함을 가지게 하려 함이니 주께서 그러하심과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하니라

요일4:18 사랑 안에 두려움이 없고 온전한 사랑이 두려움을 내쫓나니 두려움에는 형벌이 있음이라 두려워하는 자는 사랑 안에서 온전히 이루지 못하였느니라

요일4:19 우리가 사랑함은 그가 먼저 우리를 사랑하셨음이라

요일4:20 누구든지 하나님을 사랑하노라 하고 그 형제를 미워하면 이는 거짓말하는 자니 보는 바 그 형제를 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 보지 못하는 바 하나님을 사랑할 수 없느니라

요일4:21 우리가 이 계명을 주께 받았나니 하나님을 사랑하는 자는 또한 그 형제를 사랑할지니라

나훔 3 장.

나3:1 화 있을진저 피의 성이여 그 안에는 거짓이 가득하고 포악이 가득하며 탈취가 떠나지 아니하는도다

나3:2 휙휙 하는 채찍 소리, 윙윙 하는 병거 바퀴 소리, 뛰는 말, 달리는 병거,

나3:3 충돌하는 기병, 번쩍이는 칼, 번개 같은 창, 죽임 당한 자의 떼, 주검의 큰 무더기, 무수한 시체여 사람이 그 시체에 걸려 넘어지니

나3:4 이는 마술에 능숙한 미모의 음녀가 많은 음행을 함이라 그가 그의 음행으로 여러 나라를 미혹하고 그의 마술로 여러 족속을 미혹하느니라

나3:5 보라 내가 네게 말하노니 만군의 여호와의 말씀에 네 치마를 걷어 올려 네 얼굴에 이르게 하고 네 벌거벗은 것을 나라들에게 보이며 네 부끄러운 곳을 뭇 민족에게 보일 것이요

나3:6 내가 또 가증하고 더러운 것을 네 위에 던져 능욕하여 너를 구경거리가 되게 하리니

나3:7 그 때에 너를 보는 자가 다 네게서 도망하며 이르기를 니느웨가 황폐하였도다 누가 그것을 위하여 애곡하며 내가 어디서 너를 위로할 자를 구하리요 하리라

나3:8 네가 어찌 노아몬보다 낫겠느냐 그는 강들 사이에 있으므로 물이 둘렸으니 바다가 성루가 되었고 바다가 방어벽이 되었으며

나3:9 구스와 애굽은 그의 힘이 강하여 끝이 없었고 붓과 루빔이 그를 돕는 자가 되었으나

나3:10 그가 포로가 되어 사로잡혀 갔고 그의 어린 아이들은 길 모퉁이 모퉁이에 메어침을 당하여 부서졌으며 그의 존귀한 자들은 제비 뽑혀 나뉘었고 그의 모든 권세자들은 사슬에 결박되었나니

나3:11 너도 술에 취하여 숨으리라 너도 원수들 때문에 피난처를 찾으리라

나3:12 네 모든 산성은 무화과나무의 처음 익은 열매가 흔들기만 하면 먹는 자의 입에 떨어짐과 같으리라

나3:13 네 가운데 장정들은 여인 같고 네 땅의 성문들은 네 원수 앞에 넓게 열리고 빗장들은 불에 타도다

나3:14 너는 물을 길어 에워싸일 것을 대비하며 너의 산성들을 견고하게 하며 진흙에 들어가서 흙을 밟아 벽돌 가마를 수리하라

나3:15 거기서 불이 너를 삼키며 칼이 너를 베기를 느치가 먹는 것 같이 하리라 네가 느치 같이 스스로 많게 할지어다 네가 메뚜기 같이 스스로 많게 할지어다

나3:16 네가 네 상인을 하늘의 별보다 많게 하였으나 느치가 날개를 펴서 날아감과 같고

나3:17 네 방백은 메뚜기 같고 너의 장수들은 큰 메뚜기 떼가 추운 날에는 울타리에 깃들였다가 해가 뜨면 날아감과 같으니 그 있는 곳을 알 수 없도다

나3:18 앗수르 왕이여 네 목자가 자고 네 귀족은 누워 쉬며 네 백성은 산들에 흩어지나 그들을 모을 사람이 없도다

나3:19 네 상처는 고칠 수 없고 네 부상은 중하도다 네 소식을 듣는 자가 다 너를 보고 손뼉을 치나니 이는 그들이 항상 네게 행패를 당하였음이 아니더냐 하시니라

누가복음 19 장.

눅19:1 예수께서 여리고로 들어가 나가시더라

눅19:2 삭개오라 이름하는 자가 있으니 세리장이요 또한 부자라

눅19:3 그가 예수께서 어떠한 사람인가 하여 보고자 하되 키가 작고 사람이 많아 할 수 없어

눅19:4 앞으로 달려가서 보기 위하여 돌무화과나무에 올라가니 이는 예수께서 그리로 지나가시게 됨이러라

눅19:5 예수께서 그 곳에 이르사 쳐다보시고 이르시되 삭개오야 속히 내려오라 내가 오늘 네 집에 유하여야 하겠다 하시니

눅19:6 급히 내려와 즐거워하며 영접하거늘

눅19:7 뭇 사람이 보고 수군거려 이르되 저가 죄인의 집에 유하러 들어갔도다 하더라

눅19:8 삭개오가 서서 주께 여짜오되 주여 보시옵소서 내 소유의 절반을 가난한 자들에게 주겠사오며 만일 누구의 것을 빼앗은 일이 있으면 네 갑절이나 갚겠나이다

눅19:9 예수께서 이르시되 오늘 구원이 이 집에 이르렀으니 이 사람도 아브라함의 자손임이로다

눅19:10 인자가 온 것은 잃어버린 자를 찾아 구원하려 함이니라

눅19:11 그들이 이 말씀을 듣고 있을 때에 비유를 더하여 말씀하시니 이는 자기가 예루살렘에 가까이 오셨고 그들은 하나님의 나라가 당장에 나타날 줄로 생각함이더라

눅19:12 이르시되 어떤 귀인이 왕위를 받아가지고 오려고 먼 나라로 갈 때에

눅19:13 그 종 열을 불러 은화 열 므나를 주며 이르되 내가 돌아올 때까지 장사하라 하니라

눅19:14 그런데 그 백성이 그를 미워하여 사자를 뒤로 보내어 이르되 우리는 이 사람이 우리의 왕 됨을 원하지 아니하나이다 하였더라

눅19:15 귀인이 왕위를 받아가지고 돌아와서 은화를 준 종들이 각각 어떻게 장사하였는지를 알고자 하여 그들을 부르니

눅19:16 그 첫째가 나아와 이르되 주인이여 당신의 한 므나로 열 므나를 남겼나이다

눅19:17 주인이 이르되 잘하였다 착한 종이여 네가 지극히 작은 것에 충성하였으니 열 고을 권세를 차지하라 하고

눅19:18 그 둘째가 와서 이르되 주인이여 당신의 한 므나로 다섯 므나를 만들었나이다

눅19:19 주인이 그에게도 이르되 너도 다섯 고을을 차지하라 하고

눅19:20 또 한 사람이 와서 이르되 주인이여 보소서 당신의 한 므나가 여기 있나이다 내가 수건으로 싸 두었었나이다

눅19:21 이는 당신이 엄한 사람인 것을 내가 무서워함이라 당신은 두지 않은 것을 취하고 심지 않은 것을 거두나이다

눅19:22 주인이 이르되 악한 종아 내가 네 말로 너를 심판하노니 너는 내가 두지 않은 것을 취하고 심지 않은 것을 거두는 엄한 사람인 줄로 알았느냐

눅19:23 그러면 어찌하여 내 돈을 은행에 맡기지 아니하였느냐 그리하였으면 내가 와서 그 이자와 함께 그 돈을 찾았으리라 하고

눅19:24 곁에 섰는 자들에게 이르되 그 한 므나를 빼앗아 열 므나 있는 자에게 주라 하니

눅19:25 그들이 이르되 주여 그에게 이미 열 므나가 있나이다

눅19:26 주인이 이르되 내가 너희에게 말하노니 무릇 있는 자는 받겠고 없는 자는 그 있는 것도 빼앗기리라

눅19:27 그리고 내가 왕 됨을 원하지 아니하던 저 원수들을 이리로 끌어다가 내 앞에서 죽이라 하였느니라

눅19:28 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 예루살렘을 향하여 앞서서 가시더라

눅19:29 감람원이라 불리는 산쪽에 있는 벳바게와 베다니에 가까이 가셨을 때에 제자 중 둘을 보내시며

눅19:30 이르시되 너희는 맞은편 마을로 가라 그리로 들어가면 아직 아무도 타 보지 않은 나귀 새끼가 매여 있는 것을 보리니 풀어 끌고 오라

눅19:31 만일 누가 너희에게 어찌하여 푸느냐 묻거든 말하기를 주가 쓰시겠다 하라 하시매

눅19:32 보내심을 받은 자들이 가서 그 말씀하신 대로 만난지라

눅19:33 나귀 새끼를 풀 때에 그 임자들이 이르되 어찌하여 나귀 새끼를 푸느냐

눅19:34 대답하되 주께서 쓰시겠다 하고

눅19:35 그것을 예수께로 끌고 와서 자기들의 겉옷을 나귀 새끼 위에 걸쳐 놓고 예수를 태우니

눅19:36 가실 때에 그들이 자기의 겉옷을 길에 펴더라

눅19:37 이미 감람 산 내리막길에 가까이 오시매 제자의 온 무리가 자기들이 본 바 모든 능한 일로 인하여 기뻐하며 큰 소리로 하나님을 찬양하여

눅19:38 이르되 찬송하리로다 주의 이름으로 오시는 왕이여 하늘에는 평화요 가장 높은 곳에는 영광이로다 하니

눅19:39 무리 중 어떤 바리새인들이 말하되 선생이여 당신의 제자들을 책망하소서 하거늘

눅19:40 대답하여 이르시되 내가 너희에게 말하노니 만일 이 사람들이 침묵하면 돌들이 소리 지르리라 하시니라

눅19:41 가까이 오사 성을 보시고 우시며

눅19:42 이르시되 너도 오늘 평화에 관한 일을 알았더라면 좋을 뻔하였거니와 지금 네 눈에 숨겨졌도다

눅19:43 날이 이를지라 네 원수들이 토둔을 쌓고 너를 둘러 사면으로 가두고

눅19:44 또 너와 및 그 가운데 있는 네 자식들을 땅에 메어치며 돌 하나도 돌 위에 남기지 아니하리니 이는 네가 보살핌 받는 날을 알지 못함으로 인함이라 하시니라

눅19:45 성전에 들어가사 장사하는 자들을 내쫓으시며

눅19:46 그들에게 이르시되 기록된 바 내 집은 기도하는 집이 되리라 하였거늘 너희는 강도의 소굴을 만들었도다 하시니라

눅19:47 예수께서 날마다 성전에서 가르치시니 대제사장들과 서기관들과 백성의 지도자들이 그를 죽이려고 꾀하되

눅19:48 백성이 다 그에게 귀를 기울여 들으므로 어찌할 방도를 찾지 못하였더라

2 Chronicles 5.

5:1 When all the work Solomon had done for the temple of the LORD was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated--the silver and gold and all the furnishings--and he placed them in the treasuries of God's temple.

5:2 Then Solomon summoned to Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the LORD'S covenant from Zion, the City of David.

5:3 And all the men of Israel came together to the king at the time of the festival in the seventh month.

5:4 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the Levites took up the ark,

5:5 and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests, who were Levites, carried them up;

5:6 and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted.

5:7 The priests then brought the ark of the LORD'S covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim.

5:8 The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and covered the ark and its carrying poles.

5:9 These poles were so long that their ends, extending from the ark, could be seen from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today.

5:10 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.

5:11 The priests then withdrew from the Holy Place. All the priests who were there had consecrated themselves, regardless of their divisions.

5:12 All the Levites who were musicians--Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives--stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets.

5:13 The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,

5:14 and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.

2 Chronicles 6 1-11.

6:1 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;

6:2 I have built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever."

6:3 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them.

6:4 Then he said: "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David. For he said,

6:5 'Since the day I brought my people out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built for my Name to be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be the leader over my people Israel.

6:6 But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.'

6:7 "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

6:8 But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart.

6:9 Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood--he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.'

6:10 "The LORD has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

6:11 There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with the people of Israel."

1 John 4.

4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

4:2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

4:3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

4:5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.

4:6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

4:9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

4:11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

4:12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

4:13 We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

4:15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.

4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

4:17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.

4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

4:19 We love because he first loved us.

4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

4:21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Nahum 3.

3:1 Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!

3:2 The crack of whips, the clatter of wheels, galloping horses and jolting chariots!

3:3 Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears! Many casualties, piles of dead, bodies without number, people stumbling over the corpses--

3:4 all because of the wanton lust of a harlot, alluring, the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft.

3:5 "I am against you," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.

3:6 I will pelt you with filth, I will treat you with contempt and make you a spectacle.

3:7 All who see you will flee from you and say, 'Nineveh is in ruins--who will mourn for her?' Where can I find anyone to comfort you?"

3:8 Are you better than Thebes, situated on the Nile, with water around her? The river was her defense, the waters her wall.

3:9 Cush and Egypt were her boundless strength; Put and Libya were among her allies.

3:10 Yet she was taken captive and went into exile. Her infants were dashed to pieces at the head of every street. Lots were cast for her nobles, and all her great men were put in chains.

3:11 You too will become drunk; you will go into hiding and seek refuge from the enemy.

3:12 All your fortresses are like fig trees with their first ripe fruit; when they are shaken, the figs fall into the mouth of the eater.

3:13 Look at your troops--they are all women! The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has consumed their bars.

3:14 Draw water for the siege, strengthen your defenses! Work the clay, tread the mortar, repair the brickwork!

3:15 There the fire will devour you; the sword will cut you down and, like grasshoppers, consume you. Multiply like grasshoppers, multiply like locusts!

3:16 You have increased the number of your merchants till they are more than the stars of the sky, but like locusts they strip the land and then fly away.

3:17 Your guards are like locusts, your officials like swarms of locusts that settle in the walls on a cold day--but when the sun appears they fly away, and no one knows where.

3:18 O king of Assyria, your shepherds slumber; your nobles lie down to rest. Your people are scattered on the mountains with no one to gather them.

Luke 19.

19:1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through.

19:2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy.

19:3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd.

19:4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

19:5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today."

19:6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

19:7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.'"

19:8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."

19:9 Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.

19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

19:11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

19:12 He said: "A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.

19:13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. 'Put this money to work,' he said, 'until I come back.'

19:14 "But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We don't want this man to be our king.'

19:15 "He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.

19:16 "The first one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned ten more.'

19:17 "'Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. 'Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.'

19:18 "The second came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned five more.'

19:19 "His master answered, 'You take charge of five cities.'

19:20 "Then another servant came and said, 'Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth.

19:21 I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.'

19:22 "His master replied, 'I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow?

19:23 Why then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?'

19:24 "Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.'

19:25 "'Sir,' they said, 'he already has ten!'

19:26 "He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.

19:27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me.'"

19:28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

19:29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them,

19:30 "Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.

19:31 If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it.'"

19:32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them.

19:33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?"

19:34 They replied, "The Lord needs it."

19:35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.

19:36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

19:37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

19:38 "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"

19:39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"

19:40 "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

19:41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it

19:42 and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace--but now it is hidden from your eyes.

19:43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.

19:44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."

19:45 Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling.

19:46 "It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be a house of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"

19:47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

19:48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
