역대하 6 장 12-42.

대하6:12 솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 모든 회중과 마주 서서 그의 손을 펴니라

대하6:13 솔로몬이 일찍이 놋으로 대를 만들었으니 길이가 다섯 규빗이요 너비가 다섯 규빗이요 높이가 세 규빗이라 뜰 가운데에 두었더니 그가 그 위에 서서 이스라엘의 모든 회중 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고

대하6:14 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 천지에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 주의 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다

대하6:15 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 허락하신 말씀을 지키시되 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다

대하6:16 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 네 자손이 그들의 행위를 삼가서 네가 내 앞에서 행한 것 같이 내 율법대로 행하기만 하면 네게로부터 나서 이스라엘 왕위에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하셨사오니 이제 다윗을 위하여 허락하신 말씀을 지키시옵소서

대하6:17 그런즉 이스라엘 하나님 여호와여 원하건대 주는 주의 종 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 확실하게 하옵소서

대하6:18 하나님이 참으로 사람과 함께 땅에 계시리이까 보소서 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까

대하6:19 그러나 나의 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 주의 종이 주 앞에서 부르짖는 것과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

대하6:20 주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름을 거기에 두리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

대하6:21 주의 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 향하여 기도할 때에 주는 그 간구함을 들으시되 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 들으시사 사하여 주옵소서

대하6:22 만일 어떤 사람이 그의 이웃에게 범죄하므로 맹세시킴을 받고 그가 와서 이 성전에 있는 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세하거든

대하6:23 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 행하시되 주의 종들을 심판하사 악한 자의 죄를 정하여 그의 행위대로 그의 머리에 돌리시고 공의로운 자를 의롭다 하사 그 의로운 대로 갚으시옵소서

대하6:24 만일 주의 백성 이스라엘이 주께 범죄하여 적국 앞에 패하게 되므로 주의 이름을 인정하고 주께로 돌아와서 이 성전에서 주께 빌며 간구하거든

대하6:25 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들과 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅으로 돌아오게 하옵소서

대하6:26 만일 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 말미암아 하늘이 닫히고 비가 내리지 않는 주의 벌을 받을 때에 이 곳을 향하여 빌며 주의 이름을 인정하고 그들의 죄에서 떠나거든

대하6:27 주께서는 하늘에서 들으사 주의 종들과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그 마땅히 행할 선한 길을 가르쳐 주시오며 주의 백성에게 기업으로 주진 주의 땅에 비를 내리시옵소서

대하6:28 만일 이 땅에 기근이나 전염병이 있거나 곡식이 시들거나 깜부기가 나거나 메뚜기나 황충이 나거나 적국이 와서 성읍들을 에워싸거나 무슨 재앙이나 무슨 질병이 있거나를 막론하고

대하6:29 한 사람이나 혹 주의 온 백성 이스라엘이 다 각각 자기의 마음에 재앙과 고통을 깨닫고 이 성전을 향가여 손을 펴고 무슨 기도나 무슨 간구를 하거든

대하6:30 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시며 사유하시되 각 사람의 마음을 아시오니 그의 모든 행위대로 갚으시옵소서 주만 홀로 사람의 마음을 아심이니이다

대하6:31 그리하시면 그들이 주께서 우리 조상들에게 주신 땅에서 사는 동안에 항상 주를 경외하며 주의 길로 걸어가리이다

대하6:32 주의 백성 이스라엘에 속하지 않은 이방인에게 대하여도 그들이 주의 큰 이름과 능한 손과 펴신 팔을 위하여 먼 지방에서 와서 이 성전을 향하여 기도하거든

대하6:33 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 모든 이방인이 주께 부르짖는 대로 이루사 땅의 만민이 주의 이름을 알고 주의 백성 이스라엘처럼 경외하게 하시오며 또 내가 건축한 이 성전을 주의 이름으로 일컫는 줄을 알게 하옵소서

대하6:34 주의 백성이 그 적국과 더불어 싸우고자 하여 주께서 보내신 길로 나갈 때에 그들이 주께서 택하신 이 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 주께 기도하거든

대하6:35 주는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌보시옵소서

대하6:36 주께 범죄하지 아니하는 사람이 없사오니 그들이 주께 범죄하므로 주께서 그들에게 진노하사 그들을 적국에게 넘기시매 적국이 그들을 사로잡아 땅의 원근을 막론하고 끌고 간 후에

대하6:37 그들이 사로잡혀 간 땅에서 스스로 깨닫고 그들을 사로잡은 자들의 땅에서 돌이켜 주께 간구하기를 우리가 범죄하여 패역을 행하며 악을 행아였나이다 하며

대하6:38 자기들을 사로잡아 간 적국의 땅에서 온 마음과 온 뜻으로 주께 돌아와서 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅과 주께서 택하신 성과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 기도하거든

대하6:39 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌보시오며 주께 범죄한 주의 백성을 용서하옵소서

대하6:40 나의 하나님이여 이제 이 곳에서 하는 기도에 눈을 드시고 귀를 기울이소서

대하6:41 여호와 하나님이여 일어나 들어가사 주의 능력의 궤와 함께 주의 평안한 처소에 계시옵소서 여호와 하나님이여 원하옵건대 주의 제사장들에게 구원을 입게 하시고 또 주의 성도들에게 은혜를 기뻐하게 하옵소서

대하6:42 여호와 하나님이여 주의 기름 부음 받은 자에게서 얼굴을 돌리지 마시옵고 주의 종 다윗에게 베푸신 은총을 기억하옵소서 하였더라

요한일서 5 장.

요일5:1 예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 자마다 하나님께로부터 난 자니 또한 낳으신 이를 사랑하는 자마다 그에게서 난 자를 사랑하느니라

요일5:2 우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그의 계명들을 지킬 때에 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑하는 줄을 아느니라

요일5:3 하나님을 사랑하는 것은 이것이니 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키는 것이라 그의 계명들은 무거운 것이 아니로다

요일5:4 무릇 하나님께로부터 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라

요일5:5 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐

요일5:6 이는 물과 피로 임하신 이시니 곧 예수 그리스도시라 물로만 아니요 물과 피로 임하셨고 증언하는 이는 성령이시니 성령은 진리니라

요일5:7 증언하는 이가 셋이니

요일5:8 성령과 물과 피라 또한 이 셋은 합하여 하나이니라

요일5:9 만일 우리가 사람들의 증언을 받을진대 하나님의 증거는 더욱 크도다 하나님의 증거는 이것이니 그의 아들에 대하여 증언하신 것이라

요일5:10 하나님의 아들을 믿는 자는 자기 안에 증거가 있고 하나님을 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 거짓말하는 자로 만드나니 이는 하나님께서 그 아들에 대하여 증언하신 증거를 믿지 아니하였음이라

요일5:11 또 증거는 이것이니 하나님이 우리에게 영생을 주신 것과 이 생명이 그의 아들 안에 있는 그것이라

요일5:12 아들이 있는 자에게는 생명이 있고 하나님의 아들이 없는 자에게는 생명이 없느니라

요일5:13 내가 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 너희에게 이것을 쓰는 것은 너희로 하여금 너희에게 영생이 있음을 알게 하려 함이라

요일5:14 그를 향하여 우리가 가진 바 담대함이 이것이니 그의 뜻대로 무엇을 구하면 들으심이라

요일5:15 우리가 무엇이든지 구하는 바를 들으시는 줄을 안즉 우리가 그에게 구한 그것을 얻은 줄을 또한 아느니라

요일5:16 누구든지 형제가 사망에 이르지 아니하는 죄 범하는 것을 보거든 구하라 그리하면 사망에 이르지 아니하는 범죄자들을 위하여 그에게 생명을 주시리라 사망에 이르는 죄가 있으니 이에 관하여 나는 구하라 하지 않노라

요일5:17 모든 불의가 죄로되 사망에 이르지 아니하는 죄도 있도다

요일5:18 하나님께로부터 난 자는 다 범죄하지 아니하는 줄을 우리가 아노라 하나님께로부터 나신 자가 그를 지키시매 악한 자가 그를 만지지도 못하느니라

요일5:19 또 아는 것은 우리는 하나님께 속하고 온 세상은 악한 자 안에 처한 것이며

요일5:20 또 아는 것은 하나님의 아들이 이르러 우리에게 지각을 주사 우리로 참된 자를 알게 하신 것과 또한 우리가 참된 자 곧 그의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 것이니 그는 참하나님이시오 영생이시라

요일5:21 자녀들아 너희 자신을 지켜 우상에게서 멀리하라

하박국 1 장.

합1:1 선지자 하박국이 묵시로 받은 경고라

합1:2 여호와여 내가 부르짖어도 주께서 듣지 아니하시니 어느 때까지리이까 내가 강포로 말미암아 외쳐도 주께서 구원하지 아니하시나이다

합1:3 어찌하여 내게 죄악을 보게 하시며 패역을 눈으로 보게 하시나이까 겁탈과 강포가 내 앞에 있고 변론과 분쟁이 일어났나이다

합1:4 이러므로 율법이 해이하고 정의가 전혀 시행되지 못하오니 이는 악인이 의인을 에워쌌으므로 정의가 굽게 행하여짐이니이다

합1:5 여호와께서 이르시되 너희는 여러 나라를 보고 또 보고 놀라고 또 놀랄지어다 너희의 생전에 내가 한 가지 일을 행할 것이라 누가 너희에게 말할지라도 너희가 믿지 아니하리라

합1:6 보라 내가 사납고 성급한 백성 곧 땅이 넓은 곳으로 다니며 자기의 소유가 아닌 거처들을 점령하는 갈대아 사람을 일으켰나니

합1:7 그들은 두렵고 무서우며 당당함과 위엄이 자기들에게서 나오며

합1:8 그들의 군마는 표범보다 빠르고 저녁 이리보다 사나우며 그들의 마병은 먼 곳에서부터 빨리 달려오는 마병이라 마치 먹이를 움키려 하는 독수리의 날음과 같으니라

합1:9 그들은 다 강포를 행하러 오는데 앞을 향하여 나아가며 사람을 사로잡아 모으기를 모래 같이 많이 할 것이요

합1:10 왕들을 멸시하며 방백을 조소하며 모든 견고한 성들을 비웃고 흉벽을 쌓아 그것을 점령할 것이라

합1:11 그들은 자기들의 힘으로 자기들의 신으로 삼는 자들이라 이에 바람 같이 급히 몰아 지나치게 행하여 범죄하리라

합1:12 선지자가 이르되 여호와 나의 하나님, 나의 거룩한 이시여 주께서는 만세 전부터 계시지 아니하시니이까 우리가 사망에 이르지 아니하리이다 여호와여 주께서 심판하기 위하여 그들을 두셨나이다 반석이시여 주께서 경계하기 위하여 그들을 세우셨나이다

합1:13 주께서는 눈이 정결하시므로 악을 차마 보지 못하시며 패역을 차마 보지 못하시거늘 어찌하여 거짓된 자들을 방관하시며 악인이 자기보다 의로운 사람을 삼키는데도 잠잠하시나이까

합1:14 주께서 어찌하여 사람을 바다의 고기 같게 하시며 다스리는 자 없는 벌레 같게 하시나이까

합1:15 그가 낚시로 모두 낚으며 그물로 잡으며 투망으로 모으고 그리고는 기뻐하고 즐거워하여

합1:16 그물에 제사하며 투망 앞에 분향하오니 이는 그것을 힘입어 소득이 풍부하고 먹을 것이 풍성하게 됨이니이다

합1:17 그가 그물을 떨고는 계속하여 여러 나라를 무자비하게 멸망시키는 것이 옳으니이까

누가복음 20 장.

눅20:1 하루는 예수께서 성전에서 백성을 가르치시며 복음을 전하실새 대제사장들과 서기관들이 장로들과 함께 가까이 와서

눅20:2 말하여 이르되 당신이 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하는지 이 권위를 준 이가 누구인지 우리에게 말하라

눅20:3 대답하여 이르시되 나도 한 말을 너희에게 물으리니 내게 말하라

눅20:4 요한의 세례가 하늘로부터냐 사람으로부터냐

눅20:5 그들이 서로 의논하여 이르되 만일 하늘로부터라 하면 어찌하여 그를 믿지 아니하였느냐 할 것이요

눅20:6 만일 사람으로부터라 하면 백성이 요한을 선지자로 인정하니 그들이 다 우리를 돌로 칠 것이라 하고

눅20:7 대답하되 어디로부터인지 알지 못하노라 하니

눅20:8 예수께서 이르시되 나도 무슨 권세로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 이르지 아니하리라 하시니라

눅20:9 그가 또 이 비유로 백성에게 말씀하시기 시작하시니라 한 사람이 포도원을 만들어 농부들에게 세로 주고 타국에 가서 오래 있다가

눅20:10 때가 이르매 포도원 소출 얼마를 바치게 하려고 한 종을 농부들에게 보내니 농부들이 종을 몹시 때리고 거저 보내었거늘

눅20:11 다시 다른 종을 보내니 그도 몹시 때리고 능욕하고 거저 보내었거늘

눅20:12 다시 세 번째 종을 보내니 이 종도 상하게 하고 내쫓은지라

눅20:13 포도원 주인이 이르되 어찌할까 내 사랑하는 아들을 보내리니 그들이 혹 그는 존대하리라 하였더니

눅20:14 농부들이 그를 보고 서로 의논하여 이르되 이는 상속자니 죽이고 그 유산을 우리의 것으로 만들자 하고

눅20:15 포도원 밖에 내쫓아 죽였느니라 그런즉 포도원 주인이 이 사람들을 어떻게 하겠느냐

눅20:16 와서 그 농부들을 진멸하고 포도원을 다른 사람들에게 주리라 하시니 사람들이 듣고 이르되 그렇게 되지 말아지이다 하거늘

눅20:17 그들을 보시며 이르시되 그러면 기록된 바 건축자들의 버린 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되었느니라 함이 어찜이냐

눅20:18 무릇 이 돌 위에 떨어지는 자는 깨어지겠고 이 돌이 사람 위에 떨어지면 그를 가루로 만들어 흩으리라 하시니라

눅20:19 서기관들과 대제사장들이 예수의 이 비유는 자기들을 가리켜 말씀하심인 줄 알고 즉시 잡고자 하되 백성을 두려워하더라

눅20:20 이에 그들이 엿보다가 예수를 총독의 다스림과 권세 아래에 넘기려 하여 정탐들을 보내어 그들로 스스로 의인인 체하며 예수의 말을 책잡게 하니

눅20:21 그들이 물어 이르되 선생님이여 우리가 아노니 당신은 바로 말씀하시고 가르치시며 사람을 외모로 취하지 아니하시고 오직 진리로써 하나님의 도를 가르치시나이다

눅20:22 우리가 가이사에게 세를 바치는 것이 옳으니이까 옳지 않으니이까 하니

눅20:23 예수께서 그 간계를 아시고 이르시되

눅20:24 데나리온 하나를 내게 보이라 누구의 형상과 글이 여기 있느냐 대답하되 가이사의 것이니이다

눅20:25 이르시되 그런즉 가이사의 것은 가이사에게, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라 하시니

눅20:26 그들이 백성 앞에서 그의 말을 능히 책잡지 못하고 그의 대답을 놀랍게 여겨 침묵하니라

눅20:27 부활이 없다고 주장하는 사두개인 중 어떤 이들이 와서

눅20:28 물어 이르되 선생님이여 모세가 우리에게 써 주기를 만일 어떤 사람의 형이 아내를 두고 자식이 없이 죽으면 그 동생이 그 아내를 취하여 형을 위하여 상속자를 세울지니라 하였나이다

눅20:29 그런데 칠 형제가 있었는데 맏이가 아내를 취하였다가 자식이 없이 죽고

눅20:30 그 둘째와 셋째가 그를 취하고

눅20:31 일곱이 다 그와 같이 자식이 없이 죽고

눅20:32 그 후에 여자도 죽었나이다

눅20:33 일곱이 다 그를 아내로 취하였으니 부활 때에 그 중에 누구의 아내가 되리이까

눅20:34 예수께서 이르시되 이 세상의 자녀들은 장가도 가고 시집도 가되

눅20:35 저 세상과 및 죽은 자 가운데서 부활함을 얻기에 합당히 여김을 받은 자들은 장가 가고 시집 가는 일이 없으며

눅20:36 그들은 다시 죽을 수도 없나니 이는 천사와 동등이요 부활의 자녀로서 하나님의 자녀임이라

눅20:37 죽은 자가 살아난다는 것은 모세도 가시나무 떨기에 관한 글에서 주를 아브라함의 하나님이요 이삭의 하나님이요 야곱의 하나님이시라 칭하였나니

눅20:38 하나님은 죽은 자의 하나님이 아니요 살아 있는 자의 하나님이시라 하나님에게는 모든 사람이 살았느니라 하시니

눅20:39 서기관 중 어떤 이들이 말하되 선생님 말씀 잘 하셨나이다 하니

눅20:40 그들은 아무 것도 감히 더 물을 수 없음이더라

눅20:41 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 사람들이 어찌하여 그리스도를 다윗의 자손이라 하느냐

눅20:42 시편에 다윗이 친히 말하였으되 주께서 내 주께 이르시되

눅20:43 내가 네 원수를 네 발의 발등상으로 삼을 때까지 내 우편에 앉았으라 하셨도다 하였느니라

눅20:44 그런즉 다윗이 그리스도를 주라 칭하였으니 어찌 그의 자손이 되겠느냐 하시니라

눅20:45 모든 백성이 들을 때에 예수께서 그 제자들에게 이르시되

눅20:46 긴 옷을 입고 다니는 것을 원하며 시장에서 문안 받는 것과 회당의 높은 자리와 잔치의 윗자리를 좋아하는 서기관들을 삼가라

눅20:47 그들은 과부의 가산을 삼키며 외식으로 길게 기도하니 그들이 더욱 엄중한 심판을 받으리라 하시니라

2 Chronicles 6 12-42.

6:12 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.

6:13 Now he had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high, and had placed it in the center of the outer court. He stood on the platform and then knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven.

6:14 He said: "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth--you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

6:15 You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it--as it is today.

6:16 "Now LORD, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, 'You shall never fail to have a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons are careful in all they do to walk before me according to my law, as you have done.'

6:17 And now, O LORD, God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David come true.

6:18 "But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!

6:19 Yet give attention to your servant's prayer and his plea for mercy, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence.

6:20 May your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, this place of which you said you would put your Name there. May you hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.

6:21 Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.

6:22 "When a man wrongs his neighbor and is required to take an oath and he comes and swears the oath before your altar in this temple,

6:23 then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, repaying the guilty by bringing down on his own head what he has done. Declare the innocent not guilty and so establish his innocence.

6:24 "When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you and when they turn back and confess your name, praying and making supplication before you in this temple,

6:25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to them and their fathers.

6:26 "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and confess your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them,

6:27 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.

6:28 "When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when enemies besiege them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come,

6:29 and when a prayer or plea is made by any of your people Israel--each one aware of his afflictions and pains, and spreading out his hands toward this temple--

6:30 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive, and deal with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of men),

6:31 so that they will fear you and walk in your ways all the time they live in the land you gave our fathers.

6:32 "As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm--when he comes and prays toward this temple,

6:33 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.

6:34 "When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to you toward this city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name,

6:35 then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.

6:36 "When they sin against you--for there is no one who does not sin--and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to a land far away or near;

6:37 and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their captivity and say, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong and acted wickedly';

6:38 and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their captivity where they were taken, and pray toward the land you gave their fathers, toward the city you have chosen and toward the temple I have built for your Name;

6:39 then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their pleas, and uphold their cause. And forgive your people, who have sinned against you.

6:40 "Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

6:41 "Now arise, O LORD God, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. May your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, may your saints rejoice in your goodness.

6:42 O LORD God, do not reject your anointed one. Remember the great love promised to David your servant."

1 John 5.

5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

5:2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.

5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

5:6 This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

5:7 For there are three that testify:

5:8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

5:9 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

5:10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

5:15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.

5:16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.

5:17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

5:18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.

5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

Habakkuk 1.

1:1 The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet received.

1:2 How long, O LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save?

1:3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.

1:4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

1:5 "Look at the nations and watch--and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.

1:6 I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwelling places not their own.

1:7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor.

1:8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like a vulture swooping to devour;

1:9 they all come bent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand.

1:10 They deride kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; they build earthen ramps and capture them.

1:11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on--guilty men, whose own strength is their god."

1:12 O LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will not die. O LORD, you have appointed them to execute judgment; O Rock, you have ordained them to punish.

1:13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

1:14 You have made men like fish in the sea, like sea creatures that have no ruler.

1:15 The wicked foe pulls all of them up with hooks, he catches them in his net, he gathers them up in his dragnet; and so he rejoices and is glad.

1:16 Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.

1:17 Is he to keep on emptying his net, destroying nations without mercy?

Luke 20.

20:1 One day as he was teaching the people in the temple courts and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him.

20:2 "Tell us by what authority you are doing these things," they said. "Who gave you this authority?"

20:3 He replied, "I will also ask you a question. Tell me,

20:4 John's baptism--was it from heaven, or from men?"

20:5 They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Why didn't you believe him?'

20:6 But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet."

20:7 So they answered, "We don't know where it was from."

20:8 Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

20:9 He went on to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.

20:10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

20:11 He sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed.

20:12 He sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out.

20:13 "Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.'

20:14 "But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. 'This is the heir,' they said. 'Let's kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'

20:15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. "What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

20:16 He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others." When the people heard this, they said, "May this never be!"

20:17 Jesus looked directly at them and asked, "Then what is the meaning of that which is written: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone'?

20:18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed."

20:19 The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.

20:20 Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.

20:21 So the spies questioned him: "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.

20:22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

20:23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them,

20:24 "Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?"

20:25 "Caesar's," they replied. He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

20:26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.

20:27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question.

20:28 "Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother.

20:29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless.

20:30 The second

20:31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children.

20:32 Finally, the woman died too.

20:33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?"

20:34 Jesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage.

20:35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage,

20:36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection.

20:37 But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'

20:38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive."

20:39 Some of the teachers of the law responded, "Well said, teacher!"

20:40 And no one dared to ask him any more questions.

20:41 Then Jesus said to them, "How is it that they say the Christ is the Son of David?

20:42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms: "'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand

20:43 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'

20:44 David calls him 'Lord.' How then can he be his son?"

20:45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,

20:46 "Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

20:47 They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely." LUK
