역대하 25 장.

대하25:1 아마샤가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 이십구 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 여호앗단이요 예루살렘 사람이더라

대하25:2 아마샤가 여호와께서 보시기에 정직하게 행하기는 하였으나 온전한 마음으로 행하지 아니하였더라

대하25:3 그의 나라가 굳게 서매 그의 부왕을 죽인 신하들을 죽였으나

대하25:4 그들의 자녀들은 죽이지 아니하였으니 이는 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로 함이라 곧 여호와께서 명령하여 이르시기를 자녀로 말미암아 아버지를 죽이지 말 것이요 아버지로 말미암아 자녀를 죽이지 말 것이라 오직 각 사람은 자기의 죄로 말미암아 죽을 것이니라 하셨더라

대하25:5 아마샤가 유다 사람들을 모으고 그 여러 족속을 따라 천부장들과 백부장들을 세우되 유다와 베냐민을 함께 그리하고 이십 세 이상으로 계수하여 창과 방패를 잡고 능히 전장에 나갈 만 한자 삼십만 명을 얻고

대하25:6 또 은 백 달란트로 이스라엘 나라에서 큰 용사 십만 명을 고용하였더니

대하25:7 어떤 하나님의 사람이 아마샤에게 나아와서 이르되 왕이여 이스라엘 군대를 왕과 함께 가게 하지 마옵소서 여호와께서는 이스라엘 곧 온 에브라임 자손과 함께 하지 아니하시나니

대하25:8 왕이 만일 가시시든 힘써 싸우소서 하나님이 왕을 적군 앞에 엎드러지게 하시리이다 하나님은 능히 돕기도 하시고 능히 패하게도 하시나이다 하니

대하25:9 아마샤가 하나님의 사람에게 이르되 내가 백 달란트를 이스라엘 군대에게 주었으니 어찌할까 하나님의 사람이 말하되 여호와께서 능히 이보다 많은 것을 왕에게 주실 수 있나이다 하니라

대하25:10 아마샤가 이에 에브라임에서 자기에게 온 군대를 나누어 그들의 고향으로 돌아가게 하였더니 그 무리가 유다 사람에게 심히 노하여 분연히 고향으로 돌아갔더라

대하25:11 아마샤가 담력을 내어 그의 백성을 거느리고 소금 골짜기에 이르러 세일 자손 만 명을 죽이고

대하25:12 유다 자손이 또 만 명을 사로잡아 가지고 바위 꼭대기에 올라가서 거기서 밀쳐 내려뜨려서 그들의 온 몸이 부서지게 하였더라

대하25:13 아마샤가 자기와 함께 전장에 나가지 못하게 하고 돌려보낸 군사들이 사마리아에서부터 벧호론까지 유다 성읍들을 약탈하고 사람 삼천 명을 죽이고 물건을 많이 노략하였더라

대하25:14 아마샤가 에돔 사람들을 죽이고 돌아올 때에 세일 자손의 신들을 가져와서 자기의 신으로 세우고 그것들 앞에 경배하며 분향한지라

대하25:15 그러므로 여호와께서 아마샤에게 진노하사 한 선지자를 그에게 보내시니 그가 이르되 저 백성의 신들이 그들의 백성을 왕의 손에서 능히 구원하지 못하였거늘 왕은 어찌하여 그 신들에게 구하나이까 하며

대하25:16 선지자가 아직 그에게 말할 때에 왕이 그에게 이르되 우리가 너를 왕의 모사로 삼았느냐 그치라 어찌하여 맞으려 하느냐 하니 선지자가 그치며 이르되 왕이 이 일을 행하고 나의 경고를 듣지 아니하니 하나님이 왕을 멸하시기로 작정하신 줄 아노라 하였더라

대하25:17 유다 왕 아마샤가 상의하고 예후의 손자 여호아하스의 아들 이스라엘 왕 요아스에게 사신을 보내어 이르되 오라 서로 대면하자 한지라

대하25:18 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 유다 왕 아마샤에게 사람을 보내어 이르되 레바논 가시나무가 레바논 백향목에게 전갈을 보내어 이르기를 네 딸을 내 아들에게 주어 아내로 삼게 하라 하였더니 레바논 들짐승이 지나가다가 그 가시나무를 짓밟았느니라

대하25:19 네가 에돔 사람들을 쳤다고 네 마음이 교만하여 자긍하는도다 네 궁에나 있으라 어찌하여 화를 자초하여 너와 유다가 함께 망하고자 하느냐 하나

대하25:20 아마샤가 듣지 아니하였으니 이는 하나님께로 말미암은 것이라 그들이 에돔 신들에게 구하였으므로 그 대적의 손에 넘기려 하심이더라

대하25:21 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 올라와서 유다 왕 아마샤와 더불어 유다의 벧세메스에서 대면하였더니

대하25:22 유다가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하여 각기 장막으로 도망한지라

대하25:23 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 벧세메스에서 여호아하스의 손자 요아스의 아들 유다 왕 아마샤를 사로잡고 예루살렘에 이르러 예루살렘 성벽을 에브라임 문에서부터 성 모퉁이 문까지 사백 규빗을 헐고

대하25:24 또 하나님의 전 안에서 오벧에돔이 지키는 모든 금은과 그릇과 왕궁의 재물을 빼앗고 또 사람들을 볼모로 잡아 가지고 사마리아로 돌아갔더라

대하25:25 이스라엘 왕 요아하스의 아들 요아스가 죽은 후에도 유다 왕 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 십오년 간 생존하였더라

대하25:26 아마샤의 이 외의 처음부터 끝까지의 행적은 유다와 이스라엘 열왕기에 기록되지 아니하였느냐

대하25:27 아마샤가 돌아서서 여호와를 버린 후로부터 예루살렘에서 무리가 그를 반역하였으므로 그가 라기스로 도망하였더니 반역한 무리가 사람을 라기스로 따라 보내어 그를 거기서 죽이게 하고

대하25:28 그의 시체를 말에 실어다가 그의 조상들과 함께 유다 성읍에 장사하였더라

요한계시록 12 장.

계12:1 하늘에 큰 이적이 보이니 해를 옷 입은 한 여자가 있는데 그 발 아래에는 달이 있고 그 머리에는 열두 별의 관을 썼더라

계12:2 이 여자가 아이를 배어 해산하게 되매 아파서 애를 쓰며 부르짖더라

계12:3 하늘에 또 다른 이적이 보이니 보라 한 큰 붉은 용이 있어 머리가 일곱이요 뿔이 열이라 그 여러 머리에 일곱 왕관이 있는데

계12:4 그 꼬리가 하늘의 별 삼분의 일을 끌어다가 땅에 던지니라 용이 해산하려는 여자 앞에서 그가 해산하면 그 아이를 삼키고자 하더니

계12:5 여자가 아들을 낳으니 이는 장차 철장으로 만국을 다스릴 남자라 그 아이를 하나님 앞과 그 보좌 앞으로 올려가더라

계12:6 그 여자가 광야로 도망하매 거기서 천이백육십 일 동안 그를 양육하기 위하여 하나님께서 예비하신 곳이 있더라

계12:7 하늘에 전쟁이 있으니 미가엘과 그의 사자들이 용과 더불어 싸울새 용과 그의 사자들도 싸우나

계12:8 이기지 못하여 다시 하늘에서 그들이 있을 곳을 얻지 못한지라

계12:9 큰 용이 내쫓기니 옛 뱀 곧 마귀라고도 하고 사탄이라고도 하며 온 천하를 꾀는 자라 그가 땅으로 내쫓기니 그의 사자들도 그와 함께 내쫓기니라

계12:10 내가 또 들으니 하늘에 큰 음성이 있어 이르되 이제 우리 하나님의 구원과 능력과 나라와 또 그의 그리스도의 권세가 나타났으니 우리 형제들을 참소하던 자 곧 우리 하나님 앞에서 밤낮 참소하던 자가 쫓겨났고

계12:11 또 우리 형제들이 어린 양의 피와 자기들의 증언하는 말씀으로써 그를 이겼으니 그들은 죽기까지 자기들의 생명을 아끼지 아니하였도다

계12:12 그러므로 하늘과 그 가운데에 거하는 자들은 즐거워하라 그러나 땅과 바다는 화 있을진저 이는 마귀가 자기의 때가 얼마 남지 않은 줄 알므로 크게 분내어 너희에게 내려갔음이라 하더라

계12:13 용이 자기가 땅으로 내쫓긴 것을 보고 남자를 낳은 여자를 박해하는지라

계12:14 그 여자가 큰 독수리의 두 날개를 받아 광야 자기 곳으로 날아가 거기서 그 뱀의 낯을 피하여 한 때와 두 때와 반 때를 양육 받으매

계12:15 여자의 뒤에서 뱀이 그 입으로 물을 강 같이 토하여 여자를 물에 떠내려 가게 하려 하되

계12:16 땅이 여자를 도와 그 입을 벌려 용의 입에서 토한 강물을 삼키니

계12:17 용이 여자에게 분노하여 돌아가서 그 여자의 남은 자손 곧 하나님의 계명을 지키며 예수의 증거를 가진 자들과 더불어 싸우려고 바다 모래 위에 서 있더라

스가랴 8 장.

슥8:1 만군의 여호와의 말씀이 임하여 이르시되

슥8:2 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 내가 시온을 위하여 크게 질투하며 그를 위하여 크게 분노함으로 질투하노라

슥8:3 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 내가 시온에 돌아와 예루살렘 가운데에 거하리니 예루살렘은 진리의 성읍이라 일컫겠고 만군의 여호와의 산은 성산이라 일컫게 되리라

슥8:4 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 예루살렘 길거리에 늙은 남자들과 늙은 여자들이 다시 앉을 것이라 다 나이가 많으므로 저마다 손에 지팡이를 잡을 것이요

슥8:5 그 성읍 거리에 소년과 소녀들이 가득하여 거기에서 뛰놀리라

슥8:6 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 이 일이 그 날에 남은 백성의 눈에는 기이하려니와 내 눈에야 어찌 기이하겠느냐 만군의 여호와의 말이니라

슥8:7 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 보라, 내가 내 백성을 해가 뜨는 땅과 해가 지는 땅에서부터 구원하여 내고

슥8:8 인도하여다가 예루살렘 가운데에 거주하게 하리니 그들은 내 백성이 되고 나는 진리와 공의로 그들의 하나님이 되리라

슥8:9 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 만군의 여호와의 집 곧 성전을 건축하려고 그 지대를 쌓던 날에 있었던 선지자들의 입의 말을 이 날에 듣는 너희는 손을 견고히 할지어다

슥8:10 이 날 전에는 사람도 삯을 얻지 못하였고 짐승도 삯을 받지 못하였으며 사람이 원수로 말미암아 평안히 출입하지 못하였으나 내가 모든 사람을 서로 풀어 주게 하였느니라

슥8:11 만군의 여호와의 말씀이니라 이제는 내가 이 남은 백성을 대하기를 옛날과 같이 아니할 것인즉

슥8:12 곧 평강의 씨앗을 얻을 것이라 포도나무가 열매를 맺으며 땅이 산물을 내며 하늘은 이슬을 내리리니 내가 이 남은 백성으로 이 모든 것을 누리게 하리라

슥8:13 유다 족속아, 이스라엘 족속아, 너희가 이방인 가운데에서 저주가 되었었으나 이제는 내가 너희를 구원하여 너희가 복이 되게 하리니 두려워하지 말지니라 손을 견고히 할지니라

슥8:14 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 전에 너희 조상들이 나를 격노하게 하였을 때에 내가 그들에게 재앙을 내리기로 뜻하고 뉘우치지 아니하였으나

슥8:15 이제 내가 다시 예루살렘과 유다 족속에게 은혜를 베풀기로 뜻하였나니 너희는 두려워하지 말지니라

슥8:16 너희가 행할 일은 이러하니라 너희는 이웃과 더불어 진리를 말하며 너희 성문에서 진실하고 화평한 재판을 베풀고

슥8:17 마음에 서로 해하기를 도모하지 말며 거짓 맹세를 좋아하지 말라 이 모든 일은 내가 미워하는 것이니라 여호와의 말이니라

슥8:18 만군의 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

슥8:19 만군의 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 넷째 달의 금식과 다섯째 달의 금식과 일곱째 달의 금식과 열째 달의 금식이 변하여 유다 족속에게 기쁨과 즐거움과 희락의 절기들이 되리니 오직 너희는 진실과 화평을 사랑할지니라

슥8:20 만군의 여호와가 이와 같이 말하노라 다시 여러 백성과 많은 성읍의 주민이 올 것이라

슥8:21 이 성읍 주민이 저 성읍에 가서 이르기를 우리가 속히 가서 만군의 여호와를 찾고 여호와께 은혜를 구하자 하면 나도 가겠노라 하겠으며

슥8:22 많은 백성과 강대한 나라들이 예루살렘으로 와서 만군의 여호와를 찾고 여호와께 은혜를 구하리라

슥8:23 만군의 여호와가 이와 같이 말하노라 그 날에는 말이 다른 이방 백성 열 명이 유다 사람 하나의 옷자락을 잡을 것이라 곧 잡고 말하기를 하나님이 너희와 함께 하심을 들었나니 우리가 너희와 함께 가려 하노라 하리라 하시니라

요한복음 11 장.

요11:1 어떤 병자가 있으니 이는 마리아와 그 자매 마르다의 마을 베다니에 사는 나사로라

요11:2 이 마리아는 향유를 주께 붓고 머리털로 주의 발을 닦던 자요 병든 나사로는 그의 오라버니더라

요11:3 이에 그 누이들이 예수께 사람을 보내어 이르되 주여 보시옵소서 사랑하시는 자가 병들었나이다 하니

요11:4 예수께서 들으시고 이르시되 이 병은 죽을 병이 아니라 하나님의 영광을 위함이요 하나님의 아들이 이로 말미암아 영광을 받게 하려 함이라 하시더라

요11:5 예수께서 본래 마르다와 그 동생과 나사로를 사랑하시더니

요11:6 나사로가 병들었다 함을 들으시고 그 계시던 곳에 이틀을 더 유하시고

요11:7 그 후에 제자들에게 이르시되 유대로 다시 가자 하시니

요11:8 제자들이 말하되 랍비여 방금도 유대인들이 돌로 치려 하였는데 또 그리로 가시려 하나이까

요11:9 예수께서 대답하시되 낮이 열두 시간이 아니냐 사람이 낮에 다니면 이 세상의 빛을 보므로 실족하지 아니하고

요11:10 밤에 다니면 빛이 그 사람 안에 없는 고로 실족하느니라

요11:11 이 말씀을 하신 후에 또 이르시되 우리 친구 나사로가 잠들었도다 그러나 내가 깨우러 가노라

요11:12 제자들이 이르되 주여 잠들었으면 낫겠나이다 하더라

요11:13 예수는 그의 죽음을 가리켜 말씀하신 것이나 그들은 잠들어 쉬는 것을 가리켜 말씀하심인줄 생각하는지라

요11:14 이에 예수께서 밝히 이르시되 나사로가 죽었느니라

요11:15 내가 거기 있지 아니한 것을 너희를 위하여 기뻐하노니 이는 너희로 믿게 하려 함이라 그러나 그에게로 가자 하시니

요11:16 디두모라고도 하는 도마가 다른 제자들에게 말하되 우리도 주와 함께 죽으러 가자 하니라

요11:17 예수께서 와서 보시니 나사로가 무덤에 있은 지 이미 나흘이라

요11:18 베다니는 예루살렘에서 가깝기가 한 오 리쯤 되매

요11:19 많은 유대인이 마르다와 마리아에게 그 오라비의 일로 위문하러 왔더니

요11:20 마르다는 예수께서 오신다는 말을 듣고 곧 나가 맞이하되 마리아는 집에 앉았더라

요11:21 마르다가 예수께 여짜오되 주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다

요11:22 그러나 나는 이제라도 주께서 무엇이든지 하나님께 구하시는 것을 하나님이 주실 줄을 아나이다

요11:23 예수께서 이르시되 네 오라비가 다시 살아나리라

요11:24 마르다가 이르되 마지막 날 부활 때에는 다시 살아날 줄을 내가 아나이다

요11:25 예수께서 이르시되 나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고

요11:26 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리니 이것을 네가 믿느냐

요11:27 이르되 주여 그러하외다 주는 그리스도시요 세상에 오시는 하나님의 아들이신 줄 내가 믿나이다

요11:28 이 말을 하고 돌아가서 가만히 그 자매 마리아를 불러 말하되 선생님이 오셔서 너를 부르신다 하니

요11:29 마리아가 이 말을 듣고 급히 일어나 예수께 나아가매

요11:30 예수는 아직 마을로 들어오지 아니하시고 마르다가 맞이했던 곳에 그대로 계시더라

요11:31 마리아와 함께 집에 있어 위로하던 유대인들은 그가 급히 일어나 나가는 것을 보고 곡하러 무덤에 가는 줄로 생각하고 따라가더니

요11:32 마리아가 예수 계신 곳에 가서 뵈옵고 그 발 앞에 엎드리어 이르되 주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다 하더라

요11:33 예수께서 그가 우는 것과 또 함께 온 유대인들이 우는 것을 보시고 심령에 비통히 여기시고 불쌍히 여기사

요11:34 이르시되 그를 어디 두었느냐 이르되 주여 와서 보옵소서 하니

요11:35 예수께서 눈물을 흘리시더라

요11:36 이에 유대인들이 말하되 보라 그를 얼마나 사랑하셨는가 하며

요11:37 그 중 어떤 이는 말하되 맹인의 눈을 뜨게 한 이 사람이 그 사람은 죽지 않게 할 수 없었더냐 하더라

요11:38 이에 예수께서 다시 속으로 비통히 여기시며 무덤에 가시니 무덤이 굴이라 돌로 막았거늘

요11:39 예수께서 이르시되 돌을 옮겨 놓으라 하시니 그 죽은 자의 누이 마르다가 이르되 주여 죽은 지가 나흘이 되었으매 벌써 냄새가 나나이다

요11:40 예수께서 이르시되 내 말이 네가 믿으면 하나님의 영광을 보리라 하지 아니하였느냐 하시니

요11:41 돌을 옮겨 놓으니 예수께서 눈을 들어 우러러 보시고 이르시되 아버지여 내 말을 들으신 것을 감사하나이다

요11:42 항상 내 말을 들으시는 줄을 내가 알았나이다 그러나 이 말씀 하옵는 것은 둘러선 무리를 위함이니 곧 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 그들로 믿게 하려 함이니이다

요11:43 이 말씀을 하시고 큰 소리로 나사로야 나오라 부르시니

요11:44 죽은 자가 수족을 베로 동인 채로 나오는데 그 얼굴은 수건에 싸였더라 예수께서 이르시되 풀어 놓아 다니게 하라 하시니라

요11:45 마리아에게 와서 예수께서 하신 일을 본 많은 유대인이 그를 믿었으나

요11:46 그 중에 어떤 자는 바리새인들에게 가서 예수께서 하신 일을 알리니라

요11:47 이에 대제사장들과 바리새인들이 공회를 모으고 이르되 이 사람이 많은 표적을 행하니 우리가 어떻게 하겠느냐

요11:48 만일 그를 이대로 두면 모든 사람이 그를 믿을 것이요 그리고 로마인들이 와서 우리 땅과 민족을 빼앗아 가리라 하니

요11:49 그 중에 한 사람 그 해 대제사장인 가야바가 그들에게 말하되 너희가 아무 것도 알지 못하는도다

요11:50 한 사람이 백성을 위하여 죽어서 온 민족이 망하지 않게 되는 것이 너희에게 유익한 줄을 생각하지 아니하는도다 하였으니

요11:51 이 말은 스스로 함이 아니요 그 해에 대제사장이므로 예수께서 그 민족을 위하시고

요11:52 또 그 민족만 위할 뿐 아니라 흩어진 하나님의 자녀를 모아 하나가 되게 하기 위하여 죽으실 것을 미리 말함이러라

요11:53 이 날부터는 그들이 예수를 죽이려고 모의하니라

요11:54 그러므로 예수께서 다시 유대인 가운데 드러나게 다니지 아니하시고 여기를 떠나 빈 들 가까운 곳인 에브라임이라는 동네에 가서 제자들과 함께 거기 머무르시니라

요11:55 유대인의 유월절이 가까우매 많은 사람이 자기를 성결하게 하기 위하여 유월절 전에 시골서 예루살렘으로 올라갔더니

요11:56 그들이 예수를 찾으며 성전에 서서 서로 말하되 너희 생각에는 어떠하냐 그가 명절에 오지 아니하겠느냐 하니

요11:57 이는 대제사장들과 바리새인들이 누구든지 예수 있는 곳을 알거든 신고하여 잡게 하라 명령하였음이러라

2 Chronicles 25.

25:1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Jehoaddin; she was from Jerusalem.

25:2 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.

25:3 After the kingdom was firmly in his control, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king.

25:4 Yet he did not put their sons to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sins."

25:5 Amaziah called the people of Judah together and assigned them according to their families to commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin. He then mustered those twenty years old or more and found that there were three hundred thousand men ready for military service, able to handle the spear and shield.

25:6 He also hired a hundred thousand fighting men from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.

25:7 But a man of God came to him and said, "O king, these troops from Israel must not march with you, for the LORD is not with Israel--not with any of the people of Ephraim.

25:8 Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow."

25:9 Amaziah asked the man of God, "But what about the hundred talents I paid for these Israelite troops?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."

25:10 So Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. They were furious with Judah and left for home in a great rage.

25:11 Amaziah then marshaled his strength and led his army to the Valley of Salt, where he killed ten thousand men of Seir.

25:12 The army of Judah also captured ten thousand men alive, took them to the top of a cliff and threw them down so that all were dashed to pieces.

25:13 Meanwhile the troops that Amaziah had sent back and had not allowed to take part in the war raided Judean towns from Samaria to Beth Horon. They killed three thousand people and carried off great quantities of plunder.

25:14 When Amaziah returned from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the people of Seir. He set them up as his own gods, bowed down to them and burned sacrifices to them.

25:15 The anger of the LORD burned against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who said, "Why do you consult this people's gods, which could not save their own people from your hand?"

25:16 While he was still speaking, the king said to him, "Have we appointed you an adviser to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?" So the prophet stopped but said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel."

25:17 After Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, he sent this challenge to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel: "Come, meet me face to face."

25:18 But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah: "A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, 'Give your daughter to my son in marriage.' Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.

25:19 You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?"

25:20 Amaziah, however, would not listen, for God so worked that he might hand them over to Jehoash, because they sought the gods of Edom.

25:21 So Jehoash king of Israel attacked. He and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth Shemesh in Judah.

25:22 Judah was routed by Israel, and every man fled to his home.

25:23 Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. Then Jehoash brought him to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate--a section about six hundred feet long.

25:24 He took all the gold and silver and all the articles found in the temple of God that had been in the care of Obed-Edom, together with the palace treasures and the hostages, and returned to Samaria.

25:25 Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel.

25:26 As for the other events of Amaziah's reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

25:27 From the time that Amaziah turned away from following the LORD, they conspired against him in Jerusalem and he fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there.

25:28 He was brought back by horse and was buried with his fathers in the City of Judah.

Revelation 12.

12:1 A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.

12:2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.

12:3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads.

12:4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born.

12:5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.

12:6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.

12:7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.

12:8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.

12:9 The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.

12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

12:12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."

12:13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.

12:14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach.

12:15 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent.

12:16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.

12:17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

Zechariah 8.

8:1 Again the word of the LORD Almighty came to me.

8:2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her."

8:3 This is what the LORD says: "I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain."

8:4 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age.

8:5 The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there."

8:6 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time, but will it seem marvelous to me?" declares the LORD Almighty.

8:7 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west.

8:8 I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God."

8:9 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "You who now hear these words spoken by the prophets who were there when the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD Almighty, let your hands be strong so that the temple may be built.

8:10 Before that time there were no wages for man or beast. No one could go about his business safely because of his enemy, for I had turned every man against his neighbor.

8:11 But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as I did in the past," declares the LORD Almighty.

8:12 "The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people.

8:13 As you have been an object of cursing among the nations, O Judah and Israel, so will I save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong."

8:14 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Just as I had determined to bring disaster upon you and showed no pity when your fathers angered me," says the LORD Almighty,

8:15 "so now I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah. Do not be afraid.

8:16 These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts;

8:17 do not plot evil against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this," declares the LORD.

8:18 Again the word of the LORD Almighty came to me.

8:19 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace."

8:20 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come,

8:21 and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, 'Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.'

8:22 And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him."

8:23 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.'" An Oracle

John 11.

11:1 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

11:2 This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.

11:3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."

11:4 When he heard this, Jesus said, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it."

11:5 Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

11:6 Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.

11:7 Then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to Judea."

11:8 "But Rabbi," they said, "a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?"

11:9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light.

11:10 It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light."

11:11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up."

11:12 His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better."

11:13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

11:14 So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead,

11:15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."

11:16 Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."

11:17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.

11:18 Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem,

11:19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother.

11:20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

11:21 "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

11:22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."

11:23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."

11:24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

11:26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

11:27 "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

11:28 And after she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. "The Teacher is here," she said, "and is asking for you."

11:29 When Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him.

11:30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met him.

11:31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.

11:32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

11:33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.

11:34 "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied.

11:35 Jesus wept.

11:36 Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"

11:37 But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?"

11:38 Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.

11:39 "Take away the stone," he said. "But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."

11:40 Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

11:41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me.

11:42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."

11:43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"

11:44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."

11:45 Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put their faith in him.

11:46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.

11:47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "What are we accomplishing?" they asked. "Here is this man performing many miraculous signs.

11:48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation."

11:49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all!

11:50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish."

11:51 He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,

11:52 and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.

11:53 So from that day on they plotted to take his life.

11:54 Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the Jews. Instead he withdrew to a region near the desert, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.

11:55 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, many went up from the country to Jerusalem for their ceremonial cleansing before the Passover.

11:56 They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in the temple area they asked one another, "What do you think? Isn't he coming to the Feast at all?"

11:57 But the chief priests and Pharisees had given orders that if anyone found out where Jesus was, he should report it so that they might arrest him.
