역대하 33 장.

대하33:1 므낫세가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 십이 세라 예루살렘에서 오십오 년 동안 다스리며

대하33:2 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하여 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 쫓아내신 이방 사람들의 가증한 일을 본받아

대하33:3 그의 아버지 히스기야가 헐어 버린 산당을 다시 세우며 바알들을 위하여 제단을 쌓으며 아세라 목상을 만들며 하늘의 모든 일월성신을 경배하여 섬기며

대하33:4 여호와께서 전에 이르시기를 내가 내 이름을 예루살렘에 영원히 두리라 하신 여호와의 전에 제단들을 쌓고

대하33:5 또 여호와의 전 두 마당에 하늘의 일월성신을 위하여 제단들을 쌓고

대하33:6 또 힌놈의 아들 골짜기에서 그의 아들들을 불 가운데로 지나가게 하며 또 점치며 사술과 요술을 행하며 신접한 자와 박수를 신임하여 여호와 보시기에 악을 많이 행하여 여호와를 진노하게 하였으며

대하33:7 또 자기가 만든 아로새긴 목상을 하나님의 전에 세웠더라 옛적에 하나님이 이 성전에 대하여 다윗과 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 이르시기를 내가 이스라엘 모든 지파 중에서 택한 이 성전과 예루살렘에 내 이름을 영원히 둘지라

대하33:8 만일 이스라엘 사람이 내가 명령한 일들 곧 모세를 통하여 전한 모든 율법과 율례와 규례를 지켜 행하면 내가 그들의 발로 다시는 그의 조상들에게 정하여 준 땅에서 옮기지 않게 하리라 하셨으나

대하33:9 유다와 예루살렘 주민이 므낫세의 꾀임을 받고 악을 행한 것이 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 멸하신 모든 나라보다 더욱 심하였더라

대하33:10 여호와께서 므낫세와 그의 백성에게 이르셨으나 그들이 듣지 아니하므로

대하33:11 여호와께서 앗수르 왕의 군대 지휘관들이 와서 치게 하시매 그들이 므낫세를 사로잡고 쇠사슬로 결박하여 바벨론으로 끌고 간지라

대하33:12 그가 환난을 당하여 그의 하나님 여호와께 간구하고 그의 조상들의 하니님 앞에 크게 겸손하여

대하33:13 기도하였으므로 하나님이 그의 기도를 받으시며 그의 간구를 들으시사 그가 예루살렘에 돌아와서 다시 왕위에 앉게 하시매 므낫세가 그제서야 여호와께서 하나님이신 줄을 알았더라

대하33:14 그 후에 다윗 성 밖 기혼 서쪽 골짜기 안에 외성을 쌓되 어문 어귀까지 이르러 오벨을 둘러 매우 높이 쌓고 또 유다 모든 견고한 성읍에 군대 지휘관을 두며

대하33:15 이방 신들과 여호와의 전의 우상을 제거하며 여호와의 전을 건축한 산에와 예루살렘에 쌓은 모든 제단들을 다 성 밖에 던지고

대하33:16 여호와의 제단을 보수하고 화목제와 감사제를 그 제단 위에 드리고 유다를 명령하여 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 섬기라 하매

대하33:17 백성이 그의 하나님 여호와께만 제사를 드렸으나 아직도 산당에서 제사를 드렸더라

대하33:18 므낫세의 남은 사적과 그가 하나님께 한 기도와 선견자가 이스라엘 하나님 여호와의 이름으로 권한 말씀은 모두 이스라엘 왕들의 행장에 기록되었고

대하33:19 또 그의 기도와 그의 기도를 들으신 것과 그의 모든 죄와 허물과 겸손하기 전에 산당을 세운 곳과 아세라 목상과 우상을 세운 곳들이 다 호새의 사기에 기록되니라

대하33:20 므낫세와 그의 열조와 함께 누우매 그의 궁에 장사되고 그의 아들 아몬이 대신하여 왕이 되니라

대하33:21 아몬이 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십이 세라 예루살렘에서 이 년 동안 다스리며

대하33:22 그의 아버지 므낫세의 행함 같이 여호와 보시기에 악을 향하여 아몬이 그의 아버지 므낫세가 만든 아로새긴 모든 우상에게 제사하여 섬겼으며

대하33:23 이 아몬이 그의 아버지 므낫세가 스스로 겸손함 같이 여호와 앞에서 스스로 겸손하지 아니하고 더욱 범죄하더니

대하33:24 그의 신하가 반역하여 왕을 궁중에서 죽이매

대하33:25 백성들이 아몬 왕을 반역한 사람들을 다 죽이고 그의 아들 요시야를 대신하여 왕으로 삼으니라

요한계시록 19 장.

계19:1 이 일 후에 내가 들으니 하늘에 허다한 무리의 큰 음성 같은 것이 있어 이르되 할렐루야 구원과 영광과 능력이 우리 하나님께 있도다

계19:2 그의 심판은 참되고 의로운 자라 음행으로 땅을 더럽게 한 큰 음녀를 심판하사 자기 종들의 피를 그 음녀의 손에 갚으셨도다 하고

계19:3 두 번째로 할렐루야 하니 그 연기가 세세토록 올라가더라

계19:4 또 이십사 장로와 네 생물이 엎드려 보좌에 앉으신 하나님께 경배하여 이르되 아멘 할렐루야 하니

계19:5 보좌에서 음성이 나서 이르시되 하나님의 종들 곧 그를 경외하는 너희들아 작은 자나 큰 자나 다 우리 하나님께 찬송하라 하더라

계19:6 또 내가 들으니 허다한 무리의 음성과도 같고 많은 물 소리와도 같고 큰 우렛소리와도 같은 소리로 이르되 할렐루야 주 우리 하나님 곧 전능하신 이가 통치하시도다

계19:7 우리가 즐거워하고 크게 기뻐하며 그에게 영광을 돌리세 어린 양의 혼인 기약이 이르렀고 그의 아내가 자신을 준비하였으므로

계19:8 그에게 빛나고 깨끗한 세마포 옷을 입도록 허락하셨으니 이 세마포 옷은 성도들의 옳은 행실이로다 하더라

계19:9 천사가 내게 말하기를 기록하라 어린 양의 혼인 잔치에 청함을 받은 자들은 복이 있도다 하고 또 내게 말하되 이것은 하나님의 참되신 말씀이라 하기로

계19:10 내가 그 발 앞에 엎드려 경배하려 하니 그가 나에게 말하기를 나는 너와 및 예수의 증언을 받은 네 형제들과 같이 된 종이니 삼가 그리하지 말고 오직 하나님께 경배하라 예수의 증언은 예언의 영이라 하더라

계19:11 또 내가 하늘이 열린 것을 보니 보라 백마와 그것을 탄 자가 있으니 그 이름은 충신과 진실이라 그가 공의로 심판하며 싸우더라

계19:12 그 눈은 불꽃 같고 그 머리에는 많은 관들이 있고 또 이름 쓴 것 하나가 있으니 자기밖에 아는 자가 없고

계19:13 또 그가 피 뿌린 옷을 입었는데 그 이름은 하나님의 말씀이라 칭하더라

계19:14 하늘에 있는 군대들이 희고 깨끗한 세마포 옷을 입고 백마를 타고 그를 따르더라

계19:15 그의 입에서 예리한 검이 나오니 그것으로 만국을 치겠고 친히 그들을 철장으로 다스리며 또 친히 하나님 곧 전능하신 이의 맹렬한 진노의 포도주 틀을 밟겠고

계19:16 그 옷과 그 다리에 이름을 쓴 것이 있으니 만왕의 왕이요 만주의 주라 하였더라

계19:17 또 내가 보니 한 천사가 태양 안에 서서 공중에 나는 모든 새를 향하여 큰 음성으로 외쳐 이르되 와서 하나님의 큰 잔치에 모여

계19:18 왕들의 살과 장군들의 살과 장사들의 살과 말들과 그것을 탄 자들의 살과 자유인들이나 종들이나 작은 자나 큰 자나 모든 자의 살을 먹으라 하더라

계19:19 또 내가 보매 그 짐승과 땅의 임금들과 그들의 군대들이 모여 그 말 탄 자와 그의 군대와 더불어 전쟁을 일으키다가

계19:20 짐승이 잡히고 그 앞에서 표적을 행하던 거짓 선지자도 함께 잡혔으니 이는 짐승의 표를 받고 그의 우상에게 경배하던 자들을 표적으로 미혹하던 자라 이 둘이 산 채로 유황불 붙는 못에 던져지고

계19:21 그 나머지는 말 탄 자의 입으로부터 나오는 검에 죽으매 모든 새가 그들의 살로 배불리더라

말라기 1 장.

말1:1 여호와께서 말라기를 통하여 이스라엘에게 말씀하신 경고라

말1:2 여호와께서 이르시되 내가 너희를 사랑하였노라 하나 너희는 이르기를 주께서 어떻게 우리를 사랑하셨나이까 하는도다 나 여호와가 말하노라 에서는 야곱의 형이 아니냐 그러나 내가 야곱을 사랑하였고

말1:3 에서는 미워하였으며 그의 산들을 황폐하게 하였고 그의 산업을 광야의 이리들에게 넘겼느니라

말1:4 에돔은 말하기를 우리가 무너뜨림을 당하였으나 황폐된 곳을 다시 쌓으리라 하거니와 나 만군의 여호와는 이르노라 그들은 쌓을지라도 나는 헐리라 사람들이 그들을 일컬어 악한 지역이라 할 것이요 여호와의 영원한 진노를 받은 백성이라 할 것이며

말1:5 너희는 눈으로 보고 이르기를 여호와께서는 이스라엘 지역 밖에서도 크시다 하리라

말1:6 내 이름을 멸시하는 제사장들아 나 만군의 여호와가 너희에게 이르기를 아들은 그 아버지를, 종은 그 주인을 공경하나니 내가 아버지일진대 나를 공경함이 어디 있느냐 내가 주인일진대 나를 두려워함이 어디 있느냐 하나 너희는 이르기를 우리가 어떻게 주의 이름을 멸시하였나이까 하는도다

말1:7 너희가 더러운 떡을 나의 단에 드리고도 말하기를 우리가 어떻게 주를 더럽게 하였나이까 하는도다 이는 너희가 여호와의 식탁은 경멸히 여길 것이라 말하기 때문이라

말1:8 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희가 눈 먼 희생제물을 바치는 것이 어찌 악하지 아니하며 저는 것, 병든 것을 드리는 것이 어찌 악하지 아니하냐 이제 그것을 너희 총독에게 드려 보라 그가 너를 기뻐하겠으며 너를 받아 주겠느냐

말1:9 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희는 나 하나님께 은혜를 구하면서 우리를 불쌍히 여기소서 하여 보라 너희가 이같이 행하였으니 내가 너희 중 하나인들 받겠느냐

말1:10 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희가 내 제단 위에 헛되이 불사르지 못하게 하기 위하여 너희 중에 성전 문을 닫을 자가 있었으면 좋겠도다 내가 너희를 기뻐하지 아니하며 너희가 손으로 드리는 것을 받지도 아니하리라

말1:11 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 해 뜨는 곳에서부터 해 지는 곳까지의 이방 민족 중에서 내 이름이 크게 될 것이라 각처에서 내 이름을 위하여 분향하며 깨끗한 제물을 드리리니 이는 내 이름이 이방 민족 중에서 크게 될 것임이니라

말1:12 그러나 너희는 말하기를 여호와의 식탁은 더러워졌고 그 위에 있는 과일 곧 먹을 것은 경멸히 여길 것이라 하여 내 이름을 더럽히는도다

말1:13 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희가 또 말하기를 이 일이 얼마나 번거로운고 하며 코웃음치고 훔친 물건과 저는 것, 병든 것을 가져왔느니라 너희가 이같이 봉헌물을 가져오니 내가 그것을 너희 손에서 받겠느냐 이는 여호와의 말이니라

말1:14 짐승 떼 가운데 수컷이 있거늘 그 서원하는 일에 흠 있는 것으로 속여 내게 드리는 자는 저주를 받으리니 나는 큰 임금이요 내 이름은 이방 민족 중에서 두려워하는 것이 됨이니라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라

요한복음 18 장.

요18:1 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 제자들과 함께 기드론 시내 건너편으로 나가시니 그 곳에 동산이 있는데 제자들과 함께 들어가시니라

요18:2 그 곳은 가끔 예수께서 제자들과 모이시는 곳이므로 예수를 파는 유다도 그 곳을 알더라

요18:3 유다가 군대와 대제사장들과 바리새인들에게서 얻은 아랫사람들을 데리고 등과 횃불과 무기를 가지고 그리로 오는지라

요18:4 예수께서 그 당할 일을 다 아시고 나아가 이르시되 너희가 누구를 찾느냐

요18:5 대답하되 나사렛 예수라 하거늘 이르시되 내가 그니라 하시니라 그를 파는 유다도 그들과 함께 섰더라

요18:6 예수께서 그들에게 내가 그니라 하실 때에 그들이 물러가서 땅에 엎드러지는지라

요18:7 이에 다시 누구를 찾느냐고 물으신대 그들이 말하되 나사렛 예수라 하거늘

요18:8 예수께서 대답하시되 너희에게 내가 그니라 하였으니 나를 찾거든 이 사람들이 가는 것은 용납하라 하시니

요18:9 이는 아버지께서 내게 주신 자 중에서 하나도 잃지 아니하였사옵나이다 하신 말씀을 응하게 하려 함이러라

요18:10 이에 시몬 베드로가 칼을 가졌는데 그것을 빼어 대제사장의 종을 쳐서 오른편 귀를 베어버리니 그 종의 이름은 말고라

요18:11 예수께서 베드로더러 이르시되 칼을 칼집에 꽂으라 아버지께서 주신 잔을 내가 마시지 아니하겠느냐 하시니라

요18:12 이에 군대와 천부장과 유대인의 아랫사람들이 예수를 잡아 결박하여

요18:13 먼저 안나스에게로 끌고 가니 안나스는 그 해의 대제사장인 가야바의 장인이라

요18:14 가야바는 유대인들에게 한 사람이 백성을 위하여 죽는 것이 유익하다고 권고하던 자러라

요18:15 시몬 베드로와 또 다른 제자 한 사람이 예수를 따르니 이 제자는 대제사장과 아는 사람이라 예수와 함께 대제사장의 집 뜰에 들어가고

요18:16 베드로는 문 밖에 서 있는지라 대제사장을 아는 그 다른 제자가 나가서 문 지키는 여자에게 말하여 베드로를 데리고 들어오니

요18:17 문 지키는 여종이 베드로에게 말하되 너도 이 사람의 제자 중 하나가 아니냐 하니 그가 말하되 나는 아니라 하고

요18:18 그 때가 추운 고로 종과 아랫사람들이 불을 피우고 서서 쬐니 베드로도 함께 서서 쬐더라

요18:19 대제사장이 예수에게 그의 제자들과 그의 교훈에 대하여 물으니

요18:20 예수께서 대답하시되 내가 드러내 놓고 세상에 말하였노라 모든 유대인들이 모이는 회당과 성전에서 항상 가르쳤고 은밀하게는 아무 것도 말하지 아니하였거늘

요18:21 어찌하여 내게 묻느냐 내가 무슨 말을 하였는지 들은 자들에게 물어 보라 그들이 내가 하던 말을 아느니라

요18:22 이 말씀을 하시매 곁에 섰던 아랫사람 하나가 손으로 예수를 쳐 이르되 네가 대제사장에게 이같이 대답하느냐 하니

요18:23 예수께서 대답하시되 내가 말을 잘못하였으면 그 잘못한 것을 증언하라 잘하였으면 네가 어찌하여 나를 치느냐 하시더라

요18:24 안나스가 예수를 결박한 그대로 대제사장 가야바에게 보내니라

요18:25 시몬 베드로가 서서 불을 쬐더니 사람들이 묻되 너도 그 제자 중 하나가 아니냐 베드로가 부인하여 이르되 나는 아니라 하니

요18:26 대제사장의 종 하나는 베드로에게 귀를 잘린 사람의 친척이라 이르되 네가 그 사람과 함께 동산에 있던 것을 내가 보지 아니하였느냐

요18:27 이에 베드로가 또 부인하니 곧 닭이 울더라

요18:28 그들이 예수를 가야바에게서 관정으로 끌고 가니 새벽이라 그들은 더럽힘을 받지 아니하고 유월절 잔치를 먹고자 하여 관정에 들어가지 아니하더라

요18:29 그러므로 빌라도가 밖으로 나가서 그들에게 말하되 너희가 무슨 일로 이 사람을 고발하느냐

요18:30 대답하여 이르되 이 사람이 행악자가 아니었더라면 우리가 당신에게 넘기지 아니하였겠나이다

요18:31 빌라도가 이르되 너희가 그를 데려다가 너희 법대로 재판하라 유대인들이 이르되 우리에게는 사람을 죽이는 권한이 없나이다 하니

요18:32 이는 예수께서 자기가 어떠한 죽음으로 죽을 것을 가리켜 하신 말씀을 응하게 하려 함이러라

요18:33 이에 빌라도가 다시 관정에 들어가 예수를 불러 이르되 네가 유대인의 왕이냐

요18:34 예수께서 대답하시되 이는 네가 스스로 하는 말이냐 다른 사람들이 나에 대하여 네게 한 말이냐

요18:35 빌라도가 대답하되 내가 유대인이냐 네 나라 사람과 대제사장들이 너를 내게 넘겼으니 네가 무엇을 하였느냐

요18:36 예수께서 대답하시되 내 나라는 이 세상에 속한 것이 아니니라 만일 내 나라가 이 세상에 속한 것이었더라면 내 종들이 싸워 나로 유대인들에게 넘겨지지 않게 하였으리라 이제 내 나라는 여기에 속한 것이 아니니라

요18:37 빌라도가 이르되 그러면 네가 왕이 아니냐 예수께서 대답하시되 네 말과 같이 내가 왕이니라 내가 이를 위하여 태어났으며 이를 위하여 세상에 왔나니 곧 진리에 대하여 증언하려 함이로라 무릇 진리에 속한 자는 내 소리를 듣느니라 하신대

요18:38 빌라도가 이르되 진리가 무엇이냐 하더라 이 말을 하고 다시 유대인들에게 나가서 이르되 나는 그에게서 아무 죄도 찾지 못하였노라

요18:39 유월절이면 내가 너희에게 한 사람을 놓아 주는 전례가 있으니 그러면 너희는 내가 유대인의 왕을 너희에게 놓아 주기를 원하느냐 하니

요18:40 그들이 또 소리 질러 이르되 이 사람이 아니라 바라바라 하니 바라바는 강도였더라

2 Chronicles 33.

33:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years.

33:2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.

33:3 He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them.

33:4 He built altars in the temple of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "My Name will remain in Jerusalem forever."

33:5 In both courts of the temple of the LORD, he built altars to all the starry hosts.

33:6 He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

33:7 He took the carved image he had made and put it in God's temple, of which God had said to David and to his son Solomon, "In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever.

33:8 I will not again make the feet of the Israelites leave the land I assigned to your forefathers, if only they will be careful to do everything I commanded them concerning all the laws, decrees and ordinances given through Moses."

33:9 But Manasseh led Judah and the people of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites.

33:10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.

33:11 So the LORD brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.

33:12 In his distress he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

33:13 And when he prayed to him, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.

33:14 Afterward he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, west of the Gihon spring in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate and encircling the hill of Ophel; he also made it much higher. He stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities in Judah.

33:15 He got rid of the foreign gods and removed the image from the temple of the LORD, as well as all the altars he had built on the temple hill and in Jerusalem; and he threw them out of the city.

33:16 Then he restored the altar of the LORD and sacrificed fellowship offerings and thank offerings on it, and told Judah to serve the LORD, the God of Israel.

33:17 The people, however, continued to sacrifice at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.

33:18 The other events of Manasseh's reign, including his prayer to his God and the words the seers spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, are written in the annals of the kings of Israel.

33:19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, as well as all his sins and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself--all are written in the records of the seers.

33:20 Manasseh rested with his fathers and was buried in his palace. And Amon his son succeeded him as king.

33:21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years.

33:22 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done. Amon worshiped and offered sacrifices to all the idols Manasseh had made.

33:23 But unlike his father Manasseh, he did not humble himself before the LORD; Amon increased his guilt.

33:24 Amon's officials conspired against him and assassinated him in his palace.

33:25 Then the people of the land killed all who had plotted against King Amon, and they made Josiah his son king in his place.

Revelation 19.

19:1 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,

19:2 for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great prostitute who corrupted the earth by her adulteries. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants."

19:3 And again they shouted: "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever."

19:4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried: "Amen, Hallelujah!"

19:5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!"

19:6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.

19:7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

19:8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)

19:9 Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God."

19:10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

19:11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.

19:12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

19:13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.

19:14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

19:15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, "Come, gather together for the great supper of God,

19:18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great."

19:19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army.

19:20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

19:21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

Malachi 1.

1:1 An oracle: The word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi.

1:2 "I have loved you," says the LORD. "But you ask, 'How have you loved us?' "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" the LORD says. "Yet I have loved Jacob,

1:3 but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals."

1:4 Edom may say, "Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins." But this is what the LORD Almighty says: "They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the LORD.

1:5 You will see it with your own eyes and say, 'Great is the LORD--even beyond the borders of Israel!'

1:6 "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name. "But you ask, 'How have we shown contempt for your name?'

1:7 "You place defiled food on my altar. "But you ask, 'How have we defiled you?' "By saying that the LORD'S table is contemptible.

1:8 When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?" says the LORD Almighty.

1:9 "Now implore God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?"--says the LORD Almighty.

1:10 "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you," says the LORD Almighty, "and I will accept no offering from your hands.

1:11 My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name, because my name will be great among the nations," says the LORD Almighty.

1:12 "But you profane it by saying of the Lord's table, 'It is defiled,' and of its food, 'It is contemptible.'

1:13 And you say, 'What a burden!' and you sniff at it contemptuously," says the LORD Almighty. "When you bring injured, crippled or diseased animals and offer them as sacrifices, should I accept them from your hands?" says the LORD.

1:14 "Cursed is the cheat who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but then sacrifices a blemished animal to the LORD. For I am a great king," says the LORD Almighty, "and my name is to be feared among the nations.

John 18.

18:1 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and he and his disciples went into it.

18:2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples.

18:3 So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

18:4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?"

18:5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)

18:6 When Jesus said, "I am he," they drew back and fell to the ground.

18:7 Again he asked them, "Who is it you want?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth."

18:8 "I told you that I am he," Jesus answered. "If you are looking for me, then let these men go."

18:9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: "I have not lost one of those you gave me."

18:10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.)

18:11 Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"

18:12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him

18:13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.

18:14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people.

18:15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard,

18:16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

18:17 "You are not one of his disciples, are you?" the girl at the door asked Peter. He replied, "I am not."

18:18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

18:19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.

18:20 "I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.

18:21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said."

18:22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby struck him in the face. "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" he demanded.

18:23 "If I said something wrong," Jesus replied, "testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?"

18:24 Then Annas sent him, still bound, to Caiaphas the high priest.

18:25 As Simon Peter stood warming himself, he was asked, "You are not one of his disciples, are you?" He denied it, saying, "I am not."

18:26 One of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, "Didn't I see you with him in the olive grove?"

18:27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

18:28 Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

18:29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, "What charges are you bringing against this man?"

18:30 "If he were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you."

18:31 Pilate said, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." "But we have no right to execute anyone," the Jews objected.

18:32 This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled.

18:33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"

18:34 "Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?"

18:35 "Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?"

18:36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."

18:37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

18:38 "What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him.

18:39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release 'the king of the Jews'?"

18:40 They shouted back, "No, not him! Give us Barabbas!" Now Barabbas had taken part in a rebellion.
