역대하 34 장.

대하34:1 요시야가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 팔 세라 예루살렘에서 삼십일 년 동안 다스리며

대하34:2 여호와 보시기에 정직하게 행하여 그의 조상 다윗의 길로 걸으며 좌우로 치우치지 아니하고

대하34:3 아직도 어렸을 때 곧 왕위에 있은 지 팔 년에 그의 조상 다윗의 하나님을 비로소 찾고 제십이년에 유다와 예루살렘을 비로소 정결하게 하여 그 산당들과 아세라 목상들과 아로새긴 우상들과 부어 만든 우상들을 제거하여 버리매

대하34:4 무리가 왕 앞에서 바알의 제단들을 헐었으며 왕이 또 그 제단 위에 높이 달린 태양상들을 찍고 또 아세라 목상들과 아로새긴 우상들과 부어 만든 우상들을 빻아 가루를 만들어 제사하던 자들의 무덤에 뿌리고

대하34:5 제사장들의 뼈를 제단 위에서 불살라 유다와 예루살렘을 정결하게 하였으며

대하34:6 또 므낫세와 에브라임과 시므온과 납달리까지 사면 황폐한 성읍들에도 그렇게 행하여

대하34:7 제단들을 허물며 아세라 목상들과 아로새긴 우상들을 빻아 가루를 만들며 온 이스라엘 땅에 있는 모든 태양상을 찍고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라

대하34:8 요시아가 왕위에 있은 지 열여덟째 해에 그 땅과 성전을 정결하게 하기를 마치고 그의 하나님 여호와의 전을 수리하려 하여 아살랴의 아들 사반과 시장 마아세야와 서기관 요아하스의 아들 요아를 보낸지라

대하34:9 그들이 대제사장 힐기야에게 나아가 전에 하나님의 전에 헌금한 돈을 그에게 주니 이 돈은 문을 지키는 레위 사람들이 므낫세와 에브라임과 남아 있는 모든 이스라엘 사람과 온 유다와 베냐민과 예루살렘 주민들에게서 거둔 것이라

대하34:10 그 돈을 여호와의 전 공사를 감독하는 자들의 손에 넘기니 그들이 여호와의 전에 있는 일꾼들에게 주어 그 전을 수리하게 하되

대하34:11 곧 목수들과 건축하는 자들에게 주어 다듬은 돌과 연접하는 나무를 사며 유다 왕들이 헐어버린 성전들을 위하여 들보를 만들게 하매

대하34:12 그 사람들이 성실하게 그 일을 하니라 그의 감독들은 레위 사람들 곧 므라리 자손 중 야핫과 오바야요 그핫 자손들 중 스가랴와 무술람이라 다 그 일을 감독하고 또 악기에 익숙한 레위 사람들이 함께 하였으며

대하34:13 그들은 또 목도꾼을 감독하며 모든 공사 담당자를 감독하고 어떤 레위 사람은 서기와 관리와 문지기가 되었더라

대하34:14 무리가 여호와의 전에 헌금한 돈을 꺼낼 때에 제사장 힐기야가 모세가 전한 여호와의 율법책을 발견하고

대하34:15 힐기야가 서기관 사반에게 말하여 이르되 내가 여호와의 전에서 율법책을 발견하였노라 하고 힐기야가 그 책을 사반에게 주매

대하34:16 사반이 책을 가지고 왕에게 나아가서 복명하여 이르되 왕께서 종들에게 명령하신 것을 종들이 다 준행하였나이다

대하34:17 또 여호와의 전에서 발견한 돈을 쏟아서 감독자들과 일꾼들에게 주었나이다 하고

대하34:18 서기관 사반이 또 왕에게 아뢰어 이르되 제사장 힐기야가 내게 책을 　더이다 하고 사반이 왕 앞에서 그것을 읽으매

대하34:19 왕이 율법의 말씀을 듣자 곧 자기 옷을 찢더라

대하34:20 왕이 힐기야와 사반의 아들 아히감과 미가의 아들 압돈과 서기관 사반과 왕의 시종 아사야에게 명령하여 이르되

대하34:21 너희는 가서 나와 및 이스라엘과 유다의 남은 자들을 위하여 이 발견한 책의 말씀에 대하여 여호와께 물으라 우리 조상들이 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 이 책에 기록된 모든 것을 준행하지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 우리에게 쏟으신 진노가 크도다 하니라

대하34:22 이에 힐기야와 왕이 보낸 사람들이 여선지자 훌다에게로 나아가니 그는 하스라의 손자 독핫의 아들로서 예복을 관리하는 살룸의 아내라 예루살렘 둘째 구역에 살았더라 그들이 그에게 이 뜻을 전하매

대하34:23 훌다가 그들에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 너희는 너희를 내게 보낸 사람에게 말하라 하시니라

대하34:24 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 내가 이 곳과 그 주민에게 재앙을 내리되 곧 유다 왕 앞에서 읽은 책에 기록된 모든 저주대로 하리니

대하34:25 이는 이 백성들이 나를 버리고 다른 신들에게 분향하며 그의 손의 모든 행위로 나의 노여움을 샀음이라 그러므로 나의 노여움을 이 곳에 쏟으매 꺼지지 아니하리라 하라 하셨느니라

대하34:26 너희를 보내어 여호와께 묻게 한 유다 왕에게는 너희가 이렇게 전하라 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 네가 들은 말을 의논하건대

대하34:27 내가 이 곳과 그 주민을 가리켜 말한 것을 네가 듣고 마음이 연약하여 하나님 앞 곧 내 앞에서 겸손하여 옷을 찢고 통곡하였으므로 나도 네 말을 들었노라 여호와가 말하였느니라

대하34:28 그러므로 내가 네게 너의 조상들에게 돌아가서 평안히 묘실로 들어가게 하리니 내가 이 곳과 그 주민에게 내리는 모든 재앙을 네가 눈으로 보지 못하리라 하셨느니라 이에 사신들이 왕에게 복명하니라

대하34:29 왕이 사람을 보내어 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 장로를 불러 모으고

대하34:30 여호와의 전에 올라가매 유다 모든 사람과 예루살렘 주민들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 모든 백성이 노소를 막론하고 다 함께 한지라 왕이 여호와의 전 안에서 발견한 언약책의 모든 말씀을 읽어 무리의 귀에 들려 주고

대하34:31 왕이 자기 처소에 서서 여호와 앞에서 언약을 세우되 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하여 여호와를 순종하고 그의 계명과 법도와 율레를 지켜 이 책에 기록된 언약의 말씀을 이루리라 하고

대하34:32 예루살렘과 베냐민에 있는 자들이 다 여기에 참여하게 하매 예루살렘 주민이 하나님 곧 그의 조상들의 하나님의 언약을 따르니라

대하34:33 이와 같이 요시야가 이스라엘 자손에게 속한 모든 땅에서 가증한 것들을 다 제거하여 버리고 이스라엘의 모든 사람으로 그들의 하나님 여호와를 섬기게 하였으므로 요시야가 사는 날에 백성이 그들의 조상들의 하나님 여호와께 복종하고 떠나지 아니하였더라

요한계시록 20 장.

계20:1 또 내가 보매 천사가 무저갱의 열쇠와 큰 쇠사슬을 그의 손에 가지고 하늘로부터 내려와서

계20:2 용을 잡으니 곧 옛 뱀이요 마귀요 사탄이라 잡아서 천 년 동안 결박하여

계20:3 무저갱에 던져 넣어 잠그고 그 위에 인봉하여 천 년이 차도록 다시는 만국을 미혹하지 못하게 하였는데 그 후에는 반드시 잠깐 놓이리라

계20:4 또 내가 보좌들을 보니 거기에 앉은 자들이 있어 심판하는 권세를 받았더라 또 내가 보니 예수를 증언함과 하나님의 말씀 때문에 목 베임을 당한 자들의 영혼들과 또 짐승과 그의 우상에게 경배하지 아니하고 그들의 이마와 손에 그의 표를 받지 아니한 자들이 살아서 그리스도와 더불어 천 년 동안 왕 노릇 하니

계20:5 (그 나머지 죽은 자들은 그 천 년이 차기까지 살지 못하더라) 이는 첫째 부활이라

계20:6 이 첫째 부활에 참여하는 자들은 복이 있고 거룩하도다 둘째 사망이 그들을 다스리는 권세가 없고 도리어 그들이 하나님과 그리스도의 제사장이 되어 천 년 동안 그리스도와 더불어 왕 노릇 하리라

계20:7 천 년이 차매 사탄이 그 옥에서 놓여

계20:8 나와서 땅의 사방 백성 곧 곡과 마곡을 미혹하고 모아 싸움을 붙이리니 그 수가 바다의 모래 같으리라

계20:9 그들이 지면에 널리 퍼져 성도들의 진과 사랑하시는 성을 두르매 하늘에서 불이 내려와 그들을 태워버리고

계20:10 또 그들을 미혹하는 마귀가 불과 유황 못에 던져지니 거기는 그 짐승과 거짓 선지자도 있어 세세토록 밤낮 괴로움을 받으리라

계20:11 또 내가 크고 흰 보좌와 그 위에 앉으신 이를 보니 땅과 하늘이 그 앞에서 피하여 간 데 없더라

계20:12 또 내가 보니 죽은 자들이 큰 자나 작은 자나 그 보좌 앞에 서 있는데 책들이 펴 있고 또 다른 책이 펴졌으니 곧 생명책이라 죽은 자들이 자기 행위를 따라 책들에 기록된 대로 심판을 받으니

계20:13 바다가 그 가운데에서 죽은 자들을 내주고 또 사망과 음부도 그 가운데에서 죽은 자들을 내주매 각 사람이 자기의 행위대로 심판을 받고

계20:14 사망과 음부도 불못에 던져지니 이것은 둘째 사망 곧 불못이라

계20:15 누구든지 생명책에 기록되지 못한 자는 불못에 던져지리라

말라기 2 장.

말2:1 너의 제사장들아 이제 너희에게 이같이 명령하노라

말2:2 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 너희가 만일 듣지 아니하며 마음에 두지 아니하여 내 이름을 영화롭게 하지 아니하면 내가 너희에게 저주를 내려 너희의 복을 저주하리라 내가 이미 저주하였나니 이는 너희가 그것을 마음에 두지 아니하였음이라

말2:3 보라 내가 너희의 자손을 꾸짖을 것이요 똥 곧 너희 절기의 희생의 똥을 너희 얼굴에 바를 것이라 너희가 그것과 함께 제하여 버림을 당하리라

말2:4 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 내가 이 명령을 너희에게 내린 것은 레위와 세운 나의 언약이 항상 있게 하려 함인 줄을 너희가 알리라

말2:5 레위와 세운 나의 언약은 생명과 평강의 언약이라 내가 이것을 그에게 준 것은 그로 경외하게 하려 함이라 그가 나를 경외하고 내 이름을 두려워하였으며

말2:6 그의 입에는 진리의 법이 있었고 그의 입술에는 불의함이 없었으며 그가 화평함과 정직함으로 나와 동행하며 많은 사람을 돌이켜 죄악에서 떠나게 하였느니라

말2:7 제사장의 입술은 지식을 지켜야 하겠고 사람들은 그의 입에서 율법을 구하게 되어야 할 것이니 제사장은 만군의 여호와의 사자가 됨이거늘

말2:8 너희는 옳은 길에서 떠나 많은 사람을 율법에 거스르게 하는도다 나 만군의 여호와가 이르노니 너희가 레위의 언약을 깨뜨렸느니라

말2:9 너희가 내 길을 지키지 아니하고 율법을 행할 때에 사람에게 치우치게 하였으므로 나도 너희로 하여금 모든 백성 앞에서 멸시와 천대를 당하게 하였느니라 하시니라

말2:10 우리는 한 아버지를 가지지 아니하였느냐 한 하나님께서 지으신 바가 아니냐 어찌하여 우리 각 사람이 자기 형제에게 거짓을 행하여 우리 조상들의 언약을 욕되게 하느냐

말2:11 유다는 거짓을 행하였고 이스라엘과 예루살렘 중에서는 가증한 일을 행하였으며 유다는 여호와께서 사랑하시는 그 성결을 욕되게 하여 이방 신의 딸과 결혼하였으니

말2:12 이 일을 행하는 사람에게 속한 자는 깨는 자나 응답하는 자는 물론이요 만군의 여호와께 제사를 드리는 자도 여호와께서 야곱의 장막 가운데서 끊어 버리시리라

말2:13 너희가 이런 일도 행하나니 곧 눈물과 울음과 탄식으로 여호와의 제단을 가리게 하는도다 그러므로 여호와께서 다시는 너희의 봉헌물을 돌아보지도 아니하시며 그것을 너희 손에서 기꺼이 받지도 아니하시거늘

말2:14 너희는 이르기를 어찌 됨이니까 하는도다 이는 너와 네가 어려서 맞이한 아내 사이에 여호와께서 증인이 되시기 때문이라 그는 네 짝이요 너와 서약한 아내로되 네가 그에게 거짓을 행하였도다

말2:15 그에게는 영이 충만하였으나 오직 하나를 만들지 아니하셨느냐 어찌하여 하나만 만드셨느냐 이는 경건한 자손을 얻고자 하심이라 그러므로 네 심령을 삼가 지켜 어려서 맞이한 아내에게 거짓을 행하지 말지니라

말2:16 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와가 이르노니 나는 이혼하는 것과 옷으로 학대를 가리는 자를 미워하노라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라 그러므로 너희 심령을 삼가 지켜 거짓을 행하지 말지니라

말2:17 너희가 말로 여호와를 괴롭게 하고도 이르기를 우리가 어떻게 여호와를 괴롭혀 드렸나이까 하는도다 이는 너희가 말하기를 모든 악을 행하는 자는 여호와의 눈에 좋게 보이며 그에게 기쁨이 된다 하며 또 말하기를 정의의 하나님이 어디 계시냐 함이니라

요한복음 19 장.

요19:1 이에 빌라도가 예수를 데려다가 채찍질하더라

요19:2 군병들이 가시나무로 관을 엮어 그의 머리에 씌우고 자색 옷을 입히고

요19:3 앞에 가서 이르되 유대인의 왕이여 평안할지어다 하며 손으로 때리더라

요19:4 빌라도가 다시 밖에 나가 말하되 보라 이 사람을 데리고 너희에게 나오나니 이는 내가 그에게서 아무 죄도 찾지 못한 것을 너희로 알게 하려 함이로라 하더라

요19:5 이에 예수께서 가시관을 쓰고 자색 옷을 입고 나오시니 빌라도가 그들에게 말하되 보라 이 사람이로다 하매

요19:6 대제사장들과 아랫사람들이 예수를 보고 소리 질러 이르되 십자가에 못 박으소서 십자가에 못 박으소서 하는지라 빌라도가 이르되 너희가 친히 데려다가 십자가에 못 박으라 나는 그에게서 죄를 찾지 못하였노라

요19:7 유대인들이 대답하되 우리에게 법이 있으니 그 법대로 하면 그가 당연히 죽을 것은 그가 자기를 하나님 아들이라 함이니이다

요19:8 빌라도가 이 말을 듣고 더욱 두려워하여

요19:9 다시 관정에 들어가서 예수께 말하되 너는 어디로부터냐 하되 예수께서 대답하여 주지 아니하시는지라

요19:10 빌라도가 이르되 내게 말하지 아니하느냐 내가 너를 놓을 권한도 있고 십자가에 못 박을 권한도 있는 줄 알지 못하느냐

요19:11 예수께서 대답하시되 위에서 주지 아니하셨더라면 나를 해할 권한이 없었으리니 그러므로 나를 네게 넘겨 준 자의 죄는 더 크다 하시니라

요19:12 이러하므로 빌라도가 예수를 놓으려고 힘썼으나 유대인들이 소리 질러 이르되 이 사람을 놓으면 가이사의 충신이 아니니이다 무릇 자기를 왕이라 하는 자는 가이사를 반역하는 것이니이다

요19:13 빌라도가 이 말을 듣고 예수를 끌고 나가서 돌을 깐 뜰(히브리 말로 가바다)에 있는 재판석에 앉아있더라

요19:14 이 날은 유월절의 준비일이요 때는 제육시라 빌라도가 유대인들에게 이르되 보라 너희 왕이로다

요19:15 그들이 소리 지르되 없이 하소서 없이 하소서 그를 십자가에 못 박게 하소서 빌라도가 이르되 내가 너희 왕을 십자가에 못 박으랴 대제사장들이 대답하되 가이사 외에는 우리에게 왕이 없나이다 하니

요19:16 이에 예수를 십자가에 못 박도록 그들에게 넘겨 주니라

요19:17 그들이 예수를 맡으매 예수께서 자기의 십자가를 지시고 해골 (히브리 말로 골고다)이라 하는 곳에 나가시니

요19:18 그들이 거기서 예수를 십자가에 못 박을새 다른 두 사람도 그와 함께 좌우편에 못 박으니 예수는 가운데 있더라

요19:19 빌라도가 패를 써서 십자가 위에 붙이니 나사렛 예수 유대인의 왕이라 기록되었더라

요19:20 예수께서 못 박히신 곳이 성에서 가까운 고로 많은 유대인이 이 패를 읽는데 히브리와 로마와 헬라 말로 기록되었더라

요19:21 유대인의 대제사장들이 빌라도에게 이르되 유대인의 왕이라 쓰지 말고 자칭 유대인의 왕이라 쓰라 하니

요19:22 빌라도가 대답하되 내가 쓸 것을 썼다 하니라

요19:23 군인들이 예수를 십자가에 못 박고 그의 옷을 취하여 네 깃에 나눠 각각 한 깃씩 얻고 속옷도 취하니 이 속옷은 호지 아니하고 위에서부터 통으로 짠 것이라

요19:24 군인들이 서로 말하되 이것을 찢지 말고 누가 얻나 제비 뽑자 하니 이는 성경에 그들이 내 옷을 나누고 내 옷을 제비 뽑나이다 한 것을 응하게 하려 함이러라 군인들은 이런 일을 하고

요19:25 예수의 십자가 곁에는 그 어머니와 이모와 글로바의 아내 마리아와 막달라 마리아가 섰는지라

요19:26 예수께서 자기의 어머니와 사랑하시는 제자가 곁에 서 있는 것을 보시고 자기 어머니께 말씀하시되 여자여 보소서 아들이니이다 하시고

요19:27 또 그 제자에게 이르시되 보라 네 어머니라 하신대 그 때부터 그 제자가 자기 집에 모시니라

요19:28 그 후에 예수께서 모든 일이 이미 이루어진 줄 아시고 성경을 응하게 하려 하사 이르시되 내가 목마르다 하시니

요19:29 거기 신 포도주가 가득히 담긴 그릇이 있는지라 사람들이 신 포도주를 적신 해면을 우슬초에 매어 예수의 입에 대니

요19:30 예수께서 신 포도주를 받으신 후에 이르시되 다 이루었다 하시고 머리를 숙이니 영혼이 떠나가시니라

요19:31 이 날은 준비일이라 유대인들은 그 안식일이 큰 날이므로 그 안식일에 시체들을 십자가에 두지 아니하려 하여 빌라도에게 그들의 다리를 꺾어 시체를 치워 달라 하니

요19:32 군병들이 가서 예수와 함께 못 박힌 첫째 사람과 또 그 다른 사람의 다리를 꺾고

요19:33 예수께 이르러서는 이미 죽으신 것을 보고 다리를 꺾지 아니하고

요19:34 그 중 한 군인이 창으로 옆구리를 찌르니 곧 피와 물이 나오더라

요19:35 이를 본 자가 증언하였으니 그 증언이 참이라 그가 자기의 말하는 것이 참인 줄 알고 너희로 믿게 하려 함이니라

요19:36 이 일이 일어난 것은 그 뼈가 하나도 꺾이지 아니하리라 한 성경을 응하게 하려 함이라

요19:37 또 다른 성경에 그들이 그 찌른 자를 보리라 하였느니라

요19:38 아리마대 사람 요셉은 예수의 제자이나 유대인이 두려워 그것을 숨기더니 이 일 후에 빌라도에게 예수의 시체를 가져가기를 구하매 빌라도가 허락하는지라 이에 가서 예수의 시체를 가져가니라

요19:39 일찍이 예수께 밤에 찾아왔던 니고데모도 몰약과 침향 섞은 것을 백 리트라쯤 가지고 온지라

요19:40 이에 예수의 시체를 가져다가 유대인의 장례 법대로 그 향품과 함께 세마포로 쌌더라

요19:41 예수께서 십자가에 못 박히신 곳에 동산이 있고 동산 안에 아직 사람을 장사한 일이 없는 새 무덤이 있는지라

요19:42 이 날은 유대인의 준비일이요 또 무덤이 가까운 고로 예수를 거기 두니라

2 Chronicles 34.

34:1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.

34:2 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

34:3 In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David. In his twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of high places, Asherah poles, carved idols and cast images.

34:4 Under his direction the altars of the Baals were torn down; he cut to pieces the incense altars that were above them, and smashed the Asherah poles, the idols and the images. These he broke to pieces and scattered over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

34:5 He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and so he purged Judah and Jerusalem.

34:6 In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and in the ruins around them,

34:7 he tore down the altars and the Asherah poles and crushed the idols to powder and cut to pieces all the incense altars throughout Israel. Then he went back to Jerusalem.

34:8 In the eighteenth year of Josiah's reign, to purify the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan son of Azaliah and Maaseiah the ruler of the city, with Joah son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the temple of the LORD his God.

34:9 They went to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought into the temple of God, which the Levites who were the doorkeepers had collected from the people of Manasseh, Ephraim and the entire remnant of Israel and from all the people of Judah and Benjamin and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

34:10 Then they entrusted it to the men appointed to supervise the work on the LORD'S temple. These men paid the workers who repaired and restored the temple.

34:11 They also gave money to the carpenters and builders to purchase dressed stone, and timber for joists and beams for the buildings that the kings of Judah had allowed to fall into ruin.

34:12 The men did the work faithfully. Over them to direct them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, descended from Kohath. The Levites--all who were skilled in playing musical instruments--

34:13 had charge of the laborers and supervised all the workers from job to job. Some of the Levites were secretaries, scribes and doorkeepers.

34:14 While they were bringing out the money that had been taken into the temple of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD that had been given through Moses.

34:15 Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, "I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the LORD." He gave it to Shaphan.

34:16 Then Shaphan took the book to the king and reported to him: "Your officials are doing everything that has been committed to them.

34:17 They have paid out the money that was in the temple of the LORD and have entrusted it to the supervisors and workers."

34:18 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read from it in the presence of the king.

34:19 When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes.

34:20 He gave these orders to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's attendant:

34:21 "Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for the remnant in Israel and Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the LORD'S anger that is poured out on us because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written in this book."

34:22 Hilkiah and those the king had sent with him went to speak to the prophetess Huldah, who was the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the Second District.

34:23 She said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me,

34:24 'This is what the LORD says: I am going to bring disaster on this place and its people--all the curses written in the book that has been read in the presence of the king of Judah.

34:25 Because they have forsaken me and burned incense to other gods and provoked me to anger by all that their hands have made, my anger will be poured out on this place and will not be quenched.'

34:26 Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard:

34:27 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD.

34:28 Now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.'" So they took her answer back to the king.

34:29 Then the king called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

34:30 He went up to the temple of the LORD with the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites--all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the LORD.

34:31 The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the LORD--to follow the LORD and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.

34:32 Then he had everyone in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge themselves to it; the people of Jerusalem did this in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

34:33 Josiah removed all the detestable idols from all the territory belonging to the Israelites, and he had all who were present in Israel serve the LORD their God. As long as he lived, they did not fail to follow the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Revelation 20.

20:1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.

20:2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

20:3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

20:4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

20:5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.

20:6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison

20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.

20:9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.

20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

20:13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.

20:14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

20:15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Malachi 2.

2:1 "And now this admonition is for you, O priests.

2:2 If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me.

2:3 "Because of you I will rebuke your descendants; I will spread on your faces the offal from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it.

2:4 And you will know that I have sent you this admonition so that my covenant with Levi may continue," says the LORD Almighty.

2:5 "My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.

2:6 True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.

2:7 "For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction--because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty.

2:8 But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi," says the LORD Almighty.

2:9 "So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law."

2:10 Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?

2:11 Judah has broken faith. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD loves, by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.

2:12 As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the LORD cut him off from the tents of Jacob--even though he brings offerings to the LORD Almighty.

2:13 Another thing you do: You flood the LORD'S altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands.

2:14 You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.

2:15 Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

2:16 "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.

2:17 You have wearied the LORD with your words. "How have we wearied him?" you ask. By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased with them" or "Where is the God of justice?"

John 19.

19:1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.

19:2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe

19:3 and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face.

19:4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews, "Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him."

19:5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, "Here is the man!"

19:6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify! Crucify!" But Pilate answered, "You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him."

19:7 The Jews insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God."

19:8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid,

19:9 and he went back inside the palace. "Where do you come from?" he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.

19:10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?"

19:11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

19:12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jews kept shouting, "If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar."

19:13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge's seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha).

19:14 It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.

19:15 But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered.

19:16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.

19:17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha).

19:18 Here they crucified him, and with him two others--one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

19:20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.

19:21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews."

19:22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

19:23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

19:24 "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did.

19:25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

19:26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son,"

19:27 and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

19:28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."

19:29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips.

19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

19:31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.

19:32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.

19:33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

19:35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.

19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken,"

19:37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."

19:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jews. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away.

19:39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.

19:40 Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

19:41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.

19:42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
